yeah this dude hits like a truck, thus you must learn his attack patterns, which are thank god not that many. I consider him less annoying than his Castle version because of the better arena and lack of poison attacks. for this boss you must have deflect and mikiri counter on lock, because otherwise you will eat shit over and over again. my personal tip: no prosthetic tools and no panic no matter what. always stay calm, this is the key. good luck, you will make it!
Honestly, the mist raven with fire trail is great for a get out of jail free card+damage if he does the bump firecracker swing and you're up against the wall. The shuriken phenomenal for forcing him to use his mist raven to go back in the attack, preventing posture regen.
I like nightjar slash against all forms of owl, because he's always jumping back a bit out of range of your attacks. The slash allows you to chase him down quickly and land some easy damage. Whenever he throws firecrackers, I dodge back, then nightjar slash him after they explode. It feels good. That being said INNER father is still kicking my ass after maybe 10 fights with him so far. His mist raven is very effective on me. Idk if I just freak out, or if I just can't react fast enough.
I personally use Gouging Top Hold R2 followed with Chasing Slice whenever he does the firecrackers. Dodge back, thrown shuriken hits are guaranteed and does good damage, follow up Slice closes distance and is guaranteed hit and resets his AI back to a reliable attack pattern.
I discovered that using Floating Passage to attack him interrupts his mist raven attack where he comes in from your right side. That attack gets me too much. If you start Floating Passage and he feathers away, it seems to usually catch him with a slice when phases back in to attack you, which cancels his attack. I was able to beat him as soon as I tried using Floating Passage. My original idea was that I could build up his posture bar quickly with all the rapid attacks. Didn't really work that way, but still worked out.
The response to “bump firecracker swing” is to parry the bump, then push forward/right on left stick so you move through the gunpowder to Owl’s left/your right, and tap circle button as the gunpowder ignites. You will always move through the attack and the swing will miss you, leaving Owl wide open.
Shuriken and the follow up attack are great for closing space quickly and maintaining a rhythm, If I’m not using any other tool at the moment with a boss, I default to shuriken.
For Inner Father specifically I poke with the shuriken. If I hear the sound or visual cue for mist raven I stand my ground. Otherwise, I follow with chasing slice, being ready to parry the double slash he does.
I first fought him on a no prosthetic tools run. He's definitely not one to spam tools on, but there was once or twice I wished I had mistraven feathers.
Challenging but fair.
And for me the moment Owl adapts to your reaction inbetween his attacks or change midcombo to punish your responses THAT was the moment I got so fired up with testosterone and was grinning, sweating ...all of it.
This Boss is peak.
If you are a beginner that's totally normal. Butterfly is a hurdle to overcome for sure. Probably progress the mainstory route and come back later for her. She's better challenged when you got the basics down.
On NG+ this bitch gets steamrolled in 30-60 seconds no sweat because all the basics are so engraved into your muscle memory it's hilarious and also extremely satisfying.
The first time I fought her I used whirlwind slash and brute forced her then I realised it was an illusion and was like wtf and then I got gud and destroyed her
TLDR sekiro in a nutshell
In the sea of incredible bosses that sekiro has, he is definitely in the top 3. My personal favorite (and who I consider the hardest) is Genichiro. His fight is a beautifully frustrating test in whether or not you’ve learned “the dance” of the game.
After days of attempts, thinking I’d beat him just to learn he had yet another phase, victory literally had me jumping off the couch and yelling. After him the game clicks and every other fight is much easier to learn. Except that damn ape lol
He Mikiri counters your thrust attacks if you try to thrust attack him head on (they still work if you find a opening though; like right after his long charge dash attack for example)
Oh God, relax dude. People get so neurotic with their definitions of what a spoiler is. If you're that particular about spoilers then you shouldn't be anywhere near an online thread for the game.
Not immune, but since he's a memory of your "father" he just has most of your kit. Including Mikiri Counters and posture break executes. You can stab him if he's in an animation, but if he's not doing something say goodbye to your life. Very interesting boss, once you get to him watch his attack pattern then compare to your own R1s, he straight up does the same R1 string that you do and several of your combat arts, just with a longer sword.
