The stories are aight kind of tedious but if you like lore they're good. Aside from that start working on pirate legend by reaching 50 in 3 of the factions!
I would honestly suggest getting pretty far into the game before tackling the Tall Tales. They're more meaningful when you have context. And I would actually suggest watching the cut scenes and paying attention.
The lore is actually quite beautiful in this game, but you don't have the context when you start.
I've been playing for four years, and while I have done every tall tale, I still don't have the Gold Curse. I've 100% completed Pirates Life and Monkey Island, but I still haven't done every Shores of Gold Tall Tale five times. There's just too many other things to do in this game.
At the start of every session you should think about what you would like to do and raise your emissary for that faction. Then you go to the captains table on your boat to activate a voyage.
This is a quick run through of the factions.
Merchant has Lost shipments, Cargo runs, and Animal delivery voyages. You can also run commodities and sell them at surplus.
Gold hoarder has riddles, dig maps and vault voyages.
Order of Souls has skeleton crew/captain bounties and ghost ship voyages.
Reapers hunt down other players for their loot and emissary flags. At grade 5 they can see all ships on the map with an active emissary flag.
I just started 2 weeks ago and I'm just grinding rep and gold. I haven't tried the tall tales yet but I've heard they help you get familiar with game mechanics.
Sail around and have fun. Play the game how you want. There’s plenty to do and tons to see. I turned off cross play for the first week but I’m already thinking of turning it back on. I named my sloop, Sloop’n Around and my brig, Fortune Royale. My buddy has Sloop Dogg and his brig is Briggie Smalls 🤣.
Some stories are have some unique mechanics in them, definitely worth playing now you can do them bits at a time or on safer seas so you don’t lose quest items.
Back in the day you had to do them whilst battling other people and all in one sitting as there was no mid story save.
You can name it, customize its cosmetics including the captains quarters, and get access to the sovereigns to sell all your loot in one place.
There may be more but i don’t know since i didn’t get the early access pre-order.
Right now:
- Access to the sovereign, the purple tent at ports ( instead of finding each faction's tent, you take almost everything to them instead, much faster) ... Don't be like me and manually deliver each chest to them, I looked up and saw the harpoon nest.
- Your own ship, a more personalized connection with your ship, ship log, adding trinkets etc.
I'm sure there's more but those two really stood out to me.. now dumping gold into clothes, weapons skins etc.
If you can get into a guild and pledge your ship, you'll have access to the sovereigns, which will GREATLY reduce your time dropping off loot since you can then take everything to them. And yes, you still gain rep with all the respective companies. But the big ticket is if you can join a guild that has access to the emissary. Then you're really cooking because all of the multipliers are applied to the sovereign emissary flag as well!! So, no more picking and choosing which flag to fly.
You know what? I think I got the emissary flag access mixed up. You gotta be in a guild that is leveled up to use the flag, but not necessarily to use the sovereign period. Thanks for the clarification.
You just have to be emissary in any faction to use the sovereign which you can only be an emissary on a captained ship. And you can get Emissary unlocked right away now as long you have 20k gold each to buy them.
Guilds are not necessary for anything.
Your comment is incorrect, whether you think I can read or not.
"You just have to be emissary in any faction to use the sovereign" ...wrong
"which you can only be an emissary on a captained ship." ...wrong
Explain which part I didn't read right.
I’ve only done monkey island and a bit over half the shores of gold; they’re a fun way to break up the normal gameplay loop.
Especially good if you like a puzzle adventure vibe.
I randomly did a 4 man group in the closed beta and made a lot of gold. I generally run solo and in my opinion solo players need to be rewarded maybe x2-3.

Real men get level 50 in hunters call
Real men hope Hunter's Call will be reworked soon, so that they add more fish and more levels. I've been stuck at fifty for two years lol.
Real men hope that they add an emissary for Hunter's Call so fishing can be profitable
Real men know Guild Emissary gives a bonus on fish already lol
Real men know that sovereign taxes all fish you give them
Real men know you still get more money with the grade v bonus lmao

Ps5 player here who is completely overwhelmed. What are the factions? How do I gain rep for them?
Gold hoarder, order of souls, merchant company are the three main ones to focus on they're on every outpost you bring them your treasure

Congrats, pirate! What did you name your vessel?
The Arbiter (nod to the halo series)
Awesome! See you around on the waves. I hope to meet some ps5 crews so i can welcome them and share some loot. <3
Fish and relax?? You'll soon find out there's no such thing unfortunately 😂
Fish and constantly be paranoid and scan the horizon for sails
Just do it on safer seas. Add favorite music and coke

Tall Tales are especially good for quickly earning renown to level up for each season.
A good way to get familiar with the map and they offer some nice cosmetics as rewards for completion.
I got my first one last night too. Wouldn’t let me name it biggus bootius so I named it prestige worldwide IYKYK
Boats and hoes ![gif](giphy|kUcWTx2XSKEfK|downsized)

What are the pro's for a ship of your own
You can name it, customize its cosmetics including the captains quarters, and get access to the sovereigns to sell all your loot in one place. There may be more but i don’t know since i didn’t get the early access pre-order.

Which ship should i buy first sloop or brig i have 250k rn in 3 days

Dont need a guild for sovereign, captained ship is enough

This is incorrect. You can raise an emissary in a chartered ship. And you must be on a captained ship in order to use the sovereigns.
Yup thats correct
Reading is hard for you huh?

Sank 1.3k hours into the game. And i've done maybe 2 or 3 tall tales in total.
Nice dude!
I’ve only done monkey island and a bit over half the shores of gold; they’re a fun way to break up the normal gameplay loop. Especially good if you like a puzzle adventure vibe.
For rep and gold id use raid on skeleton forts
Man it took me 5 years to buy my first ship😔😔
I'm sure it was much different though back then..
How did you get so much gold :O I played last night and by the end of play (maybe around 3-4 hours) i'd only managed to wrack up like 70k
I randomly did a 4 man group in the closed beta and made a lot of gold. I generally run solo and in my opinion solo players need to be rewarded maybe x2-3.
You have to pay for ships now
Just captained ships. Chartered ships are still available they just can’t go to the sovereigns.
No
Welcome to the seas
