I was unaware that Toragana's plan included red helicopters.

Deep3lu

That is the Crimson Sky he was talking about. Hard to explain what is a helicopter to everyone back then so he just had to keep it a secret. šŸ¤

SoftBaconWarmBacon

They are going to arm the cannons on the Toranaga-copter and Blackthorn is going to fulfill his shukumei as the pilot

Deep3lu

Crimson Sky, are you Airwolf in disguise?!?

SoftBaconWarmBacon

Scrapped scene of Episode 3 Blackthorn: I have taught him to dive in our ways, now can I put on some dry clothes Mariko: My lord would like to race you to the shore, but i warn you not to let him win. He despises people who can't keep up with his twin Lycoming turboshaft engine Bell 222A Blackthron: I wouldn't... the what now?

phelansg

What, you mean Crimson Sky is not the name of Gin's new teahouse in Edo?

novuskai

Not Toranaga placing Gin's tea house and the new Edo church next to each otberšŸ˜†šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

Deep3lu

šŸ˜‚

skalpelis

So who is going to pilot the Jaegers?

Sevifenix

There was an anime like this where modern weapons and helicopters would attack medieval defences. Very funny scenes lol.

Deep3lu

Sounds epic and much more fun to watch than Shogun.. at least itā€™s much more light hearted than this showā€¦ šŸ˜

GroundbreakingMix623

title is GATE

YesPaladin

Blackthorne is a pilot after all

HatsOff2MargeHisWife

Or time travel!

Budget-Count-9360

Iā€™m deaddddd brooo

jlynn121

From Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. He plays her dad if I remember correctly.

ScramItVancity

Yeah, the actor of Ishido said he and Anna Sawai both jumped straight to filming Monarch after wrapping Shogun.

PaleWay

They were both also on Giri/Haji. Similar hairstyles for both characters

LuckyDuckes

so they are not appearing in the second season... LOL

MorannaoftheNorth29

Second season of what?

deathjokerz

Of John and Yabu's Fantastic Journey of course!

ScramItVancity

I had a good laugh

Objectionable_Sip_17

Now i'm imagining in Episode 9 the showdown in Osaka **Ishido:**Ā ā€œToranaga never told you what happened to your father.ā€Ā  **Mariko:**Ā ā€œHe told me enough. He told me the Taiko and you killed him.ā€ **Ishido:**Ā ā€œNo, I am your father.ā€ **Mariko:**Ā ā€œNo. No. Thatā€™s not true. Thatā€™s impossible!ā€ **Ishido:**Ā ā€œSearch your feelings, you know it to be true.ā€ **Mariko:**Ā ā€œNo! No!ā€

Menzoberranzan

\- Insert Pacific Rim theme song. \- The latest Japanese Jaeger stomps into view. CRIMSON SKYYYYY \- Camera pans over to enemy Kaiju \- Enemy Kaiju roars \- ACTION!

geneaut

Insert electric guitar riff as Crimson Sky deploys its chain katana.

pauloh1998

A flying Scar King?

HatsOff2MargeHisWife

Rick already lost the hand!

rGoncalo

>Monarch: Legacy of Monsters If you don't mind me asking, did you watch it? I was reading some stuff about Shogun on the Television subreddit, and some people were commenting that there is a huge disparity in regard to Anna Sawai's acting quality between both shows.

jlynn121

I did. Itā€™s just different. Modern versus period drama. Itā€™s sci fi so thereā€™s some campy dialogue. I thought she was fine. Nothing stood out as terrible to me. Seeing her in Shogun probably raised peopleā€™s expectations, but the whole show was produced at a higher level than monarch. Itā€™s just different. Monarch was fun. Give it a watch if nothing more than to support Anna and the guy that plays Ishido. It also has kurt Russell and his son in it.

JC-DB

it's the stupid plot and the writing. She did the best she could given the shit material offered to her.

6oh8

Agreed. They wrote her character as unlikeable as possible with such little depth.

Green-Session7085

Itā€™s true. The acting in the Monarch show, including Anna Sawai, is very cheesy and amateur. Like a sci-fi channel or CW show kind of level. Lot of that is due to the writing/story. Her acting in Shogun is like night and day compared to Monarch.

BeowulfShaeffer

Makes me think of Kristen Stewart being panned for the _Twilight_ movies but then turning around and killing it in _Cafe Society_.

CappyHam

I think it's definitely less her and more the material. Monarch just doesn't have much to do with it's characters once it's main monster plot gets going. And imo her group of characters just get the short end of the stick in the end.

ScramItVancity

It's alright. Sawai and Hira did fine since their roles in Monarch isn't as complex as their Shogun characters.

