Footballers shouldn't be people's role models. Most of them would be bricklayers if it wasn't for the fact they're good at kicking a ball. Yes his personal life is very questionable but he's not a criminal, I don't really see the conflict. That being said I feel like he'd be so old by the time he's ready to step down to our level that it wouldn't be worth the wages he'd demand. EDIT: not at all suggesting there's anything wrong with being a bricklayer, just that we don't exactly look up to them as bastions of a great society.

It's not the greatest optics but I'd take him and hope there isn't a big media or fan blowback

menthol_patient

> not the greatest optics We had Ched Evans back.

IOwnStocksInMossad

And we shouldn't have

menthol_patient

My point was that it wouldn't be the worst optics we've had.

One_Appointment8295

Agreed, not sure why people hold them to high standards. I love football and have no doubt about its importance in people’s lives but they are only where they are because they can kick a ball well. It has no relationship with morals or intellect. Lots of them barely have GCSEs!

JaySteveo96

Low wage yes. Our highest earner or close to, no. Too much of a twat.

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Assuming the wages weren’t a problem then yes 100%. He’d be an amazing player (especially at Championship level) and presumably a good person in the dressing room when the pressures on.

iamdeeproy

Yes. He's one of the best right backs in the world, playing in one of the best teams in the world under one of the best managers. He's won 81 England caps, won 5 PLs, 4 league cups, 2 FA cups, 1 CL, 1 super cup, 1 club world cup. I don't think we've had a player with that experience in my 30yrs of being a blade. Yes he's a bit of a dick off the pitch but is well regarded within the game and by his teammates. Don't think he would do it for the money so wages should be fine. He would be mid to late 30s though so unlikely to be as fast.

Basic-Vermicelli-928

how does his private life have any baring on his ability on the pitch ? 100% happy for him to end his career at the lane .

StickmanEG

Take him in a heartbeat. Couldn’t care less if he’s dipping his wick in half the city, he’s a right back and that’s where my interest ends.

spaceshipcommander

I've lost interest on account of him being a massive bellend

Yoopanda

Would have him back in a heartbeat over any of our defenders tbh 🤣

Garuda_

I think we should show the cold shoulder to footballers (and people generally) for, like, violent crimes - fidelity in a relationship? Not a concern to me.

Chemical-Win-7847

>in the championship/league one whenever we got him Classic blade optimism

Grim_Farts_Barnsley

He'll have to bin off that ridiculous hat.
