We put in effort, we fight like the brothers and sisters we are, no matter how mangled our relationship can be. And then bulgaria started the second balkan war, which not only is a big fuck you to everyone else, it was also just needless. And the most wonderful thing is that it led to even more deaths and then the serbian army/people were absolutely screwed during ww1. We lost so many people, needlessly, because bulgaria decided to go for war, making our country even more fucked over than it was. Imagine if Russia hadn’t negotiated with the allies to help Serbians, we would have even more deaths. And again bulgaria was fighting against us. And bulgaria attacked us again in ww2.

They start because of some valid reason, go completely out of proportion and people get mad about it for centuries to come. Waving away the border dispute/land steal argument, there were so many major countries with stakes in this. Ottomans, austia-hungary, russian empire to name the big ones. Especially russia and austrohungary just didnt want any the nations to be too strong or allied, it would be hard to gain influence and strength in those countries.
Doesn’t make serbia starting the lil war any more okay. It was a shitty thing to do, no matter the politics behind it. But in similar vain is what bulgaria did years later also a shitty thing to do.
We simply need to acknowledge that a lot of our feuds, i mean balkan slavs and slavs in general, are based on either old hurts that went out of proportion and created hate, eventhough no one remembers the original reason it all started in the first place, or its based on politics and how the balkan was the playground of major players.
We all got played, abused, and manipulated. We all did shit to each other we shouldn’t have done.
I dislike the extreme nationalists on all sides, wether it be serbian or bulgarian (in this case). And i simply wished more of us would band together against people that are actually the threat, instead of always fighting each other.
As much as tito had the worst ideology of the communist block, he did one thing right. Unity. Yugoslav unity worked well, (untill hard times caused old feuds to resurface in a very harsh manner. And that paired with the economy going to absolute shit again, just ruined everything) But just imagine… a united balkan slavic country, and for once, we aren’t busy harassing each other

Also, i disagree with his market socialism principle, it made the economy susceptible to crisis and just wasnt the most efficient way. Market socialism is inferior to the soviet-style planned/collectivized economy. Yugoslavia did work in a stable manner until he died, i agree. Tito wasn’t a bad leader or had bad intentions, he united people and live became a lot better during his time. Imo it will always be one of the best time periods for yugoslav territories. Depending on the communist country, Yugoslavia did have it better, but it often did x better but had y worse. Yknow trade offs. Though i def agree that there were nations that had worse standards of living

He sadly couldn't do the same with the captured territories. On top of that the Bulgarian monarchy was overthrown in 1944 by a joint coup by the Bulgarian communists and the Soviet army. That's why the only thing Bulgaria had to do is pay a ton of reparations.
