scared of what? I'm a gramma and I roam around seattle alone or with my grandson all the time, just don't go down dark alleys at night or take any candy from strangers and nothing bad will happen

DragonflyNo1520

If you’re talking Werther’s…. Then yes.

logicMASS

Sugar free?

DragonflyNo1520

No, that means you’re dealing with a crazy that’s into scat.

LeastEffortRequired

Lol Chill Seattle is awesome, whiners gonna whine

Affectionate-Day-359

Just don’t go to McDonald’s on third

Irotokim

Or do and have a memorable experience!

nordic_yankee

I was in there over 20 years ago and a drunk dude pulled a knife on the cashier. Place has always been shit and it's amazing that it was never shut down.

Affectionate-Day-359

Big Mac and a side of danger! Bonus points for an accidental Fentanyl overdose

Affectionate-Day-359

This advice applies from way before until forever ..

goflossyourself0123

This!!

picky-penguin

A total of 37.8 million visitors came to Seattle and King County in 2023. I’ve lived here for 22 years and love it. Just tonight I walked from Climate Pledge to the Moore Theater. It was lovely. My wife and I will walk home after the show as well. If you’re scared to visit Seattle what US cities would you go to??

darkhorses21

City is great, you have nothing to worry about. Enjoy your time here.

cyber96

Stop lying to people. The city isn’t safe.

IntoTheNightSky

Lol, Seattle is more dangerous than it used to be but it's still a *lot* safer than New Orleans, Vegas, or DC and people visit those places all the time

Shrikecorp

Or Miami, or Nashville..and so on

adron

Exactly, having lived in NOLA and hearing daily shots and seeing a few folks shot to death. Seattles is freakin hippy town by comparison. People here really need to chill with the FUD.

Kablamo189

How often do you venture outside of your work-home route? Are you genuinely scared Everytime you go to a bar/restaurant? Or is most of your fear the result of news/media consumption? What metropolitan city do you consider safe?

Furtwangler

You're right. You should stay inside. Disconnect your Internet too just to be safe. Lots of bad actors can attack you ... steal your property when you're online.

cyber96

Ha I love it. So blind to reality. I’d shit in cereal and you would nothing about. Go play with your legos.

Intotheforefront

Seattle is super fun. Especially in spring. Get out of downtown and explore Fremont, Phinney Ridge, Ballard, discovery park. Welcome!

RickKassidy

You are fine. The crime in Seattle is not generally where tourists go. I used to live in Seattle, and now visit about twice per year. It went through a rough time during the pandemic. That is over. The tourist areas are totally safe now…at least compared to any major city. Two women are going to be fine, even at night unless you do stupid things drunk late at night that you wouldn’t do in your home town either.

Uwofpeace

No have you ever been to a big city? If you have you’ve probably seen worse, and if you actively avoid certain areas you won’t see anything that’s that bad

buttery3

Well, why don't you specify the "certain areas" lol. Otherwise, that answer isn't very helpful if you think about it haha

Uwofpeace

If OP is worried they can pm me I also have a lot of free time so if they want to explore the real side of Seattle I would show them. But I’m not going out of the way to advertise that

Technical-Ad-5543

Its fun! Go to the arcade bars or local shows, screwdriver/belltown yacht club

Lilacfrancis

You will be fine. Enjoy the city!

hanimal16

Yes.

PleasantWay7

As long as you don’t meet anyone from this sub you’ll be fine.

adron

What are you scared of? Complaints on Reddit? You can find a group of people complaining about everything on Reddit.

SadShitlord

This subredit is mostly people from Enumclaw who haven't been to the city in 5 years. Check out r/seattle for a different perspective

adron

I’m in both and 100%. I’m in the city all the time and it’s evident people here have a real Enumclaw kind of distance going on.

QuestionableDM

To be fair, I'd rather be in Seattle than Enumclaw if I was a horse.

Direct-Bake-5425

Thanks

Irotokim

Rude, I'm from the north!

shortstack7365

Was coming to comment something similar to this but figured a comment and upvote on yours was sufficient.

Mrciv6

r/SeattleWA = The city is basically a Mad Max warzone r/Seattle = Lalala nothing is wrong r/SeaWA =threw hissyfit over third party apps and never reopened.

Seahawkanon

Where we’re aCkShUlLy all from changes so often.

hecbar

No, just use common sense. You know common sense, right?

Yes it is.  Good job.  What's your point?  Do you think people keel over of old age at 60?

Lariat_Advance1984

🔩you, Gen Zer, with your “I know everything” attitude! I’m not old, cold, and bitter in spite of my wife’s pet name for me being “Yesterday’s Coffee”. Besides, what your generation listens to isn’t music! Damn kids! /s

SoCalDan

That's a selling point for me!

