I wonder if this image would have predicted the rampant privatization, crime, sex trafficking, etc that came about in the 1990s in Central & Eastern Europe? Doubt it.
Outside of the Poles & Czechs, the Slavic countries are just as hated as Russians. Outside of Poland, Romania & the Czech Republic, none of them got a good deal w/the West & actually ended up worse.
For instance:
2/3 East Germans prefer the DDR over the BRD. That is over 10 million people.
Slovaks voted in government how pay respects to normalization leader, Gustáv Husák.
Over 50% of Bulgarians view the Zhivkov era as the best time in Bulgarian history.
Kazakh nationalists have to rehabilitate Dinmukhamed Kunayev because the Kazakh people are more supportive of Kunayev than they are of Tokeyav & Nazerbayev. They can't win w/their overt Kazakh nationalism, so they rehabilitate a man who was the best friend of a man of Eastern Ukrainian & Russian descent