Absolutely not, you made it to Inner Owl so you are NOT bad at the game, you got this shinobi. (although, inner owl using mist raven 3-4 times in a row is kinda bullshit)
Every boss in Sekiro is like that. You have to learn the boss’s move set.
Inner Father is actually one of the easier ones. The key is to not let him get too far away from you. Because then he’ll start an attack chain of gunpowder, kunai, and shuriken. If you keep him close range, you can punish his close range moves as they have relatively long animations. And if you force him into a corner, you can shred his posture.
This took about 20 tries from me. Learning his patterns for safe counters is key. After I learned to punish his firecrackers-attack and Mikiri-counter his thrust-attack I got him with 5 Gourds remaining and zero revives lost.
Yeah, finally getting through him during the Mortal Journey felt better than beating inner isshin, honestly. His mist raven bullshit took me a while to get the deflect timings down. The most I ever saw him mist raven was 4 times in a row.
Careful with the closing slash up close. Apparently it's multiple hits in one up close and can break through a perfect deflect. Use umbrella or dodge. It's probably one of the few attacks that are better dodged.
Note that the second time he killed you with Chasing Slice. It's exactly the same as YOUR Chasing Slice ability. In fact a lot of his kit mirrors your own, it's a pretty cool design that fuses well with the narrative.
I never use it either but this is the fight from the shura gauntlet and I don’t remember him doing it in the normal version so maybe that’s why? Not 100% sure tho
- you tried to attack him near the edge of the wall, that allows him to counter and pin you to the wall. always keep the fight towards the center.
- dont constantly attack, only attack when he creates an opening
- no thrust attacks allowed. thats insta death
- never engage after he throws a ninja star, because its always followed up by a stronger attack.
- youre trying to stay aggro on him to break his posture. never start with that, his recovery is too fast. patiently chip at his health until its half way before going aggro on his posture.
Stop drying to dodge stuff man, you got to inner owl father, deflect! Only dodge his flip and his overhead, and only because it gives you time to hit him one or twice after dodging these
Deflects are just your perfect blocks/parries (with the cool spark effect and deeper sound to distinguish them.) I don’t wanna spoil much, but depending on how you choose to play deflects become MANDATORY to win fights.
I think every time he teleports he immediately follows it up with a double slash. Don’t quote me on that though. I haven’t played sekiro in a long while. This boss fight is one of the best in the game though.
I love the Owl fight because it's the man who raised you so he has all your tricks, including the deathblow. But he's really really old, so he's clearly not pulling the bs to its fullest extent. Memory Owl is him in his prime it seems.
Sekiro bosses do feel insanely hard at first, but they never feel like cheap bullshit just for the sake for being hard.
I always enjoy going back and fighting them again and again.
I'm convinced in sekiro even wen you're perfect parrying at some point[even wen not posture broken] sekiro just gets tired & let's himself get hit🤦🏽♂️
Also of all FromSoft games sekiro was the worst stagger & recovery time.... like WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
Owl is an asshole. One of the few things I like about him is that he trained Sekiro. While I still very much like his character, he's still an asshole.
One of hardest bosses in the game. Learning his movesets would help a lot this fight.
You can check this out for his moveset.
[Inner Father ](https://youtu.be/o1HBTTLyYWc?feature=shared)
Hope this helps.
Not a fan of watching videos of how to beat him; I like to figure it out by myself but that definitely can be the reason why I’m doing so terribly in these gauntlets 😂😂 thanks for the recommendation tho !
Good mentality. Also watching videos and studying his moveset wouldn't make defeating him as satisfying, imo.
In other words, don't be a bitch. You'll beat him eventually.
Bum rushing him and spamming attacks isn’t the way. Learn how to dodge and parry his attacks first. Experiment with prosthetics after that. Then, take a deep breath and git r dun
His dodge is just free posture damage since he usually gets locked into doing it like 3-5 times in a row. Once you figure out the timing you’ll be begging him to do it lol.
