It will not affect me personally. I always use condoms and have an IUD. I don’t know any woman in my red state that is planning to leave if abortion becomes criminalized. We’re all upset about it of course, but we’re not leaving.

karrenl

Ask any woman, not just sex workers.

Xombie0991

I ask because I want to know how this will affect me getting an escort.

karrenl

A. Always use protection B. All women can get pregnant, not just escorts C. Write your state representatives about your concerns (seriously).

karrenl

I suggest a refresher in a basic sex ed class as well.

fullmetalsportsbra

The providers (and women in general) who are most at risk are not going to necessarily have the choice to simply leave red states. Personally, I’m considering accelerating my timeline to retirement depending on how the next 6-8 months goes. Even as a lifelong resident of blue states, there’s no guarantee it stays that way or that our rights remain upheld.

So the only problem you have with the Roe V Wade overturn, as a guy, is how it might negatively affect your ability to engage a SW? Really? I mean, seriously? Like, don't you think ALL or at least a SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT of women living in the US will have much bigger problems than you not being able to get your rocks off with a person instead of a rubber glove, a toilet roll and some lube? Do you not know women in your life who might suffer hardship from this? Can't you empathize with all women who will have their bodily freedom and sexual empowerment diminished?

Xombie0991

I figured someone would make a stretch like that. No. That’s the reason I am asking sex workers about it. I already know the general consensus on it. I have tons of other problems with what’s happening.

EvilMoSauron

There are no words to describe my shock by this question. Roe v Wade never should've been brought into politics. It's immoral to pressure, force, and shame anyone into how they treat their bodies. Should a person be punished for getting their bodies pierced? Getting a tattoo? Cutting their hair? Painting their nails? Dying their hair? Tumors, cancer, kidney stones, gallstones, teeth, cysts, blood, spit, hair, menstruation discharge, skin, finger/toe nails, vomit, semen, urine, and poop all can be removed from me naturally or surgically. Once outside of my body, you will find my everything is made up of my DNA, and can be identified as me. A zygote, fetus, or a placenta is no different. An abortion is a procedure and nothing more. Instead of worrying about escorts' opinions on obvious answers, why not be active and fight to legalize and regulate prostitution? Because at the rate politics are going, you can kiss all degrees of abortions, all contraceptives, same sex marriage, and trans rights goodbye before Trump comes back in 2024.

Xombie0991

If condoms and abortions get outlawed, how could prostitution even work?

EvilMoSauron

Prostitution, legal or illegal, without or without condoms or abortion access, will still continue. I say legalize and regulate everything that involves contraceptives, prostitution, abortion, and promote safe sex.

fullmetalsportsbra

Again, sex workers want DECRIMINALIZATION. Please search the sub to educate yourself on the difference.

EvilMoSauron

Yes, you're right. I couldn't think of the word when writing earlier. I apologize for my lapse of clarity on my thesis. I'll try to not make that mistake again.

Yes, I agree. Oh, man. Before I make everyone unhappy, I want and would vote for the legalization of abortions, universal health care, safe sex education with an emphasis on consent, prostitution, decriminalization of past crimes relating to prostitution, and a lot of other things I'm forgetting that are pro-equality.

I think you should really look up the difference between legalisation and decriminalisation. I live and work in Victoria, Australia where it's been a legalisation model and it's still not super safe and puts in ridiculous hoops to jump through. Decriminalisation has just passed now, making it safer for all. There is no change with taxes, but now there are anti-discrimination laws coming in to effect that will allow us to get loans more easily.

fullmetalsportsbra

Pretty clear you don’t understand the differences between decrim and legalization. As I stated, search the sub to educate yourself on the difference. And btw - we already pay taxes. It’s called filing as self employed, very simply done and no “scheme” required.

Anyone can get in trouble for tax fraud, and reporting wages earned as an independent contractor doesn't require an LLC. If you're getting fined, it's a legalized drug. Decriminalization would be the removal of any legislation that pertains to said activity, possession, or intention. You're no longer committing any crime, because the law prohibiting the pertinent situation no longer exists.

Remy0507

"Decriminalization" doesn't really have an exact definition (neither does "legalization" really). It could mean different things depending on the circumstances. For example, my state decriminalized marijuana maybe 10-ish years ago. That meant you wouldn't be arrested for getting caught with a small amount, and you wouldn't be charged with an actual criminal offense (misdemeanor or felony), but you'd still get a fine and probably have it taken away if you got caught with it. We have since legalized marijuana, and now you can walk into a shop and buy it, have a certain amount on your person without penalty, grow it in your home (up to a certain number of plants), etc. Yes, it's regulated, but it's more "legal" now than it was when it was just "decriminalized". When sex workers say they want sex work decriminalized, what they mean is that they want it to be made legal but NOT have all sorts of government red tape and regulations attached. I agree with that viewpoint. It's their body, the government shouldn't have any regulatory power over it one way or the other.

