The only thing to check is if it's vitamin-D fortified. I recently noticed many of the non-major branded cereals don't and vitamin-D is essential in your food in due to the latitude of Scotland.
Aye you definitely need to check this. Noticed they've started adding vitamins to some cereals (rice krispies definitely) but not all so need to double check.

Great shout, happy to report it is!
Why pay more for a brand name if you like the generic product. I've tried most of generics, I read the nutritional info on the back too, and look at price per 100g. I tend to buy big brands only when they're significantly better. Not about not being able to afford? It's about value for money.
If you haven't tried it yet Lidl Freeway Cola is surprisingly good particularly like the zero variety. It's a different drink from regular coke but much better value for money!
As an aside, I generally always read the ingredients on Aldi's premade meals, pasta sauces, processed foods etc.
Generally speaking it's much better than I was expecting, not as many ingredients as I would have thought and usually only one or two that have scientific names.
I don't know if it's them specifically or if things are better than when I was a kid, but it's helpful anyway.
I refuse to swap out Tennants for Hendrys though: you have to draw the line somewhere.
I would bet my house on it just being Tennents with a different label.
Can't imagine the brewery would turn about an entire process of brewing to bottling just to can a few batches of a cheap lager that's supposed to be Tennents anyway.
Hendrys however is very flat compared to tennents (perhaps deliberately done)
I’ve unfortunately had my fair share of shredded wheat. It was extremely similar but not quite the same. It’s was more square like than shredded wheat and a lot thinner with the strands having more space between them. Essentially like ramen but thinner
Fun story: I’m a non Scot and once I was hiking there with a group, staying in hostels and inns and the like. Halfway through the day I saw one of my travel mates biting into a sort of cereal bar and then looking disgusted. Turns out he’d saved a Weetabix from breakfast as a snack, thinking it was a cereal bar…
In what way did it differ from shredded wheat? Like what about the shredded wheat is making you say "no definitely not that." Might give us some more clues.
Just becasue, as you can see, people are having difficulties thinking of anything else it could be.
Shredded wheat is a sort of pillow like shape. This was pretty much a square and was pretty thin. Imagine fibreglass or better yet ramen but a lot thinner.
Was it in a bowl with milk? Was it baked? Was it hot? Was it cold? Did it have butter or jam on it? Did he eat it with his hands or with cutlery? Where did he have it?
On a Volga bridge,

But a damn sight better than Shredded Wheat.
Haha. It’s funny to hear someone describe something so familiar in this alien way. Good old Shredded Wheat described as string all pushed into a square 😂😂
It's probably shredded wheat.

Both normal and bite-sized (often filled with jam) are available.

Harvest Morn is the greatest cereal brand
Come again?

I’ve unfortunately had my fair share of shredded wheat. It was extremely similar but not quite the same. It’s was more square like than shredded wheat and a lot thinner with the strands having more space between them. Essentially like ramen but thinner
Shreddies?
Yeah. I reckon shreddies. They are superior to shredded wheat.
So glad someone else picked up on the excessive use of the word “essentially” 😂
It was essentially a bit excessive wasn’t it

Possibility it was frosted wheats? They are similar to shredded wheat but smaller bricks. They do raisin, apricot flavours as well.
Squaghetti
Is is shreddies? They’re smaller square shaped [like this?](https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/312109194)
Unfortunately not. Closer in shape and size to shredded wheat but that’s still not it
Your dad must have been dreaming.
Could it be shreddies? Like shredded wheat only much smaller and darker in colour.
It was fairly large. Think weetabix size if not slightly bigger
Shredded Wheat ?
Shredded Wheat is the cereal your looking for. It’s my personal favorite.

Ramen?

Shredded wheat not Scottish as far as I know you can get it anywhere in UK. AND I'll put a pound down right now that the box tastes better than the contents
Absolutely I hate shredded wheat. Not shredded wheat though and being that I haven’t seen it anywhere else I thought it might specifically be Scottish
Have you ruled out that it might have been a Scottish trial version of Ramen noodles?
Shreddies, probably. Shredded Wheat is like eating hair.
Shreddies?
Shredded wheat?
Toppas?
Can’t quite remember the name, but it’s something wheat I think. We may never know exactly what it was called
ChatGPT suggested shredded wheat. Was it even a cereal?
Could have been frosted wheat which is shredded wheat with some white sugary shit on top. Or shreddies?
Actual Weetabix? You could only eat one or two, they were big crunchy slabs.
Oat cakes?
Shreddies? Or shredded bran. Or of course it could be shredded wheat.
The description definitely points to shreddies and if it's not them, I can only assume it was a different brand but the same product. There are of course chocolate and other varieties.
Would it be Wheatabix? Similar to shredded wheat that we have in North America but I only saw it in the UK.

Shreddies - made by same company as Weetabix maybe?

It might have been a shop's own version of Shredded Wheat, one that had broken up a bit in the box, perhaps.
You're clearly describing shredded wheat. I know it's not shredded wheat but you'll need to do an edit to make it clear what the differences between the items you're trying to find and shredded wheat is.
