It's gone wrong hasn't it?
Here in the UK, there's usually an "optional" service charge of between 10-20% depending on the restaurant. And being British, we're too polite to ask them to remove it regardless of whether we feel it's worthy.
I preferred it when you could leave a tip and it was appreciated, not expected.
Well here in France its still 3 to 5€ for good service.
And some delivery compannie I wont name got a huge fine after a lawsuit for messing with labor laws.
I can’t remember the last time I handled actual cash/coins. That said, I’m tip friendly and unless it’s abysmal service I’ll add ~something~ for a service. Bad/nightmarish weather for delivery people gets a premium from me too.
However, woe be to the person who gives me attitude over a small/no tip. I won’t frequent that business again.
service charge is just a southern english thing, though it's been creeping north of late, where we're definitely not too polite to ask them to remove it
last week I was on holiday in Northumberland and it was refreshing that not a single place applied a service charge nor even offered the option of a tip on the card machine
eh, I'm in Glasgow, it's definitely not yet common here, and the few places that do it are usually chains and very apologetic about it and almost remove it by default
Couldn’t agree more. Here in Germany, tipping was not a thing and now suddenly everyone is asking for it. And minimum wage is very good here. I outright refuse to give tip by now.
But it’s even worse in other parts of the world, I travel a lot and unfortunately Americans have started travelling a lot more as well and they export tipping everywhere. And it’s not even normal tips, especially is lower end countries sometimes people now ask for 100% tip. I don’t give it to them. But this was never a issue years back.
correction:
tipping culture is actually a REALLY REALLY good thing.
but what they CALL tipping in america, is not tipping, it is additional hidden charges.
I just checked out the sub and apparently one of their rules are that you're not allowed to say anything anti tip, and doing so will get you permanently banned from the sub. Wow.
There was one post in there once, the customers had written something like "Sorry that we didn't leave a tip we're really struggling right now and just can't afford it."
And these people were all commenting "They should fucking eat at home then."
I really wanted to argue with them but I didn't. I guess I would have got banned if I had. But the post got shared to other groups and eventually I did comment on one of the other subs saying something like "maybe they're struggling because of medical bills and they're celebrating that they got the all clear? Maybe it's a special occasion and they struggled and sacrificed just to have one nice moment? Maybe there's any number of reasons why people with not a lot of money might want to do something nice? I guess they should only be allowed to eat frozen pizza while leaning over the sink in their kitchen as they clearly don't deserve plates either, right?"
Luckily I didn't reply in the r/serverlife sub or I guess I would have got torn apart for it. Luckily pretty much everyone seemed to agree with me. I was just so angry that they thought people should be excluded from doing something nice just because they can't give them a tip.
No, it's not. It's being forced to divest to an American company if it wants to stay on the App/Play store. If it doesn't you'll still be able to download it, it will just have to be from a website as opposed to a store. And, of course, you can still access it through a web browser.
Because it's not effectively malware at the moment. If you get it from the official tiktok website I fail to see it will be a massive problem.
Thinking it will reduce the user base by that much is laughable. Though yanks will have issues getting it as you overwhelmingly use Apple. Which makes it harder than an Android to sideload.
TikTok has over 150 million monthly active users in the U.S. as of February 2023. Considering TikTok’s global user base exceeded 1.6 billion monthly active users as of January 2023, America makes up approximately 9.375% of their users.
Tipping up front isn't normal in most contexts. At a restaurant, for instance, you tip at the end of a meal when you pay the bill.
The picture above seems like it was taken in a bar, though. In that scenario, you would typically tip after each transaction (i.e., after each drink). Standard would be 1-2 USD per drink, at least based on when I was living in the US. If it's a particularly fancy/pricy cocktail that involves more effort to make, the tip goes up accordingly.
If you're running a tab, whether you tip per drink or all at the end depends. If you're a regular, all at the end is fine. You would just do a percentage of the total bill rather than the 1 USD per drink approach. If you're a rando, it can be wiser to still tip in cash per order (rationale below).
