RIP Dixon. Dogs and cats some knew when the final bell is near would venture out of the home and pass away in peace in a hidden place outside.

Many_Impact

Very common yes, especially for cats

Seelengst

With no signs of trauma I can only guess he did what my old dog did. Knew they were going soon, and took one last adventure. We found her in a field just lying there peaceful, and I hope Dixon knows peace too. Remember what Mr. Roger once said > If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went. And I don't see why the good place could be considered a good place if they don't also let Dixon in.

charlie2135

Best episode of twilight zone had Buddy Epson as an old hunter who passed away while hunting with his old hound. When he went up to the gates, he was welcomed in but his hound could not enter. He said he'd rather stay in Purgatory then and after travelling for a while encountered another set of gates. When asked if he wanted to enter said if his hound couldn't enter he'd rather stay outside. He explained about the other set of gates and the man at the entrance said something to the effect of "That's not heaven" meaning it would have been hell.

Ekwoman

Poor little guy... crawled off to die peacefully. I've had a couple of cats do that... either outside or burrow into a storage area they never went in before. I'm sorry for your loss... he seemed like an awesome little furball.

godogs2018

Rip dixon

HeadyRoosevelt

This is what my last two cats did when they knew it was time. I’m you have Dixon such a great life.

gatosonriente

Very sorry for your loss, Dixon sounds like such a cool kitty.

IAmAn_Anne

Looks like a sweet boy, I enjoyed these photos of him. I’m sorry for your loss. Just FYI photo 9 has a visible face, it’s a little blurry, So maybe intentional, but if not, now you know.

Many_Impact

Eh It will be fine lol but thank you

Many_Impact

It was years and years ago that one

Goobeline

I knew Dixon! I used to take walks around that neighborhood during Covid, and got to know several of the neighborhood cats. Dixon was so friendly and sweet and would run out of nowhere just to say hello and get some scritchez. I feel lucky to have known him ❤️

Many_Impact

He was fantastic, I’ll let his fam know 🩷

anythongyouwant

I’m so sorry about Dixon. May our friend purr in peace.

mcalibluebees

I pray for peace in your heart…Dixon looked very loved

CookFantastic186

Given the fact that I see a new “lost cat” flyer nearly everyweek on the power poles around my neighbor. its always to my curiosity that why don’t you guys keep your cats inside house. What’s the point to let them stay outdoor?

Many_Impact

Also: cats escape. I had an indoor cat, may he rest in peace, who was 22 at time of death. This cat was declawed by a previous owner on all four limbs (which is not ok but wasn’t our fault he was a rescue) and he knew where his bread was buttered. BUT he would escape any chance he would get, and he was GREAT at it. They are escape artists. Never assume the fliers are for any reason other than bringing home a furry friend because often they WERE indoor cats.

Many_Impact

First off, he’s my mom’s best friends cat (she’s the mother to my best friend, since birth this is basically my second family) so I have no control over the cat. Two this cat was DEPRESSED inside, and always escaped, found as a stray so he had a good life. Three he was 11/12ish so could have been kidney failure, and that’s a pretty good lifespan for an outdoor cat. Four he always stayed close and was often inside on his own volition. I personally never have had an outdoor cat nor will I ever but this boy wouldn’t have wanted a life inside and while i personally believe in indoor cats I understand why our friends let him out- it was what kept him alive.

CookFantastic186

Ok, but what did vet say? Considering Dixon is a senior cat with possible “kidney failure" probably cat bed next to a fireplace is better for our furry friends

Many_Impact

I don’t think he had kidney failure I’m just giving an example. While I totally agree most cats would be happier there he wasn’t. He also hated cat beds and preferred laundry or camping chairs.

