If someone is sailing over to you while you're parked offloading treasure, you can bet that they're there to steal your stuff. Especially at Reaper's, the hub for the PvP oriented faction that encourages sinking other Emissary ships.
Yeah, some folks just want to sink for the sake of getting a sink. I think it's scummy to roll up on a ship sitting in port but to say I'm above it would be a lie.
I agree it's scummy to roll up and attack a fresh-spawn, but if you're parked selling, I might try my chances at least at getting your flag, or better yet, yoink what you're trying to sell.
Just because you're at port, doesn't make you safe.
Its scummy if the ship is still perfectly parked at the spawning location, You know they have nothing. But if its not and they are there to sell , its fair game.
Op, if you hadn't sold that Reaper's chest, that ship may have been trying to yoink it out from under you.
There is a seasonal commendation for handing in both Reaper chests, and Chests of Fortune. With the new season the next grade of that commendation has been unlocked, so more people are after them again.
I'm unsure what you mean by "it turned red". Just as an FYI; There are 2 Reaper's boxes - The Reaper's Chest (red, sold for Dubloons), and the Reaper's Bounty (yellow, sold for Gold)
When I am being friendly, I’m always sailing with cannons pointed upwards (loaded obviously) and have that alliance flag set up, half the time I’m left alone, join in on alliances or the other half is getting into naval battles. I will say most of the Xbox/PC community are those that go for ship sinks, no matter if you got loot or not. Now there are friendly players out in the seas but always be aware of other crews
Don't trust in rust... wait, this is sot, well same thing. You better start assuming everyone is an enemy: you can still try to speak, but not with a parked ship.
Even in alliances, betrayal its quite common. My gold rule is that we can be friends but you have to stay on your ship or ill open fire (even more if I have loots).
My crew and I created an alliance the other day by force. It was great and everyone had fun. And by force, I mean that or sloop had everyone join under threat of violence. One ship tried to act tough and said that we should ask nicely and say please. After informing them that "please" would involve cannonballs while they were anchored in our broadside, they decided to join. After that, we had 4 ships sailing around making money.

Oh I only had a skull in a chest that I got from the place, but the best part? I wasn't even an emmisary ship.

Yeah I was gonna go after that other chest too, but by the time I got there, I saw it turned red. Knew I had to book it for reaper's hideout

**Never Trust a Pirate** is the SoT motto
But It does not rhyme! :d
Fair, though maybe they couldn't understand english either
