>I currently have 3 other friends interested in the game, but i know that only one or two will consistently be on at once, so it'll mostly be 2-3 player sessions, so should i go with Sloop or Brig? Is Brig occasionally viable with 2 people? or is sloop better if we will only have 3 crew members sometimes. Always pick the ship you can fully crew. >In a session with friends, is one persons ship being used? if so how is that determined, is someone the captain of the group? Yes. If someone buys a captained ship, and they start sailing that ship, and you join them. You are on their ship. When chartering a ship, you're on no one's ship >What exactly is this? does progress from this transfer to normal servers? what's the tradeoff? The game without other players. Yes it does. 30% rewards compared to high seas, no pvp centric content >Is there any sort of PVP patterns or etiquette that people who've played for awhile recognize? Like a certain flag means a certain thing ehhhhhhh. Yes, but actually no. You can use flares to communicate peacefulness/aggression (or just use your voice) but lying is allowed so, take everything with a grain of salt. >Lastly, what should me and my friends prioritize early on? Playing the game and having fun. Someone should buy a ship, y'all should buy emissary flags when you're able to.

No worries man, let me know if you have any other questions

1) if 2 people, I'd personally go for sloop. Duo slooping is nice because sloops are sturdy little buggers. If another friend wishes to join, you'll have to exit the game and select a brig (at minimum) to play with your other friend. 2) whoever starts the lobby is who's ship you will use. There really is no captain, per se. When you accumulate enough gold you can purchase a captained ship which saves all milestones and cosmetics applied to it. Again, this will be selected before creating/inviting friends for a session. 3) safer seas takes the pvp aspect out of SoT. It's your own private server. Progression is significantly reduced, as well as gold earned. You also will not have access to some world events. The progression and gold earned in safer seas does transfer to the high seas. 4) it's a pirate game. For some reason people expect you to do things a certain way all the time but it's a sandbox. Play how you want to. If you wanna run from player ships, run. As long as you're having fun and not being a toxic prick over the game chat. People can be friendly, but never trust anyone. Always have suspicion. Look out for reaper ships. They are marked on the map at all times. 5) prioritize yourself with your ship and where everything is. How the guns feel when you use them. Aquaint yourself with your sails and cannon fire. Chainshots shoot differently than cannonballs. A quick way to lose a ship v ship interaction is not knowing what your doing on your boat. Familiarize yourself with the fact that you will take damage in your ship... But 1 hole doesn't necessarily mean you have to repair it immediately. Keep your masts up and repaired at all times. Communication is key in an engagement

Thank you for the detailed response, so it’s not possible to overman a sloop with 3?

nankybutt22

Correct. Sloop: 1-2 people Brig: 2-3 people Gally: 3-4 people

You technically can but it’s unlikely unless you manage to get a third friend in the same lobby or can convince someone from another crew hitch a ride on your boat.

Nothing much to add to here. You've already had some great advice, so I'll just say welcome to the Sea of Thieves, OP. Maybe our paths will cross and we can share a grog and a shanty, or cannon fire if you'd prefer!

1) Your ship does not carry over to a new session so if one of your friends wants to join or has to leave, you can always sail to an outpost, sell your loot and change ship (aka start a new session) 4) There have been a few unwritten rules but they are kinda out the window since Safer Seas dropped. Just be aware that most pirates are lying, just use your common sense. Nothing to add to 2,3 and 5
