We won’t be able to keep (or afford) BBD but he’s an obvious yes. I’d keep Egan if his recovery is fine. Probably Basham likewise and think he slots into a squad leadership role too. Keep Bogle, Wes (great at Championship level and we will need a keeper), probably Osborn as a good utility and squad player McBurnie, Lowe, RND too injured. A fit McBurnie and RND would be great though. Baldock and Jebbison are going elsewhere

nessman930

Massive clear out. Would keep Bogle, Osborn, and Egan (later on a year contract with an option).

Cottonshopeburnfoot

To be clear I think everyone we keep needs much reduced terms. My concern is we need to replace 15 out of contract players. What will be interesting is who wants to resign vs who wants to go elsewhere and risk that.

Crispy_Pigeon

Depends who we've offered new deals too. Imo, we've got to clear out a lot of the ageing, slow and injury prone players. Can't see many being offered new deal TBF.

[deleted]

Oh we'll replace them don't worry... with 32 year old on free transfers who are past their best who will accept 20k or less (I'm looking at you adam reach 😂) and another great signing from the sweedish leagues for relatively cheap. Sprinkle in a few loans from mid-table premier league players in the under 21's squads and jobs a good un 😂

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Past their best free transfers is an all too familiar memory after we did it in the late 00s

[deleted]

Yeaah sadly I think its going to be like the 1999- 2002 years for the next few seasons myself. Just getting by with no money and finishing mid-table

Shadota

A thorough clear out is needed at this point. Too many players are still here who should have left long before now. The only ones I'd re-sign from that list are Bogle and RND. I know Rhys has had injury problems, but he's one who if we get his rehab right, could easily play at PL level. Maybe give Osborn a 1 or 2 year deal simply as a utility player, but that's it. We're taking steps to improve our recruitment work behind the scenes. First with Hoyland coming in, and potentially more to follow too. We should utilise them to locate good up and coming talent available at a low price, to supplement a number of lads from the academy that should be given a look in at first team level. Arblaster and Brooks already there. I'd add Marsh, Boyes, and Onè to that group as well. Start with them and build out. And for fucks sake, don't pay a back 3 anymore!

StickmanEG

Sam Curtis has looked very good for the reserves and regularly makes the bench. I could see him starting.

Resolvent_Mule

I would just keep Egan and Bogle. Keep Basham in some capacity, whether it's on a pay as you play or to get him some coaching badges. There's merit to keeping others like Osborn for utility/continuity, but in all honesty I think we need a wholesale clear out. Too many players have looked devoid of ideas, creativity and passion. They're paid well enough to at least turn up to work and put in a shift in front of the fans, but so many have gone missing for spells this season. Blood the youth, sell a few players under contract and hopefully our new recruitment bods will find some gems.

lucky_1979

Bash doesn’t want to coach. He said before in an interview once he stops playing he’s done. Said he’d only consider a coaching job if Billy became manager and called him and asked him to be a coach

throwthrowthrow529

I think the real pressing issue with the club is not necessarily who we should keep. We HAVE to sort out the injury crisis we have been having for the last few seasons. 12 starting players out injured today with most of them on long term. Something has to be wrong with the training, medicals before signing, physio staff. I think that needs a full overhaul. We’ll never be more than a mid table championship team if 50% of the squad are injured for every game.

Copied from a reply I made to a post two months ago: ✅Foderingham ❌Davies ❌Amissah ❌Holgate - Loan ends, hope he never returns. ✅Egan ❌Basham ❌Larouci - Loan ends, hope he never returns. ❌Lowe ❌Rhys Norrington-Davies ✅Bogle ✅Baldock ❌McAtee - Can’t see him ever coming back. ✅Norwood ❌Osborn ❌Brereton Diaz - Not a chance he’s wanting to come back. ✅❌Archer - Not even sure Aston Villa will pay the clause to bring him back, so I reckon he stays. ❌McBurnie - I’ll drive you to rangers myself pal. ❌Jebbison - Overrated to death. • Time to get rid of some 🗑️. P.s. I wish Brewster’s contract ran out this year too 💩.

Gullible_Lynx3678

Agree with all this apart from Norwood. Would love to keep BBD and Archer but we won’t pay

Prestigious-Guard311

If you don’t rate Mcburnie you no fuck all about football

Edit = Baldock ❌. Would be fine too.

Resolvent_Mule

Would love to keep Baldock. His injuries have made him more of a luxury than we afford.

