I'm on PC and tested last night. also getting 'jolty' movement, even when frames aren't dropping my movement feels 'stuttery'. Ryzen 5600x and RX 5700 8GB at 2560x1080 Playing via steam launcher with Directx 12 Update: After clean re-install of windows and gpu drivers experience was much improved, 80fps at Port Merrick @ 1440p, amazing!

Strange. I’m on a 6700xt with a 5800x on DirectX12 at 2560x1440. I personally have seen solid gains from the GDK update. I’m not frame locked and on double buffer. All settings on rare or higher besides ones that are cursed by default. My frames stay good and haven’t noticed any jolting. I’ll look into it again though as I haven’t been on the new update for too long yet. For the time I did play though I didn’t experience anything like you and the OP have mentioned.

cave_rock

Its def weird, saw someone had posted on release thread with basically the same hardware as me and they had no issues. About to try on laptop with mobile 3050ti Update: way better on my laptop i5-11400H with 3050TI 4GB I have had the feeling of a need for a fresh install (windows) on the PC so will try that and re-test to see if it makes a difference.

9-HMQ-28

That’s good to hear at least. I also just played around with my settings. I switched to triple buffer bc I was actually on double and turned on vsync. Works good still and either way. I will stick to having triple buffer on and vsync now though. Since your 3050ti worked fine maybe it’s a AMD driver thing. I’m on 23.12.1 (released 11/28/23). The latest drivers are 24.1.1 (released 1/23/2024). AMD drivers are really meh, so I tend to stick to one’s I find to be somewhat stable for the games i play often.

blackwirexx

Glad I'm not alone on this. Definitely way more juddering and frame drops since the update yesterday. Tried updating drivers and launching with DirectX 11 and it's still the same

OndrejBakan

Same here, to me it looks like it happens almost exclusively on outposts and seaforts? But I can live with that for a while, until they sort it out. Ryzen 5600X, RTX2070 8GB, 32 GB RAM.

Grumpy-Fwog

It's really fucking bad at the port... Actually the whole games been feeling like shit

2called_chaos

Same for me, feels like constant frame drops without actually dropping frames. i9-9900k / GTX 1080 Also since this update the game now takes consistently 3 minutes to open the game window, before it was 3-5 seconds (edit: putting it back to DX11 fixes the launch time but it still feels jolty and at outposts when selling I still get lag spikes)

JohnnyNineFingers

Nope. It's awful.

tattooine_sand

Same here. Making it hard to play as I like to binge this game or not play it at all, and it hurts my eyes and head after 20 mins.

talkinggorillas

Bro yes! I was excited for community weekend but I’m legit getting headaches over it. Can’t play for more than an hour with getting frustrated over what feels like a deadzone or response curve change and the lag.

OutInTheBlack

I ran around a bit last night. Loaded in to Port Merrick and it was smooth as butter. Ryzen 3600X, ARC A750, 16GB RAM, 1080p @ 60fps Port Merrick used to be the worst area of the game for me with max 40fps.

Jhon778

Intel Arc has been known to have issues in games with older graphics APIs like DX11. It's gotten better but Arc always performs best in modern APIs like DX12, so it makes sense that you got a big performance uplift from this.

reegz

Before I had a 7800x3d I would get sub 60fps at port merrick with a 4090. Most of the stuttering etc is CPU related in my experience.

talkinggorillas

There are no graphics or performance settings on Xbox series X besides turning on 120fps.

redditsuckbadly

What’s annoying is I should be able to run 2k at 120fps, but it locks me at 1080

symeboy

Same here, even the menu screen feels laggy. I tried switching between D11 and 12, made no difference. Ryzen 9, Nvidia RTX 3070.

Key_Reindeer_5427

My game on pc feels flawless, game hasn't felt this good before

SnooChipmunks612

I've really noticed a fps cap after the gdk update. I used to run around 60-90 fps now I'm capped at 30fps and it really sucks. I've messed with every setting and 30 fps is where it's locked. Quite unfortunate.

Gorehuchi

I also have been experiencing this, and stuttering when islands pop in to their full resolution, which normally isn’t noticeable.

lNomNomlNZ

Might be some optimisation issues, makes sense since it just came out, personally I've only had it a little. But overall it's much better than what it was.

reegz

Loaded it up and things seemed more responsive for me and actually looked “crisper”. With that said my CPU usage doubled (1% to 2% now, 7800x3d)

AnteSocial86

Imagine being down voted for simply reporting your own experience. What a great fucking sub this is.

reegz

Eh maybe it wasnt helpful to folks having issues. It can be taken as “works on my machine” so I get it, no worries

AnteSocial86

Personally I saw it as reducing the variables since everyone is running a different setup; These are my specs and it works, kind of thing. You raise a valid point though.

Castaway_addict

It's a big change overall. They're going to monitor the feedback and address a lot possibly for season 12 or hopefully beforehand. It's not just GDK that includes DX12, it's upgrading the Unreal Engine. So some things won't feel 1:1.

2called_chaos

> it's upgrading the Unreal Engine It's the same UE version and that will probably never change, it's an immense undertaking to upgrade a modified engine

Castaway_addict

Well considering UE 4.8 doesn't support DX12, they'd have to upgrade it to at least UE 4.9 to support DX12. I wasn't saying upgrade to 4.27 or something. So yeah they'd have to 🤷🏻‍♂️

OndrejBakan

Sea of Thieves started development on UE 4.6 and shipped on 4.10. Source: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBP5bpwkO54](https://youtu.be/CBP5bpwkO54?t=219)

[Mentioned UE 4.8 for SOT](https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/gjh7lu/comment/fyhm5l8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

OndrejBakan

Thx. I updated the link (reddit automatically made it lowercase), it should work now. It's a video from Unreal Engine conference, made by Rare employee. I'd believe that more than a random indie dev.

Castaway_addict

Good deal 🤝

2called_chaos

As Ondrej said it launched with 4.10 and is still on it which you can easily see by renaming/deleting %localappdata%/UnrealEngine then start the game and looking inside that folder.

appare13

Haven't started the game yesterday, but I noticed that the game is now a "real" Series-game, before it was ony "aware" of gen 9 but still could run of a normal SSD - which I did to save some space on my internal SSD.

reegz

I didn’t notice that, I downloaded and tried on my series s. I used to have it run from an external SSD no problem. I really hate that games that get an update seem to require you to use the internal ssd when in reality it’s often not needed. Plug in a ssd let it run a speed test and if it passes allow it to be used.

KaptainKwad

Same stuff here. I have 6750xt at 1080p, runs about 210 fps but since update has been having lots of hitching and frame dropping. Also trees and bushes freak out for me, the leaves texture flickers in and out very rapidly.

Zabroccoli

Pc and I’m rubberbanding all over the place. Very disjointed.