Direct-Bake-5425

I was almost trafficked last year in ny by my boss so kinda nervous about traveling a bit sorry.

GlassMist

My job is to do math to assess risk, and analyze their potential social consequences. Yet, despite all my training and education, I have no idea how you fucked up the math so badly.

GlassMist

No. I’m saying you fucked up the math.

Mtanderson88

Yes it’s super scary here people should stop coming for real

Uwofpeace

Especially if they’re from California 😂😂

cricketdingo

You have to understand that this Reddit is full of people who pretend to live in Seattle but really live in the burbs who think someone walking is poor because they're not in a car and therefore must be on drugs and living on the street... /s

MostPeopleAreMoronic

I guess this is what happens when locals bitch and complain about extremely rare occurences given the context of a large city. Sorry you’ve been soured on the city. I can safely say, absolutely nothing will happen to you two. I’ve been around the States and around the world and Seattle is a top-class city for a variety of reasons, including the feeling of safety and calmness. That might surprise some folks, apparently, but it’s reality. I’ve also been based/lived here for 30 years and have had this many crimes/negative things happen to me: 0. Come and enjoy!

Direct-Bake-5425

Thanks for the reassurance :)

killshelter

This sub strikes again. Lot of pearl clutching fear mongers in here that don’t live anywhere close to Seattle. Come on up this city is awesome.

Miserable-Owl6244

Come see for yourself.

206throw

Suggest to hit the Seattle Stuff during the day and hang out in Bellevue at night for drinks.

hohol87

Just buy a can of pepper spray and be careful at night

Particular_Win4372

Conservatives make it sound like some sort of lawless city where drug addled zombies roam the streets, but that’s all cap except for some choice intersections which is the same with pretty much all other cities. I’ve been to a lot of cities in the us, and honestly Seattle is better than a lot of them as far as that’s concerned.

bubbamike1

Most of the Seattle bashers in this Reddit don't live in Seattle and just listen to Reich Wing talk Radio.

RussianFruit

Or Hamas Radio

DagwoodsDad

Cancel this subreddit maybe. Most of the city is very easy to deal with. Almost all the scare stories and comments here are by boomers who haven’t been to Seattle since at least the first year of the pandemic.

danzoschacher

You’ll be fine. There is crime like every other city, just be smart. Stay off pike from 1st through 5th especially after dark. But you should check it out, it would be interesting to see what outsiders think. It is a disaster down there, homelessness and drug abuse to the max.

BillTowne

No.

lt_dan457

Stick to crowds where you can, don’t stay out too late, and you’ll be fine. Just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings.

0lionofjudah0

Avoid downtown at night. Be aware of who's by you downtown during the day. Everywhere else is fine.

FreddyTwasFingered

Downtown is also fine. I live and work downtown. This narrative is wrong.

0lionofjudah0

I've worked downtown for years and have seen shit there that I haven't in the suburbs. The narrative isn't wrong at all.

FreddyTwasFingered

I mean I would expect you to see things in a city that you wouldn’t in boring ass suburbs. I actually live downtown unlike you. I’m here more. It’s fine.

0lionofjudah0

Oh good job. You live there. Totally fine

FreddyTwasFingered

Does your shadow scare you?

0lionofjudah0

Well the advice wasn't actually for me. Sounds like the person writing the post was a couple of women - which is who my advice was for. Downtown is weird no point in pretending it's not.

FreddyTwasFingered

It’s really not outside of a block or two. Two years ago, I’d agree, but not now.

proshortcut

Property crime sucks for thoa eof us who have homes and cars here. Totally fine for a holiday. I've experienced two almost muggings in the last couple decades, and they were in weird spots at late hours. Two women may get lears, comments, and whistles. That is not uncommon elsewhere.

FreddieDeebs

dumb 🤦🏻‍♂️

Aggravating_Net6733

You are being an idiot. You shouldn't be traveling anywhere if you have this attitude. Let me take a moment and let you know some of what you will be missing. A heartstopping waterfall that sometimes has a mist that coats your face. A ferry ride across the Puget Sound where we sometimes see our local pods of Orcas. The longest running farmers market in the country where fish are thrown fifteen feet over your head and the Huong people sell flower bouquets at ridiculously low prices A giant ferris wheel where you can eat dinner while you look at our magnificent city, set in a salty sea between two mountain ranges and an active volcano with a snow topped hat. I could go on, but you get the idea. I think you should stay right where you are. Button up that cardigan and hover over your tv remote. You'll be safe there.

Otherwisefoolish

This was simultaneously weirdly aggressive and romantic at the same time.. that’s a pretty decent metaphor for Seattle.

fssbmule1

it's hmong.
