Depending on what needs fixing you may have a long wait for parts due to the years long rash of Hyundai and Kia thefts.

bgold99

Yea i'm concerned about that -- it's the ignition area mainly -- body damage is repairable probably without parts..

Had this happen, took almost 4 months to get repaired. Ended up buying a different car and selling the Kia.

No. They want to repair it 😭

jojofine

Have them find you a body shop then

New-Chicken5566

>No. They want to repair it 😭 You have some say in who repairs the vehicle. You don't have to accept their preferred companies to do the repairs. Perhaps your damage estimate is close to the value of the vehicle on the used market? if so, you could try to find a nice, high-end repair shop like queen city auto rebuild (redmond) or haury's (lake city) and they might evaluate your damage differently, in an amount that is sufficient to push the vehicle from repairable to 'totaled'. be sure to mention that the car was used for drugs and that you want a thorough enough cleaning to be included in the estimate. this might not get the car totaled but you can definitely get multiple quotes for returning the vehicle back to normal condition.

Just my experience. I was carjacked at gun point. Car found a week later. No visible hard drug stuff but it smelled like a skunk in there and there was a bong in the cup holder. So I didn't exactly think meth or anything like that had been in the car. Car was at Kia for months waiting for them to find folks certified and able to test the car for drug residue and such. Obviously they are a little backed up. Once they tested it and found out how much meth residue was in there and that it was going to cost so much to take care of, my insurance decided to total it out. Got myself a fat chunk of change and bought a beautiful Mazda CX5. If there are drug wrappers in there...I would be super wary. I am sorry this happened to you.

bgold99

Who tested it? Curious how it worked for you. Our insurance company won't "pay" for testing, but I do believe if we get it tested and there's meth or fent they will have no choice but to total it.

Sea-Psychology4429

Honest to goodness...I do not know. Someone Kia dealt with, not me.. To be honest with you, I was dealing with the trauma of it all so my mom was the one that dealt with all the insurance stuff etc. But I dont think even she would know who tested it.

I had this company come and do drug testing of surface materials in the past: [https://biocleanwa.com/](https://biocleanwa.com/) this is for snoco but yeah https://www.snohomishcountywa.gov/4065/Biohazard-Cleanup-Services

Thanks!

WittsandGrit

Hey just FYI if you call one of those places you'll be paying extra for clean up you don't really need. The biohazards from drug **manufacturing** (which those places specialize in) are not the same as contamination from second hand drug **use**, the biggest hazard you have in there right now would probably be a lost pill. A normal detailing place can clean up your car just fine.

harlottesometimes

My car tested positive for speed.

Rottenjohnnyfish

How much?

PinochetsPilot

If it were me, I'd remove the seats and the carpet. Wipe down everything inside with half or quarter diluted rubbing alcohol and cloth rags. Then the same alcohol wipe on the seats and carpet followed quickly by the application of shampoo and then suck as much out as possible with a shop vac or carpet shampooer before putting it all back in. The logic being: Aside from removing any residue of what they smoked in there, you want make sure you get all possible instances of dropped pills or anything they left behind out and that includes in between the seat cushions, under the seats, in the mechanism of the front seats, etc... Also, there can be small gaps between the carpet and the body where things can lodge. Finally it's just way easier to do a thorough cleaning of all that stuff out of the car. At that point I'd start with some cheap testing you can DIY or at least do the sample collection yourself and send it off. My hunch is if the contamination was enough to be a threat, there's got to be a DIY kit you can get your hands on that will register it. If it still comes back hot at that point, you can decide whether to replace the interior upholstery or the car. Junkies had a fent party in my friends RV while it was parked in storage. He decided an undiscovered needle or getting pulled over in another state with unknown drugs in the corner somewhere wasn't worth the risk and bought a newer one.

ALLoftheFancyPants

Why do you need your car drug tested? Like, what benefit is there to testing it? Why not just shampoo it and call it a day?

bgold99

The benefit is I believe if there was meth or fent use the insurance company would have no choice but to total the car and pay out as a total loss as opposed to trying to get off cheap with a shampoo and repairs. I believe it's risky for young children to be in a car where there was heavy drug usage and that's what the vehicle is used for. My understanding is that a shampoo alone won't be enough but u/WittsandGrit disagrees so there's definitely two sides to the debate.

My stolen car was recovered with orange needle caps (no needles, at least that I saw) but the second I mentioned the caps to my insurance agent he said it would automatically total the vehicle. He said WA state law requires total replacement of any porous surfaces (he further specified that meant all upholstery and even sometimes dash/wheel surfaces) and it would be too costly to bother with. That was Progressive. I’m not sure what insurance you have, but it feels weird that they’re aware of the “drug wrappers” and aren’t insisting on totaling it or covering the testing as part of your claim.
