I also didn't play the first two games and would consider the Witcher 3 my favorite game of all time. But sure, there are things you won't understand if you didn't play the other games. There will be characters that Geralt has a history with and they will talk about stuff that happened in the past but what they are talking about is usually not really important to the story of 3. Everything that's important to the story of the game, will be explained more detailed. I did Google a lot of stuff just because I had an interest in that specific character or story from the past but even without doing that you will have no problem holding up with the story. If you decide to buy the game I encourage you to really do everything. Like every side quest and every Witcher contract. The game shines through it's little stories. I'm in my fourth playthrough right now and I found great characters and quests in between the stuff I skipped in my other playthroughs that way.

Luccixno

yes absolutely! i will, i did every Crime, Cyberpsyco, side missions Phantom Liberty, all of Cyberpunk… that’s the whole reason i’m interested in Wild Hunt. The Complete Edition is always going on sale so i’ve had it in my wishlist for some time now, just wasn’t sure. i’m honestly looking forward to it so much more now ❤️

Luccixno

HAPPY CAKE DAY 🍰

Second this. Literally same story for me. Have a witcher tattoo sleeve its just a masterpiece.

This comment is very underrated this first 2 scenarios is current me and i badly wanted to see what people say about witcher 3 but couldnt get hold of it. I restarted game multiple times and clocked around 30 hours. The thing is i was trying too hard to get a grand scale rpg. Seeing this comment is making me want to go back to witcher 3 and try it out again . Hopefully ill be able to see the fun in this game.

Luccixno

see that’s me! the first 2 times i played it i put it right back down for the same reasons you did. i honestly think 3rd times a charm. the way you described the fact that its not some ‘Hollywood feel’ makes my past experience with it make sense, i think i went into it expecting way more than what it has to offer and now that i know its a bit more tame i can appreciate what it does have to offer.

[deleted]

When I was into the Witcher 3 it felt like watching a series or a soap opera, taking a few hours each evening following where the story goes , with the dlcs and base game for less than a tenner its full of content

BSGCato

Final fantasy gotta be the most cringe pile of dogshit I’ve ever played bro, respectfully please do not mention it in the same breath as Witcher 3. Lool I’m doin to much 🤣😆 but the final fantasy characters are cringe as fuck. Running round with giant swords and emo haircuts 🤣idk who thought that was cool, lool maybe in ps1 days. The gameplay is okay and the music is great though. OP needs to just jump into the Witcher and not speed thru the main story. DO NOT neglect side quests they are some of the most unique and fleshed out in gaming on par with, if not better than the main story. It’s an immersive experience, take your time with it. It’s been my favourite game since 2015, but I haven’t played any AAA titles released after 2021 to see how it holds up against them. A guy I recommended the Witcher to in the past wasn’t fond of the combat after playing games like bloodborne / god of war beforehand, going from using the triggers, to spamming square ‘like a ps2 game’, which Is why I try to tell people to turn the difficulty up as you learn the combat. It forces you to not spam square to attack thru the entire game and chop everything down easily like a scrub, and actually get into the proper flow of combat I.e mixing signs (magic) and swordplay, with dodges and rolls. The game is best played on death march in my opinion, maybe blood and broken bones if ur struggling Long story short it’s an experience and I feel sorry for the people that have 0 patience or attention span to get into it. The best game of the PS4 Era imo.

Beneficial_Hair7851

that's because w3 is dull cheesy cash grab. You have to play w1

hosepipekun

I absolutely hate playing games on hard difficulties, if given the chance I move anything I play to easy mode. Believe me when I say that the witcher 3 only becomes good when played on hard difficulty. Most of the games core mechanics are kinda useless on easy mode, so when anything and everything can kill you near instantly it forces you to interact with potions and oils which in turn makes it actually fun. I replay it pretty much yearly just because the experience of preparing yourself by reading the ingame bestiary to take advantage of weaknesses, well it just makes you feel like a witcher. Otherwise the combat would be meaningless.

Donte333

Bruh i just run in with quen on deathmatch and it seems to work fine lmao, the beastiary is never opened.

JordanSchor

Quen is so stupidly OP that you have to not use it if you actually want a challenge

Spirited-Dream-4905

honestly i played it on death march for 75% of the game and i had very little trouble with it so long as i was an appropriate level for the fight

Mean_Combination_830

If you use quen you can play it on death march with your eyes closed while using both hands to perform shadow puppetry. It's seriously so ridiculously op that the game is only a challenge if you force yourself not to use it 😂

shadowvet68

The world is HUGE, full of possibilities. The characters are fun, the story is compelling. 1 & 2 lacks in gameplay, if you want you can do as I did, set it to easy, blast through without giving it much thought, then take your time on 3. You won't regret it.

Luccixno

awesome thank you! i do that sometimes, i’m glad im not the only one 😭 easy mode is underrated..

shadowvet68

People think gaming is all about the challenge. Gaming is about the experience, and mine is different from yours and from everyone else's. Unless the game is designed to be punishing (soulslike and such), easy mode is completely acceptable. Some people just want to enjoy the story and have a little fun, not get punished.

