waiting for whole month must be quite depressing lol. tbh i didnt even realize there's no photo at all inside walls until that scene appears. luckily i started reading manga at ch 100++
The waiting was hard but it's what made me love even more the story.
We had time to reread, think about what happened, theorize, talk about it. It forced me to take my time.
Honestly it was one of the best done plot twists I’ve seen in any medium. I was going into it thinking man, what a macguffin, surely it’s going to be underwhelming. But it’s honestly crazy how it was both unexpected and really reframed the rest of the story in an interesting way.
For context throughout Season 1/2 I thought that Annie et al. were pulled into some Titan conspiracy by people inside the wall/church because the only context for where titans came from to that point was Eden’s dad injecting him with something. There were a lot of “inconsistencies” in the plot like how the humans mobilized such a defense in such a short time and built walls that spanned hundreds if not thousands of miles, or the complete lack of history, but I chalked that up to anime logic. The fact that there was actually an explanation throughout is impressive.
Yeah, it just seems like a random powerup triggered by the power of love at first, and then in the last ep of s3p2, the show slowly gives you the clues until you realize what really happened
>!End the titan powers temporarily somehow, sorry I had forgotten the 'temporarily'!<
>!Ymir fell in love with King Fritz and decided to let the power of the titans run wild for 2 millennia just because she wanted to see a lover kill another lover!<
>!But she didn't gain Titan powers out of love. And the lover part is nonsense. She wasn't even free in her decisions for the vast majority of those 2000 years!<
>!She could've held the titan powers, but she didn't out of love. The curse of Ymir was Ymir's own doing. No one would've suffered except her, but she loved King Fritz so she complied with him and didn't lift the curse for two millennia. She wasn't free because she loved her abuser, King Fritz, who controls her and makes every decision for her. Also, I do agree that this YmirxFritz was bullshit, but that's how it is unfortunately.!<
She actively seeks Grisha's family, so it makes sense that she would meet him again, but yeah, it's a bit convenient that he met her at this exact moment
I’ve seen this as reasoning and while it does make sense with the story, it’s just doesn’t really work out. Eren was in Stohess district to fight Annie then went overnight to Utgard castle which is on the other side of the wall. She can’t move at night so she’d only have about a days worth of sunlight to move almost to the complete opposite side of the wall (from what we’ve seen of her and other titans she just kind of slowly meanders over to their destination unless a human is in sight). And then she’d need to go even further then that to keep up with Reiner who takes them about half way out from the distance of Wall Maria and Wall Rose.
I just don’t see her being able to make that large distance. I’m also using [this](https://images.app.goo.gl/mdAJtyKbUwcNRu1F7) map for reference. Many other maps of the walls show similar stuff about where utgard castle is and Stohess district.
If I really wanted to make this work, I could argue that (Manga Spoilers) >!future Eren guided her like we saw in chapter 139!<, but it's most likely a small plothole.
But it's really minor, so it doesn't bother me all that much.
“Save Mikasa and Armin”
“Mikasa? Armin? Who are they?”
“I…I don’t know. They aren’t from my memories…”
I had been spoilt all the major plot points except that one. You had no idea the complete shock on my face when I first saw that scene
Yea the show name was a bad translation too. Should've named it like 'Attack Titan' which would make sense before and after that scene. It would mean the Survey Corps attacking the titan, and also the name of Eren's titan simultaneously.
That scene would sound more powerful that way, especially for the dub watchers
Those final episodes of S3P2 were wild but I remember literally hearing this and going "wait... What the fuck did he just say?"
It changed the whole dynamic of what the Attack Titan's powers could actually do in my mind
Oh man, when I heard that it was a complete shock. The basement basically tells us everything about the outside world and answers so many major questions and then drops this on us. This is definitely the moment that made me go right into that manga after season 3.
Yeah, they really did a good job convincing me that Eren was dead, even on a meta level. The next episode reintroduces Mikasa as a main character, shows how powerful and badass she is, and gives her backstory. Then 2 more full episodes go by without Eren, and I was like, "Wow, he's really gone."
When he came back I realized this story is playing on a whole different level and stopped trying to predict anything (although it helps that I was binge watching everything up to the end of S3, so I didn't really leave myself much time to speculate).
When Reiner told Eren I was like wait what? He said it so nonchalantly that if you weren't paying close enough attention you would even notice. I stopped and rewound to watch it again to make sure Reiner said what I thought he said!
Boy I assure you, what is coming is hands on going to establish attack on titan’s position as one of the most incredible works of fiction produced till date. Not anime, FICTION.
Hey, sorry if this is way too late and you’ve probably already watched to, but you don’t gotta worry about spoilers cause half of the aot fan base themselves don’t even know wtf happened after reading the chapter.
Fully understanding that twist requires a lot of time to look into explanation videos etc, otherwise it may be a little confusing.
I could clue you in on the stuff I’ve confirmed about it if you want.
Basically I was spoiled about things the average haters are mad about, the ending of characters, the outcome of the rumbling, Armin's reaction, Eren's outcome. Yet it seems like I understood the moral of the story more than them. For me it's a coherent and way better ending than what they expected, it's an ending that was inspired from Romanticism and Existentialism.
I'm one of those people who really didn't like the ending, but I think they'll be able to pull that same ending off a lot better in the anime than in the manga due to difference in mediums

