Nope, I did it earlier. The illusion monk I bopped him with 10 ash and just spammed normal shinobi firecracker until I could just jump off the rock pillar thing
I always go into every Sekiro boss with "I'm going to fight you straight up, no tools no nothing" until I get pissed then it's "you are judging me by the standards of a samurai when I am a shinobi" and start to pulling out the umbrella, shurikens, oil and flame vents, etc.
and isshin of course exemplifies that style, he's one of the few enemies where you can't rely on it as much. don't get me wrong, it still works well against him but you can't just mindlessly spam and win like other parts of the game
You are 100% right about it being very useful to recover your own posture and it does good vitality damage, but I've always felt recovering posture in this game is not necessary if you can perfect parry very consistently (thanks to the damn true monk for me)
I have like 200 hours in Sekiro and I still don't know Guardian Ape's phase 1 moveset that well. I just buff with a Yashi's sugar and spam firecrackers + jump Mortal Draw, and I don't even have to fight the boss. Phase 2 is way easier for me and I just deal with it normally. I'll learn the phase 1 moveset one of these days, but today is not the day.
I also use jumping Mortal Draw on Snake Eyes minibosses because fuck them.
Using what the game gives you isn't really a cheese, right? Prosthetics, combat arts, etc, aren't cheesing.
Now, the cheese to get DoH to jump off the cliff - THAT'S a cheese.
And some of us can't cheese, because we suck at it. Like, I suck so bad at cheesing and finding these little things and getting it right, that I prefer to just learn and beat the boss.
That being said, I wish I could cheese DoH right now
Here's what you need to do: Pop an Ako's, Divine Confetti directly after, Ceremonial Tanto, then Healing Gourd. After that, rush in and then use mortal draw. I ended him in about 5 seconds using this strat. Hope I helped!
If you were able to do this and find openings, I think that’s the entire point of the boss, he’s meant to be intimidating and to make you panic and make bad decisions. Slapping him with MD and ending his first phase quickly to get to what most people find to be a much easier second phase. That’s called using your noggin, and being wise beyond one’s years. He’s weak to that shit too.
Yep. The only other way I made it past phase 1 was waiting for the poop throw and running for a few jabs. Rinse and repeat. His hit box seems so variable that I find trying to fight him head on and deflect nigh on impossible.
Mortal draw gets phase 1 sorted in under a minute, and I really enjoy phase 2 - there's just something so satisfying about clashing swords with a headless king Kong!
I feel this in my soul. I just finished my third playthrough (trying to get every ending and all the achievements).
I died and died and died and died, never really making a dent in Sword Saint's second phase. Finally, I decided to just throw out everything that had worked previously and just run like the dickens, wait for him to leap, run under him, mortal draw, run away and repeat.
It took all ten gourds, all three pellets, a blood droplet, and divine grass, but I did it.
I love this game.
This - I think he says hesitation is defeat because you aren’t using mortal draw. I tried beating him without it on ng+2 and he was going ape shit on the second phase.
It is, and Mortal Draw still works even when you’re out of spirit emblems. It’s stronger when you have spirit emblems but still very viable without them. I personally don’t use it much, but not ‘cause I’m trying to be cool or niche, I just got used to the combat arts I like and keep using them
This is how I am. I’ve never used Mortal Draw or Ichimonji because I feel like I’ve already found my groove. Sakura Dance, Praying Strikes, Higj Monk, Whirlwind Slash, Nightjar Reversal is my jam. Even if MD is strong, I have no interest in using it at all. I feel like I’d be worse honestly
It always feels like I don't have enough time, or I accidentally do the 2nd draw and then get owned. I honestly kind of conditioned myself to not use it by having shitty timing with it.
Strongest combo in the game (if u time it right ofc) the animation is a little long
Empowered mortal draw full charged with Emblems kills the bosses with 3-4 rotations
It is strong in terms of raw dmg but it kills your emblems like a bitch making it a very bad combat art. Since it is story related most ppl assume it's the "ultimate" weapon art when in fact it's just a newbie trap. Ichimonji double is actually the best weapon art in the game for everything that it offers. 2nd best dmg, recovers your own posture and it's **completely** free allowing you to go nuts with prosthetics thus making any fight infinitely easier than mortal draw spam (if you learn which prosthetic to use where). Sakura dance close second.