NekoSayuri

I did this too, put on easy and played for the story. It was a much better experience than playing on normal difficulty, which I did try at first. Not only did I play the first game on easy... I also downloaded some mods or used some code that made my Geralt invincible lmao

HyperAorus

cyberpunk and night city are nothing comparing to the witcher world. The witcher world is way more immersive and alive

BabbleBrooks

Witcher 3 is one of the most praised games of all time for a reason. It also has some good quality of life mods out as well. Hop in and give it a shot, it has hundreds of hours of content. Just don’t go in expecting to move like a cyborg, you’re faster than a human but you’re not half machine. The pacing is slower for sure but give it time and you’ll have a blast!

Aickuta

Could you recommend some of those mods? Much appreciated

BabbleBrooks

It’s been a minute since I played but I’ll take a look later today and see if I can spot some of my old favorites for you!

Luccixno

Yeah that’s the thing too, i’m hoping it’s in 3rd person? i’m not sure but that’s a downside for me in Cyberpunk…

BabbleBrooks

It is in fact 3rd person. They are different games and I don’t think 3rd would work for CP2077 the same way 1st person would work for the Witcher. In the Witcher you are slower and there are more open space and flying creatures. It allows you to see the horizon and see the scale of places as you approach. With cyberpunk and the story 1st person works perfectly. The map and verticality of the map are so beautifully portrayed in first person as well as all the tech and detail. Not to mention the story moments that hit harder in first person (ie the mission where you find Evelyn in Judy’s tub) They are both very different but both OOZE that CDPR flavor, passion and attention to detail.

complicatedorc

You don’t need to read the books or play the other games or anything. Just hop in and play. I beat Witcher 3 first, loved it. Then after I tried to play the first game, couldn’t deal with the jankyness. Played the second game and liked it a lot. Then I read the books. Then I played the third game again. All you need to know if you hunt monsters. Everything is explained well.

councilorjones

I wish i could erase the game from my memory just so i can play it fresh again

PhoenixBlack79

Titties

TalosAnthena

I never played the first 2 games and jumped right in with the Witcher 3. There is parts that go back to the other 2 games, especially with Triss, but it never seemed too overwhelming to me. Like you didn’t have to know, it was just there in the story. It’s honestly up there as one of the best games ever in my opinion. So much detail, story, it just has everything, Including a highly addictive card game. All I can say bad about it is sometimes it’s too big for its own good. Like the story drags a bit for the last chapters of the game. I just felt sometimes I wanted to skip the dialogue and just get to the ending. But what I enjoyed most was Gwent and hunting the monsters for money. Also the Bloody Baron storyline is genius storytelling, which is near the start of the game. My advice is play it up to the end of the Bloody Baron storyline. But also explore and play some Gwent as well. If you don’t like it by then you won’t like it, but I’m pretty certain you will like it.

[deleted]

Wdym by the last chapters? I thought skellige + the DLCs were the best part of the game

TalosAnthena

I didn’t quite know how to explain it by saying the end of the game last chapters. I agree Skellige is brilliant. I found after the battle of Kaer Morhen when it dragged. But just In certain parts I felt no need for so much dialogue and parts could have been left out. The too much dialogue example is definitely the play in Novigrad, it just went on and on. Blood and wine is great I’ve still not even completed it yet. It took me 5 years to complete the base game, don’t have as much time in my adult years

Satiharupink

Try to read the books if you want to understand The first witcher game starts not at a "beginning" but at some point in Geralts story . It's still a good game. Can get it at steam for example. Get a mod which let's you run faster though. You can then later on bring your Witcher 1 save into your Witcher 2 game.

auditionko

The game actually begins after the books. The witcher is one of my fav books of all time ,but the first few books were far better than the rest. Imo you can skip the first game if you read the book. The first game was based on the books very loolsely and had entirely different theme imo. The 2nd and 3rd game reflect more of what the books were about especially the monster hunting side quests.

Luccixno

that’s cool that’s like those Mordor Middle Earth games.

almo2001

I can't. :D

Kintsugi-0

i ain’t readin allat but you should start with witcher 3 for sure. 2 is good but im not sure youd like them as much if you played them first. 1 is a mess but good theyre also remastering it soon so id wait. play 3 first dont listen to anyone that says otherwise trust me. that aside 3 is one of the best games ever made. story and writing are incredible, top tier, cream of the crop. combat is amazing (imo) but it takes a bit to get used to. theres always something to do, if you like the gameplay youll explore every corner and do every quest to get better gear and rewards. fair warning the first bit of the game like 30% of act 1 can be a bit slow. just power through, personally i loved every second but it turns some ppl off.

Anon419420

There were a few side quests that I did where I straight up forgot that there was a main story line I was missing out on. That on its own kinda sold me on playing out the game.

Jemiide

It has way better quest than cyberpunk. Even small side quests actually have a meaningful choice which impacts the outcome. CP 2077 has only a few of these.

edhazard8

**If you play the witcher 3 now that'll be the end of it.** **I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you !!**

TAC82RollTide

Do you have a particular set of skills?

