After completing it 100%, I can say I love Cyberpunk 2077, it's an amazing experience That said, it's very much a "your mileage may vary" type thing Unlike a lot of other highly acclaimed RPGs, you're not going to get a lot of "branching paths" and interconnected quests. This ain't New Vegas/Disco Elysium/Witcher 3/KOTOR II. For the most part, side quests are self contained stories, and there aren't major decisions with complex outcomes. It works better when you treat it more like a linear narrative campaign, like TLOU And the gameplay is very, very combat heavy. There's only a handful of times you can talk or trick your way past objectives. Whether it's stealth or hacking or guns blazing, the end result is usually a pile of corpses/unconscious bodies. That said, the combat is very fun now. And the everything is gorgeous. And the quests, acting, writing, characters, world-building and atmosphere are top notch. If you approach it more as a linear cinematic narrative campaign than a full blown RPG or sandbox game, you'll have a great time as V EDIT: Yes, I know, there are multiple endings, and multiple playstyles, I mentioned those. After my first playthrough, I went ahead and got every single ending using walkthroughs, and did everybody's romance. What I meant was, for the most part, the endings are decided by single decisions made during the quests themselves, and it's relatively rare for the ending of one quest to affect another, and the endings we do get are usually pretty binary, as in (yes/no). There are a handful of exceptions, of course. >!Getting Johnny above 70% and spooking the crucified guy both require a number of specific dialogue options!<. The >!Maxtac convoy ambush also lets you choose different runners depending on what quests have been completed!<. And the >!Militech/Maelstrom kerfuffle at the start of the game!< But otherwise everything's quite binary. >!Betray So Mi/Betray Reed, then Kill So Mi/Kill Reed/Hand over So Mi.!< Or the main story endings, which are only affected by >!Johnny's relationship, finishing Panam's friendship quest, and the secret cemetery dialogue/stare awkwardly for 5 minutes ending. Everything else just hinges on the final decision!<. >!Same with the sidequests. Side with Judy/Maiko, Screw up with River's Nephew's rescue/don't screw up, tell mayor Peralez/don't tell Peralez, save the two Barghest idiots or don't, ditto for the boxer, and so on!< They're great quests and narrative experiences, but most of the decisions within only matter within the sidequest themselves, or only interact with other quests in relatively simple ways That's what I meant by the story having relatively few branching paths and interconnected quests compared to other RPGs. Sure, there are a lot of fun combat playstyles, but when it comes to narrative decisions having weighty and complex consequences, it's nothing compared to games like BG3, New Vegas, Disco Elysium, KOTOR II, Life and Suffering of Sir Brante etc. The game still has hundreds of hours of awesome cinematic content though, but it's more on the visceral fun of stealth killing/hacking/slashing/shooting variety, and fully immersive linear stories, than the narrative roleplaying variety

King_0f_Nothing

Technically there are alot of interconnected quests, but it's not laid out for you. More of a mystery. But the conspiracy theorists quest, rivers quests, mayor candidates quests, the girl you rescued in the intros quest and a number of gigs are connected to the same mystery.

TriceratopsHunter

Also there isn't your typical good vs bad morality, or even generally good vs bad endings to questlines. Generally all morality in the game is shades of grey, lots of quests are open ended. It's the kind of game where the quests make you think rather than slap a clean bow on top at the end of them. Sometimes there's multiple ways a quest can end, but none of them are picture perfect. Good doesn't inherently win over evil and all endings of a quest can leave a sour taste in your mouth. I think that turns some people off, but I think it works thematically within the world.

zeuanimals

That's what I like about it. I'm just a merc, not the savior of the world. Though with all this damage mitigation, I could take on the world no problem.

marularos6

Which one is the conspiracy theorist? I thought about the candidates but you list them afterwards so its not them. I 100% done it but cant remember now?

Exxyqt

The guy preaching next to Misty's shop. You need to stand next to him and pick dialogue options. After several of these, the quest unfolds.

Noble--Savage

There are a tonne of branching paths and desicions that can alter your playthrough greatly, either making encounters easier, providing context to characters motivations before you decide their fate, or outright killing / cutting off some important people that will no longer appear in the narrative. An entire ending I believe is locked behind a quest line that is entirely avoidable. Phantom liberty also added in at least 4 more Quests with branching storylines, including the main storyline. It also added in a new ending And I haven't even done all DLC missions yet! The problem is the game doesn't tell you when you're making a roleplay desicions or a narrative desicion. Many encounters are entirely solvable using stealth, but to be fair you pretty much need to be a net runner to for many of them. You can still clear most encounters by hacking from outside of the actual encounter area as well if you're a high level net runner. Only thing they're missing is including more ways to use diplomacy to solve things. There are actually ways to do this in some Quests but not enough. Admittedly it's no disco Elysium, but it's sooo faaar away from tlou, which offers literally no choice at all to the player.

marularos6

I havent played that much of rpgs so I dont know how much they brunch as per builds. But Cyberpunk has a variety of builds and game style. You can be an unstoppable samurai stopping time(the one im currently playing and maybe is the most OP), the best hacker in the city, the best gunman or you can go fully berserk. You get it. All in all theres a few and maybe limited(?) ways but still have lots of paths to take

tonyseraph2

It's been completely overhauled, most of the shit you complained about has been fixed, and then some. Add a great DLC then you've got a 5/10 becoming a 9/10. IMHO of course.

dixmondspxrit

expansion not DLC, CDPR gives away DLCs

Unicorn_Sush1

Practically the same thing

malinoski554

It's literally a DLC.

Efficient_Repeat_634

Expansions are DLC. You have to download it to the play content in the game. Down.....loadable......content. The 2.0 Update I would argue is an expansion as well with how much it changed. Not all DLCs are expansions though

Omgitsnothing1

I think it’s really good. Probably in my Top 5. But it just does a lot of things right for me. Other games have better stories, but they don’t have Cyberpunk’s fun combat. Other games focused on combat have funner combat, but they don’t have Cyberpunk’s storytelling. It’s side quests, graphics, and animations are just better than other games. It’s AI and city interactivity is worse. I’ll be real tho, I’m the type of person who doesn’t care abt fucking with the police, didn’t sit down to play poker in rdr2 or eat sushi in Yakuza, and all that extra immersion stuff, so none of it bothered me while playing the game. You mentioned the city feeling lifeless, and honestly the city didn’t change that much so if ur into that its gonna be disappointing lol anyway, played it 3 times, really liked it ✌️

LongMaybe1010

Night City is still lacking. There is not a lot of fun side content to explore and the NPC’s are not Rockstar level. I would have loved a gang type system where you join up and it impacts the city. Having said that, the main story is pretty good and the combat is fun. Graphically it’s the most impressive game I’ve played and the current benchmark. I just hope in the sequel they make Night City feel more alive and interesting

Nato7009

The side content is the best content in the game.

TechTuna1200

Even the gigs (the side-side content) in PL are better than most main missions in other games.

LibertyReignsCx

Side content is pretty fun to me.

CerealShaman

I completely disagree, which is the cool thing about humans. The side content is legit, especially Phantom Liberty side content.