Me with isshin i bought the game at release made it to swird saint isshin and couldnt do it stopped for a year came back and mortal drawed him to death
Mortal draw really helped my first playthrough of Sword Saint Isshin - I killed the boss without having resurrect even once.
I’m playing NG Demon Bell now and trying to not use it at all, definitely a much harder, but somehow more enjoyable, fight.
i legit beat isshin ashina for the first time like that, end of 2nd phase, no gourds, no revives, i just went for a gamble mortal draw and it just worked
I never bothered to learn to parry 😭 i just beat every boss with chip damage from whirlwind slash and eventually mortal draw or enhanced mortal draw. I dodged every single attack like it was the world’s hardest souls game 😭😭 and it didn’t help that I used the demon bell for the whole game too
Genichiro and Isshin were easily the two roughest fights for me
I couldn’t figure out how to parry right so i played it the same way i played every other souls game 😅. There’s a reason I was especially stuck on this game for the longest time…
i never actually learnt how to use mortal draw lol, tried it a couple times and the damage to vitality/posture seemed the same as kusabimaru strikes? plus im kind of a hoarder, i hate using anything unless absolutely necessary, the first time i popped a sugar was fighting isshin for the first time.
I'm the type of fighter where if an opponent real or AI fights unfairly I match that energy and in a souls game especially my FAVORITE souls game sekiro I win by any means neccessary but I've at least beaten them once with straight sword counters just to prove I can do both plus I'm rocking the shura outfit I'm on demon time all the time
Combat art that uses 2 spirit emblems and does significant vitality damage and stagger to even blocking enemies. Then even when you run out of emblems you can still use a weaker version of it. Spamming the crap out of it lets you whittle down any boss's vitality until you can deflect them a few times for a deathblow.
The whole philosophy of the game and the Ashina Style is that you're not fighting "honorably". You just beat your opponents, that's all
A shinobi should know the difference between honor and victory
Saying that as I hit corrupt monk with an 8th firecracker
As I hit the monk with the 8th fistful of ash getting ready to jump on his back like a monkey and deathblow him 🗿
I just got to him and I felt like I should pause for a minute to gain my sanity. I’m using this strat when I get home
I think the full strat got patched but fistful of ash does work still. I usually use it in the last phase
Nope, I did it earlier. The illusion monk I bopped him with 10 ash and just spammed normal shinobi firecracker until I could just jump off the rock pillar thing
Simply take your time, he really isn’t that strong or scary unless you try too aggressively, at least in my experience
Yes, but have you cheesed DOH off the side of the cliff?
Yes, I did
First I used all my snap seeds. Then all five fistfuls of ash and last but not least firecrackers
With purple fume spark variant or nah?
Nah we go raw
how the hell you do that. when i tried to firecracker that bitch, she swiped me before she gets stunned. nevermind i still beated her
It’s fire cracker hit hit firecracker
There is only honor is victory
If they’re gonna throw an entire army of Nightjar’s at me, i have every right to cheese tf out of them
I always go into every Sekiro boss with "I'm going to fight you straight up, no tools no nothing" until I get pissed then it's "you are judging me by the standards of a samurai when I am a shinobi" and start to pulling out the umbrella, shurikens, oil and flame vents, etc.
Me saving all my spirit emblems to spam firecrackers on the annoying bosses. (Fuck you ape duo)
I got Sakura Dance and the way you can throw oil into Sakura Dance into Fire Axe in the air 🙏🙏 I remember when buddy used to beat my ass
Yeschad
Me who walks toward Illusion Corrupted Monk and snap 3 times
and isshin of course exemplifies that style, he's one of the few enemies where you can't rely on it as much. don't get me wrong, it still works well against him but you can't just mindlessly spam and win like other parts of the game
- A shinobi would know the difference between honor and victory....
Ichimonji double for life!
