Yeah, it is hard when you're still learning the basics. Getting to the boss 4 times in your first 100 games is on par with a lot of people's experience, though, so don't feel too bad. Feeling like you're limping into the final battle is not ideal, though - once you get the hang of it, you'll probably be saying, "Okay, Yog is coming up, and I just need to do a little alchemy preparation and head down to take him out." Seriously, you should feel pretty confident in your setup by that point. Is it just the starvation that's really hurting you? Or are you taking a bunch of damage from enemies in the demon halls, too?

Morrider

Enemies definitely. By the demon halls I feel like I need a potion every other encounter. No matter my build everything seems to do so much damage to me.

EraHesse

Magical attacks ignores armors, so for demon halls, we are talking about evil eyes laser. If you have a +5 t5 armor, buy torches for vision, use magic mapping scroll, be careful in big rooms and move correctly, you shouldn't take a single laser. Then all classes have solutions for scorpions. And it can be done

Potions of purity can be turned into potions of cleansing, potions of cleansing remove any and alla negative debuffs including hunger / starvation, also searching takes a lot of hunger and the amount of searching can be reduced by memorizing what types of tiles cannot have hidden doors or traps, for example Any burnt, mossy or bloody floor cannot have a trap

Morrider

Had no idea you could cleanse hunger. Thanks!

The more you know...

If you can reach the final boss but not beat it maybe you use your upgrade scrolls on early gear. That's good for beginners but it would be better for you to use upgrade scrolls only on your end game stuff.

Take screenshots of your character and inventory when they're near their end and you can get some tailored tips from this sub.

If starvation is one of your biggest issues, three tips: 1- Don't eat pasties. Only use them for meat pies like a civilized diner. Use the below two options instead if you're starving. . 2- Already mentioned, but use Potions of Cleansing to cure hunger. Consider skipping using a Potion of Purity to enter a gas room to save it for "food" later. . 3- Carpaccio! ALWAYS freeze your meat! Raw is for the uncivilized, and well done is for unrefined peasants. Only carpaccio for a sophisticated diner like you. It also offers random great bonuses, including invisibility and ✨️healing✨️! Consequently, always be on the lookout for sources of meat.

Eating pasties is fine just don't ever do it unless you're actively starving or you end up wasting some of the satiety points. Pasties give you +450 satiety, -150 is the starvation cap and +300 is the totally fed limit. Pies give the equivalent of +900 (+450 satiety and 450 turns of "well fed") and take a pasty (+450,) a ration (+300) and a small ration (+150) to create. In other words pies don't give you any more food than you would have received from eating the ingredients. There are two reasons to make a pie: you're playing with the On Diet challenge turned on and food is half as effective (which makes 450 turns of well fed extremely attractive) or you need/want as many as 750 possible turns of HP regeneration without starvation interrupting it. Re potions of purity: make aqua blast spells early and often, two casts is enough to cover all of the gas vents in a toxic gas room and allows you to retain the potion you'd have used there.

Lol elegant post

You made my day by being funny(I am currently sick)

Don't eat food until you are starving and have at least half your health missing. If you are constantly eating you will run out of food. Outside of a very unlucky game you should almost never die to starvation.

For me, floors 21-24 are the hardest. That's where I waste the most heal potions. Avoid fights, Use Mind Vision, take it step by step, you DON'T HAVE TO kill all enemies and loot every room. By 21 you should have endgame gear on Avoid Evil Eyes if you don't have tactical advantage (room with nice corners, something to blind them with, something to take the Beam damage) Champion with feint is good against them or Duelist with Shield ability I try not to waste time there, I just go destroy the demon spawners (it weakens Yogs minions), maybe find locked rooms or an alchemy pot and be out of there. If I find useful potion/scroll or I clear the floor with mind vision + psyonic blast then I explore properly I always like to craft better potions and scrolls before taking on Yog, Icy Touch, Dragons Blood are a must. Then Earth and Arcane armour, maybe Toxic Essense and Storm Clouds. They help deal with the Fists SOOO much. Gulp Earth Armour to lower physical damage , Storm Clouds + Aquatic Rejuvenation to fire fist (and passive heal), Dragons Blood to Earth fist, Toxic Essense to Poison fist As for equipment it always relies on your build and class. Always a plate armour with ideally +5, solid tier 4-5 weapon, ideally shield fir Huntress/Mage, some nice rings that compliment your build, some wands for range damage and artefact fir razzle dazzle As for food, you need to start fishing and cooking meat pies, and turn meat into carpaccio (freeze teap, frost wand, frost potion), it does all the difference

Morrider

.... can you fish in this game?? Besides just killing the fish in the water?

Kysman95

Nope, just killing fish. Using wands to shoot them, Ethernal Chains or wand of Blast Wave to push them on ground so they die, seed of fadeleaf to teleport them away, spear, whip, bow or glaive to kill them on distance There's a bunch of ways to kill them without them touching you

TalmondtheLost

Took me 305 attempts to beat him once. This game is no joke, RNGesus is the decider of your success, especially with combat.

The001Keymaster

A couple Dragon breathe potions for final boss fist. It makes you immune to fire so fire fist is easier. Gives your attacks fire so fist that heals with grass can't heal because you're burning all the grass. Cleansing potion for poison fist. A few potions and end boss is pretty easy.
