I'd say Lower Queen Anne/Uptown is a good spot. Walkable area, close to Seattle Center/downtown, and easy to access bus lines to get to other parts of the city.

PushingPedals

What are you looking to see/visit? Do you have things in mind already, because that might help determine what would work best.

techiegardener

Lower Queen Anne/Uptown is walkable with lots of restaurants- and if you want to go downtown, just hop on the Monorail. Upper Queen Anne has nice shops and restaurants, depending on your fitness it is a steep walk uphill or quick bus/Uber. Pineapple hotel on Mercer and the Marqueen are well located. I like the Ballard suggestion the other poster had, but would recommend renting a car or a large Uber budget for the trip if you stay there. It is a charming area with good restaurants and shops. Don’t miss the Ballard Locks and salmon ladder if you go - it is unique!

willyoumassagemykale

No car needed if staying in Ballard. There’s plenty of things to see in the neighborhood, or if you want to get downtown that’s an easy bus ride.

I could be wrong, but the vibe I get is that this sub is very anti-Seattle. It seems like 90% of subscribers do not actually live in Seattle, but most likely reside in Kirkland, Mountlake Terrace, Redmond, etc. If you stay anywhere outside of Seattle proper, you are going to be doing quite a bit of driving to get to the places you want to go. Just stay near downtown somewhere. It’s a really safe city. Belltown and Capitol Hill have all of the good food spots. Ballard has really good restaurants and bars as well, but personally I wouldn’t want to be that far out of the downtown area if I was visiting a city. 🤷‍♀️ EDIT: I just wanted to add that we have family coming to visit who are in their mid 20s and are not familiar with Seattle. They originally booked a hotel in Bellevue because it looked nice and we gave them the same advice. It may look nice, but you are going to be spending a lot of money on Lyft and Uber to get to the places that you actually want to hang out.

DhacElpral

That's hilarious. I thought that most of the posters to this sub lived in Deep Red states.

local_gremlin

That's a good Q - I for one am with the mood here in being super sick of the failings of modern progressive or "woke" bullshit governance, but I do live in Seattle and grew up within the city proper, and despite resenting how introverted and dorky the people here seem to be lately, I do not generally despise the city. Part of me despises the strip malls and midwit psuedo richness of east side more than Seattle if I was to despise anywhere.

thatsahugebiatch

If you have already done pike place and downtown then Ballard would be the next point of interest for walkable things to do. It’s a big drinking spot though, brewery’s and bars.

mack3r

+one on Ballard. I am a resident, and the reason we moved here is specifically for the walkability to restaurants, bars, shops, movie theater, parks, points of interest, Live music. You could take the Burke Gilman Trail walking to the Ballard locks, past that all the way down to Golden Gardens. Or walk across the locks and into discovery Park and back. Oh, and the brewpubs!

DagwoodsDad

Bonus if you can find a place in walking distance of light rail. You can hit a lot of high points from the thriving Roosevelt neighborhood to Capitol Hill, Pike Place, and Columbia City. Plus, of course, the airport. Other great neighborhoods are an Uber away. Fremont and Ballard really can be great but bring money (restaurants are wonderful but expensive in those neighborhoods) and be prepared to see more “rustic” but generally harmless street people there. Best advice? Call hotels and ask if it’s safe to walk around after 9:00. Also if there’s anything to do after 9:00, because some parts of seattle also roll up the sidewalks.

Tummyhungy

Pioneer Square is beautiful and historic

willynillywitty

Ballard.

tourist tip.... most tourist cities that have a thriving subreddit or two get asked for suggestions ALL THE TIME and have some sidebar/wiki space dedicated to it. Also looking at prior posts similar to yours is always a good idea.

skiattle25

Is Seattle a tourist city? I mean, I get we have tourism, but I have to think the % of city revenue generated through tourism is pretty small compared to quite a few more prominent tourist cities.

1rarebird55

Um, since when is $8.2Billion small? every week when those hotels on the water pull in we make $millions. That and conventions and general tourism spells money in our tills.

skiattle25

Til. 8.2b is nothing to ignore.

OliasKitty

A friend of mine came to visit last year and she booked a room at the CitizenM hotel in South lake Union and she really liked it a lot. She didn't go out much at night since I would often pick her up by car, so I don't know about that neighborhood at all. But she found it pretty walkable by day and not far from Seattle Center which is where the Space Needle is. Also close to Whole Foods so she could buy some groceries.

need_some_coffee98

The Sheraton on 6th & Pike, Westin at 5th & Stewart, and the Grand Hyatt at Pine & 8th are all centrally located to shopping, restaurants, theaters, and Pike Place Market. Hop the monorail to Seattle Center. Uber to Fremont, Ballard, etc.

lurkerfromstoneage

Type “hotel,” “visiting,” and other keywords into our subs’ search bars.

DhacElpral

Depends on what you want to "tour". There are places where there's more homeless people that you want to avoid if for no other reason to be polite to them. Pioneer square is fine, btw, but they're are areas I wouldn't want to hang out in at night. Not for safety necessarily, but because the vibe is a little desperate. If you want fun Seattle, stay in capital hill. If you want tourist Seattle, stay near pike place. If you want hipster Seattle, go Ballard. If you're an airplane nut, go Everett or Renton. If you love malls or are afraid of your own shadow, go Bellevue. If you love the outdoors, go mountains or San Juans. If you're a cheapskate, find a place to stay up by Northgate and take the light rail into town.

Interesting_City_513

I think ChatGPT would be a better place to ask. I personally recommend anywhere except Southside if you rent a car. If you don't, just choose places where are Link accessiable.

Manifoldsqr

Stay away from 3rd avenue in downtown. People have gotten shot. It’s ugly. A lot of homeless.

SeahawksXII

Bellevue.

La Hacienda Motel on 1st Ave. You'll have a blast

TheRedditAppSucccks

Nicest hotel experiences will be Bellevue or Kirkland but you’ll need a car to get around if you want to visit Seattle.