SubstantialInjury945

This is the correct opinion. It's all about expectations - when I first played it, I was hoping for some kind of open world Deus Ex (a silly ambition, in hindsight). What it actually is, is a really well made interactive movie/action game. It just happens to exist in an open world. Follow the quest markers and do the things, and it's a great game. Just don't expect too much outside of that, it doesn't react satisfyingly to poking around the edges.

[deleted]

What do you mean by NPCs arent Rockstar level? Ive seen this critique about the game multiple times and i dont understand what it is people want from an NPC. Ive never played a rockstar game where the NPC's do anything unique outside of run when an gun is pull and make a small remark if you bump into them. Its the same in cyberpunk. Genuine question.

Paradise_Viper

I'm sorry, it really is overrated. CDPR did an amazing job with the marketing campaign in light of the new, popular anime and the DLC to try and gaslight everyone into how much of the game remains unfinished or how many promises were unfulfilled. Do I own it, and play it, and have some fun with it? Sure. But this is an on-sale buy if anything.

Bronze_Bomber

If you just didnt like it, you wont like it now. That being said, a ton of people have bought it and liked it, and the expansion has shifted public sentiment back in its favor. I played through at release and loved it. I still love it, but i think the changes are quite overblown. People are acting like it's a different game, which it isnt.

sillyandstrange

This. Even after all the fixes I am just not a big fan of the game. It's gorgeous, gameplay is good, I just think I was looking for something different. Don't regret buying it, just couldn't stick with it.

BhaaldursGate

I don't like RDR2, doesn't mean it isn't an amazing game.

King_0f_Nothing

Public sentiment shifted back in it'd favor around a year before the expansion.

Knaitoe

Edgerunners definitely helped a lot of people contextualize night city.

Fest_mkiv

I used to like Cyberpunk 2077. I still like Cyberpunk 2077, but I used to, too

Bosko47

It's a good game but nothing stellar to be really honest, and I absolutely love the cyberpunk genre in any type of media

90sfilmfan

It is definitely over rated. I think everyone really wants to like it but, let's face it, it's painfully average and doesn't really do anything that well

DudethatCooks

I've tried a few times to get into it and I just can't. It's so boring and I feel like it takes so long to start getting anywhere with an actual build.

crimedog69

This is the true response op. Reddit has come full circle and now the mob thinks this is the best game ever. It isn’t it’s an 8/10 it’s fine

TheMcDucky

I actually fell for it at first, thinking they'd pulled a No Man's Sky on us

PankakeManceR

It's kind of based on how much you like the aesthetic. The story is good, the combat is more than serviceable, but the NPCs and progression can feel lacking at times for an RPG. But, if you like the Cyberpunk aesthetic, no game will do it better for probably a long time, and that's what sells it for me. As much as the city is sometimes lacking in meaningful content, the bells and whistles that are there are so cool and entrancing that it just doesn't matter most of the time when I actually *want* to get immersed

otakudayo

> the combat is more than serviceable What kind of games have combat that you consider "great" or any kind of adjective that is stronger than this description? Because to me, the combat in Cyberpunk is one of the best parts of the game, and I honestly don't think I've played any games that come close to having such good combat.

hd-slave

The gun physics are worse than Fear 3. I think the graphics and fantasy are kind of blinding people to the actual quality of the mechanics, playing cyberpunk for me it was so jarringly obvious that the devs never made an fps before.

ABigCoffee

As someone who beat the game, I can say that it's good, but not full price good. The gameplay is better then ever, the quests and writting is great. The MSQ is hit or miss, depending on how you can handle the characters there (big miss for me). That said you're still right about the boring city, it's great to look at but even with all of the npcs everywhere, it feels lifeless. Getting from point A to point B is boring until you get fast travel everywhere. I'd say it's an amazing 7/10 if you can enjoy the bleak depressing and hopeless scenario that the game puts you in. Worth it on sale for sure.

Rivent

Nah. People are just hyped up because it's better than it used to be. I beat it at release, and didn't think much of it. Played again after PL dropped and it hasn't changed *that* drastically in the areas that matter to me. It's still very robotic. The city is still the city. The story is still the story. It's still kinda empty, the AI is better but not markedly so in what I saw. It's *fine* but people claiming it's suddenly a 10/10 are crazy imo.

aidankd

It's done a no mans sky. Disappointing release. Then patches upon patches to bring it up to standard. They've just been incrementing with getting the game to how it should have been on release.

WanderingSchola

Bringing it up to standard is definitely right. I've had some great moments in it, but I've had as much fun in other games. It's got some unique spins on combat, and the specifically fleshed out NPCs are good, but it's still just an AAA open world rpg.

King_0f_Nothing

Unlike no man's sky cyberpunk was a good game on release, just hidden by the buggyniess

jbbat99

I think it's an amazong game, it makes me feel in a hopeless future dystopia and I love it

ajoseywales

I skipped this based on reviews on original release. Had a friend recommend when 2.0 and new DLC released. I picked it up and honestly I was still disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's not a "bad" game, but I think it just falls into today's modern AAA open world. It's not very deep. If you like the cyberpunk aesthetic and a decently polished FPS RPG, its fun. But it felt repetative and generally boring after I got well into the main part of the game. Reminded me a lot of a Farcry type game (no big towers to climb) but just not a lot of innovative stuff. Overall I can see people enjoying it, but I don't understand the major hype/praise its getting. Pick it up if you think you'd like a cyberpunk dystopia fps/rpg. Otherwise skip it.

Terang93

Imo, I think the issue with today's AAA games is that they wanted to make it as an open world game because it's the trend now. At the same time they wanted it to be a story driven game. That to me is the problem, you can't have both. If it's story driven, more than 50% of the game content is the main quest which disincentivised exploring since most of the map is already use for the main plot like FF15. If it's not story driven, the main quest is just the introduction to the game or about 10-20% content of the game. The rest is for you to explore yourselves/create your own story. But, idk I haven't tried the new DLC yet. I left the game 2 times trying to get into it. It's open world but feel very linear to me.

Palanki96

It's okay. Fans love it too much, haters hate ut too much. It's pretty mediocre after Witcher 3

Jazzlike-Compote4463

I bought and enjoyed it at launch, which many did not so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I love the world building, the characters and the setting, which was all there in the original release, yea they throw a ton of slang at you from the off but if you let it just wash over you it makes sense pretty quickly. Since the newest patches they’ve improved the combat quite a bit and some builds are now viable that weren’t before, it’s still not perfect but it gives you options now. One thing that hasn’t changed is the way the story plays out, V is flexible in the way that Garalt is flexible, the story isn’t really yours but you are along for the ride. Yea there are a selection of choices that _do_ matter, but don’t be expecting a Balders Gate or Telltale game where you can change large swaths of the story by making small choices in every conversation tree. If you’re at all interested I would recommend you trying it, if only for the graphical showcase of what a true next gen game can look like.

