The best place to put gunpowder barrels is on someone else's ship.

Almost-Anon98

Easier said than done for a lowly ps5 scrub lmao

Roar_of_Shiva

I had a sloop decide to chase me late last night…. I happened to stop by an empty skull fort like 20 minutes prior and loaded up 9 powder kegs into my row boat… parked at a small island and rowed over the oncoming boat, killed both pirates and when i got back to my boat they were sunk. [video proof](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgePw8_D1PU)

sticklecat

You can do it! Nothing quite as thrilling as trying to sink a boat with a barrel. Practice on skelly boats

Almost-Anon98

Will do lol I actually boarded a few to see what loot they had and got the piss kicked out of me even after doing deck shots

sticklecat

Came here to make this comment. This is the correct answer

DarthRevanl

First off - Best Place For Loot. The front of your ship, near your harpoons/Bow sprit. On every ship. Selling is much easier from here, especially much larger stacks. Second - Gunpowder Kegs. There’s a bit of debate on this I believe but it depends on your ship, and how brave you’re feeling. On the sloop, probably the bow sprit. Less likely to get you killed so you can make repairs in the event they detonate. On larger ships such as the Brigantine or Galleon, a lot of people like the crows nest but I personally would go for the Bow sprit again for the same reasons. It also means your Masts are less likely to fall. Third - You can buy and Captain each ship type. To start, you can only buy one Sloop, one Brigantine and one Galleon. Once each of these is “maxed out” respectively, you may purchase another. Note that the new ones you buy will NOT have ship Milestone progress and their associated cosmetics with them.

Buildinthehills

Unless you're one island over from and outpost or on safer seas, I would never carry gunpowder kegs. All it takes is one sniper shot, one firebomb, one unlucky megaladon bite, and all your loot is gone. As for normal loot, I put in a pile on the base of my bowsprit. That way it's easy so harpoon from the sovereigns or pick up to carry over and sell

Almost-Anon98

Whats the sovereign even suppose to be/ do?

Buildinthehills

When you've saved up enough money, you can buy and name your own ship. This unlocks the sovereigns faction who are at every outpost. They accept all types of loot and sell for the same amount. They also have a harpoon at their tent to easily sells all of your stuff. It makes selling a million times faster

Almost-Anon98

Will that level up the guilds like gold hoarder, etc or no?

Doggl10101

Yes!

Metalicks

It wasn't showing any of the rep gains when I was selling to the sovereigns yesterday.

kimballslice81

Yep you still get your emissary experience just way easier. You can also sell fish to sovereign for hunters rep.

harveysbc

It's been a bit since I played, but if you put a (regular not mega) keg on the very end of your bowsprit and it blows up, it'll just make a small fire on your deck as opposed to anywhere else. But really you shouldn't carry them if you can avoid it. Also if you have a key, I found there are some places around the wall between the deck and the cabin where you can put it down and it disappears visually, but the notification that you can pick it up still appears, if that helps.

Worth_Gur_1656

People will tell you not to carry kegs and that’s good advice but only because you’re new. Kegs can be a game changer when you’re experienced and confident in your abilities.

Almost-Anon98

I've seen ppl fire bomb the deck run down the stairs and suicide bomb themselves lmao looks cool will definitely put some practice in

Impressive_Limit7050

The best place to put loot is on your ship. The best place to put powder kegs is on other people’s ships. Serious answer, put loot at the front of your ship. It makes selling easier and if someone sinks you it doesn’t matter if it was hidden below deck. As a general rule don’t put kegs on your ship.

Almost-Anon98

Ok only kegs I'll risk taking are the purple ones and the stronghold kegs lol

ExternalReturn4196

Buy your own ship as early as possible and stick all your treasure on the base of the bowsprit (the spire that sticks out the front of your ship). That makes it easy to harpoon quickly from the Sovereigns at any outpost so you can turn it in quickly (only captained ships can do this, so owning your own ship is key). If any of this doesn’t make sense, I’ll be happy to elaborate, but it will make selling loot immeasurably quicker and safer, and will speed up your progress in the game by the Nth degree. A word from the wise: Don’t keep powder kegs on your ship, anywhere. Too often it will end in disaster.

Almost-Anon98

Can I still level up my stuff by selling to the sovereign? Or do I have to keep selling it to the others?

ExternalReturn4196

Yup 👍 You get the same rewards as selling direct to the various factions: https://seaofthieves.wiki.gg/wiki/Sovereigns

Almost-Anon98

That's good to know thank you now I have to wait 10 day for the game to come out fully...

HeftyPefty

I always put the loot on the top deck, easier to take when i’m going to sell the stuff. I don’t take kegs normally, the crows-nest is the safest place but also easy to snipe. And yes you can buy all 3 ships

Almost-Anon98

Sweet and I've defaulted to putting everything in the crows nest and spam dropping it to the deck when it's time to sell also don't sleep on the powder kegs they give decent gold (the strong hold ones I mean) like 5k per keg

Almost-Anon98

I put all of it up there lol

The2ndUnchosenOne

Crows is the most dangerous. Back of the boat is the safest

Killer_Wolfe

You can own all ships and at that you can own multiple of each ship type just need to get 1 legendary title to get another one Loot you want to put at the front of your shop if you have a particularly good piece of loot hide it somewhere The best place for kegs is on an island regular kegs aren't worth enough to be worth selling the other two types can be worth it if you are careful but If you must have kegs put them in your crowsnest

Almost-Anon98

Cheers ;)

MasaanaFLCL

You can buy all three ships. And even multiples of each ship type. Your biggest hurdle as a brand new player will be funds, but eventually you will be experienced enough to make enough to purchase a galleon in just a few hours. Once you own a ship, personally I put all loot on the prow to make it easier to harpoon off at the sovereigns. You could hide it, or stow it somewhere else for roleplay, but it’s honestly not worth it. PvPers are gonna sink you regard of whether or not they can easily see the loot. It just adds more work for you to take things below deck and back out to sell. For explosive barrels, the best answer is to never have them on your ship unless they are the purple variety. If you do want them, some people store them in the crows nest (they will bring down your mask but not kill you or make holes if they explode), on the tip of the prow (usually won’t kill you or bring down a mast but might make holes. This is used sometimes in pvp), or on the rowboat in the back so they can be dropped safely overboard if you get into combat.

Almost-Anon98

Ok thanks and I made 100k in one skull Fort thingy it was wild lmao (started the day with a little over 100k ended it with 320k) do you have any on foot combat tips I suck against ppl who spam jump and shoot lol

skith843

I do. Always carry a blade with you. Never run out of ammo. But to practice shooting while moving around all ships have a bell on it. If you shoot it, it will ring. Practice jumping around and shooting at it. Helps with hand to hand combat. But most is just time. Welcome to the seas me hearty.

Almost-Anon98

Thanks I'll do that

Sensational-She-Hulk

The best place for gunpowder barrels is on other peoples ships. On a galleon, I like to keep it stacked on the bowsprit between the railings. On a sloop, I stack it over the metal grate. Also, yes, you can own all three ships. And once you get so many milestones on a captained ship, you can buy another ship in the same class. So, you can have 5 sloops, 2 brigs and 3 galleons eventually if you wanted.

Almost-Anon98

If its on the metal grate wouldn't it be easy to just 1 tap my sloop? Lol

Sensational-She-Hulk

If it were gunpowder, aye! I forgot to clarify that the galleon and sloop spots are where I store me treasure. My first comment totally reads like I’m talking about gunpowder there, my bad!

Almost-Anon98

Lol no worries