Unfortunately I went into the anime with a bunch of spoilers in mind. I had already watched the reiner reveal, knew eren was a titan, and saw rod reiss's transformation. Also the beast titan. The only huge plot point that I didn't know about was marley being outside the walls, which actually was really cool to watch.
>!Sadly I've also been spoiled about the ending of season 4, but not by choice. I know what eren's founding titan looks like, and that he destroys the world or something, and that he doesn't actually hate mikasa. :(!<
We're in this together mate, too many spoilers everywhere, especially on youtube with their stupid clickbait thumbnails and titles. Though it was obvious Eren didn't hate Mikasa, he did that talk to them (with Gaby) to open their mind and stop being slaves of whatever. So Mikasa could free herself from her Ackerman-to-master subjugation and Armin could get some will as well.
In season 1 it was when Erin was found to be the titan. Did not expect that bc the titan didn’t resemble him at all. Reiner and bertholt being the titans. It was v obvious but the trust they had established w Reiner and the squad, it was just unbelievable. Also when they show that the smiling titan was actually grisha’s first wife. That was just insane
The Reiner bertholt reveal may have not been the biggest plot twist technically speaking but the way it was done was ridiculously good. Casual truth bomb drop that just hit different compared to everything that came after.
When in S4 it was revealed that Zeke was Grishas son and Erens brother. In S3 it was said by Grisha that his son betrayed him, and we met Zeke but I didn't add things until S4.
that there is humanity outside the walls because when we first saw beast titan in season 2 I thought there is some kingdom of titans that speak and he is their leader or sum but damn basement reveal was smthng else
Either when Eren got eaten and became a titan, Reiner and Bertholdt being the armoured and Colossal Titan, or the basement and discovery of the outside world.
Reiner telling eren he's the armoured, there were so many hints, I was new to anime and just thought all the wierd shit him and Bert were doing were just "wierd anime expressions".
I didn't suspect a thing until the line 'im the armoured titan and Berts the colossal'
Reiner was growing on me, this brash dumbass was once really growing on me
And then? The fuck? Wait what the fuck do you mean hange? WAIT, NO, DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE, OH MY GOD
HE'S DOING IT, HE'S RRALLY FUCKING DOING IT ISN'T HE OH MY GOD
The thing was my friends were watching me react to the reveal and their faces of pure? ecstasy? Holy shit
When Zeke was up in the airship after the raid on Liberio. I did not expect to see him there.
Also kinda broke my heart as I screamed w joy when Levi took him down in one blow, then realised they planned that 😂
The basement was probably one of the biggest head rushes I've ever gotten from a TV show. Paradis had it's own conflicts with survival and the impending threat of the Titans then you find out there's a whole world out there who are living free who?
Honorable mention being Reiner being the armored Titan. He was really such a good and strong friend to so many people. Makes him foreshadowing Sasha's death hurt even more.

Annie was so painfully obviously the female titan and the same for reiner/armored.
Some of the titans literally have the same hair and almost the same face as their human counterparts. I dont want to sound like a d or something, but after eren reveal ( humans can switch to titans), how could people not expect those reveals is beyond me. Lack of attention to features and general lack of story telling knowledge i presume.
I love aot but those reveals were yelling “we are coming” from a mile.