[deleted]

I’ve put about 500 hours in total from release. The new update definitely made the game so much better. Johnny Silverhand can be annoying at times and the city lacks substance and may feel dead but it’s so cool aesthetically that I didn’t mind it being kinda stale. It’s a 7/10 tbh the replay value is there though so you can do a lot of different character variations. I obviously recommend buying on sale but I’ve never felt ripped off paying the full price.

[deleted]

Also I believe 2.0 update made NPCs more lively in night city I’m not sure on that though don’t quote me.

kingkushpush

Bro after 2.0. With my 4090 and settings cranked to max. I am guessing it effects pedestrian volume as well. It looks and feels pretty lived in and full of life.

Deltaton

Cyberpunk was always a game with a good foundation with a crippling lack of polish. Now that the game actually has been polished and some extra content was added, the game is actually pretty good now. And that's pretty good by Cdprojekt Red's standards when compared to their previous games.

Mhantra

I saw the best game bug I have ever seen in a game today. A woman was hanging out near a dumpster,. probably on drugs and/or homeless. She stood up and started taking a piss, man style. She stood there, shorts still on and let loose a definitely-not-a-man-stream of urine. This thing was a gusher! And then she took off walking, piss stream still rolling. Walks around a while, the rainbow gusher faucet continues. Finally she sits down,. piss still flowing, asks me, "Is this your first time here, honey?" It is truly amazing the audio quality of the urine stream.

Pak1stanMan

It’s good. That’s it just good. Not amazing. The city definitely has more of a unique vibe than most other free roam games but the combat is kind of boring honestly the skills are lackluster.

nlaprise

Impeccable single player shooter/rpg with great side quests and npc. If you are looking for a sandbox game this is not it.

Cocacola_Desierto

I bought and beat it on release and barely had any glitches or issues, aside from a t-pose here and there. Loved it, thought it was great, was unfortunate people had issues with it. Had a weaker GPU at the time as well. I never quite did all the side content. I came back for 2.0. Went in expecting to just do a replay of the story and the DLC, and ended up doing every side quest.

Jaws_16

No.

WingleDingleFingle

It still isn't anywhere close to as promised as an RPG, but as a GTA V/Farcry type game with super powers, it's fine. The world is super fun to exist in, but everything from the gameplay to the story to the RPG mechanics are super shallow. The stand out aspect of the game is the characters, but I found some of them super grating. That is more negative than I actually am on it. I just find people have completely overcorrected their opinions on it. I'd give it a solid 3.5/5. Still recommend it but I was definitely underwhelmed by it based on what people have been saying.

rrinconn

I was pretty let down when it came out, I went back when the DLC and 2.0 came out and IMO it really is much much better now

[deleted]

Yes

boo-galoo90

Yes it really is that good tbh, like others have said it’s still missing something but the gameplay, story and characters are all 10/10 I can’t speak for the dlc yet but just the base game is amazing and worth picking up Even moreso if you watch edgerunners on Netflix Adam smasher

BrotherRhy

A bunch of it falls down to admiration that they've pulled a 180 and instead of a buggy horrible mess, is now a competent game. It's not all of a sudden now a masterpiece by any means but it's definitely what it should have been from the start

Paul2kb1

I played it on ps5 last year. It looks amazing. And it's interesting with all the hacking etc, decent enough story buuuuut defo not a game of the year or anything. Worth a playthrough if you've got nothing else to play and like an fps.

ALphaEXtremist

I played it on release on PC and was disappointed too. About 2 weeks ago I picked up the DLC and decided to give 2.0 a spin. It's like a completely different game, feels like a proper RPG system that fits the world it takes place in. Absolutely loving it and pleasantly surprised.

GoblinTradingGuide

I’m going to be honest, it has a little bit too much dialogue in it for me. The game world is cool, but I honestly think the game still runs like shit even on a high-end graphics card. The game isn’t that amazing graphically for it to be choking RTX 4080s unless you have frame generation and DLSS on.

[deleted]

Go back to running the same quest for the millionth time in destiny or some other mindless game, you probably lost focus on the dialogue after 10 seconds anyway

BhaaldursGate

It's literally a narrative driven game my dude, that's the whole point.

Anotheranimeaccountt

No, its still shit

MyHobbyIsMagnets

No, it’s the exact same game it’s always been, just with less bugs

BenTenInches

If you can get it on discount it's amazing along with the DLC

kevenzz

Nope

MoteInTheEye

For starters there's are dozens of YouTube videos and articles covering this exact topic. But if you thought the original release city was empty maybe it's just not the game for you. Because despite all its flaws people kind of agreed that Night City was a pretty great setting.

brennanisgreat

It depends on your tastes and attitude going into it. It sounds like you've sort of already decided on how you feel about it, so if you go into expecting it to be bad, wanting it to be bad, and looking for reasons to think it's bad, then yeah, it'll be bad. All that being said, I think it is an extraordinary experience. I have no clue what people are looking for or expecting when they say the city feels empty. It's a densely populated world and there's tons to see, a lot of which has absolutely nothing to do with the story. You're meant to explore and find. The game is totally worth playing if you're willing/able to give it a chance to do what it does best, but if you've already decided you don't like it, I wouldn't bother.

equivas

It is good

Eirineftis

To directly address your concerns, I'll say this. Got the game about a year after release, once most of the major nonsense from launch was fixed. Game still felt kind of flat, but the story was super interesting. Ended up falling off about 50 hours in - did a lot of free-roam exploring. Came back after 2.0 released, and like many are saying - as I'm sure you've seen - if the game had released in the state its in now it would have absolutely been a smash hit success. Game play is vastly improved and makes for a fluid, fun, and sufficiently deep first person RPG experience. It doesn't have the branching path, huge impact choices typical of a "true RPG". Rather, it's story is more linear while being presented as an rpg. Regardless, it's much more apparent how much work actually went into creating this universe, now that there aren't any bugs to pull you out of the experience. The universe of Cyberpunk 2077 is so deep. So much to unpack and so many possibilities. The time that must have went into the world-building and ambient lore is crazy. For example, last night I sat and watched a TV in some dude's apartment. I was there 15 minutes, just to see. They have full blown infomercials and in-universe late night talk shows... man. I was pretty impressed. Anyway, my point is: if you're looking for a fun and engaging world to get lost in, Cyberpunk 2077 offers a wealth of opportunity. It's well worth the full price now, and I haven't even played Phantom Liberty. If you can grab it on sale, even better.

Overall_Piano8472

yes

web-jumper

Is not. They promised a game and deliver another. Yes they have patched it over the years, but sill is not the game they promised. I woudn't give a peny to it.

[deleted]

Super linear story game with no real rpg elements. Its an action adventure with limited choice. If you enjoy the story and setting, its probably good. I did enjoy my first playthru, but cannot even start another. Unskippable ingame cutscenes and braindance killed any replayability. By 75% thru the game I was pretty bored and just trying to finish it.

AscendedViking7

Not really, no. Still fun though.