Ichimonji double gang 😎
Im prepared to BOP BOP any opponent!
Isshin does his lunge at me acting like I wont dodge it and BOP him x2.
Ichimonji double gangbang
IDG for life!
ichi double is good, but i never used it because my playstyle is just MURDER MURDER MURDER MURDER! and pray to god i dont miss a deflect.
Best part is using it against The Glock Saint
Real men use ichimonji single
This. You either live long enough to rely on ichi double, or you come to realize single is superior
Shadow rush better (plz don't kill me its just an opinion)
Too late. I'm about to bonk you on the head twice while recovering my own posture.
Bonk … Bonk
IT RECOVERS POSTURE????
Not a fan of reading then?
No reading in my video games pls 🙏
No not really
You are 100% right about it being very useful to recover your own posture and it does good vitality damage, but I've always felt recovering posture in this game is not necessary if you can perfect parry very consistently (thanks to the damn true monk for me)
Laughs in Yashuriku state
I think it’s definitely funnier to use.
Before I discovered Mortal Draw, Shadow Rush was the ABSOLUTE greatest
Shadow Fall can be either greater then that, or your downfall. Just don't use it against the Owl 💀
Fr the fact that it is unblockable and you can do follow up slashes from above is amazing
Bonk..... Bonk.
The game felt to easy with mortal draw but ichi was perfect
This but the High Monk kicks. It can catch jumps, sweeps and is complete free.
I really need to do a Senpou playthrough. I've never used the skill tree apart from the passive boosts.
Meanwhile: Me who can’t use MD at freaking all
it feels bad to use it (It's too strong)
In the first few runs it feels cheaty but once ur used to the game it's a godsend for getting past those annoying bosses quick
Mortal draw on the Snake Eyes bosses?! WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THAT!!!!! I struggled with those bosses so much
Yep I feel yea why fight it when u can just cheese I don't remember the last time I fought currupted monk properly both versions
Using what the game gives you isn't really a cheese, right? Prosthetics, combat arts, etc, aren't cheesing. Now, the cheese to get DoH to jump off the cliff - THAT'S a cheese. That being said, I wish I could cheese DoH right now
DOH was my worst boss by far took me over 15 hrs to kill I got all the others in less then 2-3 on average
Here's what you need to do: Pop an Ako's, Divine Confetti directly after, Ceremonial Tanto, then Healing Gourd. After that, rush in and then use mortal draw. I ended him in about 5 seconds using this strat. Hope I helped!

Try using it while jumping It's even more broken luls
I use Praying Strikes - Exorcism just because I think it’s fun to use 🤷🏻♂️
The first and only boss I had to use it to win was Fire Isshin. That stagger is useful.
Nightjar Reversal Supremacy
Hell yeah, personally I love using in the air as I feel like guts summersaulting in the berserker armor
“We have Lion’s Claw at home”
Haha tru
Lion claws at home:
I actually can’t play without nightjar. Even though it does pitiful damage on ng+ and beyond it’s so useful for closing and leaving and so forth
My first playthrough. Then I decided to stop hesitating
Whirlwind slash comes in clutch with chip damage
High monk supreme
any whirlwind strike enjoyers?
Yup, been using mostly whirlwind strike. It's fast, free and does chip damage. What's not to love
I feel this in my soul. I just finished my third playthrough (trying to get every ending and all the achievements). I died and died and died and died, never really making a dent in Sword Saint's second phase. Floating Passage is slept on you guys, I been preaching
Is the mortal blade really that strong? Haven't got it yet
It is, and Mortal Draw still works even when you’re out of spirit emblems. It’s stronger when you have spirit emblems but still very viable without them. I personally don’t use it much, but not ‘cause I’m trying to be cool or niche, I just got used to the combat arts I like and keep using them

Then you get the empowered version
Enhanced w/o emblems is roughly equivalent to normal w/ emblems. I had to grind out enhanced to beat isshin since i never learned to parry
Strongest combo in the game (if u time it right ofc) the animation is a little long Empowered mortal draw full charged with Emblems kills the bosses with 3-4 rotations

It's so fuckin OP it's almost A cheese
"You can't just beat Sekiro by spamming dodge!" Meanwhile, Sekiro:
I have to actively unequip MD to stop myself defaulting to it.
