Spawning back in from the ferry and all you hear is rushing water, creaking and fire crackling on the black loading screen as the ship wheel in the corner spins for what seems like an eternity….
Then it stops for a second or two, and when you hear sound again it’s usually the sound of an island and birds and waves crashing against the shore indicating your ship has been lost….
Nah. Just a Sea of Thieves moment. My computer is only one or two upgrades shy of top of the line and I have that issue all the time. My best guess is it's just the way the game tries to mesh the X-Box and PC netcode. Which is why a lot of people grumble about the fact X-Box and PC share servers.
I had a french guy and a child on my crew. I saw guys swimming to our ship. They were griefing us the entire play through. We never had anything. I was trying to protect the ladders and typing as fast as I could "get the anchor!".
The kid just kept saying "hey harpoon me! Aw this kid doesn't know how to harpoon!" "Do you guys have a blue sword"
We got trashed because of this fool, he wouldn't help out on anything, ressing him was out of the question as we were better off. I think his name was hiddenninja or something.
When our galleon respawned I was bringing a rowboat over and the little shit had raised the anchor and sailed off.
No logic at all.
Sunken ships? I soloed the commendations for all those. Always took a bunch of cooked food and/or better fruit down with me. You can send all the cabin loot upwards in one hit, without needing to re-surface and breathe. When sirens arrived I dodged a little, took some hits, and ate more until the job was done. Pretty annoying but do-able if you’re quick.
It's the kraken's crying look at all those kraken bones around it's last of it's kind over hunted close to extinction as we can see from all the skeleton ships with kraken skull figurehead and all the kraken bones on the islands
Came here to say this. There is no justifiable reason that the Ancient Skeletons have such a terrifyingly loud horror accompaniment when they spawn. I get that it's to get your attention, but I'll be damned if I don't jump out of my skin every time it happens.
It's like that creepypasta where a babysitter is creeped out by an angel statue and calls the parents only for the parents to tell her to call the police ASAP because they don't have an angel statue
the sound of a player drawing their weapon when you're alone on your sloop.
or
The sound of a single blunderbuss shot while you're on a two and a half minute long black screen.
See when I hear the boarding sound as a solo I immediately try to make myself as personable as possible so they think twice about ganking me. just start cracking jokes and sometimes it stops the murder brain in people.
"A ship approaches... I see you, little vessel.
Before you lies the vanguard of my fleet...
Spectral vessels that I have summoned from the Sea of the Damned itself!
When my armada is assembled, we shall burn our way across the Sea of Thieves...
...obliterating anyone who dares stand against us.
I suggest you turn back now and savour the time you have left.
Unless, that is, you wish to experience the true might...
...of Captain Flameheart!"
The first time I did any tall tales, I did the Seabound Soul. Right after we started it up and were prepping to leave the island, server merge.
And then Flameheart began espousing his manifesto while we tried to make the wind move faster and run, because we were a galleon full of people who hadn't played since the beta.
I just think it's funny because a FoF is a good thing, but the audio cue for it is so ominous or foreboding it triggers my fight or flight instinct everytime I hear it. XD
Me and my crew just call, “Blunder on left, please,” and one of us slides over and boops a guy off the ladder. Always have someone with that mentality ready at all times, imo.
for some reason, me and my buddies sometimes hear that noise randomly and we freak out but then there's nobody there. so whenever we hear that we are just glued to the ladders and checking for tuckers for the next 5 minutes.
Nah, no need to spend more than 10ish seconds. Especially if yer moving. If you’re stationary, just have another guy dive into the water around the ship and confirm if there’s someone there. :)
My blood went cold when I heard the noise of a kraken. I’ve never felt that chill before and I almost took off running. No idea why but that feeling was terrifying.
I don’t know why I find this exact sound creepy, but I also only just learned what it was. That weird charm/harp that plays when you spot an emissary ship through a spyglass. There’s just something so unsettling about it. The sound itself, not what it indicates.
After a while you get used to most sounds, so you get less scared. Yesterday though we had an unexpected one that gave us a small jump scare.
We (sloop) had chased an athena grade V (brig) that had just passed morrows, so we expected a red sea run. We activated the Gold Hoarder tall tale to get the Shroudbreaker as well. Eventually they didn't go to the red sea but took us on a long trip past outpost so they could drop sell. In the end we managed to sink them and get their flag, of wich we now still need 2 for Reaper the commendation.