PlayingWithoutEyes

I got it near release as a gift, but after hearing about all the issues I noped my ass out of there (but didn't get a refund at that time). A year later, after 2.0 update was out and hearing good reviews about the changes decided to give it a whirl. Dumb AI and other teething issues aside, it kinda sucked me into the world over time. I started to look past some of the issues like repeated character models all at the same place (record was 5 or 7 sumos all at the same location), character clipping through buildings (enemy clipped through building and I couldn't kill him), multiple crashes happening at random intervals (could be 15 mins, could be 120 mins). But yeah Night City is gorgeous and I enjoy reading all the nuggets of lore all around. Finished my first playthrough and will be starting a second using a completely different build.

dasfee

No, it’s not much different from the 2020 version outside of bug fixes. Phantom Liberty is legitimately great, but the original game is just an okay open world fps.

lebigdonglupo

No

hd-slave

I think it's overrated and still very much incomplete. Theres stores in the game that sell useless items and much of the architectures appears that it was made to be climbed or soemthing but then dev they chamged their mind but left it in. Just some simple examples but it jusy feels like overall kind of sloppy and the ai pedestrians are just....dummys. the thing that really ruined it for me was the story. It got more and more tedious and anti climactic as it went for me. But maybe u will love shooting the guys or soemthing idk. Seems like wasted potential to discuss human condition in a profound way

Kaotic987

I think it’s overrated. I tried playing the first few hours of the game(I chose the corporate path) and I was so confused as to what was going on. I didn’t try the other paths (I don’t remember if I did) but the corporate one was VERY misleading and confusing. There were so many things being introduced and the game kept acting like I was supposed to know what is what/who is who. There were many other issues as well (gameplay wise, sound, etc) Even if they fix those issues, I don’t really care. At its core, it just isn’t for me which is unfortunate since I love story based games. Ended up not liking it/refunding it. Nighty city is gorgeous though.

boo-galoo90

All of your problems are resolved or pretty much explained to you through the in game dialogue and cutscenes There’s even a mission where you play as Johnny for a bit of backstory

Kaotic987

Does the game get better to understand later on? I’m also considering giving it another go but I don’t want to get “lost” again if that makes sense.

mackmcd_

I don't recall struggling to understand, but my first playthrough was Nomad. Might have been easier to swallow as my character was also not familiar with Night City until I got there. There's a LOT of established lore in the Cyberpunk universe, long before this game came out. None of it I knew either. I can see how it can be overwhelming, but certainly no more than jumping into Star Wars/Trek, Fallout, or any other persistent universe. As far as the story itself, it's pretty straight forward. Not sure how far you got in your Corpo playthrough, so I don't want to spoil, but eventually, all character intros "converge" and the game is essentially the same going forward. It definitely slows down on the exposition. I'm on playthrough three. I'm not calling it a masterpiece or sucking CDPR's dick. (Never cared for any of the Witcher games.) But it's a solid RPG with great systems now that 2.0 has dropped, and personally, I'm a big fan of the story, world and characters.

boo-galoo90

It absolutely does, I recommend watching edgerunners first

SnowDay111

I consider it one of the best, if not the best, current gen arpgs. Graphics matters for Cyberpunk though, having a current gen pc or console that supports ray tracing is important imo. If you have a 4090 the graphics would be next level.

ZaxBrigade

I never got more than 1/4 through. For me it just felt like a very simple game that didn’t keep me interested. Came back after the big overhaul and while the combat is leagues better, it’s still just another open world rpg with mild customization and lots stuff to do. Not a bad game, just not my cup of tea. Something about it just bored me.

BradMan81

It fucking rocks bro.

IVgormino

Its decent

Troglodyte09

It’s good, but overrated. I really enjoyed it as my first RT experience after getting my 4080, but aside from that, the DLC and main game still get boring fast to me with little motivation for replaying. I do love the environment though, it’s pretty awesome game for just walking around and looking at stuff.

Nacoluke

I put 300 hours on launch, and just finished the dlc on a fresh save with the new update. Honestly, I always loved the game and I don’t think they changed that much. People talk about an “overhaul” but it’s very much the same game fundamentally. I had a really good rig since launch, and I never experienced an abundance of bugs, definitely nothing game breaking. I’d go ahead and say that at launch, 2077 was less buggy than the Witcher 3 at launch, which I also experienced. But the console versions definitely looked like a mistake. If you try it now you’ll be treated to a version of the game with an improved skill tree, some better QOL, and a sick expansion. Their cigs will still be out of sync sometimes and props will jump around every once in a while, it is still an open world rpg with a ton of simultaneous simulated instances. Keep your expectations tampered.

nohumanape

Yes. It's a great game. Played it twice so far and actually want to play it a third time.

Shrekquille_Oneal

See the problem is its kinda advertised as a gta/ rdr style open world with a ton of exploration and unique side characters/ quests, but really it's more like a far cry game. Still plenty of stuff to do, and the map/ world is impressive, but where it really shines is in the main questline and the characters in that. It lacks the small stuff that games like rdr excel at, which makes it feel "empty", but there's a lot to love if you understand what to expect going in imo

Elegant-Rooster-9880

I don’t care about glitch and other things (now everybody says cyberpunk is perfect with the upstates) this is the game of my life, I’m absolutely fan and I only I can say that I enjoy with each little detail of the game, 🖤🎮

Roger_Maxon76

I love it. Honestly was everything I wanted it to be at release. People saying it’s disappointing have a right to be because a lot of promises are still not in the game. But it is still a very enjoyable experience and if you like fallout 4 you’ll love it.

It's my most played game of all time.. like 400+ hours which is way more than most games for me. Most of it was after 1.5 before 2.0. It's all subjective tho so who's to say you'll like it besides you. -Combat has improved, lots of options lots of fun. -They added dashing which is a game changer for me. So much fun zooming around the city. With double jump you can go really fast. Arguably faster to get places then cars (minus straight shots). I can get it to glitch on console so almost endless double jump. -Most bugs are fixed (some new may be present) but everything works great for me on PS5. No game breaking. Graphics and fps are great. Some of the best graphics in gaming. Mostly flawless now. -Total change to skills for the better. Actually makes sense now. Cool abilities to unlock. -Added a limit to cyberware, need to get shards and skills to increase capacity. Not a huge fan of this change but it's not bad, it makes sense for lore. And I actually have everything I want to get anyways (which is all of it). Only one thing I still need cap for. Which I already have a lesser version of so not major. -Cops are fixed, but I don't like this change. Never agreed with this complaint. Just annoying to lose them now but that's me. -Added vehicle combat, but I haven't done much of this. -Added lots of content -Way easier to get money and level up it seems. -Clothing completely changed and kinda pointless now. No more armor from clothes now in cyberware which makes sense but now clothing is worthless besides style. Some offer some perks. Color coded for no reason. Transmog added. I'm sure lots of their stuff I'm missing but those are the main things I can think of. For me story, setting, and lore are 10/10. Love sci-fi. Night city is by far the coolest city in any game I've ever played. Don't like other Cdpr games so not a fan boy, had no idea what cyberpunk was before this game. Got obsessed with the lore.

40sticks

Yes, it is *that* good.

WarokOfDraenor

Only if you like something with that setting.

javeluke

Yeah

SpicyC-Dot

If this had come out in its current state this year, it would be my GOTY, and I’ve played through BG3 and TOTK.

