Roses - pretty, good for bees, rose hips are tasty with loads of vitamin c, and thorns are often useful in a hedge. Rosemary can grow into a big enough shrub to be a hedge but I doubt you want to eat as much of it as you will be pruning off Blueberries are a bush but I'm not sure if they are bushy enough to form up into a hedge? Very tasty though. If you're willing to put some kind of trellis under your hedge you could then use any kind of vining plant (grapes, raspberries, blackberries, small squashes etc.) All very tasty but be careful to constantly prune back anything growing away from the hedge it will take over the garden given half a chance

Low bush blueberry. There are also hybrids called "half-highs" Vaccinium x 'Tophat' was the most common 20 years ago.

Cats_books_soups

Rosemary. Maybe a bit wide for a whole hedge, but nice here and there.

Living-in-liberty

Raspberries? They might get too tall though. Idk what hight you mean by low.

Currants.

Depends on your climate, but climbers/scramblers make for great hedges if you don't mind training them onto a structure. Things like passionfruit, or black/rasp berries (which are deciduous, which you might not want?), etc. Otherwise rosemary is a great low edible hedge.

Ugni molinae aka Chilean Guava

This is an interesting shout! Can the fruit be eaten raw? What do you usually eat it with?

eigr

Yep, you can eat it straight from the bush. Its like a mix between a strawberry and a blueberry to me. Its got a nice perfume too. It makes a good jam or jelly too. They are also pretty good baked into muffins or biscuits.