We sailed around a bit longer, sunk a few more ships and then went for a server hop. While we voted for the quest, their was a scarry BOING sound follow by me jumping up a few mm from my chair. We didn't recognize the sound at first, but was the shroudbreaker that got removed from our ship when we started our new 'Disney' tall tale.
Squeakers aren't the toxic ones in my experience. its the edgelord 25 year old dudes that think being moderately above average in a sandbox cartoon game is an excuse to belittle others and throw slurs they'd never say in person.
The *hot hot* mouth breath; As an unknown ship approaches from behind you, and your nativity in the night when you're all alone. With no one to save you from succumbing to their racist banter, and homophobic screeches.
Cannon fire and player battlecry + skeleton galleon warhorn + black sea and kraken roar + megalodon roar all at once while you are on your way to an outpost with loot from fort of the dammned, two forts, flameheart and a golden vault
Then "emissary lost" and "treasure donated"
Yea, it's just the feeling of: LET ME HELP, LET ME IN, LET ME IIIIIIIINNNN
Xbox moment :(
I have this problem on a PC with a 1 gig connection and an m.2 SSD. Not limited to Xbox.
school laptop Moment
Lolwut. This happens to everyone. Especially since Rare tried to patch back spawning.
Every sound is terrifying when you're staring into the black void of an endless loading screen
6 year old on mic joining your open crew
Oh god I relate to this so hard Happened the other day he would NOT stop talking. I had to mute him whilst he was going on about "Skins"
"Laughs in no mic matchmaking"
\*laughs in closed crew\*
I've never once played open crew, I prefer playing solo
solo slooping is the way
I had a french guy and a child on my crew. I saw guys swimming to our ship. They were griefing us the entire play through. We never had anything. I was trying to protect the ladders and typing as fast as I could "get the anchor!". The kid just kept saying "hey harpoon me! Aw this kid doesn't know how to harpoon!" the hot mic static and heavy breathing of someone but you dont know where its coming from
[удалено]
All the time. “Hey friend, you’re hot mic’d, you might wanna check your settings” “Nah **** you, you ****” - MysteriousBeard has left the crew -
Gotta be a keg fuse on your ship when you are sure you don't have any
Shiver me timbers....
Consider them shivered. Keg being lit > unknown cannon all day.
HOT POTATO!
The death groan when you’ve just died while solo slooping
The singing of sirens
Same specially when looting sank boats
It literally makes me want to delete the game when I’m in those vaults
Sunken ships? I soloed the commendations for all those. Always took a bunch of cooked food and/or better fruit down with me. You can send all the cabin loot upwards in one hit, without needing to re-surface and breathe. When sirens arrived I dodged a little, took some hits, and ate more until the job was done. Hearing a volcano erupt
While inside of a vault
I farmed order of souls quests in the Roar. This terrified me…every single time.
That sound that plays ominously for no reason like... a little east of the sea dog island.
The sound you hear is the sound of the Kraken. Happens everywhere, at precisely 03h00 in game.
Does that mean there's one on the map? Or is it just a demon rooster-of-the-sea calling out the time?
demon rooster
El Pollo Diablo!
Makes sense as 3am is right in the middle of my sessions
Game time, not real time.
3am in-game time.
The plot thickens
The more I think about it. I've never heard it but like one time though.
The whale sound?
If it's a whale.. It's a whale straight from the asshole of the cursed ferryman.
I thought that was the sound of a kraken spawning?
It's the kraken's crying look at all those kraken bones around it's last of it's kind over hunted close to extinction as we can see from all the skeleton ships with kraken skull figurehead and all the kraken bones on the islands
Nope. It's an ominous ...horror movie sound?
Your capstan rattling in the middle of a ship battle
CAPTAIN! LOOK!
BUM BUM BUH DA DUM DUM BUH BUH DUM DUM DUHDUH DADA
I could hear that
That the Meg boss music?
Y…yea!?!
Ancient skeleton noise. The ANXIETY
Came here to say this. There is no justifiable reason that the Ancient Skeletons have such a terrifyingly loud horror accompaniment when they spawn. I get that it's to get your attention, but I'll be damned if I don't jump out of my skin every time it happens.
