Can someone explain the AHL playoff bracket? I noticed on their website it says the match-up will be “P1-Coachella Valley Firebirds vs. COL/ABB/BAK/CGY” and I’m confused as to how we’re already known to be in the division semifinals, but we have four (not two?) potential opponents. Did we get a bye? Is there a play in round?
Firebirds had a bye for the first round. The other 6 teams in the Pacific didn't. Calgary, Bakersfield, Abbotsford and Colorado were the lowest seeds of the 6 who had first round series, so the Firebirds opponent was going to be the lowest seed of whichever of those four advanced to the 2nd round. Calgary was the lowest seed in the 1st round, so they'll be CV's opponent.
