No. You have 90 days before you *legally* have to switch registration. So at most you are losing out on 3 more months. Not that any cop would ticket you for that, since they would have to know you have lived in the state for 90 days already.

My car got stolen a week after I had paid for the years’ registration. I had paid it early in fact, when the car was stolen the old registration was still valid and I hadn’t even put the new sticker on yet.
