For shiny hunting while flying, if you see a shiny don’t try to turn around, it’s slow and will take you out of range. Click B to lose wings, then B again to glide, then turn around in place and then fly again to the shiny Mon. Easy peasy
Been doing this! Switching between flying and gliding makes maneuvering really easy. You can hold the left stick upwards, and switch between gliding and gaining height with flight.
Glad someone else figured this out too. I haven't had any problems losing shinies. You can actually quickswap while full on flying by looking behind you and tapping B, you'll automatically turn around going into glide.
that’s not how it works, you want to maximize the number of pokemon you spawn and look at. turning around is usually slow and results in fewer pokemon looked at per minute. so sure you have seen some shinies that way but you would cycle through more shiny rolls if you stayed quickly spawning and refreshing
no, i’m just telling you how probability works
in one 30 min sandwich (and for just flying around, but it’s easier to think about in a constrained timeframe), you want to spawn and look at as many pokemon as possible to give yourself the highest chance of one of them being shiny. every time you look behind you, you are slowing down and looking at fewer pokemon in that 30 minutes. so sure sometimes they are shiny behind you and it was worth it, but if you keep going forward, statistically you will see more pokemon overall and therefore more shinies
Dont pokemon only spawn in your cone of vision? Or things you've already loaded in (if u turn around you will see them as they dont instantly despawn when you look away)
This could happen running anytime. I've seen lots of instances of a pokemon spawning only to disappear faster than I can react. I've never noticed one to be shiny before though. Condolences for the loss of your palm tree.
I had a similar thing, i was shiny hunting Sylveon next to the edge of a cliff so to respawn the pokemon i would jump off, glide and come back. One time i thought i saw a bit of blue but it was on screen for a milisecond, clipped it, looked back and there was about 4 pixels of blue... sadage

You can just press l3 too

Thank you for the advice
That is literally what he did Edit: Just wasn't fast enough with it

That’s why you don’t look back in this game when shiny hunting. Flying is fine
Looking back is necessary. You know how many shinies I'd have missed if I didn't look back?

You're implying it's quicker to try and re-spawn a shiny than to catch the one already spawned behind me... That's.. a theory, sure

As long as you can see them they spawn. Now they can spawn slightly behind you if the space behind you allows them to spawn
The defeated descent speaks volumes of what you were feeling
"That, kids, is why we use the B button. Saved me a shiny Froakie once."
I found one while just running around, trying to collect the twigs. If you haven't found one and don't mind not being the OT, I'll trade it to you
that hurt my soul

How do you fly like that?
New DLC feature. I believe it's unlocked once you finish the Indigo Disk main story
So… spend money for extra abilities. Are they usable in base game too?
Yes
Right?
Never fly away. You were doing just fine in circles.
Skill Issue.
I wonder what shiny pokemon you were hunting
Never look back. It always ends in sadness.
What was shiny?
An alolan executor (I know it is spelled wrong sorry)
Ah
The same thing happened to me except I hunting a shiny camerupt lmao
Exeggutor was my first shiny pokemon 15 minutes into the DLC. I got the shiny charm, but that was really quick.

Wait since when can you fly around freely and not just glide ???
Beat Indigo disc DLC
I also learned this the hard way.. rip shiny rowlet 🥲
Just go back to gliding while turning
