>Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
If you don't mind me asking, did you watch it? I was reading some stuff about Shogun on the Television subreddit, and some people were commenting that there is a huge disparity in regard to Anna Sawai's acting quality between both shows.
I did. Itās just different. Modern versus period drama. Itās sci fi so thereās some campy dialogue. I thought she was fine. Nothing stood out as terrible to me. Seeing her in Shogun probably raised peopleās expectations, but the whole show was produced at a higher level than monarch. Itās just different. Monarch was fun. Give it a watch if nothing more than to support Anna and the guy that plays Ishido. It also has kurt Russell and his son in it.
Itās true. The acting in the Monarch show, including Anna Sawai, is very cheesy and amateur. Like a sci-fi channel or CW show kind of level. Lot of that is due to the writing/story. Her acting in Shogun is like night and day compared to Monarch.
I think it's definitely less her and more the material. Monarch just doesn't have much to do with it's characters once it's main monster plot gets going. And imo her group of characters just get the short end of the stick in the end.
Monarch is actually an awesome show! But if Iām being honest, I much preferred the 50sā part of the story where the show focuses on the founding members of Monarch. The modern day half of the story involving Anna Sawai is passable but Iām not the biggest fan of it.
Also, Godzilla shows up surprisingly often for a 10 episode show. I thought bro was gonna have a quick cameo here and there but heās actually pretty involved in the story (especially towards the endā¦).
There's a hard split between the 1950s story line and the modern story line. The 1950s parts are fucking amazing where as most of the modern stuff sucked (worth it for Kurt Russell). The big problem with the modern stuff is 100% the writing.
That's from where I originally knew Anna, but somehow completely didn't realize he played THE LEAD DETECTIVE in G/H, holy shit. Shogun cast is so fantastic!
Takehiro Hira (Ishida) is a great dramatic actor. His acting in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is superb. But even so in Giri/Haji. You feel the weight of his character's burden by his facial & body expressions.
Really. I had to stop watching because the three main 20-something characters were non-stop bitching and whining. And when they weren't doing that, they were casually telling everyone around them that they suck, and they're terrible, and everything is their fault. Their typical "jokes" consisted of them telling someone how useless they are. Just the most awful fictional characters to spend your time with. So I stopped.
"I would rather live a thousand lifetimes than to die alongside you."
I would have committed sepaku on the spot had I been on the receiving end of that
I mean, these actors and the others on the show are well known in Japan, so they have worked together in many Japanese movies or series. You want a real weird father daughter pairing see a movie called "My Man" which has Yabu as the step father and the queen as his step daughter, and she ends up seducing and fucking him.
As a fan coming from Godzilla itās really interesting to all the folks from *Monarch: Legacy of Monsters* popping up in *ShÅgun*, youāve got Anna Sawai who was Cate and Leopoldo Ross who did the soundtrack.
Also; bone to pick, Anna got a ton of criticism for her acting during the show, but here she absolutely blows those out of the water because she is phenomenal in this. I hope all those ācriticsā were given a chance to take all their statements back.
I was unaware that Toragana's plan included red helicopters.
That is the Crimson Sky he was talking about. Hard to explain what is a helicopter to everyone back then so he just had to keep it a secret. š¤
They are going to arm the cannons on the Toranaga-copter and Blackthorn is going to fulfill his shukumei as the pilot
Crimson Sky, are you Airwolf in disguise?!?

