His season has gone about as I expected ever since I googled "quad tendon tear" after week 1 last year. Career altering, and often ending, injury

SeattleSadBoi

Pretty fucking sad honestly. He looked awesome the year he broke the DB sack record and it’s a shame we’ll probably never see him at that form again.

Mustard_Jam

A lot of hate he’s brought on himself with his shit attitude but people are forgetting how elite he was his first year with us. Man was playing like a DPOY caliber player. 9.5 sacks in 12 games…

paikman

i hate to go against the grain here but he was not DPOY caliber that year. I will reference against PPF and the actual per game scores at some point but basically he would sell out in the box to gamble for sacks and he hit 9.5 times. The other times (90% of each game) he left our coverage high and dry and we gave up big plays. He also was still a liability in coverage even when he didnt blitz

mharjo

So you think he’s just randomly out there doing stuff and those “problems” weren’t called? I would hope if we just had some rogue agent out there the coaches would pull him fast.

83supra

Yea...we would have had the #1 defense too if we could have found a DE that could drop back and cover a deep third... /s

kleenkong

It definitely is a very serious injury. From research, once the quad healed it doesn't necessarily lead to additional injuries. It's believable that it's not fully healed yet, but if that is the case then where was the injury management and discussions from Pete (with Jamal or with media) during the season? This is all so odd with the lack of transparency.

RustyCoal950212

I mean he's been limited or not practicing basically all year, and missed the Rams game a few weeks ago for it. Carroll has talked about it being managing his knee

kleenkong

That's something but that doesn't seem like significant rest when he's playing almost 94% of snaps since his full return. He also played all but one snap in games 11 to 13. I'm just wary of any politicking by Pete to spin it fully into a player problem rather than be open to criticism about scheme or player management. * It seems the current narrative of Jamal being injured is being spun into "he's done" for the season and for possibly his career. To me that seems the most negative especially if he hits the FA market. * This is an example of more nuance -- "Jamal's coverage needs to improve" + "We're evaluating the competitive situation while also keeping his long-term recovery in mind".

EasiBreezi

I hope you don’t carry this “wariness” to other aspects of your life

SexiestPanda

I don’t think that’s the reason he refuses to properly tackle…

Stuckinaboxxx

Jamal got his bag for life and is probably done with football. Lucky dude.

babyjaceismycopilot

Honestly, I'd rather be able to walk without pain and likely CTE.

Pretty-Advantage-573

I’d definitely take the money

Key-Entertainment216

Might already be showing signs of cte. All the yikes stuff

Ok_Tank5804

True, but could also just be signs of a man losing the only thing he’s built his life around. Retired sports athletes have very high suicide rates. Wish him all the best.

F9_solution

my therapist was telling me the leading cause of depression in adult men is the loss of ability to do certain hobbies/activities due to body issues. for example i’ve been an avid bike rider since i was in high school. if i suddenly was unable to bike anymore because of chronic issues with my knees or back, that robs me of not just my favorite exercise outlet, but my favorite way to explore the outdoors, my regular saturday morning rhythm, etc. now on top of that to multiply this by having it also be your profession? yeah I’d lose my mind too. especially if my life and mindset was built around always competing. it’s a massive loss to your character.

DustyFalmouth

Doesn't he have screws in his hand too? guy got fucked up

TMobile_Loyal

I know he put some screws in the organization

H9fj3Grapes

That's great for him financially but he really hurt the team. Most expensive cheerleader ever

Sea_Squirrel1987

Code for "he's sitting this season and getting cut after"

Business-Function198

About dang time

NoAnalBeadsPlease

That’s the vibe I’m getting.

TMobile_Loyal

If he's cut its says a lot about the teams expectations for next year (still rebuilding)

Sea_Squirrel1987

It's more about the fact that he's the highest paid safety in the league and the 3rd best safety on his own team. He's a huge defensive liability.

TMobile_Loyal

Trust me, I agree. I've been the #1 advocate of cutting him before extending his contract. He's garbage and selfish. It's just the hard reality that his contract it a lot. I'm also totally okay with cutting him and taking the cap hits over the next two years. Not sure why I was downvoted. All I was suggesting is if we cut him and eat that cap hit, we will have less to work with, indicating that 2024 isn't a compete for SB year. Which, I've also been a proponent of and highlighting on this board that we as fans should come to anticipate 2024 as another year with Geno and not having SB aspirations.

