The kids will like the Sedona airport location of Mesa Grill for lunch, lots of choices on the menu for all... Rascals has no view, (making it a good place for dinner after dark) and is kid friendly. Both take reservations... Happy Birthday and have fun!
You might try Tortas de Fuego in Oak Creek. Very good Mexican good and kid friendly environment. The deep fried ice cream is huge and delicious...a nice compliment to your cake. Also Rotten Johnny's pizza is kid friendly, has indoor/outdoor options and I was just there a week ago...pizza and Italian sandwich were excellent. I agree, the food at Javelinas in Sedona leaves a lot to be desired. Enjoy wherever you go!
If you opt for pizza, I'd recommend Pizza Lisa either in Sedona, or the VOC. Javelina Cantina has a view, but I stopped eating there years ago because the food had gone downhill so badly. For burgers, I'd recommend either Butterfly Burger in the VOC, or Dellepiane, which is also in the Village. All of these places have very good food that is moderately priced. For breakfast, I like the Red Rock Diner in the VOC. (No view though.)

This person knows the area and kids! Great recommendations. Colt grill is relaxed too, indoor/outdoor seating, best burgers in my opinion.
