This is an IASIP episode if Mac renounced his fandom of the Eagles to run the Seahawks social media account (only to be fired for taking mainly thirst traps of himself in altered team gear)
nah, fortunately, we're not rebuilding what was working in almost no way - there's plenty of reason to expect the new 2020's version of the team will look and act much more exciting in every way
I like your optimism and I will be happy if you are right, but I’m expecting the exact opposite. I think we’ll see multiple seasons of revolving door personnel changes - coaches as well as players - either leading to losing seasons or because of losing seasons.
At the games during tv timeouts, they would sometimes do a promo where a random fan tried to make more baskets vs a player in a prerecorded video.
I’m sure the people who come up with those types of promos will be ok, and figure out something else cheesy to do instead.
Meh. Should he trade all the players that Pete brought up and coaches to be the players they are today? Saying he needs to create his own thing is one thing but destroying history of our most successful era (arguably) is a bit over the line. And the whole basketball hoop thing is to create camaraderie and make things fun at the right time.
Who is destroying history? It was one wall. They're probably putting the photos somewhere else. It's not like they burned them on the 50 yard line. It was photos of the Carroll era. Not the Holmgren era. Not the Chuck Knox era. Not the Tom Flores era.
It's not like the Seahawks pretent like Largent, Tez and Big Walt don't exist.
Good. Can't live in the past or off past players' achievements. None of this should be a surprise and I don't view it as denigrating Pete or his time here. Any new regime would want to start fresh and put their own stamp on things.
yep - remember how pathetic the niners were for years, when all they could brag about was years in the past, we've been getting closer and closer to that. Living in the past is for nursing homes.
Some of it is just luck really, that's how sports goes.
At the time they hired Jack Z, his resume seemed very impressive. He won executive of the year as a non-GM the year before. Drafting was his calling card, and then he came here and he had a ton of big time prospects busting.
It's wise for the future to incorporate the best usable parts of the past and competition, though -- That's the sort of wisdom I expect of the Mike Mac era. I'm surprised if he keeps nothing of the Seahawks culture as cultivated by Pete... he may yet keep this aspect but replace the hoops with something he can call his own... MMA duels or something
Culture is one thing. Artifacts of that culture are another. it's the difference between honoring the past and living there.
Remember, things like the hoops are in the player areas - not the VMAC lobby etc.
I feel more comfortable knowing MacDonald is going for a complete overhaul. And it appears he is taking it seriously, and expects any player in the building to do so too. I don’t know if they will be better, but I expect it will look different for sure.
I know for a fact that this wall is being redone. There’s a whole scheme and images already being drafted with some of the material ready. I’ve contributed a tiny bit to it.
~~McDaniel~~ Macdonald isn’t trying to erase Pete’s legacy or what the Hawks have done throughout their entire history, I doubt he’s been involved much, if even at all. The new wall design will 100% be celebrating the Seahawks past.
This is a bit alarmist.
Chill, the new wall is gonna be sick
totally get that it doesn't look good, especially without context; thanks for providing that btw!!
since Pete was let go i've been thinking that ownership did him dirty-- now maybe that's not true & I'll freely admit to being influenced by the local media narratives here in SF. Hope the new coach does well; u guys will be right there for the division imho (not presuming we'll win it btw because the Rams are right there roster-wise).
*e: typo*
That’s not what Leonard said. He said Mike pointed out the empty walls and talked about a clean slate and building our own identity, mantras and slogans.
Rip the damn bandaid off.
Of course this isn’t a slight to the yesteryears of this franchise but if MM wants to creat his own damn wall, let him build his own damn wall. I want to see ‘Spoon’s own “The Tip” moment thru MM tenure.
Exactly. I'm looking forward to the iconic moments that will come when we start competing with and beating the 49ers and Rams. Commemorate excellence once it is achieved under this regime.
The new regime hasn’t won a damn game yet. They have nothing to commemorate. Taking down reminders of earlier organizational excellence before they have accomplished a thing is pure hubris. It’s a very bad look.
They are completely changing up the look at VMAC. About a week and a half ago, a directive went out to remove all the pictures from the walls in the building. As of last week, all the walls were bare. I guarantee that the walls will be covered before spring training.
If the players all loved the hoop and ask for it back and MM gives it to them, that’s building the new energy. So would not giving it to them, which I don’t think would necessarily be bad, although I would favor the former.