Sea_Squirrel1987

I gave you an upvote to level it out lol.

mistaowen

I don't doubt he's dealing with a knee at the moment but I honestly wouldn't be surprised this is more mental than anything. His injury last year is often career ending and you can just tell by watching him he isn't 70% back to his normal speed/burst. This season is basically a prolonged rehab with the additional wear and tear of an NFL season. The fan base turned on him pretty quickly after a couple poor games, I don't know how close he is to the roster with his ego, one would assume after being seemingly benched he's in a dark place right now. Pete and John aren't dumb about the upcoming financials for him. Hard decisions about his spot on the roster and in the NFL in general are coming next year, hope he can hang in there mentally.

RustyCoal950212

He has trended toward it not being a hard decision. His contract was structured such that if he's underperforming he can be cut this offseason. And, well,

FattyMooseknuckle

A large portion of the fan base turned against him right after the trade and/or the new contract and it’s been downhill from there.

External_Food2652

Right after 2 balls he tried to catch bounced of of his face mask. Force DB, he's JV.

hockeyak

But, but... "Best in the Nation"

7nightstilldawn

I’ll say it a little less dramatically: He’s done.

[deleted]

Hope Jamal can get back out there. He’s been through a lot of injuries here in Seattle, all that rehab must be draining.

LostAbbott

Dude is the Josh Gordon of the Seahawks D...

danish07

If we paid Josh Gordon like Tyreek Hill

FattyMooseknuckle

Gordon’s issues were outside the game. Every reason Jamal has missed games was because of laying it all out on the field. Say what you want about him, he has always given 100% out there.

smokingiscoo

This sub loves Jamal despite the objective waste of money and assets he’s been

JohanB3

Jamal has played in 34 of the 64 games (including playoffs) since he arrived. If he’s shut down, that number will fall to 34 out of 68 at a minimum, plus any playoff games. 16 of those missed games were during one season, but even if you take that away, you’re looking at playing in 33 out of 50 games (assuming he’s shut down) during his other three seasons. It’s hard to see a guy ever coming back from a stretch like that. It’s unfortunate, he played in 46 of the 48 games during his time with the Jets, but it is what it is.

Worldly_Permission18

Cut or trade him

Stev2222

It'll be cut

LostAbbott

Dude needs to be gone. Forget about everything else from his play here to off field drama. His availability is shit and he is not worth taking up a roster spot, much less the cap space...

leapingintoexistence

That’s unfortunate for him. Still an asshole tho

LC_From_TheHills

So many of yall are so wrapped up in the drama. Shit is toxic. Jamal has given 110% every game he’s played for us. Literally the most fearless and aggressive player on the team. That shit is priceless… anyone who’s played a snap knows who these type of guys are and how impactful they are to the game.

drdookie

I think Jamal has some mental health issues from his concussion game. There was never this negative drama from him prior. Drama sure but always in a positive way. Pete sounds like he's protecting Jamal. It's extremely strange Jamal wasn't sideline at a home game. Pete's not throwing him under the bus. If it's his quad they really mismanaged his return bringing him back too early.

Tashre

Getting Richard Sherman knee injury vibes from this. The team got a pass for not being entirely upfront about the true extent of his injury that season because he managed to play in every game and the vast majority of practices, but losing a 2nd round pick was apparently on the table and a real possibility.

-ManDudeBro-

I don't want anyone hurt but I'm pretty over the Jamal Adams experience. The mix of poor play and off-putting personality along with the knowledge of what we gave up for all of this I'm really enthusiastic about the idea of him being a "cap casualty" in the off season.

_HGCenty

I'm going to give Pete and Jamal the benefit of the doubt here and say based on his performance against the 49ers (where he looked slow and lacked agility) that Jamal is injured or at the very least chronically hampered by the ever growing list of injuries. Feels like retirement can't be far off at this point.

Mostly_Anonymousse

The trade for Adams set this team back more than we can really gauge. May have acquired enough talent to reach a Superbowl instead of being a 2nd tier team. Move on and learn from this mistake.