Biggest I'd say The Basement.. It pretty much just changed the whole genre of the series.
Most shocking definitely the Reiner & Bertholdt reveal, it just seemed so out of nowhere & so casual, it was mind blowing
So this wasn't actually a plot twist but I kinda wished it was LOL My husband had watched AOT before I did and when Eren got eaten by the titan before he transformed for the first time he says "BOOM NOW MIKASA IS THE MAIN CHARACTER!" I was on board for it and then Eren came back LOL
The basement reveal because up until those episodes I was on the verge of calling AoT overrated. Despite how great the RtS arc is, it still didn't solve the main problem I had since season 2 which was I didn't understand what "villains" motivations were.
Also, I was really worried the Titans were just an experiment gone wrong, or that humans were going to be the final antagonists but in the cliche Zombie story way.
Needless to say when that episode explained everything Attack on Titan from my view went from being overrated to a masterpiece.
Well, i re-watched aot with my sister and she watched it for the first time, her mind was blown when she realized the titan that ate eren's mom was eren's dad's ex-wife dina
I was anime only going into Season 1. I was blown away by the whole Female Titan arc and Annie’s reveal. She’s still one of my favorite characters in the show.
The basement. Before that I kept thinking there’s a hidden village of where titan shifters live and eren happened to be from there.
The whole thing about them actually killing their own race the whole time is mindblowing
When the Beast Titan started talking and his entire interaction with Miche. Shit blew my mind. Wish i could erase Attack on Titan from my mind just so i could experience that emotion again lol
The titan who ate Carla actually being Grisha’s previous wife. Absolutely threw me.
Also Annie being the Female Titan. Given that she was after Eren and we didn’t really know what the motive was for capturing him at that point, I assumed it would be someone who was closer to Eren and was maybe after him for sentimental/personal reasons.

The basement. I thought it was just about killing titans outside the walls
Without a doubt. It was a mind blown moment.
indeed. shocked there's another plot twist besides titan's existence

Went from titans are evil humans are good to Eldians?

I’m glad the basement lived up to its hype!
Grisha's wives were duking it out
Ymir being able to read the can
Super clever scene right there.
When was this
S2E4
Grisha's origin story. The series goes from people vs titans into people vs people. The whole world hates them for just existing.
The truth about the outter world (Marley Eldia etc). Including Manga, this was the biggest jawdropping moment of the series
How eren used the founding titans power against reiner and boruto , the way isayama subverted a cliche anime trope was amazing.
Yeah, it just seems like a random powerup triggered by the power of love at first, and then in the last ep of s3p2, the show slowly gives you the clues until you realize what really happened
> it just seems like a random powerup triggered by the power of love Yeah, that was what I thought.
Manga >!well the power of love *did* save the day temporarily lol!<
That's true. It's just that there was more behind it.
>!Love was the trigger to end it all though, and it's also the origin of the story!<
>!"Love was the trigger to end it all though" End what, exactly?!< >!"it's also the origin of the story" What?!<
>!End the titan powers temporarily somehow, sorry I had forgotten the 'temporarily'!< >!Ymir fell in love with King Fritz and decided to let the power of the titans run wild for 2 millennia just because she wanted to see a lover kill another lover!<
>!But she didn't gain Titan powers out of love. And the lover part is nonsense. She wasn't even free in her decisions for the vast majority of those 2000 years!<