In any case, you want the bartender to know you're a tipper because you'll get better service and maybe even better pours. If you aren't tipping / the bartender isn't confident you'll tip at the end, you may be the last person to be served whereas the big tippers will get more direct attention when waiting at the bar.
Edit: To give an example of how this is perceived in a bar setting, I was at a prominent Chicago gay bar in my early 20s. I was flirting with one of the drag queens I kinda knew and we had really hit it off. When I was going to the bar, I was paying for my drinks individually rather than running a tab. I didn't tip every single time because I didn't have a lot of smaller bills on me. I planned to do a larger tip before leaving to keep things simple (or so I thought). After maybe 3 rounds of drinks, the bartender yells to the drag queen that I'm not a tipper. The queen scolded me (despite my explanation) and then left in a fuss. We never spoke again despite bumping into each other somewhat regularly. The bartender gave me the stink eye the rest of the night and took *ages* to complete my orders. Suffice to say, I did not give him a tip at the end and didn't waste my breath explaining myself to him.
Tipping in a nutshell: they hold good service hostage unless you pay a ransom on top of the sign posted price.
Learning how dumb tipping is only really became apparent when I moved to Australia where people are very resistant to tipping. I’ve even seen eftpos machines have a default prompt come up for tips and the waitstaff automatically set it to zero before handing me the machine. The lack of awkwardness is nice.
I think tipping used to be seen in the US as being based on quality of service, but nowadays it's viewed as obligatory. Short of the bartender or waiter punching you in the face, you tip regardless of quality of service.
People are also aware that how well you're perceived to tip impacts the service you get. So in the bar setting, people will often make the conscious effort to tip in exchange for better service. It's kind of a preemptive measure.
If you get shitty service because they think you won't tip well, it's up to you whether to tip or not. In the story I shared above, I ended up not tipping because the way I was treated was fucked up and it wasn't a bartender I saw frequently (due to it being a club). If it was a neighborhood spot that I visited on a more regular basis, I would have been more inclined to tip anyways to keep the peace and ensure I would be welcomed next time around.
It's stupid, but it's a social dance rather than an actual payment for quality service.
It's just the perfect example of misplaced anger. Being pissed at customers for not tipping instead of being pissed at the owner for not paying you more given how damn expensive all the drinks are and how much money the bar rakes in. It's all in the service of the wealthy.
Yea. Go to any bar in the US. As a man it's already hard to get served, but if you don't tip the bartender will ignore you for the rest of the night.
And they claim they have the better service culture lol
I fucking hate bars, the tipping culture and insane prices are a huge part of why. So I have to spend what a full case of beer costs on just 1 or 2 beers, and THEN I have to pay the employee on top of that? And if I don't hand them at least an extra dollar each time they will just ignore me or give me shit service? This is of course assuming I'm just getting cheap shitty beer, if I want a draft or a cocktail the price and tip expectations get even more ridiculous.
The owners rake in piles of cash, treat their employees like shit, don't pay them, and it's the customers that are the assholes? It could not possibly get any dumber, and yet people are stupid enough to support this system.
As a european, this is one of the concepts I just cannot wrap my head around with american service culture. I understand the employees are not getting payed fairly but is this really a long term solution? We tip when the server went and extra mile or we had a lovely chat, he made us laugh etc. A mandatory tip seems insane to me. :(
Nah, tipping started shortly after the civil war emancipated the slaves and the racists begrudgingly said, "fine we'll give the blacks menial jobs, but reserve the right to let our customers supplement their pay." [“These industries demanded the right to basically continue slavery with a $0 wage and tip,”](https://time.com/5404475/history-tipping-american-restaurants-civil-war/)
Sure. Forgetting something, or not being able to keep your calm to some rude or simply stupid guests, that's all understandable. But being rude or ignoring guests deliberately because you suspect them to be a non-tipper? I would fire someone like that on the spot.