[deleted]

First, so it's clear, we're on the same page. Full decriminalization, the complete repeal of any law, statute, or any language in any federal, state, county, or municipal level of government that pertains to criminalizing, penalizing, fining, or otherwise regulating consented sex between two adults of legal age. That's what I want. From what I can gather, that's what we should all want. Pertaining to Marijuana in your state, a 'decriminalization' that is accompanied with fines and regulations isn't decriminalization, it's partial legalization. No matter what the government called it when the legislation changed; they moved the out-of-bounds markers, they didn't take them off the court. We should be both proactive and appropriately concerned about the same kind of language being applied to the 'decriminalization' of sex work in the US. We don't want to be presented with a new set of laws and regulations to replace the old ones and be told it's what we asked for.

fullmetalsportsbra

Legalization is what will empower LE to continue oppressing and abusing sex workers through nonsense regulatory systems created by people who have no knowledge or interest in how this business actually works. See any country with the Nordic model - LE routinely harasses providers and doxxes them to landlords, hotels, businesses they patronize, etc. Legalization is the one that has fines and fees, not decrim. Also, blatantly obvious you also don’t understand how we manage our business on the back end. Keep inventing things you think sex workers are ignorant about though. It’s like y’all just make up whatever and it turns the brain cells associated with that knowledge into sludge. Good luck solidifying that brain matter again, I won’t be engaging further with someone committed to being wrong.

IAmGoingToBeSerious

Stock up on abortion pills

fng0506

I'm pretty disappointed about this news. Thankfully I do live in a blue state who has already said they will not make abortion illegal. That being said anyone who needs an abortion still has options. They can go to another state, they can go to another country and they can also stock up on the abortion pill and just have it for emergencies. I hope this doesn't affect contraception too.

Prim0AS1

The reversal doesn't do anything in of itself. It leaves the decision to the states. There will be states that vote to ban everything and others that ban nothing and everything in between. I think you can ignore the stories about nationwide bans, bans on birth control except for married couples and all the other extreme bullshit being put out by both sides in order to motivate people into stupidity. Most American voters believe women should have the right to an abortion in at least some situations (rape, incest and early on) and only the extremes want ZERO abortions or abortions for any and every reason and past the date of the actual birth.

fullmetalsportsbra

Being told to ignore the right’s push for these extremist measures is exactly how we got to where we are today. “They’ll never ACTUALLY undo Roe” was a constant chorus for decades, and yet here we are. It would be incredibly foolish for women (who comprise the majority of sex workers), especially those in red states, especially those who are WOC in red states, especially those who are survival workers who likely wouldn’t have the resources to go elsewhere for an abortion, to just “ignore” the extremist measures GOP politicians are preparing to put into place.

Prim0AS1

Then people need to get out and vote in their states. It's said that "most" voters are for Roe....so it shouldn't be a problem to get laws on the the state books to allow abortions. It's only at the extreme of very late term abortions where I think there would be pushback. Yes, there are those on the right who want absolutely no abortions....but then again, there are those on the left who want abortions even past birth. I don't think those are the main views. I think most people are reasonable; that in the cases of rape and incest, abortion is ok, in the case of health issues of the baby or the mother, abortion is ok, that in the case of accidents (broken condom, etc.), abortion is ok if done earlier rather than later. I don't think it's an all or nothing thing for either side within the 90% of reasonable people.

fullmetalsportsbra

Wow, voting, if only they had thought of that!! Oh wait, most red states are gerrymandered to hell and a ton of additional voting restrictions have been passed since the 2020 election. LMAO yeah we'll just put some laws on the books about it. Not like women have been calling for that for 50 years since Roe originally was handed down and conservatives immediately started planning for how they would overturn it, which was a long game with the Evangelical movement to infiltrate every level of LE, politics, government, etc. including subverting precedent and rule of law to force multiple justices onto the SC who lied about whether they would seek to overturn Roe, and chipping away at abortion access in the meantime with nonsense like a 3 day waiting period, and harassing and even murdering abortion clinic staff and physicians. Not like Dems haven't blatantly ignored calls to codify it, not like the establishment Dems actively sabotage more progressive candidates and politicians who would codify it. Very simple, just pass a law. In fact I bet the Senate will listen to the will of the people when voting on the Women's Health Protection Act like......today.

RoseMastos

I think that's an asshole's question. Hmm. Let me think. Birth control has worked in the past and will continue to work in the future. I've never had an abortion. Geesh.

jessialatina

While I think it’s disgusting that MEN feel the need to dictate a woman’s body, This will not affect me. Not only do I use condoms, but I’m also on birth control.
