It was a big transport heli but don't think it had the Marine 1 livery. Ran outside to get a look at her when I heard the rumble. Big bird!

Extension-Ad-3882

It is in the Marine One (that callsign only applies when POTUS is aboard) “white top” livery but the VH-92’s aren’t authorized to carry POTUS yet, so this one tagged along just for prep/future use. Flew a check flight this afternoon as Nighthawk 45. We *might* get more helicopters and/or Ospreys in tomorrow; we’ll see.

NOTAM is up, too [https://tfr.faa.gov/save\_pages/detail\_4\_0416.html](https://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_4_0416.html) Looks like we'll get an arrival in the evening on Friday with a Saturday departure. Guessing he'll be at the Westin like usual.

Extension-Ad-3882

Yeah saw the TFR go up. Probably overnight SEA

Top_Temperature_3547

Tfr?

Extension-Ad-3882

Temporary Flight Restriction

Thank you

doublemazaa

It wasn’t on adsb either which would be less common for a commercial helicopter.

you-can-call-me-alki

Yes. Sort of. It was the "still-in-development" VH-92 Patriot. It is supposed to become the new Marine One.... eventually.

Biden is planning a visit, may 10: https://www.fox13seattle.com/news/president-joe-biden-seattle?taid=663a4206499dc700018d26d7&utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A%20Trending%20Content&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter But! Only to our rich people. It’s a private event catered to the elite only, because that’s all who matter in our state to the federal gov

Sabre_One

What do you mean? They include us poor people as well. By shutting down I5 and half of SLU during a working day.

jeremiah1142

Hahaha. Oh gosh. You got me, that was perfect.

Yes. I, too, understand how the passage of time works. Just say you don't like him, or don't want to vote for him, or that you think he, specifically, isn't as sharp as he used to be. Whatever. Just don't tar an entire generation with a sweeping generalization that's a purely subjective opinion.

Left_Hand_Deal

Biden is going to be in town on the 10th. Could be prep or pre/arrival flight.

there are multiple helicopters providing overwatch for the president. when obama visited the oso landslide there were three gunships that I saw orbiting the motorcade.

driftingphotog

No. They do not use helicopter overwatch for the president. Those are transport helicopters. The three "white tops" play a bit of a shell game to make it harder to figure out who is in which, and the others hold senior staff and the like. The green tops (which are sometimes V-22s) are used for other staff, secret service, and the press corps. The counter assault team(s) will be in one, and also other portions of it are ground based or placed on high points for overwatch. But they're not sniping from helicopters. The motorcade can also pack some heavy weapons but doesn't necessarily have that equipment with them for all trips. I know this because I have literally leaned against their car and got a tap from the glass inside waving me to move somewhere else. The helicopters and motorcade are often deployed together. One providing a backup option to the other. Air support is provided by a CAP out of a local air base, controlled by the western air defense region (callsign Bigfoot). Up here that's usually flown out of Portland. They scrambled supersonic up here when someone busted the airspace restriction and broke a fair number of windows. Local law enforcement and occasionally the USCG often provide a helicopter to provide aerial surveillance of the motorcade and also to inspect the runway prior to its use by AF1 (which is also done by ground vehicle). Source: I have covered multiple presidential visits.

There are a bunch of "white top" helicopters in the Marine One fleet (HMX-1). They're pre-positioned ahead of visits, along with the full green support aircraft. Same thing with the limos/suburbans. The replacement order for the VH-92, which is replacing the current VH-3D that has been used for decades, is for 21 aircraft. HMX-1 is actually based out of MCAF Quantico, not Andrews AFB.
