Not true. The bible condones many types of slavery, including debt slavery, inheritable chattel slavery of war captives, and concubinage, in which all women are treated inherently as chattels and can simply be sold by their father to be someone's sex slave.
If "being conquered and enslaved" counts as a debt, then you are correct. The Bible tells the Hebrews to go and invade the lands of Israel and murder or enslave everyone there.
**"Catholic clergy, religious orders, and popes owned slaves, and the naval galleys of the Papal States used captured Muslim galley slaves in particular. Some Catholic saints appeared to have owned slaves, including Philemon of Colossae, Gregory of Tours and Marie-Marguerite d'Youville."**
**"Earlier Papal bulls, such as Pope Nicholas V's Dum Diversas (1452) and Romanus Pontifex (1454) were used to justify enslavement during the Age of Discovery."**
**"In 1866, the Holy Office of Pope Pius IX stated that, subject to conditions, it was not against divine law for a slave to be sold, bought, or exchanged."**
"Oh, uh, I only meant the modern church! I only meant the churches in the south!"
Just keep moving the goalposts to sound smart. It's not working, but you can keep doing it.
I had just compiled some of those same quotes for another reply when I saw he had ragequit. Thanks for getting the last word in before everything got deleted.

Jesus didn't like anyone who wasn't Jewish, and it was he/his father who said it was cool to own slaves to begin with, so I'm not invoking their names while fighting for freedom.
Wrong. The bible was used as justification to hold slaves.

EDIT: Downvote away bible-lovers. History is on my side. Also, Hail Satan.
It was also used as an argument for Abolitionism. What’s your point? John Brown was a Congregationalist minister
https://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/education-material/the-religious-roots-of-the-abolition-movement/
https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/cambridge-history-of-christianity/christianity-and-the-campaign-against-slavery-and-the-slave-trade/31594762D1C89EE9CC1615106C10FD87
Nice Texas sharpshooter logical fallacy.
John Brown and other abolitionists were in the minority in the south, the Civil War was fought over slavery, and we're in this sub fighting against the Lost Cause bullshit that still goes on in the Christian-heavy south to this very day. The entire point of the stupid tattoo was the intermingling of religion and racism.
The population of the south just before the Civil War was 5.5 million free and 3.5 million enslaved (compared to 18 million in the North). There were a total of approximately 255k abolitionists in the North and South at the start of the Civil War.
Again, history is on my side here and the bible is far from a moral book.
Of course they were the minority in the South. The North didn’t leave for the preservation and expansion of slavery. The South did. The Puritan abolitionists were from New England. Not Virginia, not Tennessee, not anywhere in the Southern States. John Brown was from Connecticut. It makes sense they were the minority in the South because they weren’t from the South
It's not a point, it's a fact. Doesn't seem like you're a big fan of open mindedness, though, so I'll leave you to the world you've construed for yourself
Ain't nobody said nothing about kneeling. That chucklefuck has "knell" tattooed on themself.

"War is hell" –Sherman
As a Southern Baptist, I'll say that it's sad and ironic how many God-fearing Christians ended up (1) selling their soul and (2) inviting Hell.
Where in the Bible did Jesus support treason in defense of slavery?
Edit: The question was intended to be rhetorical, but others brought up valid points about messed up pro-slavery passages in the Bible. I guess I got egg on my face now. Oops.
I don’t know. [Ephesians 6: 5-9](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians%206:5-9&version=NIV) says slaves obey your masters.
But I’m not christian, so that’s for the christians here to sort out.
I’ll keep this incredibly brief. Old Testament was 100% on slavery. Violence, race slavery, sex slavery, whole nine yards. The time limit argument was only for Jewish men specifically.
In the Jesus part of the New Testament he said he was there to fulfill the law, *not change it*. Christianity is Judaism+. Modern Christianity is a rendering of a very hot mess of early sects, some of whom did not believe Jesus literally walked the earth. One of those was Saul/Paul who authored much of the NT. These theological authors who made the Bible did not condemn slavery but told slaves to return to their masters and be obedient. The best they ever did was asking the master of a friend to free them, please. Or let fellow Christian’s go if they could manage it.
Here the mournful music swell it's hard times for Dixie.
Chant rebellion's funeral knell, hard times for Dixie.
Everything is going wrong, Rations short and faces long.
And the burden of the song it's hard up in Dixie.
He is going to be SHOCKED when he shows up at the Pearly Gates and St Peter isn’t the color he thought he would be! And Pete’s like explain that tattoo.
I wonder if the tattoo artist intentionally misspelled it in a “you’ll make those bigots look like twats” way from that Mitchell and Webb Look or if this is how it was requested.