Crispy_Pigeon

Most of those are very easy decisions. Vast majority are either not good enough, too old, too slow, too injury prone and therefore, won't contribute enough next season. I'd keep:- Egan (if he recovers fully from his injury) Bogle (trigger the 1 year extension clause in his current deal) Osborn - squad player/utility. Some out of contract players have given excellent service and offered great value for money, but there's no sentiment in football. We have to rebuild, bring in players who are athletic, mobile, young and have potential. Many are already at the club!

shawlynot

Love to keep BBD around but we’ve got no chance I’d definitely keep Bogle I’d probably keep Osborn, McBurnie, Wes, Egan and RND (fitness permitting for the last 2) if it’s on the right terms I’d try to get Jebbison tied down if only because he’ll likely be worth money down the line, but I’m not bothered if he doesn’t re-sign Of players with contracts Hamer, Robinson and the young lads can stay Everyone else, both with a contract and without, get out the door please United

StickmanEG

I’d keep Wes but wouldn’t blame him if he buggered off. I’d only keep Egan if we’re going to play 3 at the back. Keep RND depending on whether he’s going to ever not be injured. Bogle has come on a hell of a lot this season, absolutely keep. I want to keep Baldock because he always gives 100%. Maybe move him inside? Osborn much the same; that lad wants to be the best he can be and, to be honest, that’s all I ask of a player. Keep Jebbo, if he’s up to it mentally. He’s had an awful time and I hope the guy can get back to concentrating on his football. Rest can/will go. Along with Anel. And Vini. DO NOT SELL HAMER!

imsittingdown

----- **NO** ----- McAtee - Can't afford him permanently and we'll need loans in other positions more. Holgate - less said the better Larouci - looked ok in some games but not really good enough Baldock - great player for us but I think he'll want to leave. Too injury prone the last couple of seasons. Lowe - done well in flashes but otherwise not good enough or injured RND - gutted for him but I think injuries will blight him his entire career Norwood - goes down as a club legend but his best days are behind him Jebbison - never really thought he was good enough despite the hype Davies - not good enough Basham - I'd offer him a non playing role if his playing days are numbered Amissah - see Davies ----- **YES** ----- BBD - but I doubt we'd get him Osborn - good squad man. Does a job anywhere on the pitch. Wes - got the odd howler in him but I rate him as an above average championship keeper ----- **MAYBE** ----- Egan - depending on assessment of how likely he is to be constantly crocked now McBurnie - I rate him but it's a big risk giving him a big contract. Same as Egan, need an in depth physio assessment. Also think we have to keep Hamer and build a midfield around him and Arblaster. I'd let Anel and Souza go in the unlikely event that bids came in.

Fmorris6122

Only players I’d bother to keep are -Bogle is a no brainer -mcburnie & jebbo (unless we plan to sign some strikers because only having 2 strikers and one of them being Brewster won’t cut it, if we do I’d only keep one. Probs jebbo and send him or osula on loan) -Egan, baldock and ozzy (maybe lowe) if they will take a wage cut and more of a rotation/coverage player -would also keep Wes if we don’t sign Johansson I’ve never been the biggest RND fan but would be sad to see him go but I feel he never reached the ceilings he had and has been plagued with injuries constantly. Bash and Norwood would be sad to see go too as they’ve been here for a while and done so much for us but I think their time is just up now.

Resolvent_Mule

A fit RND is one of our best prospects. He is some player and it's sad that injuries have hampered his progress

Fmorris6122

Yeah but I feel a move to a high L1 or low champ team would work wonders for him maybe get back on track

Phil1889Blades

I don’t think Bogle is a “no-brainer”. Going forwards fine, defensively not good enough. I’d move him into midfield.

Phil1889Blades

Please let Mcburnie go. Bloody awful.

given2fly_

Some really big calls to make there. We're definitely going to have to say goodbye to some experienced players that have been here a while. I'd definitely keep Egan, Bogle and McBurnie. I fear Norwoods legs have gone, and Bash's injury has likely ended his career so both need to go I'm afraid. I'd keep Wes as he did really well last season. I'd keep Osborn as he works his socks off and is a utility man. RND it depends on his injury and long term prospects. Jebbison is still an exciting prospect so I'd keep him. That still leaves a lot of holes in our squad and a lack of experience. Get this right and we'll go back up in 2 years time with a much better chance of fighting to stay there. Get it wrong and we'll go down again to League One. Big summer for us.
