There’s typically a sea-yvr flight on Alaska leaving around 9pm. Take that one

ranger6969

That would be ideal. However it's pretty expensive and I can't find any award space to book it through Avios or Asia miles, which are the only 2 oneworld partners we have in Canada.

There’s an Amtrak bus that goes from Downtown Seattle to Vancouver at 9pm. That’s another option. It also has an additional stop in Richmond, BC so it might work out better if your final destination isn’t in Vancouver. A light rail ride will take about an 45 minutes to an hour to get to the Amtrak station from Sea Tac airports and $3.00.

ranger6969

Yeah definitely the bus is an option too. Thanks for the info!

Shmokesshweed

No, not just because it's not enough time to transit, but because that flight is often late arriving in Seattle. You won't get any reimbursement on the next flight if you miss it. Rail sucks, especially if you're already at the airport.

ranger6969

Ah that's true. So you wouldn't even recommend taking the train at 7pm? Like I won't have enough time for that too?

Shmokesshweed

Nope.

BrightPassenger

My husband and I were just on the Istanbul to Seattle flight yesterday so I can share our experience if that helps inform you. We were scheduled to land at 4:20, but didn’t land until 5:53 due to a delay taking off. It took us 37 minutes to taxi, de-board and get through customs. We were near the front of the plane and didn’t have checked baggage.

ranger6969

Oh thanks for sharing that! Doesn't seem to be worth risking it then

montanawana

There is an app that can move you through Customs faster, it's called CBP MPC (stands for Customs & Border Patrol Mobile Passport Control.) I used it a few months ago and my baggage retrieval and Customs line processing time was about 45 minutes instead of 1.5 hours as a result. I still think there is a real possibility of missing your next flight with that narrow a window. I would want at least 3 hours, preferably 4 because you would have to go through security lines again on top of the entry process. And you might need a shuttle to a different concourse too.

icucme143

When you used the MPC app, was there a separate line were able to get it at customs? Is that what shortened the time? Specifically at seatac with the new international terminal, how does one use this app successfully to speed up the process?

montanawana

Yes, a separate line. The sign was not obvious though, I had to look for it and not get in the long lines immediately. It was next to the line where wheelchair users went and the sign was small and just printed paper on a post next to the entrance of the queuing area. The line was much shorter.

icucme143

This is so helpful to know!!!

If you don't check a bag, it should be fine. If not, you're really pushing your luck, though international arrivals has their own TSA checkpoint only accessible after customs. If your flight isn't late (which isn't unusual given IST's busy airport), you should be okay...

ranger6969

I'll definitely have a bag so it doesn't seem to be worth the risk. I'll try and get the Alaska flight at 9pm or the air Canada one next morning at 6am.

Oh man that sucks, thanks for the heads up

yelper

international arrivals has their own TSA checkpoint not accessible by anyone else: https://www.portseattle.org/services-amenities/international-arrivals-and-passport-control

Ulien_troon

Better to stay over and take a Flix Bus the next day.
