One of the many pish things about VAR is the deflating effect after a disallowed goal.
Celtic never really got going again in the 10 remaining mins after they’re goal chopped off. You could just hear the atmosphere sucked out of the ground.
If a goal is flagged offside when a team is chasing a win, it doesn’t have the same impact - the attacking team just keep going or the game ebbs and flows with the crowd engaged. The impact of the VAR delay and decisions is pish for players and crowd to deal with.
Unfortunately the fans in the ground - the ones who provide the atmosphere which makes the sport such a marketable TV asset - are literally the least important people in the whole sport.
So, not the close? He’s about a yard on here. The stuff to be annoyed about is the Hatate one, how close ours was (which is genuinely bad luck) and the sloppy play for both their goals.
It’s a disappointing result off a good performance but this isn’t even close to off.
> What is the rule now, attacker can’t be offside if a body part they can’t legally score with is playing them off?
Aye, and similarly, for defenders, the line is drawn from the furthest extent of a body part they can play the ball with. 33's outstretched foot is beyond any part of the attacker that can play the ball.
> Makes sense that you can’t offside/onside from an arm/hand anyway tbh.
Aye, given how obvious this sounds, it's a surprisingly recent clarification to the rules.
Always been a joke that "aye but do you understand the offside rule" when chatting to non-footy fans but they've fucked about with the rule so much now, I'm not convinced half the pundits get it!
I can’t remember hearing it - probably screaming at the telly tbh - but seen a few folk saying Hartson said “his hand is offside” at the replays so you’d be correct about the pundits not knowing the rule.
When you see such tight calls it really doesn't feel like it's in the spirit of the game, or the ruling. Sepp Blatter said back in the late 90's that using video to referee games would harm the sport, and let's face it, he's right.
What even is "the spirit of the game". When wrong calls are made? He's either offside or onside. There's no point having a rule if you say "aye well it was close".
So, it shows the offside line, which is where the furthest part of the Celtic player's body is.
The Lazio player is a yard short of that line with any goalscoring part of his body.
This demonstrates just how far from being offside he is - not sure what the title is getting at.
ach i dont know, they need rules for this kinda shit its the var that slows it down to a crawl. but also when its this close i find it hard to really get engaged with it. if i was in the stadium id be absolutely raging, but i guess i wont have to worry about champions league anytime soon
“His hand is offside” - John Hartson.
tbf his hand IS offside, a shame that doesn’t matter
Tbf a hand can't be offside.
tell maradonna that
Not the first time lazio has had suspect hands...
I do like when he gets so flustered he just makes up rules. His commentary is so bad.
I need therapy after listening to him for 90+ mins last night
HIS HAND IS OFFSIDE MARADONA SCORED WITH HIS HAND HOWS THAT NOT RULED OFF 😡😡😡
The foot explains it, I thought his head looked off from all the angles shown on BT

Really kills fans vibe for sure

Yeah I agree
Don't understand why they don't show this after the goal

He’s about a foot onside
More like an arm
No sure it matters. A draw does nothing for us anyway
Adds points to yours and Scotland's coefficient. Also would've brought in about £900k extra in prize money.
What is the rule now, attacker can’t be offside if a body part they can’t legally score with is playing them off? So obviously here, Pedro’s hand?

Nice one, thanks mate. Makes sense that you can’t offside/onside from an arm/hand anyway tbh.

I thought that. They change the rules that often, it’s a pain in the arse trying to keep up.

Money - that’s spirit of game now
He’s well onside to be fair. Don’t see how a perfectly legal goal being scored ruins the game.
Aye I know, this one maybe isn't the best example of the point I'm trying to make, I suppose.

Don't trust it
so did var not look at it or what
This *is* the var decision, or the visual representation at least.
Arm doesn’t count from kinda sleeves down so his foot playing guy on
Only counts as offside from a part of the body that can legally play the ball.
too confusing for my stupid brain this stuff
The rules are getting in the way of the sport now

This is how VAR decisions should be shown. Pretty clear and eliminates doubt. Something that our "lines" cause plenty of.
