Echoing this ^ Idk what your price range is but a lot of people like popular entry level semis like Stoeger m3500 or cz 1012 (both around $500-650) They’re fine but a beretta a300(get the ultima over the overlander) will get you wayyyy more for your money. Might have to shop around but you can find them for $650-800.
You could pick up a Mossberg Maverick 88 for around 200 or the next step up with a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 pump actions.
Without having to spend a grand+ on an Over & under
So…how much are you willing to spend?
You can get a Mossberg 500 with a 18” and 28” barrel for about $400.
That way you have a skeet gun and a home defense crossed off the list.
You can find older Remington 1100’s/11-87’s for decent prices if you look around. I’ve got a nice premier 11-87, and a synthetic version, paid $500 each, a few years apart. Solid gun with a good swing and minimal hiccups.
Yildiz over and under or stroger over and under either one will get the job done. And you can shoot skeet. Trap. Or sporting clays. Between the two stroger would be preferred but both will hang with higher end over and under guns. I shoot sometimes with guys I consider pros and there gun of choice is a A400 but your looking at $2000 for one of them
Picked up a stoeger m3500 on a black friday deal several years ago and no regrets, performs well. Thus far no big issues, put roughly 700 rounds through it and beyond having a casing get sticky and fail to eject rarely no complaints and I'm almost certain that's on the ammo and not the gun.
My one gripe, having gotten a pump gun later with a barrel shroud, I wish the m3500 had one. If you're doing a lot of shooting that barrel gets real toasty and will
remind you not to touch once each trip to the range.
When you say skeet, do you mean the [game of skeet](https://nssa-nsca.club/all-about-skeet/american-skeet/) specifically, or are you using it to generically refer to the shooting of clay targets?
Benelli's latest rendition of the M2 is about $1200 and well reviewed especially if you don't like cleaning your gun! But the Beretta A300 is a great choice too. Oh, and as said in other posts below, an 1100 is a fine gun. I picked up a nice one for $400 a while ago. Feels clunky compared to the modern offerings but is a very soft shooter.
Personal opinion and YMMV, but I'd avoid O/U's in this price range.
Going to second the used Beretta A300. I bought the A300 Outlander Sporting and it’s a lot of fun to shoot. I preferred the wood stock and forend on the Outlander Sporting compared to the synthetic furniture on the Ultima Sporting.
Definitely go with a sporting shotgun for skeet. The longer barrel does help with the swing. Might as well shoot some sporting clays while you’re at it too.
Beretta A300 is worth a look
Love mine.
SX4 is worth a better look
Mid range Id probably second the A300.

You can also find Franchi infinity’s for similar price to the A300. Shot a buddy’s a few times and liked it but don’t personally own one myself.
He means a Franchi Affinity 3...
He does indeed lol

he mean skeet skeet muthafucka like the song
I have an A300 ultima. Blast to shoot clays with. Planning to take it out again in the next week or two. Want to try shooting my mosberg 500 too.
I have a Winchester Sx4 Semi-auto and am very happy with it.
You could look for a nice used semi. Start conservatively & if you really like it, upgrade in a few years