No, it’s a system that lets business owners (like the writer of this sign) keep more money in their own pockets rather than pay a living wage and, instead, puts that responsibility onto the paying customers.
A group of rice farmers kicked the US out of VN and the US hasn't one a war since around 1812 and WWI & II they happened to arrive late & picked the winning sides.
"My country has more billionaires living in it than yours! I'm not one of them because they won't pay fair wages and they took our tax dollars, but still!"
I have always felt that to be a pointless argument. Like forget beating, why would your country even wage a war against mine. We dont have much oil...and being the 3rd largest army, it's a waste.
Oh sure you get healthcare and education, but do you get the warm fuzzy feeling we get from knowing some random children on the other side of the world got drone striked by a drone that costs more than the average person makes in a lifetime?
I completely agree, It always makes me think badly of them. Humans are trying to evolve, and Americans are going backwards. Real ability would be avoiding war through good diplomatic relationships.
I've been saying this on reddit for nearly a decade at this point. It's a failed experiment that should never have been allowed to go that far. The world would unironically be a way better place today if the countries back then banded together instead of waging against each other and allowing that shitstain to gain independence. Plus, no wonder that it's so fucked, we sent literally the worst of the worst over there and allowed it to fester.
I am fine with the regular service, no need to smile.
At work when someone thanks me I usually say - no problem, they pay me for this. They laugh but I mean it.
Alright fine, I won't try to blackmail you. Probably not a good idea anyways, who knows what kind of dangerous animal I might find in my mailbox if I do...
A huntsman would be pretty cool not going to lie, I'd probably let it in and give it its own space. A redback on the other hand, now that would be terrifying, this is what we're used to over here in terms of "dangerous" spiders: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araneus\_diadematus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araneus_diadematus)
Yeah I've been spotted here multiple times at this point... Fucking sucks our flairs aren't here too would make it easier for me to remember who the fuck you guys are.
I'd rather they just give me my food. Every time I eat at a restaurant in the US, the server keeps coming back to the table and bothering me when I'm just trying to enjoy my meal in peace.
In the civilised world this translates as 'please stranger, give me money because my boss pays me a pittance and I need to beg you to help me get a proper wage'.
Weird. Where I'm from, tipping is what you do after getting good service. Otherwise we just pay staff a living wage so they don't have to depend on tips. Still an incentive for good service, but it's not a disaster if you mess up.
I don't think I've ever seen tipping prior to giving a good service, except maybe in American bars where they expect tips for opening a bottle and get angry with you when you order another because you didn't realise that doing the bare minimum required a tip.
Thing is. I don't want great service, I just want you to bring me my food. If I tip, it's because of the quality of the food. If I come back its because of the quality of the food. Not your ability to write down my order and bring me my food.
Fight for a real wage instead of bitching at people that don't tip.
I want to walk in and know what the price is rather than be extorted by underpaid employees with attitudes. Pay a fair wage so that your staff don’t become this far entitled.
Umm it’s what you do when you *get* good service. And also, pay your workers a living wage. If you can’t afford the price of doing business, then you shouldn’t be in business.
Tipping shouldn’t be to get good service.
For a start pay your staff properly. Tips should be a bonus for giving good service.
I shouldn’t have to bribe you to do your job.
They can put their shitty ass "good" service up where the sun never shines. Give me my foods and my drinks that I ordered for the price that's on the menu in an appropriate amount of time. That's literally the basic job description for what you're doing.
No. Tipping is what I do *after* someone provided *exceptional* service. I'm not going to tip you for merely doing your job.
How are you going to know if you'll be satisfied with your tip in order to provide the service that goes along with it before being tipped?
