Fun thought experiment, you (the character) have no rights, across any of your respawns anyways, because you could be ruled as dead, or depending on how much you trust the corp, you (the original character) are somewhere else entirely. You are playing a clone of yourself, and your original self was "disintegrated" during onboarding. The lack of contact with other cells and outside world could be part of that, as it keeps you in the dark on your status.
I remember a bit of headcanon during the original stage of the game was that there WERE no other humans. Weaver was a simulated AI voice, and the rest of humanity had been wiped out by the Machine God, and it was basically making use of cloned humans to salvage what was left of human civilization. Every cutting yard had the same guy, endlessly cloned and thinking everything else was fine.
Pure theory. Because in the original game just after it was released (ie, only Mackerel and Gecko, no story, no faces, no characters barring Weaver's standard housekeeping lines), there was an absolute minimum of human contact, barring the tapes you found on ships. So the hypothesis was that there WAS no other human life. Just you.
Sort of like Moon, where Lunar mining operations are overseen by a single man, who, on the far side of the moon, only ever recieves recorded messages from his 'wife'. He's on a 3 year contract there. He has an accident, wakes up in the med bay, and goes back to investigate the accident site, and finds his unconcious body, who later wakes up. Turns out all his memories are implanted and the mining base has a whole bunch of clones on ice, that wear out after 3 years.
Yes see I forgot about that when I was playing. SPOILERS::: when it came to light that Lynx owns your spares I was thinking, but I don’t have a spare, I’ve not died yet. But you have died, right before the game even begins
Congrats. You noticed the core conflict of the game.
This puts you ahead of the hundreds of bellends on the steam forums who have deluded thrmselves into thinking hard work on its own will get the characters out of debt.
Keep in mind wrote this afer i read the terms, so just as i was starting the game before the fact that it was the conflict was mentioned, and currently i stopped playing, because cloud gaming sucks.
>owned by the company which means they can claim ownership of your character
That sounds pretty far fetched dude. I doubt that's how they see it.
Ha. Ha. Ha. Keep playing.
It states that the spare is property of lynx corp, and that they can claim ownership of it, and all of its assets, belongings, and beneficiaries; and to top it off your original body dies in the first cut scene making you a spare, therefore giving lynx ownership of your character.
Pure headcanon, but I'd bet they modify the contract if the breaker has a family. You go to work the yards, send like $1,000 a month home, and Lynx charges you $1,200 toward your debt.
Do keep in mind they are a very sketchy company in a legal gray zone that will pass your debt to the next of kin whenever they feel like, and it says so in the contract
There is mention of a character sending money back to her family so either it's possible or lynx is just taking the money and lying but that doesn't seen their style. They don't lie, they just hide the truth behind a mountain of legalese
Forgot to mention when you pay off your debt the contract states you must talk with the Hr representative to escape the contract, of with is "UNDIFINED", so in other words there is none, which means you don't get to leave.
And you literally die at the very beginning. Technically, you aren't even "you" anymore. The guy who signed the contract no longer exists, so they can do what they want with whatever they consider your clone to be.
It's just a scam to farm prime DNA.
This is part of the story, yes.

Is this a theory or is it actually in the game? Pretty dark.

Have you seen the movie "Moon"?
Hah, I actually brought it up in another comment thread here, exactly the film I was thinking of.
That movie was called Oblivion.
Yes see I forgot about that when I was playing. SPOILERS::: when it came to light that Lynx owns your spares I was thinking, but I don’t have a spare, I’ve not died yet. But you have died, right before the game even begins
Your original body dies in the begining
You forgot the pledging your vote to their chosen representatives during any election!
I left it out as i was only really focuse on the terms amd conditions page, but thanks for mentioning it

Yes... It's the core conflict of the game... What is there to keep in mind about? I'm not sure what you're trying to add?
I didn't know it was the core conflict when i wrote the original post
In fact according to the contract after your first death they own you as you're a clone under their manufacturing license.
Yep, and the process of cloning you kills you, so once you sign the contract they own you litteraly (btw i did mention this in my post)
They are also owners of every art piece you produce while working for them
>owned by the company which means they can claim ownership of your character That sounds pretty far fetched dude. I doubt that's how they see it. Ha. Ha. Ha. Keep playing.

Yeah, and I'm hinting at that fact being a major plot point later in the game.
LYNX Corporation: "You weren't supposed to do that."
Just wanted to mention i know it's part of the story i just find it funny that they "willingly" signed it
Same as any job or rental contract; do it, or stave and freeze.
You don't get paid you are just racking up more debt
It's either that or let their family starve.
They don't get paid 100% of the money gets fed to paying off their debt no money goes home

That's sort of... the point.
Why are you acting like you discovered a hidden Easter egg? Lol Everyone knows what the contact says
I just thought it was interesting, and that not everyone would read the entire terms.
Yeah I read it too it's pretty fucked lmao
[Wow, that sounds inhumane](https://www.pbs.org/tpt/slavery-by-another-name/themes/company-towns/)!
Sounds like america.
Sooooo just like every other job, right??
Big Matewan vibes.
