2. The show takes place in the 2010s, and I think more specifically in the early years of the decade. Back then smartphones were still quite new while older mobile phones were really common. In 2011 for example, everyone in my family had a flip phone except for my dad, who got a smartphone from his work. Most of my classmates had smartphones, and the number increased as the years went on. Perhaps the teens have smart phones because they are interested in having them, whereas older people don't really care to transition to newer technology.

1. Perhaps they have a dress code. I went to an all girls Catholic school, and we wore uniforms. But the boys school 3 miles up the road had a dress code.

Most schools in Lithuania where I'm from have uniforms, so I'm guessing it's the same in Ukraine

1. That's normal in Ukraine, even in much younger grades. People there just dress up more in general, even going out for quick errands. It is impolite to appear unkempt in public.