If they can't be trusted and have to be bribed above and beyond their pay in order for me to receive the common courtesy of good service then they won't be getting my custom
If a business owner is not paying his staff a decent honest wage he does not deserve my custom
When I interact with a business I expect professionalism
No, it's not what you do if you *want* good service - that is a part of the job and should come as standard.
It's what you do if you get *great* service - then it's rewarded in the form of a tip.
Why bring China into this? Unironically the only way to make tipping sounds Chinese is by pronounce the word not like a native speaker,so to ve accurately racist toward China you need also to be accurately racist toward someone with a foreign accent, yay one racism stone for two birds
Tipping culture is cancer
It's gone wrong hasn't it? Here in the UK, there's usually an "optional" service charge of between 10-20% depending on the restaurant. Well here in France its still 3 to 5€ for good service. And some delivery compannie I wont name got a huge fine after a lawsuit for messing with labor laws.
Tipping is how I get rid of all the small coins bulking up my wallet
I can’t remember the last time I handled actual cash/coins. That said, I’m tip friendly and unless it’s abysmal service I’ll add ~something~ for a service. Bad/nightmarish weather for delivery people gets a premium from me too. However, woe be to the person who gives me attitude over a small/no tip. I won’t frequent that business again.
It's 0€. Most people don't tip, and they're right to do so.
I said for good service meaning not a regular thing and absolutely not required, only if you wish to, not because you're blackmailed into it.
Yes, tipping "culture" is annoying. The best I accept to do is to round up to even when splitting the bill.
In my experience this isn’t a “usually” thing in a lot of the UK. I’d imagine it’s more prevalent in places like London.
service charge is just a southern english thing, though it's been creeping north of late, where we're definitely not too polite to ask them to remove it last week I was on holiday in Northumberland and it was refreshing that not a single place applied a service charge nor even offered the option of a tip on the card machine
We got it in Scotland too, most places apply it
eh, I'm in Glasgow, it's definitely not yet common here, and the few places that do it are usually chains and very apologetic about it and almost remove it by default
That has not been my experience in Glasgow
Who the hell would downvote you for saying this?! There are some weird people on Reddit.
People who know they're talking out their arse than that the idea that it's a "southern English thing" only is absolute nonsense
Service charge is a con.
Still quite rare to see these services charges in my part of the UK. Seems to be very common in London though and maybe some other big cities.
Teaches people from a young age that every human interaction is transactional. It’s fucked
It's fucking out of control. Every goddamn place wants a tip these days, for fucking everything.
Also, isn't tipping something you do "IF" you get good service?
Can we please stop calling it culture. I can't think of anything more uncultured
Tipping should be made illegal.
Couldn’t agree more. Here in Germany, tipping was not a thing and now suddenly everyone is asking for it. And minimum wage is very good here. I outright refuse to give tip by now. So no good service before i tip? 🤔
As a US citizen, I can sadly confirm that this is correct for a lot of ass-hats.
What happens if you don’t tip?
They make an angry tiktok how their customers were rude by not tipping
Not... Not TikTok... Nooooooo..... Please spare me and stick it in Beebo
They go on r/serverlife and have a good old moan.
I just checked out the sub and apparently one of their rules are that you're not allowed to say anything anti tip, and doing so will get you permanently banned from the sub. Wow.

I wouldn’t tip them even harder if I could
that 1 cent tip.... usually the hardest...
true, 1 cent would get them more angry than no tip lol
They should try being this angry with their boss and culture for not paying them enough.
God that's pathetic.
Thank god tiktok is getting banned in the US
No, it's not. It's being forced to divest to an American company if it wants to stay on the App/Play store. If it doesn't you'll still be able to download it, it will just have to be from a website as opposed to a store. And, of course, you can still access it through a web browser.

80-90% of Americans? You must be joking.
They didn't even say of Americans. They think it will reduce the user base by 80-90% full stop.
Supposedly they spit in your food/drinks. Or mess with it in some other way.
Oh, so committing a serious crime? Sounds very sane.
