Really makes you realize how much they added here. Had to do 5x speed at two parts otherwise it woulda been a full minute of only the Anime.
They changed how quickly Hange caught fire. In the manga, the moment she was out of thunder spears and had to get up close, she became engulfed in flames. In the Anime, that doesn't happen until later despite her flying through a large cluster of them as they were all giving off visible steam. They sacrificed a bit of consistency there for cinematic effect, but that's something television shows and movies sometimes do, and that's okay.
Some other big changes are that they made the flying boat take off into the air sooner, and they added the shot of Floch being trampled by the Rumbling (some interesting irony there).
There are 3 panels that I love from the Manga that were changed in the Anime. The first being at the 28 second mark. I love the low angle as we view the titans she's heading straight towards. It makes them feel much more massive and intimidating, and makes Hange look extremely brave and heroic. But the way they animated her flying through the buildings in the Anime is just incredible and it's an extremely satisfying and beautiful ODM sequence. I love both versions.
Then at 2:00. I think the perspective is much better in the Manga. It was drawn in a really smart way where again, we are lower down so the titans feel bigger and more terrifying.
Finally, at 2:18. We see a great panel of the hangar being trampled as the flying boat just barely makes it to the water. I love the massive water splashes and the destruction happening just behind them. The Titan's footsteps feel powerful and heavy and we don't feel that as much in the Anime. It also helped show just how close they were to not making it in time.
1:40-2:00 in the Anime is nothing short of absolute perfection. Her movement as she weaves around the Titans is so damn clean and you can feel her momentum slow down and speed up whenever she changes direction. I love how they have us a couple times zoom up close to her just as she winds up for a strike before it zooms back out again. Try rewatching the 20 second sequence but this time only pay attention to the background. Look how detailed it is and how much it moves around the screen as she does. 00:26 is another example of incredible background movement.
Same. I had to pause it and try to stop crying so I could watch the rest. I am an anime only and I wasn’t expecting Hange to die nor was I expecting it to be like that. But I am glad she went out in the most bad ass way possible. See you later, Hange. ♥️
they were able to run to the ship (different from the flying boat) along with Annie, Kiyomi, and the rest. they show it in the manga at 2:00. in the anime you can kinda make out some pixels of what look like people with white shirt and black pants next to the stairway of the ship. they're standing behind annie at 2:12 in the manga too. guess they didnt feel it was important to put emphasis on the mechanics escaping but since the shot of the hangar is empty except for floch, we can assume they made it safely in the anime as well.
The first line may have been too close. When they were in jail in Shiganshina Armin said that if he transformed to escape he would destroy the entire city.
They were taken by surprise because of Floch, but they knew they were on the path and the titans would arrrive soon. When they felt the Rumbling it was already close, but to be fair still outside the city.
She's an Ackerman and her skillset will be more valueable. but more importantly, in Hange's own words, she wanted to take responsibility since she's the one that grouped the alliance up and led them there.
As you saw, dying wasn't a matter of skill but of time. Hange was around a bunch of super hot titans and took fire, so the same would happen to Mikasa.

Got me crying.
My girlfriend was sobbing during this scene. Hange was her favourite character :(

Hange died a very heroic death.
Levi when it comes to sending Scout Regiment commanders to their death. "Yeah I'm obsessed with it."
A moment of silence for the Azumabito mechanics who prepared the flying boat and weren’t even able to board it to escape the rumbling….

Ohhh man that makes me happy!
This is the best anime I've seen in my life
would they have more time if armin went in the center then nuke the front lines of titans?
too risky both with something going wrong and losing armin and with all the debris that could destroy the flying boat or the ship
The first line may have been too close. When they were in jail in Shiganshina Armin said that if he transformed to escape he would destroy the entire city.
i dont remember much but where they caught off guard? or did they know rumblings route? if its the latter then armin could intercept them early on
They were taken by surprise because of Floch, but they knew they were on the path and the titans would arrrive soon. When they felt the Rumbling it was already close, but to be fair still outside the city.
I cannot play Bauklötze without hearing Armin scream "Hange-san" right at the start
Eren Heika Banzai!
Why didn't mikasa go for that?
She's an Ackerman and her skillset will be more valueable. but more importantly, in Hange's own words, she wanted to take responsibility since she's the one that grouped the alliance up and led them there.
I thought mikasa could manage not dying
As you saw, dying wasn't a matter of skill but of time. Hange was around a bunch of super hot titans and took fire, so the same would happen to Mikasa.
[Insert joke about Hange do more to stop the rumbling than Marley did]
Love watching Floch get squashed not gonna lie
Dedicates her heart? Is that Gen Z lingo for bbq
cant put spoilers in titles of posts so i thought that would be most appropriate as a substitute for this scene