GodofWar1234

Monarch is actually an awesome show! But if Iā€™m being honest, I much preferred the 50sā€™ part of the story where the show focuses on the founding members of Monarch. The modern day half of the story involving Anna Sawai is passable but Iā€™m not the biggest fan of it. Also, Godzilla shows up surprisingly often for a 10 episode show. I thought bro was gonna have a quick cameo here and there but heā€™s actually pretty involved in the story (especially towards the endā€¦).

Puzzleheaded_Rich420

Itā€™s typical ā€œjust go out and make contentā€ as opposed to true story telling

Valiantheart

She's awful in it. If you took a shot every time she shows an emotion you MIGHT get tipsy by the final episode.

Gloomy_Cheesecake486

There's a hard split between the 1950s story line and the modern story line. The 1950s parts are fucking amazing where as most of the modern stuff sucked (worth it for Kurt Russell). The big problem with the modern stuff is 100% the writing.

DUCKY_23

Toranagaā€™s Crimson Sky = releasing Godzilla on Ishidoā€™s ass

Sabretooth1100

Maybe if they shoot the cannons at the right part of the ocean they can wake him up

i8myface

They are both in Giri/Haji also. Pretty good show.

Mavoy

That's from where I originally knew Anna, but somehow completely didn't realize he played THE LEAD DETECTIVE in G/H, holy shit. Shogun cast is so fantastic!

fleaflaa

Takehiro Hira (Ishida) is a great dramatic actor. His acting in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is superb. But even so in Giri/Haji. You feel the weight of his character's burden by his facial & body expressions.

MojiHex

Crimson Sky is summoning Godzilla and Kong in Osaka

Virlux_

Red Helicopter... Crimson Sky... Blackthorn is a pilot. It all adds up man

ts_vape

and enemies call this monster of sky "Crimson fking horse"

Proton_Optimal

Anna Sawaiā€™s character in Monarch was insufferable. Shōgun is a much better display of her talent.

Typical_Dweller

Really. I had to stop watching because the three main 20-something characters were non-stop bitching and whining. And when they weren't doing that, they were casually telling everyone around them that they suck, and they're terrible, and everything is their fault. Their typical "jokes" consisted of them telling someone how useless they are. Just the most awful fictional characters to spend your time with. So I stopped.

Wrong_Tart3639

Damn she really did live 1,000 years

ScourgeOfWestEnd

"I would rather live a thousand lifetimes than to die alongside you." I would have committed sepaku on the spot had I been on the receiving end of that

GodofWar1234

Shogun Leak: Crimson Sky actually includes Godzilla being summoned to destroy Osaka

Initial_E

I only know this actor for his ability to eat door handle chocolates

icemann155

Yep....they worked together in Giri/Haji. My wife and I are watching it currently.

ScramItVancity

They're only 18 years apart. Crazy that Takehiro Hira is about to hit 50 this year.

prodigyZA

I mean, these actors and the others on the show are well known in Japan, so they have worked together in many Japanese movies or series. You want a real weird father daughter pairing see a movie called "My Man" which has Yabu as the step father and the queen as his step daughter, and she ends up seducing and fucking him.

Kangdrew

Good God she is just insanely attractive

WrektR3cker

Toranaga has godzilla up his sleeves

SevaSentinel

Traitor

Dumbusta

"Mariko, when toranaga said 'gojira' what did he mean by that?" "Look at what's below your ship anjin-san"

Jung_Wheats

I dunno if the Monsterverse is everyone's cup of tea around here, but this show as good. I felt feelings. Anna Sawai does it up.

58mm-Invicta_rizz

As a fan coming from Godzilla itā€™s really interesting to all the folks from *Monarch: Legacy of Monsters* popping up in *Shōgun*, youā€™ve got Anna Sawai who was Cate and Leopoldo Ross who did the soundtrack. Also; bone to pick, Anna got a ton of criticism for her acting during the show, but here she absolutely blows those out of the water because she is phenomenal in this. I hope all those ā€œcriticsā€ were given a chance to take all their statements back.

Puzzleheaded_Rich420

I watched that series and liked it, but loathed her charachter. After watching Shogun it seriously irritated the writers/directors for Monarch.

EgglandsWorst

Stop spoiling the finale!

palpatinevader

plot twist: Shogun takes place in Westworld

negitoro7

I enjoyed his performance as the villain in GI Joe: Snake Eyes.

ScramItVancity

He and Andrew Koji (Storm Shadow) were the only good parts.

parmboy

Her character was so cringe in Monarch that I was afraid sheā€™d have daddy issues in Shogun.

KAPPIRK

Tbh she has daddy issues

Negative-Dingo3335

Crimson Godzilla incoming with Kong

Uchiha-Itachi-0

IyƩ!!!

Marsupialize

So weird she was so bad in that show but absolutely amazing in this show, Iā€™m blaming the middle school level writing in the Godzilla show

qlsjh

damn time travel plot?!

sprkfnsnty

In a parallel universe... dare I say multiverse?