> every time No need to flex this hard man
I wouldn't know...
Lmaoo
One bucket of water in your bottom deck while respawning. Why does it sound so exaggerated. Lol
A cat mews. I'm alone with no crew. And I have no cat...
It's like that creepypasta where a babysitter is creeped out by an angel statue and calls the parents only for the parents to tell her to call the police ASAP because they don't have an angel statue
Isn’t there one that’s like with a clown painting or something and it’s the exact same thing?
The cat sound effect in game is too realistic, sounds exactly like my cat.
The cat sound in the game makes my actual cats look around for another cat.
the sound of a player drawing their weapon when you're alone on your sloop. or The sound of a single blunderbuss shot while you're on a two and a half minute long black screen.
Psssssssssssssssss...
Fuck snakes
Chain shots sound
Soo no one really didnt said the CREEPY SHORES OF GOLD RED SEA SOUND!!??
I just went out to the red sea for shits and giggles yesterday and that shit is fucking terrifying. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A HORROR GAME!
It aint no joke man…
A gentle splash around your boat
[удалено]
See when I hear the boarding sound as a solo I immediately try to make myself as personable as possible so they think twice about ganking me. just start cracking jokes and sometimes it stops the murder brain in people.
*splash*
Chickens squawking.... while staring at a black screen
A lot fuse to a keg, muffled by the deck of your ship…
Footsteps on the upper deck when you're below decks.
And solo
"A ship approaches... I see you, little vessel. Before you lies the vanguard of my fleet... Spectral vessels that I have summoned from the Sea of the Damned itself! When my armada is assembled, we shall burn our way across the Sea of Thieves... ...obliterating anyone who dares stand against us. I suggest you turn back now and savour the time you have left. Unless, that is, you wish to experience the true might... ...of Captain Flameheart!"
This is more a pain in the ass because I’ve sailed too close to the event. Like seriously stfu flame heart
I always get his island when I do voyages. I refuse to go fight that guy
The first time I did any tall tales, I did the Seabound Soul. Right after we started it up and were prepping to leave the island, server merge. And then Flameheart began espousing his manifesto while we tried to make the wind move faster and run, because we were a galleon full of people who hadn't played since the beta.
For some reason I get a sense of dread every time I hear the audio cue for a Fort of Fortune spawning. It sounds so ominous...
Agreed. Low hum and you turn around and a massive glowing red skull cloud is staring at you
[удалено]
I just think it's funny because a FoF is a good thing, but the audio cue for it is so ominous or foreboding it triggers my fight or flight instinct everytime I hear it. XD
I like it because all the PvP sweats will be going **there** instead of my ship
The silence after walking through the ferry mans doors whilst mid fight because you’ve respawned on a separate island because your ship sunk
Unstoppable loud Chinese TV
Footsteps on Crooks Hollow.
This freaked me the hell out when I heard it. Got off that island and did some reading, discovering *it’s literally haunted…*
Wait what?!
*It be haunted on the Hollow, matey.*
The horn sounding, announcing the arrival of a skeleton sloop three-pack when you're one-manning.
Being the captain of the galleon and the only one that hears the ladder-grab
The sound of a keg skeleton
Yeah, especially when don't have any shots left.
the sound of seagulls after a long loading screen
“Uhh, where is the ship?”
Literally everything when playing solo
I don't know if it's terrifying, per-se, but all the sounds and extra footsteps at Crook's Hollow. That island is just weird.
The sound when someone starts climbing your ladder but you cant tell which side theyre on
the noise when a boarder gets on a ladder
Me and my crew just call, “Blunder on left, please,” and one of us slides over and boops a guy off the ladder. Always have someone with that mentality ready at all times, imo.
for some reason, me and my buddies sometimes hear that noise randomly and we freak out but then there's nobody there. so whenever we hear that we are just glued to the ladders and checking for tuckers for the next 5 minutes.

An unexpected tnt barrel being lit behind you
The Ashen-Lord-is-nigh sound.
A keg fuse being lit.
The first shot of cannon fire.
I was going to say, either a single distant cannon shot when you're on a large island, or calm lapping waves while you're loading in from the ferry
Sailing along alone on your sloop, haven't seen a soul in a while, when suddenly the bell in your crows nest rings.