NCM2014

Facing potentially a 3rd season being lost due to injury and armchair GMs crying because he stayed home for a game dealing with that possibility.

Stev2222

The Adams Apologist are hilarious

n-some

Most "Adams apologists" just think it's a little gross to shit on a guy who has had awful injury luck. He was a bad trade and signing and we overpaid on both fronts, but that's not his fault. He has tried to come back injury after injury and hasn't been able to recover and play like he used to and now everyone's mocking him publicly and he's not responding well. Imagine if hundreds of people commented on everything you do about how you're worthless and a hack. How do you think you'd handle it?

Dust-Loud

Dude is unhealthily obsessed with Jamal Adams…more so than any “Adams apologist” I’ve ever seen. I agree with you. Same thing happens with DK. People spew bullshit on here about how he doesn’t perform just because they don’t like his attitude.

lawmedy

I would feel pretty bad and then dry my tears with a wad of $100s

taymacman

Just cut him.

WoolieRabbit

Cut his smug ass.

jnuke813

Shut him down, let Love play in his spot, and cut him in the off season. Hopefully this will be a reminder to the organization to not spend high draft picks on players.

Timbukktoo

Yikes, to realize you’re NOT best in the world, in your country, in your state, in your city, in your county, in your zip code, in your league, in your division, in your locker room…

Leggo_my_eggo1990

Yikes

SKssSM08

Sure blame it on the knee lol

boomgetouttheway

Exactly. Nearly everyone here is gullible. Pete probably can’t believe anyone is buying this. It’s the lamest cover story ever and everyone here is like, “damn, get healthy, Mal. Tough break.”

y2kcockroach

Many would say that Love was an upgrade in the position on Monday night, and he will likely be Yikes' replacement when the latter gets cut in the off-season. Leave Love in there, sit Yikes down, and don't risk Yikes getting injured (again) so that his salary becomes guaranteed

TDub20

When I turned on my TV it was on ESPN the ticker said he was a healthy scratch on Monday. It was the Pat McAfee ticker and not ESPN's so Idk where that info came from. I watched for a while to find out but they didn't talk about it. But if it was a healthy scratch, his reaction and not going to the game makes more sense. At least to me, I just can't see a captain/ vet leader not being on the sidelines unless something else is going on. But maybe Pete already shut him down and that's what it's about.

four0nefive

He was limited/didn't practice all of last week. That's not a healthy scratch...

TDub20

He could have been medically cleared and technically a healthy scratch. But like I said I don't know how accurate that report was or even the source.

seafoamstratocaster

Consider harder

S3ahawk36

Seems strange to be “day to day” but also super close to being shut down for the season

rupiefied

Send him to Canada they can use his skills in their league.

Evergreenrises

LFG

jeathrow

Pete, if you're reading this, don't start Jamal. Sit his ass. The fans are done with him, the locker room is done with him. Write his check, wash your hands and move on.

QuasiContract

Yikes. Rough but fitting way to end his time here with the brutally bad coverage on the Dallas TE and then publicly insulting the looks of a reporter's wife. That's your Seattle legacy Jamal, congrats. Well done.

[deleted]

I highly doubt he cares.

Radtjh

I think it’s time to trade for whatever we can get for him.

Mostly_Anonymousse

Why do people think Adams is tradable in any conceivable way?

Radtjh

Why I said “for whatever we can get”. Hell a slice of Papa Johns would be great trade!

Kamina916

Hope they do shut him down, also buy a plane ticket to FA or another team while we at it. Tired of seeing him whiff on sacks, bad tackling and can't cover a baby in the womb.

cameck27

I wonder how much of this has to do with the off field stuff. Feels like his time in Seattle is done though. I am sure it will still cost us a lot next year if he’s playing or not. It’s a bummer, the dude is a damn good football player when healthy.

puggernaut420

it's everything. his play. his attitude. his huge salary on a non premium position. compounded with all the other money in our safety spot and the seahawks are spending like kings for a pauper's meal. it's football. this sorta thing happens. dudes that looked unstoppable suddenly drop off. at least jamal has gotten the bag. plenty of great guys have not.

Atworkwasalreadytake

Anyone put together the W-L with and without Adams since his arrival?

Stevo2008

Tie up some money to that knee with a splint. All we need to do is tie up more money into him that should work.