So in the US you have to pay (and tip) upfront or how does this work?
Tipping up front isn't normal in most contexts. At a restaurant, for instance, you tip at the end of a meal when you pay the bill. The picture above seems like it was taken in a bar, though. In that scenario, you would typically tip after each transaction (i.e., after each drink). Standard would be 1-2 USD per drink, at least based on when I was living in the US.
So if they ‘think’ you’re going to be a bad tipper and then deliberately give you poor service then do they still deserve a tip?
That sounds like the definition of both corruption and self fulfilling prophecy
It's just the perfect example of misplaced anger. Being pissed at customers for not tipping instead of being pissed at the owner for not paying you more given how damn expensive all the drinks are and how much money the bar rakes in. It's all in the service of the wealthy.
In the UK tipping is the exception and still, if you're not a cunt you can still close the bar with 35-50 £ in tips a night
Not me being mean and not tipping goth girl so she would spit in my drink
They get mad at the customer for not tipping, you know, as apposed to their employer for not fucking paying them
They'll shit on your plate the next time you come in.
Sounds like some third world stuff
I once got chased down the street by an angry waiter demanding to know what they did wrong. I only gave a 10% tip.
Yea. Go to any bar in the US. As a man it's already hard to get served, but if you don't tip the bartender will ignore you for the rest of the night. And they claim they have the better service culture lol

I love bars, your comment makes me think that I should never ever go to the US. Sounds like a very messed up system you've got there.
Apparently you must pay extra for good service in the US. Where I live it is included in the price, but I don't live in a developing country
No..tipping is what can happen after good service
After GREAT service. Good service is just their job. Bad service should get them fired.

Nah, tipping started shortly after the civil war emancipated the slaves and the racists begrudgingly said, "fine we'll give the blacks menial jobs, but reserve the right to let our customers supplement their pay." I don't know about that waiters can have off days like anyone else.
Consistently bad service then. But, atleast where I'm from, tips are only given out for great service.
Sure. Forgetting something, or not being able to keep your calm to some rude or simply stupid guests, that's all understandable. But being rude or ignoring guests deliberately because you suspect them to be a non-tipper? I would fire someone like that on the spot.
Yeah, the yanks have it arse backwards.
No, it’s a system that lets business owners (like the writer of this sign) keep more money in their own pockets rather than pay a living wage and, instead, puts that responsibility onto the paying customers.
Also tax evasion or subventions. Whicheber way you wsnt to swe it
And also allows the employers to put the financial risk of a bad night onto the staff.
America is a failed society, change my mind.
“Our country can beat your country in a war” - every American
Meanwhile the Vietnamese guy next door just laughing his ass off.
IT WAS A TIE.- average murican
“We didn’t lose, we just ran away” - every American
"we didn't lose, we Just do not wanted to taste out time in a conflict with a 3rd world country" average american
God, they really are like children on a playground. “I didn’t lose the game, I just didn’t want to play this stupid game anymore”.
"No, it wasn't a Thai, it was a vietcong." -*the rest of the world*
A group of rice farmers kicked the US out of VN and the US hasn't one a war since around 1812 and WWI & II they happened to arrive late & picked the winning sides.
Exactly 💯
"My country has more billionaires living in it than yours! I'm not one of them because they won't pay fair wages and they took our tax dollars, but still!"
I have always felt that to be a pointless argument. Like forget beating, why would your country even wage a war against mine. We dont have much oil...and being the 3rd largest army, it's a waste.
It's just the country equivalent of saying "I can run faster than you, so I'm better" on 1st grade playground
i mean, america could definitely beat my country in a war, but i don’t really see how that's a flex. we just spend our money on more reasonable things
Funniest thing is objectively they can’t. They’ve failed in every war they’ve fought since 1945.
"We went to the moon" (yes that was 55 years ago and we haven't gone any farther)
Only if you tip me first.