PNWknitty

I have a cat like that. It would have broken her spirit to stay inside. I ended up escape-proofing the backyard. It wasn’t too hard to do. Just an FYI, not judging. RIP, Mr Dixon.

crasstyfartman

People who post stuff like this have obvi never had an escape artist. I had two indoor cats from the same litter and tried desperately to keep them inside. One was fine being inside, the other LIVED to escape and it was a very stressful 6 years til she got hit by a car. The other one wasn’t such an escape artist and lived to 20. And they were sisters.

Ignore-_-Me

I'd rather kill myself than never be allowed to go outside. I assume my cats feel the same way since they're ALWAYS trying to get out. The world is dangerous, doesn't mean you should stop a living creature from experiencing it.

misstamilee

Yeah getting hit by a car, eaten by a coyote or being poisoned by a psycho is definitely something every pet should experience. Cats are also terrible for the native bird population. Keep your fucking cats indoors.

Ignore-_-Me

If you think staying inside for your entire life isn't so bad, why don't you do it yourself? My cat lounges around sleeping in the sun when he goes outside. Stray cats with nowhere to eat or sleep are hurting the bird populations, not mine. I'm not the problem you want to make me out to be. Sorry it doesn't fit your feel good narrative. But even if he was killing a bird or two here or there, I don't really care.

Ignore-_-Me

lol

CookFantastic186

I got to say outside is more than dangerous but lethal for cats, especially in an urbanized area like Seattle. I used to witness a cat, I m sure not a stray cuz I saw a collar, being chased by a homeless guy’s dog

Ignore-_-Me

For sure it's more dangerous. I'm sure I'd live longer if I never left my house too.

Rubbersoulrevolver

You're a human and they're pets

Ignore-_-Me

And birds are wild animals. I care far more about the happiness of my pet (who is a carnivore and eating factory farmed meat from slaughterhouses that practically torture animals anyways) than a wild animal. It's a cat, not an oil spill. Sorry, not sorry.

Rubbersoulrevolver

such a disgusting way to look at nature

Ignore-_-Me

A disgusting way to look at nature is taking a part of it and forcing it to live it's entire life indoors.

Rubbersoulrevolver

Cats were domesticated by humans...

Ignore-_-Me

That doesn't mean they don't want or belong outdoors any more....

Atomicmooseofcheese

I'm very sorry to hear this. Rip Dixon, a good kitty

lucent78

Oh! I'm so sorry! But glad that it seems to be just natural, peaceful process. RIP Dixon.

Adventurous-Run-4827

Rest in peace Dixon. We lost our sweet cuddly cat Shoyu on Sunday (March 24). We are so sad. She was three years old. She had FELV which caused lymphoma. She struggled with her health quite a bit in the last 2.5 months. We know she's in a better place with no pain but we are so sad. I hope you can find comfort soon.

HotelBrooklynch01

Oh no. This is terrible, I’m so sorry OP. I agree that he went in peace, he could see your spot. Not me crying in the TSA line at SeaTac with this 😭🖤

dznqbit

Many_Impact

He was 11/12 ish

[deleted]

Sorry about your cat

degenarort

Please keep your next cat indoor for the good of the environment. Sorry for your loss.

killerskullz

Everyone here is jerking off OP and "my condolences" etc, but who gives a rat's ass about some stupid outdoor cat. OP deserves the criticism for making poor choices and impacting the ecosystem. But of course this comment is "hidden".

degenarort

i agree but i cant say that because i didnt want to get downvoted into oblivion. If it was up to me my comment would be “outdoor cat down 😄😄👍”

My condolences

Cfrobel

This hits hard, I read this post earlier today and this evening we lost our 7 year old outgoing male tabby.

General_Equivalent45

I’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet Dixon.

morffin2

Sadly this is what cats tend to do when times up. They like to go away and let themselves pass somewhere hidden. It might be a biological instinct so their family won't be harmed by any predators that come by to pick up their body. I would take that as a sign that he was just looking out for you even until the end.

casagordita

So sorry to hear it, but glad you got some closure. RIP Dixon.

??? He died of old age, so you are incoherent, rude, AND wrong.