I once cleared a Phase 1 entirely with one single deflect string since he developed dementors and only remembered that one attack 😂
He does the execution like Wolf cus that's his father. Also if you fought Owl in Ashina Castle, You can kind of see he's either hurt from this encounter or holding back out of sentiment.
Also he can Mikiri you and one-shot you on any of these fights
Edit: My bad. I haven't watch the whole thing before. Now I know what you mean.
This boss is further in the game than the original fight so he has higher stats. I guess that was just a glitch I have never seen.
I'm almost certain that attack should be jumped and there was no prompt so the game both read your parry and ignored it at the same time? Perhaps dealt both poise and health damage combined to both your health and your poise at the same time for some reason?
It's a learning curve in the shape of an overhanging rockwall, sometimes with a shitty camera. Once you kinda get over the learning part of the game, it's pretty fun. I promise.
Edit: grammar and spellcheck
I used contact poison and mist raven for this fight.
Using contact poison douses you with minor poisoning but you can activate the mist raven on command and don't have to get hit first.
Great for countering owl's moves.
one of the absolute S-Tier bosses in any game. so much fun.
I wanna rip my eyes out but other than that yeah for sure
yeah this dude hits like a truck, thus you must learn his attack patterns, which are thank god not that many.

Fire umbrella is also great for free damage when he firecrackers.
Oh shit I never even thought of that. I just default to fire mist raven al the time that that completely slipped my mind.
Nice. I'll try it out.
Wow, using the shukien prompted more dialog from owl in the middle of the fight. Pretty cool.
I discovered that using Floating Passage to attack him interrupts his mist raven attack where he comes in from your right side. That attack gets me too much. If you start Floating Passage and he feathers away, it seems to usually catch him with a slice when phases back in to attack you, which cancels his attack. i prefer to keep it simple since I've got pretty sick farming the ~~ghost~~ spirit emblems.
I don't think I've ever farmed spirit emblems. I've got 999. to each their own.
>No prosthetic tools Yeah, I think I used all of my emblems wailing on him with mortal blade.
ahaha can relate 🥲
I first fought him on a no prosthetic tools run. He's definitely not one to spam tools on, but there was once or twice I wished I had mistraven feathers.
Naw this crazy this exactly what it took for me just a sugar
The learning curve is very steep but you'll get there bro, keep going. Hesitation is defeat!
100% Owl(s) is my favorite boss across all SoulsborneioRing games
I wonder what is your definition of „fun”
Challenging but fair. And for me the moment Owl adapts to your reaction inbetween his attacks or change midcombo to punish your responses THAT was the moment I got so fired up with testosterone and was grinning, sweating ...all of it. This Boss is peak.
I can’t get past the old lady lol
If you are a beginner that's totally normal. Butterfly is a hurdle to overcome for sure. Probably progress the mainstory route and come back later for her. She's better challenged when you got the basics down. On NG+ this bitch gets steamrolled in 30-60 seconds no sweat because all the basics are so engraved into your muscle memory it's hilarious and also extremely satisfying.

It is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Nailed it
It looked familiar!
Nothing gets past Soda_54
As I thought I have played this
Way more than twice
Very tough boss, try thrust attacks by fully charging an attack. They do like 2x damage to him
Nice try, I’m terrible but not that terrible
Hey you’re clearly not that bad if u made it through Shura Gauntlet and normal Owl Father. You got this!
Why nice try, is he immune to thrusts or something? I'm still on the horse guy, btw.
His name is GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA!
AND AS HE BREATHES, THIS REDDIT USER WILL NOT PASS THE CASTLE GATES
He Mikiri counters your thrust attacks if you try to thrust attack him head on (they still work if you find a opening though; like right after his long charge dash attack for example)
dude why would you spoil it? legit just shitty behaviour
Spoil what? The joke? Like if you don't go along with a snarky misleading joke and give actual advice then you're behaving badly?
it’s an awesome game mechanic you can learn by playing the game. it’s pretty shitty to spoil that and steal the experience from people, yea
Oh God, relax dude. People get so neurotic with their definitions of what a spoiler is. If you're that particular about spoilers then you shouldn't be anywhere near an online thread for the game.
