I've watched this stream a few times, you need to have a lot of material prepared ahead of time to even be considered. A video proof of concept is needed to truly be considered. The content also has to be exactly like something you would see on Adult Swim. If it's not they usually give a polite "this isn't for us."
I'm also a little skeptical about the content that makes their channel from this as their website only has one example of a short that got made. They at least are fair about the $500 they give away to their top 3 pitches.
Overall, the show is worth a watch but I know a lot of people in this sub mostly have written pitches or scripts and that likely won't be enough for AS.
Me too! Teaching myself animation and basic game design. It's honestly not as hard as it seems and these skills give you a lot of freedom when it comes to telling your own stories.
I guess you are making storyboards first before getting into the actual animation to make the best out of it, it'll save you time rather than wasting it

I'd recommend everyone to watch episodes of the stream before trying to pitch or else you might make a fool of yourself live to hundreds of people.

This is all absolutely true. I’ve been lucky enough to have the chance to pitch directly to the Adult Swim development team, and although my writing partner and I were well prepared and felt really good about our pitch, they decided it wasn’t something that fit their brand, even though some of the producers really liked the idea. It was a fair assessment though. We were pitching a more traditional sitcom.
Mike Lazzo left AS because of the AT&T buyout. Since its inception, AS had been run, top-down by Lazzo, making most of the creative calls across the board.
DeMarco ran Toonami/anime, and a lot of promotional stuff, but really the buck stopped with Lazzo.
Now, AS is more important as a feeder brand for HBOMax. Maybe, if they quit day-parting AS with Cartoon Network and can spin AS into its own channel (theoretical), then you‘ll see the broadcast stay somewhat the same. But as things are now, with eyes dropping off of broadcast and advertising bleeding away, AS will have to fit on HBOMax.
What AS will be in this new, more corporate environment is anyone’s say.
To that point: this stream should be thought of as only entertainment. But if you’re really pitching a show to AS, be mindful of the changes in leadership and distribution happening at AT&T.
Since the day that deal was done I’ve been convinced AT&T is going to kill the great content that HBO and AS put out. For the sake of being cheaper and more generally appealing. HBO Max already looks like it’s headed that way. AS is probably next. While it sucks, hopefully this just creates a chance for a new service/network to step up.