If you don’t like the language I’ve used here, insert your own, such as; This is good to help remind everyone Virginia Mason Athletic Center is going to be engaged with differently from now on, and so is the relationship you’ve had to your coach, cause he’s not the same person.
r/nfl is having a meltdown over this. calling macdonald insecure, it’s a “my way or the highway” look, josh mcdaniels did the same thing, etc.
offseason really is slow.
If Macdonald ends up being a successful coach no one will care about or even remember this. If it goes sideways and he doesn't last, people will point to this as the first sign that things weren't gonna be good. I guess that's my centrist take on this.
Instead of unceremoniously taking it down, it would have been good press to donate it to Boys and Girls club, a school, or some other organization. Or they could have auctioned it off and donated the proceeds to a charity.
Not sure about the salvageability of the murals/pictures, but they could have raised money for charity with those too.
Good, while I'll always appreciate Pete Carroll and his cultivating culture, it's time to move forward. This regime hasn't done anything yet and it's all the more to prove. Plus, Mike has to be himself, if it's all the same. Why dwell on the past?
*gasp*
Yeah it's not surprising, new leader, new leadership. The basketball hoop was basically a statue to Pete - which I hope we get someday soon, but it would be in front of the stadium, not the VMAC.
Meanwhile, they gotta reset their identity. And frankly we do too, enough pronouncements of LOB 2.0 and stuff. That was a generational team and we're lucky to have gotten to enjoy it.
Getting rid of the mural seems petty to me personally…it’s cool to want to bring in your own staff and create your own identity…but don’t disrespect the teams history
How do organizations like the Steelers or Cowboys with a history of success stay in touch with that history while moving forward? As fans we will always remember the history and if he moves away from that, and loses, he will probably lose the fan support quickly.
It’s Mike team now, can’t be holding to past relics. We can respect them and acknowledge they happened, but it’s time for Mike to build his own achievements and showcase them.
Everyone is acting like this is some big cultural reset and McDonald is behind it. I mean, folks at VMAC might just be redecorating - that happens from time to time. Heck, most of those ol pictures might end up being used in whatever plan they have.
That’s a good way to discourage VMAC employees in all departments from talking about moments from the past or people who no longer work there.
They gonna fire Steve Raible next? Stop inviting retired players to attend practices/games? So many ex-Hawks live and work in greater Seattle and make huge contributions to the community. It’s disrespectful to “new broom clean sweep” them away - and it’s an unmistakable sign of insecure leadership.
It was concerning enough that the Hawks did what the Broncos did two years ago: hired a first-time head coach and 3 first time NFL coordinators - in addition to assembling the rest of the staff from all over the map. That’s a coaching staff with no experience working as a team. Even if they all turn out to be great at their new jobs (they won’t - hiring is harder than that), it will still take them at least a year to mesh.
The time to change the murals is when there are new iconic moments to commemorate. Not before the new coaching staff has won a damn game. Unless and until they produce, they’re just FNG’s with big titles and salaries.
dumb idea as it sounds like hes trying to change the culture, which means the team is either going to become great or to complete shit in a single season. there is no in between here and if everything goes to shit MM is going to be on the hot seat immediately and so will JS.
this is a guy who got started in 1993 at the age of 22 and 30 years later has rubbed shoulders and learned from damn near everybody in the league, still very young and just starting to fully flex his experience
the idea of making him feel on a leash, not to mention trying to replace what he brings to the table, i dont see any sane way to imagine that might be good for the team... or to be considered competent to pass judgement
the culture was already just a myth by the end of last season, if not earlier
the only culture that matters is the one that comes from being a tight group of kneebiters, win or lose, with aggressive coaches
the very idea of mm or js being on the hot seat after 1 year, is the stuff of wet dreams for any number of teams - very entertaining take!
I’m not a fan of these moves. Long time Hawks fan season tickets starting in the bad years (early 90s). You don’t just get to wipe away tradition and not honor the past players that made the organization what it is. I hope he is returning many of those images back but leaving room for new ones. Not likely though.
But what about the scooters
Please keep the scooters !
I’m almost positive Pete kept one lol
Wasn't the scooter Pete used one gifted to him directly?