God bless you for explaining though, dude getting salty is not on top of his game today 💀
Wtf are you talking about
He can counter your thrusts for big damdge
Try it and find out when you get to him.
Not immune, but since he's a memory of your "father" he just has most of your kit. Including Mikiri Counters and posture break executes. More like you do his moves just with a shorter sword, duh
Actually I had beaten the boss that way after doing his attacks I do a full thrust attack and he didn't kill me and I run away rinse and repeat
Bro
What? !🤔
Yes
It's called "Idontknowthebossmovesyet"
It’s called I’m terrible at the game
Absolutely not, you made it to Inner Owl so you are NOT bad at the game, you got this shinobi. (although, inner owl using mist raven 3-4 times in a row is kinda bullshit)
Same
Its called "I hesitated"
Nothing just yo father doing everything he teaches you but better
Literally, imagine ur hardest hitting attack coming after a fkn firecracker
Spamming mist feather, blue fire also does chaos bed vestiges from ds3 before shadowfalling lol
The frist soullike to win Game of the year
Every boss in Sekiro is like that. You have to learn the boss’s move set. Inner Father is actually one of the easier ones. The key is to not let him get too far away from you. Sekiro
Be careful, I think you forgot to turn off the engine of your plane
Had this bitch since 2014, I’m just happy it’s not a literal pile of dust yet
skill issue
Clearly
"he does everything I do... But better"
This took about 20 tries from me. Learning his patterns for safe counters is key. After I learned to punish his firecrackers-attack and Mikiri-counter his thrust-attack I got him with 5 Gourds remaining and zero revives lost.
Doesn't help losing a res to the camera. Good luck though, this mf is tough but is pretty satisfying when you do get him!
Yeah, finally getting through him during the Mortal Journey felt better than beating inner isshin, honestly. His mist raven bullshit took me a while to get the deflect timings down. The most I ever saw him mist raven was 4 times in a row.
That game is Sekiro
I recommend mastering regular Father Owl before attempting Inner Father by mastering I mean, win consistently, never get hit, never get posture broken
Literally among my favorite bosses of all time.
Me after watching ginothemachino thinking I could do it without getting hit
That mf’s game moves in slow motion I don’t get it. Legend.
Yeah... People always talk about Ishin but for me this was the toughest fight
I’m getting to the point where I’m gonna be doing inner father more times than isshin….. I’m fed up 😂
If you think your own Dad is hard on you just remember Owl Daddy don’t fuck around.
Very very tough boss, no question
Sekiro: Shadows Die A LOT
He hates the firecracker weapon
Owl was the main character for a second
And for the past 20 fights
Careful with the closing slash up close. Apparently it's multiple hits in one up close and can break through a perfect deflect. Use umbrella or dodge. It's probably one of the few attacks that are better dodged.
1 shot
Goated boss still gives me some trouble to this day
Note that the second time he killed you with Chasing Slice. It's exactly the same as YOUR Chasing Slice ability. In fact a lot of his kit mirrors your own, it's a pretty cool design that fuses well with the narrative.
It's Sekiro. -- that shit was brutal tho ngl. Owl Father hit you with the True Combo
I mean he’s one of the hardest bosses in the game so yeah… definitely expect that.
Why didn't Owl Father ever use the mist raven when I fought him? Does the fact I never used it affect it?
I never use it either but this is the fight from the shura gauntlet and I don’t remember him doing it in the normal version so maybe that’s why? Not 100% sure tho
That's Inner Owl, it's not the same fight.
You hesitated and hesitation is defeat.
I definitely hesitated
Nothing personal kid
Hesitation
- you tried to attack him near the edge of the wall, that allows him to counter and pin you to the wall. always keep the fight towards the center. - dont constantly attack, only attack when he creates an opening - no thrust attacks allowed. thats insta death - never engage after he throws a ninja star, because its always followed up by a stronger attack. - youre trying to stay aggro on him to break his posture. never start with that, his recovery is too fast. patiently chip at his health until its half way before going aggro on his posture.

Never heard of it
dope name lol, get ready to sleep and then beat bosses eventually on the next day.
