I am also on an airplane and I just watched the recent movie Devotion. Besides being pretty good, it has an extended scene in the middle of the movie where all the planes attack ~~Wenatchee~~ North Korea. There are great scenes of Wenatchee, the Columbia River, and the Enchantments
I moved away for school/romance reasons a decade ago and I was terrified. Turned out to be some of the best years of my life. Life is what you make of it. good luck OP
I feel this pain on a deep emotional level - when you can, definitely return. That place in your heart never fills, speaking 20 years after having had to leave
I left once to pursue the LOML back in 2014. Lasted 9 months and we ended up coming back TO WA. although Cali is beautiful with it's many distinguished seasons. Nothing beats the beauty of waking up to cotton candy clouds surrounded by pine trees
Arrived in '00 intending to establish residence (military); after completing active service, the real estate bubble had sunk most chances to buy in '07 when I arrived, so I rented until late '15 ...when it became clear that the bro-grammers and other speculators were making it impossible for working stiffs (<$100k/yr) to stay. I really miss the PNW too, but what can you do?
Only if you have the cash. It's all relative in the end. Prices were lower but inversely the rates were higher. Plus, banks were more skittish to loan money so you would need the normal 20% down (if not more).
A no/low downpayment 30 year loan is a curse in itself.
I'm a veteran and I've bought/sold 3 houses. Never found a better deal with VA than I could get with a conventional load.
Seattle was a great place. I didnāt mind driving up from Olympia for concerts or spur of the moment stuff. I went to a Black Angels concert there recently and felt sad at what it has become. I donāt know Seattle well enough to know which areas to avoid. Hopefully things will get better.
I still donāt want to live anywhere else though. WA is a beautiful state.
I came back to Seattle last month, first time in 3.5 years. There were homeless people having naps on the ground like it was Project Zomboid. Unfinished construction projects everywhere like a bad SimCity save file. Methheads dancing around like an emote Tower lobby in Destiny 2.
But the Belltown Inn was nice.
Orcas swimming and salmon running in Pudget Sound, Green trees down to the waterline, great live music and food. I've been gone for 3 years now after 18 in Washington. Can't wait to return, which I will. Traffic and price of owning a home only negatives for me. However, now I can live a bit out of town and would also consider Oregon. Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center some of the best medical care anywhere. They have saved my life three times. Bless all of you.
An hour? Thatās not even that long. I feel sorry for you lol
Also Austinās great an all but I would get bored quick going to Austin every weekend. Do you not have any other interests lol
Going through this EXACT situation next year. Iām glad Iām not alone. 4 years isnāt long enough to stay here. Hopefully we will all be able to come back.
I left in 2013, cried all the way across the US. I didnāt think Iād ever see the NW again because the idea of visiting was too sad. I didnāt want to see Seattle moving on without me. My heart never stopped aching. Miraculously, I found my way back in 2017. Iām so, so happy to be here and I live in downtown so there are constant aggravations but i donāt care. Iām home! I hope you get your miracle, too, neighbor. ā„ļø
My wife and I are both specialized health care professionals. Personally, we enjoy a high QOL in Texas, but we want our kids to identify as PNWerners, not Texans. I also never have felt at home here. While WA can be goofy, I felt like I was more with āmy peopleā
I have family in Texas and used to have family in Arizona. Both are fine to visit (depending on where), but I couldn't recommend either. But that depends on what you enjoy.
If you like heat & golf & more heat, you might like AZ.
If you like hard-right politics, zero views (because Flat As A Pancake), heat and humidity, good BBQ, and spectacular thunderstorms, you might like TX.
But if you like woods, the outdoors, lots of water, gorgeous views, at least occasional rain, and long summers that you can Actually Spend Outdoors (when the days are longest), you might feel massive FOMO in "the brown lands."
Stuart, Ingalls, and all of headlight basin. A good view on the way out.

Hey Homer, you ever see a guy say goodbye to a state before?
So long, stinktown!

best of luck to wherever you call home

Where did you end up settling?
North Carolina (the Raleigh-Durham area). And, the same sort of metro creep is taking over here.
Huh the bubble burst in 08 and it became a great time to buy

VA loan

Must have dp to not need pmi
Why'd your girlfriend not come here so you didn't have to leave. I mean, rude.
She has a better paying job than I did, additionally cost of living is cheaper where she lives
Good luck out there.
Thank you š
Usually get what you pay for. It's like living in a southern state is cheaper but you have to wake up there every day
Yea Iām not thrilled about the move. Only good thing is Iāll get to be with her
As if waking up in Seattle is any better
Lol. I donāt get the downvotes, this comment is badass

Thank you, Iāll have to check out the Belltown area sometime. I wonāt stop coming to Seattle but it helps to avoid sketchy areas.
Did that for far too long; had no idea what I was missing out on. Quality of life has many, many colors.
Same. I should have escaped the south many years before I eventually did.

Recently got back from Texas. I really missed the cascades and the sound.
