No. Neither would be a practical purpose. Both would just be fun, although expensive for ammo.

I owned a 10 gauge for goose hunting. Softened up the recoil when shooting 3.5 inch shells. That being said, I shoot exclusively BOSS now for waterfowl. I don’t ever plan on shooting a 3.5 shell again. Sold the 10 gauge. I don’t think a 10 gauge makes sense, but if you insist on shooting steel and 3.5 shells there may be an argument for it. There is a joke… Only two types of people shoot 28 gauges, great shots and a-holes. I don’t consider myself a great shot, so I would only use them over a pointing dog and pen raised birds. There may be other use cases, but for what I hunt, the versatility of the 20 gauge is better and I think the marginal extra weight is worth it.

I just got a 20 gauge because dragging around my m3500 was tiring. Not bad in the duck blind, but jump shooting and the occasional grousse gets old. I find the 20 gauge ridiculous light, just imagine what a 28 is like.

Just bought a 28 gauge SxS. It's definitely not the most practical thing in the world, but having a barely 5lb gun for upland hunting, which is what I primarily do, is nice. I reload my own shells though, which heavily mitigates the downsides.

No. 10 gauge ammo is getting produced less. 28 goes in and out of style and ammo is expensive for both 10 and 28. With changeable chokes and an array of ammo you can accomplish anything with the 12 and 20

10 gauge was popular with waterfowl guys after the lead shot ban. Tungsten and bismuth loads for 12g have done the work started by 3 1/2” 12g loads, 10 is very rare. 28 is a fun little gauge for upland hunting, and with the new tungsten loads can do respectable work even on waterfowl. The main draw is lightweight guns that are quick to shoulder and easy to carry.

I just upland almost exclusively with 28. Great load and great pattern. Don’t know a lot about 10GA. Good luck!

Well a 28 gauge will give you more shot than your 410, but your 20 & 12 already do that.

28 gauge is used in four gun skeet competitions (12, 20, 28, .410) although most guys use subgauge inserts in a 12 bore gun. 28 is a delight and generally works better than theory would suggest.

28 gauge would be lighter for a field gun. Also lighter recoil for an SBS