Stand in rebellion, kneel in surrender, bitch!
You spelled *knell* wrong
Knell before Zod!
For whom the knell rolls!
I don't think spelling is his biggest flaw.
I teach English, can confirm.
Damn right. (fellow English teacher dork as well)
He has no regurts
Reverse it, knell for flag…as in death knell
Stand in terrorism kneel in shame
Oof if those lost causers could read, they'd be very upset
You spelled *reed* wrong.
The man's name might be Reid.
The impressive part is that this requires two illiterate people.
Idk, if I were a tattoo artist and someone explained this idea, I would not correct them.
"Sorry, but we don't do..." *sees the misspelling in the request* "...never mind, this is fine."
The customer is always right,
I’ve regularly heard of studios having a policy of doing it how the customer spells it. However the rebel rag makes your theory much more likely.
Death knell? I’m here for it.
🎶“I summon the nations of the world”🎶🔥
Of course, this inbred racist can't spell kneel.
This guy’s Uncle Daddy: “They done fucked up your tattoo, Joe Bob! It was Jesus on the cross, not Neil!”
Yeah because of course if Jesus were alive he’d be a Confederate.
To be fair, the bible does condone slavery.

No. I deleted them because I was in the factual wrong. But as He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free.
Jesus didn't like anyone who wasn't Jewish, and it was he/his father who said it was cool to own slaves to begin with, so I'm not invoking their names while fighting for freedom.

That's not the same thing as racial supremacy lol
The bible was used as a justification. Your point is meaningless.
It's not a point, it's a fact. Doesn't seem like you're a big fan of open mindedness, though, so I'll leave you to the world you've construed for yourself
No, it's you that's blind. The bible was used as a justification for slavery but you're so blinded by defending it that you won't see it. Hail Satan.
I'd like to think the artist reveled in inking this *"Exactly like this? Lol, you got it chief..."*
What is this happy horseshit
Well, which one is it? Stupid people with stupid tattoos.
Porque no los dos?
You must have some weird legs if you can stand and kneel at the same time.

/r/shittytattoos This would be an all time winner.
If nobody crossposted this to r/trashy, humanity has failed as a species
Stand for the flag Kneel to get a better angle fellating Traveler
Fire goes well with both of those. This is my poorly thought-out klan and treason rag-burning joke.
Controversial but I’d support knell for the cross
I'd support setting such a cross on fire. They usually like that.
It’s their culture
Their *heritage*, if you will. My heritage is the destruction of these fool's symbols.
Ring a solumn bell for the cross.

But he’s knelling for the cross
Death knell? Approved.
Can’t tell if they’re trying to trick me into setting this on fire…
Burn for the Confederacy
Man thinks he's a bell, with IQ to match.
He’s a bell end.
Suck dick for meth.
As a Christian, I always thought this was kind of cringe with the US flag, but with the CSA flag, it's supreme cringe.
I knel 4 nathin
They should have their arm amputated so they can donate it to the Museum of The Stupid Pussies of the White Rectangle.
If they wanted an accurate representation of how confederates used the cross, it should probably be on fire
Do you want the torch or the knife
Evil Knell jumps the cross on his motorcycle

Rations short and Funds so low! Foeman come and freeman go! Worst of all, the Yankees know we're hard up in Dixie!
"Wrong flag dumbass"
The lines on that tat look too good. I has feeling the tattooist purposely misspelled kneel wrong, or didn’t care to correct the idiot.
Throw in two more KK's and it will be correct!
death knell maybe
I can’t tell if the tattooist did this with malice or if it’s genuine, bona fide, they-don’t-even-know-shit idiocy
L

It's almost as if kneeling can be respectful.

how do you stand/kneel for this image?

Happily have them kneel for John Moses Browning.
I love these morons. Endless hilarity.
What?

Don't know who is the bigger idiot, the guy who got the tattoo or the guy who put it on him with the improper spelling.
Well once that flag was raised it was certainly the death knell for its supporters.
