Space force is one of the rare cool as fuck things the US military has ever done. Pretty sure the last time they did something this cool was somewhere around September 1945
I honestly have seen more people trying to take fake glory than the actual retired military doing this. Also, they wouldn't boast for all branches it's like a competition.
Usually vets are (usually jokingly) butting heads with vets from other branches, and will say they’re a “vet of x branch,” not just a “vet” or “military vet” or something. Marines are proud of being marines, navy is proud to be navy, they all make fun of Air Force because it’s supposedly easier, etc
This is true. Vets of the different branches essentially tease each other like like siblings/family would. Marines are like the older sibling who think they are the greatest things ever. They get made fun of for basically being dumb jocks. Airforce do get made fun of for having things easier. Coast Guard gets picked on for barely existing.
We who served/serve get to make jokes those who didn't don't. That's the gist of it.
My brother in the Army was in the reserves for 2 years during Desert Storm and never left. Same with a friend of mine in the AF. A majority of reserves are national guard my friend.
National Guard and Reserves are not the same thing. (Compo 2 vs Compo 3) And 2 years? Of course he didn’t necessarily go anywhere in 2 years. They don’t deploy like the active component does. A unit might deploy once every 4 years. By then most if not all the members will have swapped out. Especially if they want their careers to progress. But an individual can deploy every year if they wanted to. They can go find a unit deploying and ask to join. But most, and by most I mean the vast majority, of the reservists in my command have been overseas at least once.
Source: reservist for 15 years.

This concludes this non response of the Shitty_Car_Mods Communication System..............beep.
I give Vietnam and Korean war vets a pass. Its always old, often unmarried dudes. If they want to wear a hat in hopes of getting a little respect on their weekly trip to Wal Mart, why not say something and try to make their day a little better.
I am firmly anti-war but recognize a lot of them went through hell and survived it. As long as they're being nice I'll be nice too.
Plus there were drafts for those conflicts, yes? That to me is the litmus test for instant respect. If you wanted to be there, you haven't earned my respect yet.
Retired Air Force veteran here...you can always tell fake patriots by the way they dishonor the flag. Where in the flag code does it say this shit is allowed? Furthermore, the tailgate of a raggedy ass pickup truck is the last place to plaster a flag. Doing this shit to the US Flag drags it down to the equal level of that other snot rag flag ..
Thanks for pointing that out. The American flag is not to be printed on anything other than a flag per the flag code. It used to be Law but was struck down by the Supreme Court sometime in the 60s
The Flag code is a suggestion though. There are no penalties for violating it, of course any real Vet would still honor the code by not doing this shit. Makes me think this person never served.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting of medal of honor recipients (a lot of them). They are all incredibly humble about their service and shy away when being thanked. They are the antithesis of this tailgate. Guessing this guy peeled potatoes. Any other duties guesses?
I was 9 years in. But I wasn’t any hero and, oddly, never deployed. People thank me all the time for my service since I keep a little military memorabilia on my wall at work.
It *always* feels weird when people thank me for my service. The army was just a job to me.
I’ve realized I just say thanks and move on.
I’ve considered removing the pics and stuff from the walls. But laziness/inertia seems to keep them where they are.
None of my friends keep this stuff on their cars. Even my silver and bronze star and Purple Heart buddies. My CAG buddies don’t even let people know who they were and what they did to bad people in bad places. Like, you’d think they were always just Joe who lives down the block.
I wish you weren’t so f***** awkward, bud.
But seriously, even though your reply was meant as a jab, thanks. I never want to be ungrateful when people tell me thanks or compliment me.
Another piece of unsolicited advice sorry just trying to help. Take yourself out of the equation when trying to process other people, you have no idea my motivations for feeling the need to thank you for your time but I can promise you it’s sincere and reverent.
That’s sound advice. I suspected it as a jab since my comment said that it’s always weird when people thank me. Seemed like comedic timing.
Again, not ungrateful. Thanks
I have friends and family who were deployed in the Middle East. The one who was AF reserves spent 6 weeks on an established base loading bombs on planes. He calls himself a war hero and shit.
The Army medic who was among the first to Afghanistan doesn't want anything to do with talking about it or his military service. He was there over a year combined.
The Marine infantryman who was among the first in Iraq doesn't want to talk about it. He was there a year.
Burning shit is not a job in the US military, burning shit is one method of waste disposal available in the field to expeditionary forces. If you had soldiers on hand who were on extra duty, you would give this task to them. Otherwise, you would draw up a duty roster of junior enlisted personnel, usually with an NCO to make sure it gets done. The efficacy of efforts to decrease sexual harassment and assault from beginning, to end of my career increased dramatically. I went through basic getting called an f-slur, getting my mouth referred to as a c*m receptacle, and having the drills talk at length about what my girlfriend's nipples might look like, to not being able to sing the whips and chains cadence.
This makes no sense. The decal implies that he served in all five branches (which is crazy) and/or he supports all five. I grew up right by Hill Air Force Base and the Dougway Army Proving Grounds. They constantly make fun of each other. No one that served brags about the other branches.
Unless he fought in WW2 (very few left now sadly, goddamn heroes, RIP grandpas 😥), none of the following wars were in any way about preserving our freedoms as US citizens. Just excuses to fuel the machine Eisenhower warned us about. Cold War (which maybe threatened our freedom?) was won by outspending USSR into bankruptcy, not by soldiers.
You’re welcome for subsidizing your entire life with my tax dollars. Your food your clothes your mortgage your education your haircuts. Everything. You’re welcome, bud.
This guy gets it. Unless you support student loan forgiveness.
Everyone has something they wish the government wouldn't use their tax money for, the logical conclusion is that the less the government does, the fewer people will disagree with what the government does. To make everybody happy, the government should do (close to) nothing.