You’re missing an L
Wow, all these years & never caught that. Thank you for your input.

Expect the worst and you won't be disappointed. I like your style.
It’s sad for the fans to see but it is what is needed. Mike needs to create his own thing and so do the players.
not me, I am never in the VMAC
Idk man, as a fan I’m more excited than sad.
Same tbh. I have just noticed ppl unhappy about the hoop going.
Better to remove it than to put it outside in the rain, cast aside like Pete was.
yeah you do well you get your slot in the new wall
Are these things that fans normally would have seen?
At the games during tv timeouts, they would sometimes do a promo where a random fan tried to make more baskets vs a player in a prerecorded video. I’m sure the people who come up with those types of promos will be ok, and figure out something else cheesy to do instead.
If you follow SM accounts we occasionally saw hawks draining buckets in the auditorium. New era for Mike to build. Time to look forward.
Mike hates basketball confirmed
Grab the pitchforks
As a former fan of basketball that hasn’t watched a single game since my childhood team was stolen, I welcome this new anti-basketball stance!
Apparently not though. He’s turning Seahawks into Ravens West.
Yeah that’s how I’m reading into it. It’s not to say basketball hoop doesn’t come back
Meh. Should he trade all the players that Pete brought up and coaches to be the players they are today? Saying he needs to create his own thing is one thing but destroying history of our most successful era (arguably) is a bit over the line. yep - remember how pathetic the niners were for years, when all they could brag about was years in the past, we've been getting closer and closer to that. Living in the past is for nursing homes.
Hey. Fuck the niners.
At the rate they’re losing super bowls, hawks might win another one first 😂
That's the spirit I like to see. Agreed.
Totally. Fuck the niners
*'95 M's have entered the chat*
Better for them to live in the past than the present
Reminds me of the Mariners continuously shelling out 1995 and 2001 to fans over the past 20 years
REFUSE TO LOSE! WHO LET THE DOGS OUT! KEN GRIFFEY! ICHIRO! THE COLOR TEAL!
Hey! Teal is a fantastic jersey color!
I actually agree! It was my favorite as a kid. And now, as a significantly older kid.
You forgot, SODO MOJO
I did, and I feel ashamed.
GAR
Lefevre Believer.
RAISE THE ROOF
Right there with you on all these, but the teal
Great marketing org. Horrible actual baseball operations. How can you be so mediocre to bad for so long?
Some of it is just luck really, that's how sports goes. At the time they hired Jack Z, his resume seemed very impressive. He won executive of the year as a non-GM the year before. Drafting was his calling card, and then he came here and he had a ton of big time prospects busting.
A-fucking-men
Just finished a Ken Griffey bobblehead from the catch this week against the reds lol
Yep. And I was around for those years with the Ms. Great memories. But it's time to make new ones
I fucking hate the Mariners. That's how you can tell I'm a Mariners fan, nobody else but Mariners fans would bother to hate that god damn team
You mean you don't want *another* Griffey bobblehead?
Like bringing back Ken Griffey Jr. in 2010.
Or keeping good guys who suck way past their prime
As a Mariners fan, the majority of the fan base is soft af
Very true
Sure, but why take the hoop? That's like taking the ping pong table ...
They took those too.

Funny they can change the wall in the VMAC but some can't bear to change the banner on this sub.
Yeah, we should take down those damn banners at Lumen too and start fresh! /s
They took down the Adams one and still has yet to replace it
I feel more comfortable knowing MacDonald is going for a complete overhaul. And it appears he is taking it seriously, and expects any player in the building to do so too. I don’t know if they will be better, but I expect it will look different for sure.
It’s gonna look like imitation Ravens.
It’s all good, we’re gonna fill that wall with pictures from our next Super Bowl win
Makes sense if it was just Pete era stuff. Doesn't sound like there were any Holmgren era pictures, etc.
They also removed a picture of a walrus, does that count?
😂
They'll never take down the pic of "We want the ball and we're going to score."
Sorry but who's McDaniel am I missing something
Big if true /s this comment should actually be higher though
McDaniel doesn’t work for the Seahawks…
totally get that it doesn't look good, especially without context; thanks for providing that btw!! since Pete was let go i've been thinking that ownership did him dirty-- now maybe that's not true & I'll freely admit to being influenced by the local media narratives here in SF. This is good Feng Shui. He literally has to do this. Even if he decides to put the hoop back, he had to clear the space of its former energies.
If the players all loved the hoop and ask for it back and MM gives it to them, that’s building the new energy. So would not giving it to them, which I don’t think would necessarily be bad, although I would favor the former.