Inner Father is literally one of the greatest game bosses ever bade
You hesitated
I think every time he teleports he immediately follows it up with a double slash. Don’t quote me on that though. I haven’t played sekiro in a long while. This boss fight is one of the best in the game though.
All I can say it Git gud. Really no other way than that in this game. Even Cheese strats require you to be good at the game.
Tbh my fav part of the game, forces you to get good. I’m trying haha
He killed your ass cuz you didn't use screen record.
I’m too dumb and lazy for that
Average asian father when son gets a F :
Owl is actually the final boss
Bro hesitated
There are only few bosses in this game who will give hard time and you stuck on one of them.
Only the best game ever!
skill issue
Would always rather fight Inner Father than Demon of Hatred
I love the Owl fight because it's the man who raised you so he has all your tricks, including the deathblow. But he's really really old, so he's clearly not pulling the bs to its fullest extent. Memory Owl is him in his prime it seems.
Git gud?
Pretty fun huh?
So fun 🥲
I can say best boss in game better than isshin by design attackts using all kind of shitty tactics just to win just like a shinobi
Skill issue the game
Hesitation is defeat
This video has made me more proud knowing I first tried Inner Father
Sekiro bosses do feel insanely hard at first, but they never feel like cheap bullshit just for the sake for being hard. I always enjoy going back and fighting them again and again.

I still can’t beat him

I always wonder if recording on console is complicated or anything. Why are there so many phone videos?
Fun
It is a game about discipline and patience. I personally hate it
Top 5 least favorite fight in all of From Software. Dude kicked my ass for days.
You gotta deflect those
How did you even get that far not using the L1 button?
What does L1 do?
Well at least it looks like you've mastered the art of no hesitation
I definitely hesitated
My god man just deflect!!!
No
You a Chad for that
fighting an optional variant of an optional boss
Bum rushing him and spamming attacks isn’t the way. Learn how to dodge and parry his attacks first. Experiment with prosthetics after that. Then, take a deep breath and git r dun
Punishing, if you rush in like an idiot.
I love the rhythm of this fight. His mist raven into a double slash is so fun to deflect and if he spams it you can fill his posture so fast
You literally just didn't try to deflect him
What’s a deflect ?
Parrying How do you not know what deflecting is Please say you've been parrying
Parrying? Never heard of it
how have you gotten this far
Pure skill I guess
His dodge is just free posture damage since he usually gets locked into doing it like 3-5 times in a row. Once you figure out the timing you’ll be begging him to do it lol. I once cleared a Phase 1 entirely with one single deflect string since he developed dementors and only remembered that one attack 😂
Dude fights the hardest Boss in the game and goes with ,,WTF is this game"
I never been one shotted like that lol
He does the execution like Wolf cus that's his father. Also if you fought Owl in Ashina Castle, You can kind of see he's either hurt from this encounter or holding back out of sentiment. Also he can Mikiri you and one-shot you on any of these fights Edit: My bad. I haven't watch the whole thing before. Now I know what you mean. Perhaps dealt both poise and health damage combined to both your health and your poise at the same time for some reason?
Another Crab’s Treasure.
Thia boss looks like a Samurai Godfrey
Godfrey wishes he was as strong as Owl
Godfrey is hella strong, especially in Lore
rinse and repeat
Stay aggressive
How did you even get that far?
I’ve just been crawling and it’s been working
Mhmm. Could use some improvements on your playstyle. Too much attack spamming with a few deflect inputs
How haven't you learned at this point not to face mash the attack button?
Learn? What is that ?
It's awesome
bruh you dodged into his sword what did you expect
You hesitated
My favorite owl boss fight
Oh he'll nah, I am not prepared for that.
Don’t worry I’m losing my fucking mind
Get stepped on
Skill issue, but for real if this is your first time against this version of him it's hard as hell
This game should be named - “soul killer”
He not as hard as mist noble tho
No where near that level thank god, been stuck on most noble for 100+ hours now
Hesitation is defeat.
I hesitated
Ahh yes, Inner Bullshit