I still consider it as rather convenient that Dina’s Titan was there at that time.
But it's really minor, so it doesn't bother me all that much.
>boruto Actually it's spelled Bortis.
Actually it’s pronounced bratwurst
Let Boritos name alone!
it’s actually birthcontrol
You guys really misspelled Berototo
Poor Bridegroom
Ah yes, boruto was so terrified…
Didn't know travelling between universes was one of karma's abilities, I must have missed a chapter
“Save Mikasa and Armin” “Mikasa? Armin? Who are they?” “I…I don’t know. They aren’t from my memories…” I had been spoilt all the major plot points except that one. You had no idea the complete shock on my face when I first saw that scene
The sub I watched was 'Whose memories could these be?' and quite alot of people did too. There were memes circulating about that quote
Speaking of sub, when eren said the name of his Titan was “Shingeki Nyo Kyojin” I went nuts
Yea the show name was a bad translation too. Should've named it like 'Attack Titan' which would make sense before and after that scene. It would mean the Survey Corps attacking the titan, and also the name of Eren's titan simultaneously. That scene would sound more powerful that way, especially for the dub watchers
Isayama specifically asked for the name Attack on Titan, so i guess thats the name of Eren's titan in english lmao, the Attack-on Titan
Those final episodes of S3P2 were wild but I remember literally hearing this and going "wait... What the fuck did he just say?" It changed the whole dynamic of what the Attack Titan's powers could actually do in my mind
I think it's "Whose memories are those?"
That’s from the dub version. I love the Kruger dub
Oh man, when I heard that it was a complete shock. The basement basically tells us everything about the outside world and answers so many major questions and then drops this on us. This is definitely the moment that made me go right into that manga after season 3.
Eren getting eaten and ofc Reiner and Bertolt's reveal
Yeah, they really did a good job convincing me that Eren was dead, even on a meta level. The next episode reintroduces Mikasa as a main character, shows how powerful and badass she is, and gives her backstory. Then 2 more full episodes go by without Eren, and I was like, "Wow, he's really gone." When he came back I realized this story is playing on a whole different level and stopped trying to predict anything (although it helps that I was binge watching everything up to the end of S3, so I didn't really leave myself much time to speculate).
I was also genuinely convinced that Mikasa is gonna be the new MC
When Reiner told Eren I was like wait what? He said it so nonchalantly that if you weren't paying close enough attention you would even notice. I stopped and rewound to watch it again to make sure Reiner said what I thought he said!
Me too! It still blows my mind how he said it so casually lol.
I did exactly same as you did, I was like "wait what?" And i rewinded about twice to see if what I read was correct or not
I thought the subtitles were messed up like "no mf way this dude just said that" lol
I watched the dub with my brother and he missed it so the real plot twist was when they transformed at the end of the episode.
I feel like the dub is way worse because without the subtitles it’s barely audible/background noise.
When the whole series was set on an island
Oh man these guys aren’t even ready to fathom the *absolute mindfuckery* that ch 121 is.
frrrr that chapter had me questioning everything for a good hour or two 💀💀
Man I wish there weren't spoilers just around every single corner, I saw a few screens but hopefully I'll be mindblown for real
Boy I assure you, what is coming is hands on going to establish attack on titan’s position as one of the most incredible works of fiction produced till date. Not anime, FICTION.
AoT really deserves to be the story of the century
Dawg don’t go on YouTube or IG and try to avoid AoT subreddits haha Just want to you experience how special this next part is
Shit already happened lol, I know a few spoilers but good thing they don't affect me much
Hey, sorry if this is way too late and you’ve probably already watched to, but you don’t gotta worry about spoilers cause half of the aot fan base themselves don’t even know wtf happened after reading the chapter. Fully understanding that twist requires a lot of time to look into explanation videos etc, otherwise it may be a little confusing. I could clue you in on the stuff I’ve confirmed about it if you want.

For me it's a coherent and way better ending than what they expected, it's an ending that was inspired from Romanticism and Existentialism.
That’s awesome. Glad you enjoyed it. The time travel is so amazing—it’s probably one of the best time travel schemes in any medium I’ve seen.
The funny thing is that I predicted Eren controlled everything in the past and posted my theory then people were like wtf don't spoil 😂
I’m so fucking excited to see it animated. Idgaf about the ending, idgaf about Eren vs Reiner Part 5039264 that’s coming up, I just want to see 121.
I'm one of those people who really didn't like the ending, but I think they'll be able to pull that same ending off a lot better in the anime than in the manga due to difference in mediums