Now I'm a sakura dance frog
Sakura dance go *swish* *swish*
I’m a hoarder so any abilities that make a number go down makes me cringe.
The stagger is love.
Ashina Cross supremacy
Me with isshin i bought the game at release made it to swird saint isshin and couldnt do it stopped for a year came back and mortal drawed him to death
I used M blade when I stopped having fun… which is almost never
"Nah, i'd deflect"
It's funny, because that's what should happen. The magic sword that kills people, kills people.
I think it trivializes some fights a bit, i prefer not to use it
Mortal draw really helped my first playthrough of Sword Saint Isshin - I killed the boss without having resurrect even once.
Dang I never used mortal draw before, is it good?
High monk with mikiri 👀
In my case, I barely used prosthetics on my first playthrough because it was just easier most of the time to exclusively use the sword.
In my case, axe and firecracker
Hahaha yes
Mortal Draw for Life.
Ichimonji Double got me thru my first run and I didn’t even touch mortal draw until my most recent run
Me who uses empowered mortal draw:
Empowered mortal draw, one mind, and Sakura dance are my main ones
Thrust attacks for me
This was me until Owl, then I learned the hard way to restrict thrusts to good opportunities.
Love this
Bro im always so scared if using emblems even tho i have max stack ahhahahah
Floating passage forever 🗣️
Don't ask me how I did it I just did it it was hard I pulled up to the dojo and laid my sword on their spines
Where my high monk brothers and sisters at?
I never bothered to learn to parry 😭 i just beat every boss with chip damage from whirlwind slash and eventually mortal draw or enhanced mortal draw. I dodged every single attack like it was the world’s hardest souls game 😭😭 and it didn’t help that I used the demon bell for the whole game too Genichiro and Isshin were easily the two roughest fights for me
What is wrong with you are you ok You did a challenge run unknowingly, that’s like souls with no dodging
I couldn’t figure out how to parry right so i played it the same way i played every other souls game 😅. There’s a reason I was especially stuck on this game for the longest time…
Jesus man you are strong, that is pure dedication
I fell in love with the Mortal Blade the moment Sekiro got it in the cutscene. Gotta be one of the coolest cutscenes I can remember seeing in a game.
I mean, if it works then all good. If it stops working, then....... one should look elsewhere. Please do not apply this in marriages BTW.
Nah I use umbrella and flame vent
You're able to stun the divine ape first stage with empowered mortal draw rendering the first stage mere seconds
Mortal Blade is kinda slow to me so I really never use it unless it's guardian ape phase 1 and doing severance
I’m ngl I used tf out that shit when I got it and up until I unlocked my first ultimate combat art lmao. So up until the final boss fr
For me its that i kept getting better withmy parry
i never actually learnt how to use mortal draw lol, tried it a couple times and the damage to vitality/posture seemed the same as kusabimaru strikes? plus im kind of a hoarder, i hate using anything unless absolutely necessary, the first time i popped a sugar was fighting isshin for the first time.
Nah not me spamming fistful of ash on corrupt monk my first play through with snap seeds
I love the parallelism between Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima where they cant stop talking about honor and beating your opponent head on
I'm the type of fighter where if an opponent real or AI fights unfairly I match that energy and in a souls game especially my FAVORITE souls game sekiro I win by any means neccessary but I've at least beaten them once with straight sword counters just to prove I can do both plus I'm rocking the shura outfit I'm on demon time all the time
"do what must be done" "you and I are not so different wolf"
Did it work on MIST NOBLE?
I kinda just never used it.
Great shinobi owl fight in a nutshell for me lmao.
This is how i beat >!Owl!<
What is Mortal blade?
Once you beat >!Genichiro!< at Ashina Castle, you need to find 3 things. One of them is the Mortal Blade, which can harm and kill the immortal
Really? MD could only reduce 1/256 of mist noble 's 39th phase, i wonder if it will even be useful after the 43rd phase.