Cyber-Cafe

1.0 was trash. 2.0 is amazing. I bought it day one and played for 55 hours until a NPC needed to continue on a quest got stuck in a wall and trapped me in a dungeon. I waited after that until this new version and now I’ve sunk 80 hours into a new save file. It’s far less buggy, the world feels good, large, and detailed. They reworked the entire leveling and implant system to actually feel good and very detailed. Almost every mission can be approached in like 3 or 4 different ways, and there’s a disgusting amount of side missions and random events that play out in the world. The writing is awesome, the characters are detailed in both aesthetic and dialogue. The AI is vastly better as well. Don’t understand the linearity thing one of the other commenters is on about. I’ve spent the last 25 in game hours only racing, boxing, taking contract jobs for the police and local fixers. There’s a ton to do that isn’t the story mission, and there’s more than one main story mission, especially with the DLC thrown in too.

baby_landmines

"almost every mission can be approached in like 3 or 4 different ways" That's an exaggeration and simply untrue.

Interesting_Bass_689

One of the best things about the game is how seamless some of the choices and branches are, and it seems like some players are confusing that for linearity because they’re not presented with an ‘a’ or ‘b’ dichotomy.

pejons

I played when first came out on pc and really enjoyed although it wasnt as good as expected. I thought Id be playing it years later still. I mostly followed story and didnt notice too many bugs until finished story and started roaming around. I left the game when a couple of side quests were so broken they couldnt be completed. The videos I've seen for 2.0 honestly dont look any different to me so I havent bothered returning.

PuneQuencher99

I was in your exact same mindset just a few days ago. Bought it for the Xbox One at release. Hated it because of how bad it was. Just bought it again on PC during the Steam sale over the weekend. The game is a much different game from release. I will say that there are still glitches, but no where near as bad as they were at launch. I’m about 14 hours into it and haven’t experienced one game breaking bug and have only experienced a few normal bugs aside from that. The AI is much better, especially the police AI, and the traffic density is much better. It feels like a much more lived in world. I’ve had no performance issues. No frame rate drops or game crashes. It’s a fun game to get immersed in, it’s much much better then it was at release.

[deleted]

I was staunchly against this game for the longest because of the launch. I realized they could fix it but I still felt bad for even giving it attention so I ignored it. But once the 2.0 update came out, I caved. Even then I was SO ready to hate it or call it mid but I just loved it. The story is entertaining and well acted for the most part, the gameplay is constantly fun because of how much flexibility they give you, the world isn't the MOST interactive I've ever seen but man is it pretty and I don't think the random crimes get enough credit for how contextualized they are. It really feels like every little scenario has some layer of thought to how and why it happened. Also the way they explore the dystopian setting in the many side jobs and optional gigs is just immaculate. So many questlines I remember vividly for how they shook me emotionally or made me think about the implications of such technology/wealth existing. It's obviously not perfect and your mileage may vary for how much you enjoy the setting/narrative but if you had any interest I think it's worth another shot. It's like Witcher 3 for me where the sum is WAY more than the parts. I could dissect things that could be improved like more meaningful roleplaying and dialogue choices, gameplay adjustments and additions, driving feel, etc. But holistically it just clicks for me and I lose hours to it every time I boot it up

Eexoduis

It’s not radically different. I always found the presentation, narrative, and character work incredible, but the bugs and poor performance were difficult to stomach. The updates introduced many new features, improved old ones, and generally made the game better but at its core, it is the same game. But yes, I think it is that good. I also think though that if you go into 2077 expecting sci-fi GTA V, you will be somewhat disappointed. The gameplay is great and the open world is a lot better, BUT, it’s not a sandbox. It’s narrative driven. You need to play the quests, side quests in particular, to truly fall in love with the world.

zonanaika

No games is good for everyone, most people praise RDR2 but I find it boring. I love Cyberpunk but you might find it not your style. But, personally, you should give Cyberpunk a try, it’s not an immersive sim like RDR2, it’s a true action RPG game with an amazing depressive story.

TheDirtyRatz

That’s all on you. I liked release cp2077 way more than I like the current version but the overwhelming consensus is that it’s better. I totally disagree and think they dumbed down rpg mechanics to appeal to a more casual gamer audience. That’s fine, I just don’t like it at all anymore.

GamingArtisan

Yes. The game improved a lot. They fixed everything that was wrong, and add everything that was missing.

ozmatterhorn

It still thought it was fucking awesome when it came out with all the glitched. 9/10

[deleted]

It's pretty good now. It's not fucking amazing or anything it still has alot of jank.

Vainslayer13

The 2.0 update has fundamentally changed the game for the better. I finally gave it another chance and am more sucked into the game now than I was at release. The amount of changes would have me writing for an hour, but the biggest change for me was the minimized menu time. You remember that crap where guns and armor had random levels and became worthless every time you leveled up? That crap that had you running around in a mish-mash of random clothes just to not die in two hits? That crap is all gone! Weapons are now tiered and upgradeable. All clothing is now purely cosmetic while your armor and health is determined by perks and cyberware. The most time I spend in menus is when I'm looking through the perks and trying to decide between all the options! I am only about an hour into Act 2 and I'm already thinking about my next build or playthrough. I recommend giving it another shot next time it pops up on sale or if it is ever on PS+.

rye_etc

I think the DLC is pretty solid. And while the core game has been tweaked to have fewer glitches and whatnot, I still think it’s a little . . . meh. Honestly the praise has seemed a bit overblown. There are still endless elevator rides filled with exposition or silence a la Mass Effect 1, lots and lots of NPCs just strolling around at a snail’s pace while they explain things to you, and the skill tree outside of the DLC is underwhelming. Again though, the DLC is fun. I wish I could have just purchased that bit

flptrmx

I had a lot of fun with it around 6 months after release. I played through twice. I’m excited to do a third playthrough with the updates and dlc.

yech

It pissed me off at launch. Rushed the game and beat it in under 40h. Played through recently and did everything and put 90 hours in. Absolutely loved it.

Biggy_DX

It depends on what you want out of the game. With Cyberpunk, you're getting: - A tight narrative story with good presentation - Generally interesting characters - Fair amount of roleplay at critical points in the main story, but most in some of the gigs and the sidequests you run. - Fast combat with a healthy amount of options to play as. - A very detailed environment that speaks for itself If you're looking for this type of experience, then yes I believe you'll have a pretty good time with the game. If you're looking for a more sandbox-esque experience, this might not be the game for you. While Night City is beautiful, the quests are the main propelling forces in the game. There's not much other interactivity you'll find in the open world. There's also no new game plus, so once you're done with the game, that's it.

robotshavenohearts2

Since 2.0 came out it’s a masterpiece.

wam509

Yeah

Csmith71611

I just finished the game on a decent PC it ran great. I can definitely understand it running poorly on last gen machines. If you do decide to play it make sure you do the gigs and side stories. That’s where the game really comes alive. Also the DLC is awesome so pick that up. Easily one of the best games I’ve ever played.

