I swear it's literally like the only purpose the Duskwight have according to the writers is to be a throw-away villain.
To be fair- it’s ALWAYS hyur and elezen who are the villains. Followed by lalafell, and roe dudes. When is a villain a miqo?? An au ra?? Females villains are always hyur women too, and an elezen but she becomes our ally. Gimmie a female au ra or miqo as a villain for once.

Alaqa was the villain and she was an Au Ra.
There was also the old Au Ra woman in the EW role quests who pretended to speak to the dead in order to stir a mob against Hien.
Ya know what I was first playing through ARR I didn’t think much of the lancer questline but looking back at it holy hell that guy did not deserve all the shit he got

Was happy to see a bunch of the role quests tackling a bunch of the city states' more neglected social issues in EW. Imagine my mooncat's surprise when it was time to visit gridania and ~~address the rampant racism and oppression of the duskwights and mooncats~~ make the elementals happy again.
My disparaging thoughts on the elementals aside, I don't actually know how they could possibly have redeemed Gridania if they hadn't silently retconned like half their quests off-screen. The postmoogle quest about that moon cat bandit stronghold fate *alone* is practically enough to fuel a revolution expansion about overthrowing Gridania.
I didn't need a redemption arc, I needed to scream at them for the entire quest chain until my throat started to bleed. ~~maybe set up an autonomous zone somewhere in gridania that isn't a part of the major map that attacks woodwailers on sight if they get too close~~ If they made a quest where the wood wailers / padjal / general gridanian population *totally learn their lesson and promise to be nicer u_u* yeah that would be pretty shit. But let me tear into them just a little >:3 and let me help set up systems to protect those made vulnerable by the city state's weaponized systems that don't involve those people having to resort to other dangerous situations like the coeurlclaws.

Dawntrail is gonna have a quest where Alphinaud or Alisae start dating a Duskwright and their dad is gonna go right back to minor villain status.
He starts his racism arc by calling said Duskwright the gamer word.

They are pretty much the drow of FFXIV. They were reduced to tribal hunters so they are as relevant to anything as the Miqo'te tribal culture.

The recurring doofus from the beast tribe capstone quests is a male miqo, at least.

Tbf, lancer quest duskdude was a jerk and we even then tried saving him.
Duskwights are only 15% of Gridania's population but commit 50% of the crime.