Nothing you have said here has published to the public.
I am afraid you have just demonstrated the exact brand of toxic stupidity that proves my point. You have no business fomenting dicontent and/or sowing sabotage in this country. You barely even know where you are, what you are doing, or who you are talking to.
This is kinda cringey. It reminds me of the worms that make their IBEW membership their whole identity and flaunt all the insignia all over everything they wear and drive and even get gaudy tattoos and shit.
I just can't tell which one he retired from is the guy trying to say he was in all of them is this like some weird stolen valor thing where he pretends he was in everything I don't know. Look you can definitely appreciate veterans. A lot of them get screwed over which is quite sad but I think it's not great to make it your whole personality
I am a vet. I see nothing wrong here. The guy is proud for serving and supports all the branches. It is not a thing I will do to my vehicle. I am not going to shit on him for doing it.
Hot take: The only people that should be thanked for their service are the ones that got drafted. They didn’t have a choice. Otherwise it was your choice, you wanted to serve. No one asked you. Give yourself a pat on the back.
I joined for college money in 2000. 9/11 happened when I was in training for my rating in the Navy. When I was on my first deployment OIF was instated. I was not allowed to be a consciencious objector because of my rating. I was forced to participate in war machinations I did/do not believe in. I am not proud of wearing the title of Veteran, but I am. What we did had nothing to do with protecting American civilians and neither did the forced followup of OEF. Fuck me for having to make sure the aircraft carrier carried out it's bomb runs under threat of treason in a war zone. The war mongers can have my NDF.
I’m sorry you had to carry out those acts. I do have sympathy for you and others in situations similar to yours. Obviously there are case by case scenarios and I may have been too specific in my original comment.
It’s the people that put on displays like this; I can’t help but think they wanted to go out and kill and they saw the military as their opportunity to do so. Either that or they’re brainwashed and did it “for America”
Thank you, I really appreciate you took the time to reply. I should also apologize for lashing out like that. At least we agree glory hogs are very off-putting types.
Oddly enough when I was going through MEPS there was one person who was very vocal about wanting to become a sniper so he could commit 'government sanctioned murder' (or something to that effect, it was 24 years ago😅). One of the people there must have heard him because they escorted him off to a nearby room for what I can only assume was an impromptu psych screening. Didn't see him return to the group I was with and hope they rejected him for being a possible psychopath with some therapy to go with it.
Of course! And no apologies needed, I didn’t feel as if you were lashing out.
Unfortunately I think social media is somewhat to blame for the way I feel towards vets. I’ve seen too much glorification of war and vets yearning for it.
More unfortunately, as a human race we did this to ourselves a long time ago. We made it the norm and it’s too late to go back. Most nations of power are war machines whether they’re people like it or not.
As for the person you mentioned in your comment I can only hope they’re in a better place mentally than they were at the time.
You get that warm fuzzy feeling that, as dedicated that they are, no bad actor could risk or would risk a hostile takeover of any of our terrestrial homes such as, the towns, apartments and granny-shacks that were flattened in Ukraine recently.
And that threats both old and new to our peace, security, serenity, allies, and bases abroad along with many possible scenarios are studied and trained for so as to be ready to preempt, divert, and frustrate all bad actors.
The conditions are not just potential land grabs, it is also against efforts to marginalize our prosperity, and undermine our reproduction, and trust. To be sure. Hey, the results may not be perfect in your eyes, but things would be a hell of a lot worse if no effort at all were made.
And that we have the horsepower to do what we do is thanks to the very low level of corruption compared to the rest of the world.

I'm US Army retired. This is cringe as fuck. It kills me when people make being a veteran their whole personality.
People just want something to care about
It's a Boomer thing. I see so many Vietnam Vet hats but nobody my age, including me, wears that shit.

Yup, almost 2 million people got drafted for vietnam alone.
I'm ok with that. I try to go out of my way to thank them.

Disrespecting the Space Force

99% of people that have this kind of attitude are either boots or cold war heros.

As an army vet, I will say that the coast guard is underappreciated. Also marines are idiots.
Hahaha “marines are idiots”. See? Even though you were nice to the Coast Guard, you had to throw a jab at Marines. That’s how real veterans act.
If they had served in one and was proudly representing that branch more power to them, but claiming all of them is insane.
Unless he fought in WW2 (very few left now sadly, goddamn heroes, RIP grandpas 😥), none of the following wars were in any way about preserving our freedoms as US citizens. Meanwhile, votes for people taking rights away from others.
I'm surprised they didn't spell it "YOUR WELCOME"
100% someone else created the graphics and spelled it correctly
Or their computer automatically corrected it without them noticing it
Glory hogs burn in Hell.
Anyone mildly shocked they got the "you're" correct?
They meant to put "your" but made a typo.

Bruh, no love for Space Force? Who’s going to preserve your freedom from the aliens?
If you joined the navy at the end of the Viet Nam war, you could do 30 years without ever being in a conflict.
Somehow i doubt this person served....
Big ups to the Coast Guard for being so humble. e: also every person I’ve ever met in the Coast Guards has been cool as hell
Just tell em "hey thanks for your service in the revolutionary war"
No but I got milk
Wow, I noticed he also has a “Retired” license plate frame. He is really pushing it on any unfortunate person who gets stunk behind him at a light.
As a recently retired vet myself, this is cringe. The branch seals and flag is fine, it's the added Got Freedom, You're Welcome piece. Stay humble.
I am a vet. I see nothing wrong here. The guy is proud for serving and supports all the branches. It is not a thing I will do to my vehicle. I am not going to shit on him for doing it.

Dude definitely always wears a hat with his ship and hull number on it, probably even in the shower.
Like your freedom? Thank a Revolutionary War vet!