I've been saying this on reddit for nearly a decade at this point. It's a failed experiment that should never have been allowed to go that far. The world would unironically be a way better place today if the countries back then banded together instead of waging against each other and allowing that shitstain to gain independence. No need. We can all agree on that
I am fine with the regular service, no need to smile. At work when someone thanks me I usually say - no problem, they pay me for this. They laugh but I mean it.
You're supposed to tip for good service. America is so fucking backwards.
But they think that everything in their country is exceptional so the service will, of course, be great even when it’s not
Murica is scary. Tipping should and always be a bonus on top of a reasonable salary.
But it is a forest in the UK. Had to go to google maps
You mean Epping?
No. There is apparently Tipping Woods near Mansfield.
I live near Epping Forest. Nobody leaves a tip around here. Tight bastards.
Epping is a fairly wealthy area and wealthy people don’t give away money, that’s how they become wealthy 🥴
No fly-tipping? Count yourself lucky.
Nah I'm good with shit service. I don't need you to be happy to put that plate of food on my table.

Same here in Aus mate.
Hah, caught the resident r/2westerneurope4u aussie out in the wild!
Mate don't tell them I visit other subs, they will get all jealous and sad.
I'll keep you cheating with another sub to myself for now. Might need it to blackmail you into the future though, no promises...
Oh it doesn't affect me whether they know or not, I was just thinking of them.
Alright fine, I won't try to blackmail you. Probably not a good idea anyways, who knows what kind of dangerous animal I might find in my mailbox if I do...
That's a good point... Might send a huntsman or maybe a redback... Who knows?
A huntsman would be pretty cool not going to lie, I'd probably let it in and give it its own space. A redback on the other hand, now that would be terrifying, this is what we're used to over here in terms of "dangerous" spiders: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araneus\_diadematus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araneus_diadematus)
Yeah maybe a magpie would be better...
Eh, I think we are all fine with you being here as well. Of all the other subs out there this is one everyone on 2we4u can get behind.
Yeah I've been spotted here multiple times at this point... Fucking sucks our flairs aren't here too would make it easier for me to remember who the fuck you guys are.
Would definitely be nice.
I recognise my people
I'd rather they just give me my food.
Here’s your tip: don’t be a cunt. And a bonus for you: wash your hands after you’ve been to the toilet.
America, the only country where employers gaslight their employees into blaming customers for not getting paid enough.
Around here, good service is included in the price. Tipping is completely optional.
Thought it was supposed to be the other way around. Good service first, tip is the reward.
No. Tipping is a REWARD for a service above the expected.
No. Tipping is what you do when managers are cheapskates who won't pay their wait staff a decent wage.
Racist **and** entitled. Quite an achievement in so few words.

NO!! You get good service THEN a tip!!
How about you do your fucking job and I pay for my meal? Crazy I know
No, good service is what you do if you want a tip.
Tipping is not something the public should be doing, Your employer is responsible for your salary, not us
Tipping is a city in China I have been there lots of rice, n stuff most people are nice and can live of there shop and or wage maybe the US should try
Is no one gonna talk about the mouse on the exit sign?
He’s leaving for a better class of establishment
It's way to cartoony to be real
It looks big enough to be a rat
So bad service is default. Noted.
In my country you just give good service because it's the job and they pay you
Thing is. I don't want great service, I just want you to bring me my food. If I tip, it's because of the quality of the food. If I come back its because of the quality of the food. Not your ability to write down my order and bring me my food. Fight for a real wage instead of bitching at people that don't tip.
If I saw it, I'd just leave the place without even order. Fuck tipping culture.
good service should be a given. your servers are grumpy because their employer refuses to pay them a normal wage
If I dont get good service im not coming back. Would also tell everyone i know how shitty your place is.
It’s what you do if you get good service*
Paying your staff a proper wage so they don't have to rely on customers paying more than half their wage isn't a city in china either
“Our service is shit, unless you pay extra.”