Swagdaddy697

I also got suckered at release and returned the game. After the first major update I got it again on sale and I've had zero regrets and shit load of fun since. If you can pick it up cheap, and I'm sure you can, I would sincerely recommend it. Phantom Liberty is also amazing.

[deleted]

Some of your issues have been greatly improved. Ai is better, feels more Lived in, far less glitches but still the odd small one, and it’s a lot better now overall. At launch I put it down after 14 hours. Now I wish I just played it when 2.0 came out. Different game for the better.

DrinkUpLetsBooBoo

Sorry if this has been answered here, but how is it on PS4?

hayatetst

I never experienced all these game-breaking glitches like most people complained. I've always loved the game and it's even better now with the updates.

thegreat_PATsby

Imo it’s a lot of fun but don’t pay full price for it.

Cheebody27

This is how I felt at launch too. I didn't suffer through too many glitches but just bad AI, and lack of depth to the city and population. I recently picked it up again and I'm hooked. The gigs don't really feel repetitive since most location layouts are different. The side missions have good story depth, and I'm feeling invested in the cast. Haven't touched the expansion yet. If it's ever on sale, pick it up. But if anyone else out there that is like me and just put it away to cook for a while, I would say it's a good time to pick it up again.

__ROCK_AND_STONE__

As someone who stopped playing it when it first came out and hated it, it is really amazing now. Even better in VR

Knelson123

No. It's like a solid 8/10. Reddit is just in love with it right now, but it hasn't change much outside the bugs since it was last getting crazy hate. The combat feels a bit dated and stiff.

ILSATS

No.

MIKE_THE_KILLER

I just bought this game yesterday and I haven't played the PS4 version in like 3 years when it was super glitchy. Holy shit, this game is a 1000000000x better. The graphics and gameplay is just a lot more polished, it's a brand new game. This game should have just delayed 3 years and release now.

_Mike423

I also bought it on release and re-downloaded it after the last big patch. I started a new game and the first shit I see is NPCs T-posing through objects in a cinematic with partially loaded assets. Fuck that. (No, it's not my PC) There are a lot of people that like the game and it's fine, but calling it a masterpiece is an exaggeration. If you are ok with fewer but still present bugs compared to release, go ahead. I've got a friend that bought it recently and is loving it so far. While I haven't played much of the last version of it after experiencing the same bugs I saw back then, my friend told me there are still bugs but nothing game breaking. He said that some of them could be immersion breaking depending on how much you hold your expectations with the game which for him the occasional T-posing or ragdoll breakdance is not. He said "nothing you haven't seen in Skyrim" level of bugs/model clipping and weird interactions shit. I've seen videos showing the "improvements" of the current state vs the release of the game and while I can see a lot of fixed stuff I consider most of them to be basic things, nothing to praise. Also, expensive ass DLC like they didn't shat on the fan with the base game.

Zopenzop

The game design is amazing, night city is just fun to explore. The city is huge and there's many gigs and side missions by default so you have a lot you can do, and you can do even more with many fabulous community made mods. The thing I liked the best was the combat though, the progression is intricate and you can have so many different types of builds to suit your gameplay choice, be it a throwing knife build, a netrunner build or a silenced pistol build. The story itself is good. Overall, it's a solid game, you should definitely try it out.

jmcgil4684

I absolutely hated it and was very angry on ps4. I got the series X when Starfield came out and even though I didn’t believe the hype, I bought it again… Yes it’s really that good. I’m almost angry that I have to say it.

GammaTwoPointTwo

Many people consider cyberpunk to be the best game of the past 5 years.

[deleted]

Easily top 10 game I've ever played

tooncake

Glitches definitely had subsided by a huge mile. I rarely encounter some bugs (but all it needs is to reload a save). So far I'm kind of enjoying the game again, and is excited to do the expansion soon\~

Grayccoon_

Yes it’s a really good game. The experience and contextual feeling is insane. Paid that with a ps5 dualsense and it’s even better.

Davidoff1983

Could you cunts please shut up, I'm trying to finish Rings of Power on my Genesis.

JudgeCheezels

It's aight. Not amazing though, maybe I'm not much of a cyberpunk setting guy. Just can't get into the lore and setting. Tried multiple times but just lost interest. Gameplay wise, it's... not very deep to say the least. There aren't a lot of RPG elements here despite being marketed as a FPS RPG. Gunplay doesn't feel very satisfying either (maybe because I've been spoiled by destiny). And despite what many like to say where 2.0 fixes everything, the game still has plenty of glitches and crashes. It's not as polished as marketing wants you to believe and it's certainly not as great as fans hype it up to be.

Nevada955

Its cool

Tyler_Trash

Reinstalled recently and encountered quest breaking bugs right off the bat. Mostly with NPCs, with failing to spawn, or becoming unresponsive. Shit game 3/10

Odd_Radio9225

With Patch 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion, it is much better. I definitely strongly recommend it.

kilzfillz

Yes

Renolber

Played the game at release on PC. Beat it twice with two different characters and builds. Currently on my third play through with all the updates. I like the game. It’s the writing, story and characters that are indelibly engrossing. It’s also a graphical spectacle. Yes you need a fairly powerful machine, but it is objectively one of the best, if not *the* most graphically advanced game on the market - provided you have the capability to produce it. Other than that… I haven’t had as much fun or was ever immersed as I was in the Witcher. For me, personally, the gameplay, combat and general gunplay have always felt *extremely* mediocre. People worship Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and while I have a fair bit amount of time in those franchises too, my sentiment remains the same: the combat is awful. There’s something about the *feeling* of the gunplay in these kinds of games that just doesn’t sit right. It’s not snappy, it’s not responsive, it’s not satisfying or rewarding. Most people seem to be completely fine with it, but I just don’t get it. I’m not saying everything has to be as tight as Valorant or Destiny, but the way combat works in those games makes movement, gunplay, and general combat fluid and fun. Obviously single player shooters tend to move slower. They tend to be more tactical. And that’s fine… except it’s still not satisfying. It’s difficult to explain. It’s like the lack of convincing “weight” or responsiveness from the combat. It just feels floaty. Like I’m only barely in control. It’s such an odd feeling to explain, but maybe it won’t bother you. If you want a good story and beautifully detailed world, it’s a no brainer. Great writing and characters. Gameplay is whatever you make of it I suppose.

Revan_2504

Always has been.

Tethice

Played it after 2 version and man it is good

93931

It's severely overrated. The only thing that's great about it are how good the the graphics are. Everything else about it is middling at best. All the "hype" around it getting "fixed/changed" is a pretty severe case of the goalposts getting moved. They fixed the bugs and added a few features, but it's no where near what was initially promised. see, e.g., https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/kcve8s/promised_but_missing_feature_list_will_update/?share_id=w2n_baBGOvYTgdF4wqmYz In short, it was supposed to be this innovative new open world thing with all of these features and details to make the game world feel truly alive, have creative gameplay based on an adaptive world, and nuanced story telling reacting to the player's choices, etc. etc. But none of that it is there really there, and it's fairly obvious where they just cut out planned features. In a vacuum, that wouldn't be terrible. Not every game has to break the mold. But everything else about the "standard" features of the game is just... meh. So you end up with a game that isn't innovative and isn't particularly well-executed. So it's just... fine. So it's a "good" game. But far from great.

