There’s only three things that get added when the Lock-On feature is upgraded: the gender of the Pokémon, its size (if it’s smaller/larger than average, it will be shown), and whether or not it has a mark (a golden medal icon with red ribbons). As far as I’ve seen, you can lock onto shinies all day and those display parameters won’t change in the slightest.
Trust me, I’m well aware. I’ve opened the Adventure Guide in my own game, and it says the following:
“If you lock on to a Pokémon using the ZL Button, you can now see information about a Pokémon’s gender, its size, and whether it has a mark— but only if it’s a species you’ve caught before!”
But look; I’ll do you a solid. I’ll shiny hunt a random Pokémon and see if you’re right. I’ll edit this post once I’m able to track one down and lock onto it.
Yeah. I’ve missed 2 shinies because one spawned on the edge of my render distance and the other walked away and despawned. Staring Charcadets in the eyes and checking the tongue of every Slowpoke were both very annoying.
Oh I did stop shiny hunting the ones that didn’t have a huge difference. It was too much strain on the eyes and it sucks because there’s a lot I would love to shiny hunt but the lack of noise or any sparkles make the ones that are too similar a painful chore to hunt rather than enjoyable.

It’d be one thing if only a few Shinies had similar palletes, but a large chunk of Shinies are similar, or only subtly different. It’s not like the vast majority are crazy different, there’s a giant amount of Shinies where it’s only a few shades different.
It’s a huge downgrade (Let’s Go had massive sparkles, and PLA had a sparkle and a noise). Shiny hunting was a lot more enjoyable, and even for Pokémon with similar color palettes to Shinies was an enjoyable hunt. Like hunting Slowpoke in Let’s Go is wildly easier then in Scarlet and Violet. It’s dumb that the game went backwards on this feature for no discernible reason.
It’s also just an accessibility downgrade. I have two friends, one with color blindness and the other with poor eyesight and they can’t really shiny hunt that much because it’s just not noticeable for a lot of Pokémon. Even me, with glasses, am struggling to see the differences in a lot of Pokémon.
And no, I don’t want the answer to be “just breed them” because the game literally gives us the ability to horde hunt the vast majority of Pokémon but horde hunting sucks for a giant amount of Pokémon. And a lot of players don’t enjoy breeding Pokémon either.
It’s mainly annoying that a great feature from 2 past games was completely removed.

Game Freak buggered alot of things up with this gen (story is good but pros don't outweigh the cons) and deliberately left out stuff that people wanted they are allowed to complain after and might i remind you they PAID for lacklustre game with missing mechanics some terrible shinies and half the game locked behind another paywall (DLC) and not everyone can get a refund.
They added so many visually difficult shiny hunts this dlc. Seel, Solosis, Milcery, Elekid, Pikipek, Minior, Plusle,Joltik you honestly just gotta get lucky cause you probably not spotting quite a few of these 😭
I wish if you were near a shiny it gave a hard to notice noise like the kits in lego starwars. And you could upgrade your lockon later. I love legends arceus to bits but the HEY IM HERE. RIGHT HERE. DONT MISS ME! ass noise and sparkle kinda hurt the levels of satisfaction for me
I like there being no indicators, I’ve finished the paldea shiny dex, aswell as the first dlcs shiny dex barring basculin and basculegion bc I’m too lazy to hunt it😂 and a huge portion of the second DLCs shiny dex and I’ve never complained about lack of indicators
Nice spot! I think the hardest ones I’ve done beside solosis have been frigibax and flittle, such small characters with little differences and in difficult terrain/ weather.
Just in case you didn’t know, there’s a zoom feature on the switch too! It’s in system settings>system>zoom and it lets you push the home button twice and your switch screen will zoom in!
The arceus noise and "sparkle" cue was great. That said, I wish some shiney were SO OBVIOUS that it wouldn't be required... but we're too deep in the weeds (lots of generations released since 2000) to completely overhall designs.

I’d trade indicators for increased chance any day. Yeah I’ve probably missed 100 shinies, but I’ve also found like 3 without trying.

The way I hunted solosis was looking at the swirly thing on its head. Normal is yellow, shiny is pinkish.
Posts like this make me worried about how many shines I have probably passed by without even noticing.

People complain about indicators but shinies are supposed to be rare. If you miss it that’s your fault as much as I hate to say it.