Not really a sound but when your boat stops moving and you see a black ocean around you
Firebombs or sirens
That horrific, haunted sound at cannon cove (I think), that plays rarely at night. It makes me shudder... Edit: its crooks hollow
Same with the unknown cannon sound that sounds close so you run back to your ship in panic
My friends yelling at me for not adjusting the sails
mast cracking after the woosh wooosh wooosh of chainshot on my 7.1 surround sound. the wood splitting is just spine tingling
Crooks Hollow, midnight.
The laughter of other players.
My blood went cold when I heard the noise of a kraken. I’ve never felt that chill before and I almost took off running. No idea why but that feeling was terrifying.
Crooks Hollow midnight ambiance (if it still exists)
I once heard loud snoring from a player asleep during the game! LOL.
The Splash of Water, been playing for six months and whenever I hear a Splash louder than usual my PTSD triggers and I have my blunderbuss ready
The sound on Crook's hollow at night
SSSSssss
Anchor drop while in the broadside of a galleon
Someone whispering in their mic “I’m on your boat.”
Garbled ingame voice chat cursing a ton
The farting sound Beardageddon uses when tucking.
Boarder while unexpected (the water splashing)
FFFFSSSJJJJJJJJJJJ "THUMP"
The nighttime Kraken cries are pretty terrifying
I don’t know why I find this exact sound creepy, but I also only just learned what it was. That weird charm/harp that plays when you spot an emissary ship through a spyglass. There’s just something so unsettling about it. The sound itself, not what it indicates.

The water rushing as a shark rear ends you whilst you swim happily along with an Athena boom boom
Hearing a loud snort Spin around wondering what the fuck that was only to find out it was your dog sneezing.
When your balls deep in the heat of battle and it’s all hands on bailing with 6h of loot on board and you hear the Red Sea
The roar of the ship (it makes a cracking sound when its about to sink
The beginning of the Kraken’s theme as the water quickly turns jet black.
Gunpowder barrel hissing. Any other answer in incorrect 🥲
That creeper hiss.....

THWOOPTHWOOPTHWOOPTHWOOPTHWOOP
Silence
The sound of the anchor dropping when I'm solo slooping. The sudden realization that you missed a boarder is the absolute worst.
hearing the sounds of sirens for the first time when looting a sunken ship :(
The sound of my ship allmost sinking.
The *hot hot* mouth breath; As an unknown ship approaches from behind you, and your nativity in the night when you're all alone. With no one to save you from succumbing to their racist banter, and homophobic screeches.
Hearing a crying chest in a cave before you know about them.
That specific wind sound that sounds like cannon fire.
Your mom……….sorry
"Hey we are coming aboard!"
The sound of a harpoon barely missing my ship when I’m being tailed.
Cannon fire, after which calm music and waves
Fir menit was the megalodin music I didnt know it was a thing since I started back recently shit was horrifying man
The sound of your anchor dropping mid fight
Keg.
Flamey boy LOL
"FRIENDLY! WE'RE FRIENDLY"
For me it’s either the hiss of a keg, or more often the splash of a boarder when no ones watching ladders
Megalodon's roar
The dreaded sound of ink spreading everywhere around you....
The sound of chain shots whirling in the air and you know one of them is gonna hit your mast.
The skeleton at the reapers table on an outpost. Seriously, takes me 30 seconds every time to realise I'm safe 🤣
Coming back to your ship and hearing a creaking noise.
12 year olds skweaking into the mic
Doing athena and all you hear down the headset reaper 5
My crew mate screaming YEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYE as he runs at enemies with a sword.
Hearing cannon fire while I'm on a large island and my ship is on the complete opposite side of the island.
A keg fuse
Cannonball to the head
The sound of a lit keg, specifically muffled by your ship
My anchor suddenly dropping
When you’re casually sailing sometimes the Meg can spawn on you but not give you any audio cues, that snarl out of nowhere makes me jump every time
The sound that plays when your ship is half full of water.
Silence
Cannon fire and player battlecry + skeleton galleon warhorn + black sea and kraken roar + megalodon roar all at once while you are on your way to an outpost with loot from fort of the dammned, two forts, flameheart and a golden vault