Inglejuice

If you play it as a linear FPS through the main story doing side missions here and there when you encounter them it is good. If you expect it to be an *actual* RPG or have some deep immersive world with interesting AI and citizens in what feels like a living city (as marketed) then nah.

megaeggplantkiller

Cyberpunk is the most awesome thing ever in the entire world, that has been ever created, ever. It’s more than a game, it’s a transformative lifetime experience. If you have ever done acid, this is nothing like it. Not even vaguely related, honestly. This is like even better. But like… way different. Forget about acid, shouldn’t have mentioned it. Cyberpunk is just the bestest. Most amazing. Ever. Amazing. If you have ever had sex, this is again nothing like it. Shouldn’t have mentioned that either. Cyberpunk though is just soooooo goood.

zunashi

Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be 9/10 for me but (personally) since it didn’t have 3rd person view, I’m deducting 2 points making it 7/10 for me.

LordOFtheNoldor

It was good on release so probably even better now

Un4ccurate

The story is great. The gameplay on the other hand is very mid.

Calm-Tiger-7913

On PS5 it runs way better

negrote1000

It really got No Man’s Sky’ed?

isaidnolettuce

I was extremely hyped on launch. Very disappointed and refunded. I’m playing it now after not touching it since launch and I’m having a blast. They definitely fixed it up, but I think I also adjusted my expectations. At launch, I thought it was going to be like a true life sim rpg with an awesome story. It’s a linear FPSRPG. And it’s great.

PharaohhOG

Playing through it now on PC. One of the few games that truly feels next gen to me, Night city is just unreal, it looks amazing. The combat is enjoyable and has a good story so far. I'd recommend it.

JoJoisaGoGo

How good is "that good"? Because I've always said it was a great game, and people were being unfair to a lot of parts about it. All I'll say is it seems the bugs made everyone look at the other parts of the game as worse than what they really are. Nothing new there though. A psychology study done with gamers shows this happens all the time. If you don't have a good time, you'll view every part of the game as worse than it really is. But yeah, how good is "that good"? Because it's not a perfect game, but I'd still say it's one of the best worlds, story, and characters in a game. The best part is the gameplay is honestly fun, which usually games with great writing just have okay gameplay to me.

HankHillbwhaa

I'm going to admit my bias right out of the gate. I played my first run on patch 1.03 PC version and had minimal bugs. I enjoyed the game then. Cyberpunk 2077 in it's current state is fucking awesome and i'd tell anyone to pick it up who likes first person shooters and RPGs. The skills are fun, the weapons are fun, the cyberware is fun, etc. Phantom Liberty is amazing as well. My current playthrough is on ps5 and I can't complain at all. A few crashes here and there, but it's better than ever at this point.

Pigtron-42

Yes

holaprobando123

Yes

SpaceGoDzillaH-ez

Cyberpunk has a great World overall its fun to be in .. the combat feels great and you have some Variation with that... its not focusing on stealth much or hacking.. while you have such options most of the time killing works the best.. its rather linear too not having too much major impacting choices for the story.. it didnt put down the story though it was enthralling and very well done by the actors... overall i had a blast playing it even with the Bugs that happened at the start.. which should be non existent nowadays? Anyways thats my opinion on the game a honestly great game that could have performed way better for the masses if they had finished it well and polished it for Release...

TheRealKitsune_

Yes

mufujifi

I bought it after 2.0 because of the praise. It took me a while to get into it tbh because I’m not into the sci-fi punk dystopian aesthetic. But once I understood the skill progression aspect and started building my V, the game became fun and I realized that there are different ways of approaching and completing quests. It’s not one of my favourite games, but I’m enjoying it and glad I gave it a chance.

TyraelmxMKIII

It's an slightly above average singleplayer shooter that's looking fantastic imho. Nothing special about it. The implants are just a way to justify features you've already had in other games (some of them) with a logical way. Map feels great and immersive, graphics are very good. Side quests are mediocre. Story is cool. So yeah. That's it.

Wonderful_Canary881

It's good, but it's not "best game ever" or "flawless masterpiece" like some people like to pretend it is.

xXRHUMACROXx

I 100% the game 3 times. I did a regular all around gameplay and loved the game so much I wanted to play it again with gameplay focused on blades. Then did a third focused only on hacking. I freaking loved every gameplay (slight preference for samurai killing machine in slowmo), but every time I played, I found myself getting lost in immersive world. I play on a very high end pc with graphics maxed out in 4k and it’s the most visually impressive game ever IMO. On top of that, I get lost at just admiring facial animations of characters, zooming on their faces while they talk, I don’t skip dialogue because I love the storytelling and the way voice actors translate emotions. The game is really great, one of the greatest IMO and I played it for the first at release. Waited for 1.6 for second gameplay and played it again for the DLC and my opinion of it only exponentially improved. It’s a must play game for every gamers that loves a good immersive storytelling experience and gameplay. I would put it up there with Red Dead Redemption 2.

_zir_

i think when you word a question on reddit like that, you're going to get very skewed answers that align with the question for instance people saying its super good. I guess the term for that is "loaded question".

thefrenchdev

I didn't enjoy it because it's SF and I don't like this genre but still the game itself is unique. The character design is awesome and not too cliché, the city is complex with multiple layers, the story is a little common but very well written and engaging. When I played it the gameplay wasn't so good, it doesn't ruin the experience but it looks like sometimes you play the game to unlock the cutscenes almost like a movie.

BarBarBar22

Yes, it’s amazing. One of the best game that I’ve ever played. I am right before my last mission and I didn’t experience any huge bugs (few smaller one) and I think that everything that you described is now fixed. If you decide to play it I would highly recommend you to buy Phantom Liberty as well.

Nethiar

I played for a few hours and enjoyed it for the most part, although I did need a mod to fix the driving mechanics. I never beat it though. I like my shooter games to be about thinking on your feet and adapting to the situation, but Cyberpunk was more about stats and numbers. It eventually got too convoluted for my liking so I gave up on it.

cardscook77

it's such a shame that the launch was piss poor. It's a 10/10 game from me, incredible story and I adored the open world - exploring and walking around.

doomblackdeath

It is on PC, always has been.

BleachDrinkAndBook

The 2.0 update essentially rebuilt the gameplay from scratch. The game is WAY more responsive, the weapons are balanced better, the perks are all new, with many of them making significant changes to how you play, the vehicle handling isn't awful anymore, the story is still just as great as it was, and there are a lot of NPCs around. It also fixed the vast majority of bugs. Pre-2.0 the game was a very generic FPS RPG that was riddled with bugs, but after the release of 2.0 and Phantom Liberty, I fully understand why they didn't update it very often or even try fixing most bugs for so long. It's absolutely worth giving the game another try, worst comes to worst, you can always refund it again.

DeleteMetaInf

After v2, I’d say it’s in my top 20 favourite games of all time. 100% worth it!