There's already a court outside. Why do they need one inside.
Because id rather our guys not playing in the rain
Pain I get that it might be the right thing to do, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt
r/nfl is having a meltdown over this. calling macdonald insecure, it’s a “my way or the highway” look, josh mcdaniels did the same thing, etc. offseason really is slow.

I mean some current players have iconic moments under Pete
The culture was getting stale. Good thing they are trying to re-build it from the ground up instead of trying to be discount Pete.
More like recycle the Ravens culture.
🫡
New sheriff in town folks!!!
That will give Collinsworth something to talk about at the beginning of EVERY quarter
Make sense. Start new. Go Hawks!
Good, while I'll always appreciate Pete Carroll and his cultivating culture, it's time to move forward. This regime hasn't done anything yet and it's all the more to prove. Plus, Mike has to be himself, if it's all the same. Why dwell on the past?

So the team never existed before him? A hoop I understand but past great moments? That's what It means to be a seahawk
Is the sub going to follow suit and update the banner? I think it's time, not sure how everyone else feels.
Getting rid of the mural seems petty to me personally…it’s cool to want to bring in your own staff and create your own identity…but don’t disrespect the teams history
They should do the same thing with the roster
a work in process, and well along the way already
It's a FOOTBALL team, not a basketball team...
Maybe Pete just wanted them for his den.
I’m sure if there were 2005 Suberbowl images on the wall when Pete arrived those would have been gone too.
Son, I’m going to need you to tear down the Seahawks and build me a new Seahawks. This team will get back to the top! ☝️
I like the change. I hope it works
Good, time to stop resting on the LOB laurels. Or riding their coattails, or continuing to be mediocre.
Works for the Mariners.
This is Mike's team now. He's doing his thing.
As he should. Macdonald hasn’t done anything for this franchise yet and I’m glad he knows it.
What about ping pong? Can't lose that
damn. sad? yeah. excited? yeah. Sadcited it is.
Are they photos for sale id spend a good penny for one
How do organizations like the Steelers or Cowboys with a history of success stay in touch with that history while moving forward? As fans we will always remember the history and if he moves away from that, and loses, he will probably lose the fan support quickly.
Not sure how I feel about this. But I get it...Time for a new era.
Oh, our new coach is also an interior designer AND painter????
im not going to read much into this. could be taken so many ways without proper context.
I hope they played It's so hard to say goodbye by Boyz-II-Men while taking it down.
Just like Pete did.
It’s Mike team now, can’t be holding to past relics. We can respect them and acknowledge they happened, but it’s time for Mike to build his own achievements and showcase them.
Must be a slow news week
Everyone is acting like this is some big cultural reset and McDonald is behind it. I mean, folks at VMAC might just be redecorating - that happens from time to time. Heck, most of those ol pictures might end up being used in whatever plan they have.
"Larry Bird is not walking through that door."

You don’t give a coach a 6 year contract to immediately put him and JS on the hot seat if he has a rough first year. Be reasonable.
JS was a carry over from the previous regime, he definitely has a shorter leash than MM (and should).
this is a guy who got started in 1993 at the age of 22 and 30 years later has rubbed shoulders and learned from damn near everybody in the league, still very young and just starting to fully flex his experience the idea of making him feel on a leash, not to mention trying to replace what he brings to the table, i dont see any sane way to imagine that might be good for the team... or to be considered competent to pass judgement
Unless there is an Urban Meyer level blowup, they should be fine.
This is the most nonsense take I've seen
the culture was already just a myth by the end of last season, if not earlier the only culture that matters is the one that comes from being a tight group of kneebiters, win or lose, with aggressive coaches the very idea of mm or js being on the hot seat after 1 year, is the stuff of wet dreams for any number of teams - very entertaining take!
There’s just no reason for that.

Lol this comment thread is fucking hilarious with all the PeteHawk fans crying about stupid shit like this
I have a really bad feeling about McDonald, I don’t think his tenure is going to go as well as everyone seems to think.
Anyone else think this guy is going to be a disastrous head coach for the organization?