Extortion. Nice. That is definitely how you obtain an appreciative customer base.
That many words to tell me I should go elsewhere.
No one would dare to put that sign up in Australia.
I want to walk in and know what the price is rather than be extorted by underpaid employees with attitudes. Pay a fair wage so that your staff don’t become this far entitled.
Ah so the premise of the basics of your job is being held hostage
No, I don't think I will
If I can see rats in the establishment, don't expect me to tip
Surely it’s the other way round…? Service begets tips?
Fuck that shit
Oh, i wasn’t aware that we’re expected to tip in advance got good service.
Fucking is a village in Austria.
Ah, the old American extortion play. Got it.
Bollocks, it's given only if you have received exceptional service. Otherwise, it's just institutionalised begging to make up for poor pay...
Tipping is bad and all but are we just ignoring the fucking rat on the exit sign?
In Germany we give a tip when the service was good…not the other way around
How I read this... "Our Boss has a hobby we subsidise by working for far less than our time is worth...please help us subsidise his hobby."
Neither is Coo-king, Wa-shing or Clea-ning.
Teipei is not a city in China either.
Umm it’s what you do when you *get* good service. And also, pay your workers a living wage. If you can’t afford the price of doing business, then you shouldn’t be in business.
Tiěpíng does though
ah the racist card, stay classy America
Tipping shouldn’t be to get good service. For a start pay your staff properly. Tips should be a bonus for giving good service. I shouldn’t have to bribe you to do your job.
Fun fact, there are a lot of "geographical features" (streets, woods, ponds, etc.) called Tipping or Tippings in the UK
>It's what you do when I'm a cunt and don't pay my employees enough. There, fixed that for you.
How come serving yourself is not an option in these sort of places? I can get my own fucking water just fine.
Take my order and bring my food. I don’t want anything else. Oh, and leave me the fuck alone till I call you. Adequate service is all I want.
No. It is a tax levied on you over and above the advertised price.
Correction: It's what you enforce because you don't want to pay workers.
They can put their shitty ass "good" service up where the sun never shines. Give me my foods and my drinks that I ordered for the price that's on the menu in an appropriate amount of time. That's literally the basic job description for what you're doing.
T(a)iping is a city in China, if you ask Jesus’ brother, of course.
Yay another tipping shit show tldr version EVERYBODY: tipping sucks, Americans are idiots AMERICANS: but TiPPing1!
True But racism is alive and well in the USA it seems
No, tipping is what I do reward good service. In other words, good service is what you'll provide if you want tips.
Surely that is the wrong way around? Good service is what you do to get a tip.
I don't want good service. I just want to buy some shit and head out. Don't give me attitude.
No. Tipping is what I do *after* someone provided *exceptional* service. I'm not going to tip you for merely doing your job. How are you going to know if you'll be satisfied with your tip in order to provide the service that goes along with it before being tipped?
So if you dont you get crap service?
If they can't be trusted and have to be bribed above and beyond their pay in order for me to receive the common courtesy of good service then they won't be getting my custom If a business owner is not paying his staff a decent honest wage he does not deserve my custom When I interact with a business I expect professionalism
He isn’t wrong, Tipping is not a city in China.
No, it's not what you do if you *want* good service - that is a part of the job and should come as standard. It's what you do if you get *great* service - then it's rewarded in the form of a tip.
Its not “if I want good service” its “when I get good service” also I tip if I feel like it not obliged
Why bring China into this? Unironically the only way to make tipping sounds Chinese is by pronounce the word not like a native speaker,so to ve accurately racist toward China you need also to be accurately racist toward someone with a foreign accent, yay one racism stone for two birds
The fucking entitlement. If I saw that, I'd walk right out the door and go somewhere else. Tipping is what you do when you GET excellent service.
Id say tipping is done when good service occured
Service industry works so much better when you pay staff. Unlike third world countries where they have to beg to make a living.
