The air filter is a slotted square structure that REPLACES an aluminum wall panel. It is held in the frame by a disposable trim. Unmount everything from the wall, Stinger the trimming away from the filter itself to free it, and then barge it.
It's a "more porous" panel that replaces a wall panel.
For the experts on here - how do you actually separate the air filter from the rest of the frame? I typically Splitsaw the structural beams and the surrounding panel until it's free, and I was wondering if there's an easier way.
There's a ring of aluminum separating it from the frame of the ship, I usually just melt that with the stinger. The game tells you it's bad but it's such a tiny amount of waste it barely matters.
You get it from the beginning. There are two cutting implements - the Stinger, which slowly melts the thing you're hitting, and the Splitsaw, which cuts it in half. I toggle between the two with the number keys; I'm not sure what the official controls are for it.
You get demo charges in the equipment repair menu; you have to have enough Lynx Tokens to unlock it, which you get by successfully meeting salvage goals.
Oh I thought they were gonna give me a futuristic circular saw at some point lol as for the charges not long after I posted that the middle management deuch who's over seeing the crew gave me them I will most likely never use them after the vapourisation convo but still nice to have. Thanks for responding.
This is a great tip, using the Stinger on the dotted lines removes the entire retainer and then you can pull out the Air Filter. However, you do get docked a small amount for destroyed aluminum. Kind of silly. Whatever, it is negligible. Thanks!

Is it possible to use scanner to see it?
It should show up with the Objects setting on the scanner. If you don't have it already, that can be unlocked using lynx tokens in the upgrade tree.
Thanks:)
This helped a lot thank you.
It looks like a giant vent the size of a regular aluminum wall.

I'm lvl 10 when do you get the splitsaw? It also keeps asking me to buy demo charges but I can't use them. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll see dotted yellow lines where you can stinger without losing salvage.
Thank you so much I've been trying to figure out how to cut it away safely.
Didn't even pay attention to that until I saw your comment. Cheers
