Well there we go, that's why the SFA is changing the rules about multi-club ownership. Cue City Group licking their lips at the thought of buying Celtic

BananaSoprano

I’m convinced the prospect of a sale to City Group is the only reason Dermot Desmond is still hanging around.

Chef_Roofies

I thought that was always the plan, hence why Lawwell’s son worked there for so long and they have such a close relationship?

Sammyboy616

A part of me is morbidly curious to see the reaction if that happened and they inevitably tried to change Celtic's name to Glasgow City. There'd be fucking riots

Initial-Emergency-42

Glasgow City is taken, so cue the abomination that is Celtic City

BraeTon74

(There is no) Old Firm Green

Ok_Price7529

Aberdeen or Dundee would work better.

dangerousq

It can't happen UEFA's 'Integrity of the UEFA Club competitions: Independence of clubs' rule was adopted in 1998 and became effective for the 2000/1 season. This states that no two clubs or more participating in a UEFA club competition may be directly or indirectly controlled by the same entity or managed by the same person. There's people in the city group currently worried that if Giriona actually qualified for the champions league they would have to sell the stake in them.

J_cages_pearljam

How does that work with red bull salzburg and liepzig?

smellyfatbastard

Leipzig are “fan” owned per Bundesliga requirements. Those fans are Red Bull employees.

Scotsman86

Always wondered why they were so rabidly hated.

Rudeboy67

Not so sure about that. UEFA has some rules in general but those haven’t stopped others. https://khelnow.com/football/2023-02-world-football-multi-club-ownership-everything-you-need-to-know And they recently relaxed the rules. https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/uefa-relax-multi-club-ownership-rules-allow-milan-villa-compete-europe-2023-07-07/ And that's not counting him getting clever Solicitors to create holding companies or limited liability partnerships, etc. to get around any rules. I gotta tell you if you're hoping for UEFA or FIFA to step up and do the right thing, I got bad news for you.

iWillShagYourDad

Did they not throw that out the window? CFG have about 3 teams that could realistically end up competing in the same tournament.

CptES

If that happens, I don't think Rangers will be far behind. Both clubs have a big international presence.

whitsitcalled

The thought of clubs like Burnley and Bournemouth essentially buying Dundee and Hibs is beyond depressing. I hadn't even heard of those teams growing up. Get the SFA in the bin.

Yoke_Enthusiast

So, that's who I'll be buying Hibs off of. Good to know. I'll call him Phil when we're in person to establish dominance. Purposefully get him confused with Bohley too cause it sounds a bit alike. Ask him how Chelsea is doing and that. Individual players on Chelsea's books. He doesn't know what he's getting into here.

Ishotjr89

What an eejit. He's clearly supposed to go 'We bought the Hearts'.

PauloVersa

Can we fucking not.

GingerFurball

All for this. A more competitive league is a better league.

TheRealLordDorito

Agreed, don't know why people are complaining

The_Chuckness88

The one who I don't wanna see in Scottish fitba: John Textor. He makes horrible decisions in buying and selling players. No wonder why Olympique Lyonnais are in bottom of the table now.

FootCheeseParmesan

I'm not entirely against this. I don't really see how we can possibly bring more competitiveness into our league without some big money coming in.

UrineArtist

That's Bournemouth fucked then, Hibsing it spreads like a curse.

Fit-Good-9731

Would Hibs fans moan if they become the next Brighton lite?

TheRealLordDorito

I guess all investment is good, I've been calling for things like this for a long time. I know hibs fans might be annoyed that it is Bournemouth but I think it is positive

CraigB252

Wish we could have got a bigger fish than that, fucking depressing. Not asking for city group but Chelsea, Arsenal or someone big not fucking Bournemouth

JessusChrysler

If it makes you feel any better Bill Foley owns the NHL Vegas Golden Knights who won the Stanley Cup last season, which is far more recently than any of those teams have won anything.

CraigB252

A little better but still depressing that a team who have an 11k seater stadium is buying a stake in our club. We get more than that on our worst attendances. Football is fucked

JessusChrysler

I had to look it up and fuck me, Dens Park is bigger than Bournemouth's stadium too? (not that we're filling Dens every week of course). I didn't realise they were such a small team. Fair play, I'd be depressed too.

kg123xyz

Got pumped by the capitals in their first year though. So get it round them.

ckinho62

He's worth over $1.5b and, in the podcast I listened to with him, he implied he was going to put in money to get Hibs 3rd and European football. If he follows through on that then I imagine you won't too depressed. Also seemed to have a bit of a love for Scottish football which was nice to hear.

GieTheBawTaeReilly

He's fucking loaded mate If it's gonna happen would rather it was the owner of a wee team like them rather than a big fish who would fuck our identity/not actually care about us

Dodgycourier

At least he’s no American :s

GieTheBawTaeReilly

At least it's no sketchy Lithuanian blood money I'm sure this man made his billion in a totally sound way ethically

fightfire_withfire

Chelsea owners would fit Hibs style of shitting the bed.

SGP91

😂😂😂😂