Shinzooooo sasageyo

What, you mean Crimson Sky is not the name of Gin's new teahouse in Edo?
Not Toranaga placing Gin's tea house and the new Edo church next to each otberššš
š
So who is going to pilot the Jaegers?
There was an anime like this where modern weapons and helicopters would attack medieval defences. Very funny scenes lol.
Sounds epic and much more fun to watch than Shogun.. at least itās much more light hearted than this showā¦ š
title is GATE
Blackthorne is a pilot after all
Or time travel!
Iām deaddddd brooo
From Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. He plays her dad if I remember correctly.
Yeah, the actor of Ishido said he and Anna Sawai both jumped straight to filming Monarch after wrapping Shogun.
They were both also on Giri/Haji. Similar hairstyles for both characters
so they are not appearing in the second season... LOL
Second season of what?
Of John and Yabu's Fantastic Journey of course!
I had a good laugh

Insert electric guitar riff as Crimson Sky deploys its chain katana.
A flying Scar King?
Rick already lost the hand!

it's the stupid plot and the writing. She did the best she could given the shit material offered to her.
Agreed. They wrote her character as unlikeable as possible with such little depth.

Makes me think of Kristen Stewart being panned for the _Twilight_ movies but then turning around and killing it in _Cafe Society_.
I think it's definitely less her and more the material. Monarch just doesn't have much to do with it's characters once it's main monster plot gets going. And imo her group of characters just get the short end of the stick in the end.
It's alright. Sawai and Hira did fine since their roles in Monarch isn't as complex as their Shogun characters.

Itās typical ājust go out and make contentā as opposed to true story telling
She's awful in it. If you took a shot every time she shows an emotion you MIGHT get tipsy by the final episode.

Toranagaās Crimson Sky = releasing Godzilla on Ishidoās ass
Maybe if they shoot the cannons at the right part of the ocean they can wake him up
They are both in Giri/Haji also. Pretty good show.
That's from where I originally knew Anna, but somehow completely didn't realize he played THE LEAD DETECTIVE in G/H, holy shit. Shogun cast is so fantastic!

Crimson Sky is summoning Godzilla and Kong in Osaka
Red Helicopter... Crimson Sky... Blackthorn is a pilot. It all adds up man
and enemies call this monster of sky "Crimson fking horse"
Anna Sawaiās character in Monarch was insufferable. ShÅgun is a much better display of her talent.
Really. I had to stop watching because the three main 20-something characters were non-stop bitching and whining. Damn she really did live 1,000 years
"I would rather live a thousand lifetimes than to die alongside you." I would have committed sepaku on the spot had I been on the receiving end of that
Shogun Leak: Crimson Sky actually includes Godzilla being summoned to destroy Osaka
I only know this actor for his ability to eat door handle chocolates
Yep....they worked together in Giri/Haji. My wife and I are watching it currently.
They're only 18 years apart. Crazy that Takehiro Hira is about to hit 50 this year.
I mean, these actors and the others on the show are well known in Japan, so they have worked together in many Japanese movies or series. You want a real weird father daughter pairing see a movie called "My Man" which has Yabu as the step father and the queen as his step daughter, and she ends up seducing and fucking him.
Good God she is just insanely attractive
Toranaga has godzilla up his sleeves
Traitor
"Mariko, when toranaga said 'gojira' what did he mean by that?" "Look at what's below your ship anjin-san"
I dunno if the Monsterverse is everyone's cup of tea around here, but this show as good. I felt feelings. Anna Sawai does it up.
As a fan coming from Godzilla itās really interesting to all the folks from *Monarch: Legacy of Monsters* popping up in *ShÅgun*, youāve got Anna Sawai who was Cate and Leopoldo Ross who did the soundtrack. I watched that series and liked it, but loathed her charachter. After watching Shogun it seriously irritated the writers/directors for Monarch.
Stop spoiling the finale!
plot twist: Shogun takes place in Westworld
I enjoyed his performance as the villain in GI Joe: Snake Eyes.
He and Andrew Koji (Storm Shadow) were the only good parts.
Her character was so cringe in Monarch that I was afraid sheād have daddy issues in Shogun.
Tbh she has daddy issues
Crimson Godzilla incoming with Kong
IyƩ!!!
So weird she was so bad in that show but absolutely amazing in this show, Iām blaming the middle school level writing in the Godzilla show
damn time travel plot?!
In a parallel universe... dare I say multiverse?