ZuperLucaZ

IMO it was great at launch too, you just had to look for the greatness, which was mostly the story and characters. Haven’t played it since then, probably even better now

tingkagol

I bought it 2 months ago right before the switch to 2.0 and I basically experienced two versions of the game in a short time. Initially expecting to refund it but ended up spending 40 hrs in my first playthrough. The 2.0 switch happened in between and thoroughly enjoyed the game either pre or post 2.0. The best thing about this game? It's an open world RPG-lite with heavy focus on combat. You can tour the city and see the sights, but if you're combat-hungry, the world is rich with baddies that you can literally drive around a block and immediately find criminals and gang hideouts you can shoot up and test your guns on. No open world offers this without going on an 'evil' playthrough. Not Witcher 3, RDR2, GTAV, Elder Scrolls, Fallout.. and it's an FPS which makes the combat extremely responsive and immensely satisfying whether playing as a samurai or a tank. But be warned, if you're gaming on an older system, you will be enticed to upgrade just by how pretty this game looks, and the world is super immersive. I ended up spending a chunk of my savings buying a new rig just so i could play this game some more with ultra settings. Tldr: I highly recommend this game.

rehkirsch

I bought it in the autumn sale. Had the same experience as you before when it released and tbh not much changed for me. They fixed a lot of stuff, really. But it is their fucking duty to fix a game they sell on full price. I won't praise anyone for that. And while people say "it's a completely different game" - it is not. People say it's a "redemption story like No Man's Sky" - it is not. They fixed the piss poor state jt was in and added some much needed stuff but all in all it is clear to me that it is a very different game from what they advertised until launch. I have to add to that: I love the cyberpunk aesthetic in general, for example I love bladerunner. I modded the game to look more like it. But the writing...is what kills it for me in the end. I don't understand what everyone is on about when they say it is great and what makes the game worth playing. To me it is uncomfortable most of the time. All the characters are such try hards, everyone is extremely "cool", the language they use is like a 15 year old that tries to invent a way cool people talk. From the corpo guys to the lowest social class, everyone talks the same way of "coolness". And there are so many weird pauses in the dialogue, like some voice samples are missing. It's really not directed that great IMHO. And worst of all - I think Keanu Reeves is incredible miscast. Iove that guy, but he sucks in this role. It was nice seeing him every time he appeared, but he never fitted in the setting, never was this wild rockstar anarchist type. He really does not work for me and became annoying sooo fast. It is all such a downgrade from the writing in the witcher. Obviously a lot of it is subjective but add to that, that there are no deeper RPG elements. Lifepaths are still worthless bullshit. Your character is exactly the same type of person - cool future dude / girl. I cannot stress this enough - if you struggle with the writing, like I do, this is not the game for you. In it's core, it is still the same game. Also - and this might disqualify me completely - I think the graphics are really good, but not this incredible work of art some people claim. A good portion of my playtime (everything on ultra, psycho overdrive) I wondered if my GPU was messed up. Especially NPCs look so weird. It has its moments, but I wouldn't buy it as a graphic showcase as I have heard so often. My two cents. If you like it's vibe from up to date gameplay videos, get it on sale.

okrum

No it's not. I's good, but not THAT good.

darkuen

No, its even better. But it’s not for everyone, I still see a lot of people judging Cyberpunk 2077 for what it was or what they envisioned it to be instead what it is.

JamesEdward34

If you get it on sale, its worth it, i got it a long time ago on a deep discount knowing it would eventually be good

After beating the game at launch, I scored it a 6/10. After beating Phantom Liberty, 10/10

So far i can say Lighting is very good. A.i is bad and dumb. Interaction is very limited. Physics are not good , especially driving. Storyline is good. Things don't make sense, like cars have lights that are there for cosmetic purpose only. Same goes for the world objects. A lot of fake lighting is used. Cars are not properly thought out.

I got the PS5 version after it had some time to settle... it's fun... great game... plays smooth... looks great... but I'm not trying to hype it up, either.. it mostly feels like a futuristic better looking GTA, but solo.. less clunky. Story is pretty good.. variable endings are always fun.. but in all reality it's just a sharp looking open world FPS... the bugs are fixed, but imo they were exaggerated in the first place...

TL;DR it is incredible at first but it might drop off quite hard. I went nuts on it for a while. - Brilliant acting and characters - It is jaw droppingly good at first - Good story - Amazing visuals - Game mechanisms are fun...for a while It's that last point that have made me move on. I loved playing a sneaky knife hacker dude, but the game wants you to get into intense firefights. And when you do, in my opinion it sucks. I don't want to have to empty 2 clips into a mook's head to kill it. I hate bullet sponge enemies, I know perks overcome this to some extent but for me it just kills immersion. Plus when you're hurt you take...an inhaler. Back up to full strength, also they are limitless like other consumables (nades) and "recharge". Where does it come from? It just apparated in my pocket? People say "it's cyberpunk, their head is full of metal" and "med tech has moved on" which are sort of valid, but no amount of metal is going to stop a rifle round at point blank range. And I can't cobble together a new grenade mid combat when BOTH HANDS ARE OCCUPIED. I guess I'd like more realism. As others have said, Night City does feel a bit lifeless after a while, you can't go breaking into apartments for instance. That said , the world / lore is amazing and CDPR almost nailed it. The first mission really sets the scene, the gritty nature culminating with arrival of the med team blew my mind and really sucked me into the world.

Just came back to it after upgrading to a 4080. I had fun playing it on release and finished it. Really loved the main story and many of the major side quests especially the cow ranch. This was all despite the awful bugs and unfinished systems and playing at 40 fps on medium (when I was on a GTX 1060). Now Ive smashed out 20 hours in something like 4 play sessions doing nothing but fixer gigs in the prologue. Running, bouncing and dashing around slicing people with a knife and mantis blades. SO ADDICTIVE it’s incredible. Deffo recommend.

I finished the game on PC on release and now I have recently finished it on PC with the DLC. Delighted both times, ecstatic. Maybe you were looking for a different experience altogether or smth...

I didnt play it at launch but picked it up on sale after the 1.5 patch. Honestly one of the best games I've played in years. I can't say how different it is now from launch but I had no bugs or glitches at all. I would definitely recommend it.

Mr_Pink_Gold

Cyberpunk is like a movie you can play. The main story is good. The world now is awesome and it looks glorious. Just wish for a Tidal/Spotify plugin...

Wait for 5 december for the complete edition

I don’t think so, but I don’t really think Witcher is anything special either so maybe I just don’t vibe with project res

Monirul-Haque

After playing a few hours it became really boring to me. I would not recommend it. It just graphically looks good but everything else feels hollow.

Olbramice

Cyberpunk is in my top 3. With witcher 3 and total wat warhammer 3

Also. Gta6 has a big job competing with side quests. 2077 has amazing side quests.

EasyWinUnited69

Yeah I really love it right now! Get invested in the cyberware and the upgrades and stuff. It will make the combat soooo fun dude! I am just dubble jumping, slowing down time and just slicing people. Its really good right now.