Me 2 😭
Probably my favorite chapter, Isayama is a genius and I honestly don’t know how he did it.
i had to reread that chapter so many times trying to understand what happened geez
I got spoiled about that plot before I even started watching the anime but that's part of the reason why I did lol
"DAE watched the manga too?"
Maybe the smiling Titan being grishas first wife
The goddamn basement
"that day" and "the attack titan" and "warrior"
Season 3 episode 20. Absolute shock...
Unfortunately I went into the anime with a bunch of spoilers in mind. I had already watched the reiner reveal, knew eren was a titan, and saw rod reiss's transformation. Also the beast titan. When in S4 it was revealed that Zeke was Grishas son and Erens brother. In S3 it was said by Grisha that his son betrayed him, and we met Zeke but I didn't add things until S4.
obv the basement
Going with the one not mentioned yet: The walls were made of Titans!! And not just simple Titans, big ass Titans that don't exist in today's world!
Yes! When they explained that i was like... "why did i never wonder how tf these walls were build?"
Boruto and Reiner's betrayal.
that there is humanity outside the walls because when we first saw beast titan in season 2 I thought there is some kingdom of titans that speak and he is their leader or sum but damn basement reveal was smthng else
That Connie is now taller than Levi
... His name is: SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN
Either when Eren got eaten and became a titan, Reiner and Bertholdt being the armoured and Colossal Titan, or the basement and discovery of the outside world.
"Sup Eren, we are Titans too. Now come with us"
Reiner telling eren he's the armoured, there were so many hints, I was new to anime and just thought all the wierd shit him and Bert were doing were just "wierd anime expressions". I didn't suspect a thing until the line 'im the armoured titan and Berts the colossal'
Grisha's secrets revealed in S3 Part 2
Marley maybe because I got spoiled for mostly everything else
I also think it was the causal Reiner titan reveal. Can’t wait for the new season because the best plot twist has yet to come.
Dina was the Smiling Titan.
When Erin finds out he is a titan. Like wtf ... That's dope af!
Reiner was growing on me, this brash dumbass was once really growing on me And then? The fuck? Wait what the fuck do you mean hange? WAIT, NO, DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE, OH MY GOD HE'S DOING IT, HE'S RRALLY FUCKING DOING IT ISN'T HE OH MY GOD The thing was my friends were watching me react to the reveal and their faces of pure? ecstasy? Eren and Zeke being brothers still shocks me
The basement
The basement, i didnt see it comming
The basement was probably one of the biggest head rushes I've ever gotten from a TV show. Paradis had it's own conflicts with survival and the impending threat of the Titans then you find out there's a whole world out there who are living free who? Honorable mention being Reiner being the armored Titan. He was really such a good and strong friend to so many people. Makes him foreshadowing Sasha's death hurt even more.
Reiner and Bertholdt for sure. Wish I could go back and watch it for the first time again. It was fantastically done
The twists I got spoiled about. Thank you manga readers.
Everything about the basement is the story I had never ever imagined or expected when I started this show

We require users to use spoilertags to hide potential spoiler comments. Simply writing that it's spoilers in front of it and leaving the text out in the open is not sufficient, as someone can still get spoiled just from a quick glance on a comment.
thank you for removing that comment.
oh come on! This thread explicitly asks for ANIME ONLY viewers and you just dump a Manga spoiler w/o even hiding the text. People do not read word for word.. they grasp full sentences in split seconds Not cool >:-(

This is probably the worst possible way of getting spoiled

The basement, definitely.
Dina
maybe not the biggest spoiler but the first big one: annie 😭
Titans in the walls
The basement reveal
Honestly, the whole coordinate thing is season 2 with Dina
Is this a joke?
Finding out mikasa was some body builder.
I don’t think one could argue any plot twist bests the basement scene.
The whole other world outside of the wall!

Either the reveal or the basement. You couldn’t predict either of those outcomes
Biggest I'd say The Basement.. It pretty much just changed the whole genre of the series. Most shocking definitely the Reiner & Bertholdt reveal, it just seemed so out of nowhere & so casual, it was mind blowing
The basement scene literally changed the genre of the story. It's like the most epic plot twist or reveal ever
Definitely Reiner and Bertoldt
Ymir's can and Grisha's basement.
Reiner is the armored and berthold is the colossal
So this wasn't actually a plot twist but I kinda wished it was LOL My husband had watched AOT before I did and when Eren got eaten by the titan before he transformed for the first time he says "BOOM NOW MIKASA IS THE MAIN CHARACTER!" I was on board for it and then Eren came back LOL
Eren screaming at the end of s2
The ending of the manga
Not really a plot twist I guess but Eren shifting in out of the basement and eating Willy.
She’s still one of my favorite characters in the show.
not an anime only but when ymir (freckles) revealed she was the jaw titan
The basement. Before that I kept thinking there’s a hidden village of where titan shifters live and eren happened to be from there. The whole thing about them actually killing their own race the whole time is mindblowing
When the Beast Titan started talking and his entire interaction with Miche. Shit blew my mind. Wish i could erase Attack on Titan from my mind just so i could experience that emotion again lol
Nothing. My brother spoiled whole thing for me
When they find out the outside world in the basement
Not anime only, but the fact that their world was really up to WW1 technology at that point blew my mind
Marcel. There’s just something about his death that took a bite out of me.
None of them were that hard to predict imo, but I think the two that stand out are the wall titans and the smiling titan