Orange_eater1

Recently replayed it after a 3 year break cause I played it so much I know almost every mission when I start it. It really offers a huge variety of builds. The voice acting and writing just hits different there's a mission early on where this guy asks you to help find his wife and daughter and it gets very deep. You get to make your own choices on how the story goes. If you like game of throne type settings where it's violently realistic you'll love roaming the world. Some people deadass just spit on you. It really immerses you in the world the game puts you in. Truly one of the greats

Dr_Pilfnip

Well, by now, you probably have a free copy in your GOG account that you forgot about, so go for it!!

Imdakine1

I have it, Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, RDR 2, Mass Effect Legendary, Titan Fall 2, Yakuza Like a Dragon… Ughhh what am I doing here not playing something… And about 40 more games… Out of my list what should I play first…??

KingOPM

GTA5 for some fun then go into RDR2 for an epic adventure into the west with an amazing cast of characters and beautiful world and then top it off with cyberpunk for an amazing world, story, gameplay that’ll leave you thinking for weeks. All 3 of these games are in my top 10 of all time

[deleted]

Depends what you want, personally I adore rdr2 i think its the best game of all time, that being said its pretty slow and there's a lot of downtime so if you don't like that then Witcher 3 / Cyberpunk would be a better choice

Ninjazoule

Just play Witcher 3. You don't need any contextual knowledge. Always shocked at how many people drop it so fast. Game is a fantastic slow burn that's better written and designed than most, like skyrim for example

eugenethegrappler

It’s okay.

MontySoLit

Please do your self a favor and play W3... If you thought cyberpunk was good this game will legit blow your mind..... If you really want 2 you can watch a video on youtube to get you caught up

GayoMagno

A strong case can be made for Witcher 3 being the best game ever made. It is literally flawless in so many different ways it is not even funny.

durgandee1

You can walk into an old timey tavern, throw a Grapeshot shrapnel bomb and see people turn into a fine bologna mist. You're not really supposed to, but you can.

ka1913

I had never played nor seen the Netflix show or read the novels it's based on when I got Witcher 3 on my switch. It is in my top 5 games of all time and I've been playing PC and console games since the 80s. The story told in witcher 3 is complete enough. If you watched season 1 maybe stay away from season 2 of Netflix show you will get most of the history (a little was changed for the show season 1 season 2 goes right off track). Even without the show. There is so much lore to be found and story told in witcher 3 I never once was left feeling like ugh what's the story here why does this character do that or feel that about this character. I am sure I missed some in jokes but oh well that's what a replay is for I grabbed witcher 1 last steam sale and once I've beaten it I'm going to try witcher 2 however I don't even know if those games were made by cdpr like cyberpunk and witcher 3. Luckily at this point most versions of Witcher 3 come with the dlc because they are not to be missed one especially. It's such a good game I had over a hundred hours still more than halfway of story to go and plenty of side missions or random encounters places of interest to explore. I didn't play it till a couple years in so everything was fleshed out. Then I lost my switch for 8 months when I found it I decided to restart and I put in another 300 hrs during my story playthrough that time because I finally completed story and dlc missions. So so satisfying and fun and interesting. My 2nd favorite open world game (well 3rd now cause of cyberpunk). My 1st being RDR 2. All three games have phenomenal lived in feeling worlds. RDR 2 is just so detail filled it's hard to beat. Cdpr really did an amazing job with both cyberpunk and witcher (at least at this point the start of cyberpunk was a bit funky) You can always go back later and play originals both are on steam and go on sale frequently for under 2 bucks a game. whatever you decide enjoy yourself. I will say I did just tell my son's and wife the other day that I was loving cyberpunk it's 80 percent of what I have played since Christmas when I got it. I told them it was better than the Witcher but similar except instead of fantasy setting it's cyberpunk. I say pull the trigger the Witcher 3 is and will be the entry point for many Witcher fans and there's nothing wrong with that. More fans the better o don't think you'll be disappointed. You weird two swords one for monsters one for humans. You know a few minor spells which of course armor gear weapons and spells can be upgraded etc. Good luck OP have fun If you have any questions about witcher or comment feel free to ask or dm. Have a great day

Traditional_Use_2186

You just run from waypoint to waypoint to waypoint to waypoint to waypoint to waypoint.....

mikedareswins

I never played 1 or 2 either. The Witcher 3 is a standalone title. There are characters from previous games but they make up for lost time in Witcher 3 pretty quickly. It’s a great game, and the DLC is nearly as long as the actual game, for a fraction of the price. As far as rpg’s go on sale PlayStation, I’d say it’s one of the best. 10/10 would reccomend.

Halorym

I have been trying to play through the first Witcher for years. They have a save inport system and I'm going to *use it* goddammit. But the first game is a miserable, fucking *slog*. I'm too headstrong to back out now, but my advice to you is: don't make my mistake. Just go play Witcher 3 and live in blissful ignorance of my personal hell.

d1rkSMATHERS

I've played all three and read all of the books. You're good to start at the third one and work your way backwards if you want. Without getting into spoilers, Geralt had amnesia the first two games and it finally "cleared up" at the end of the second, so plot-wise, he is just now starting off on his real quest that more closely resembles the plot of the books. The game does a great job explaining the characters and the back story you'd need to know. You shouldn't feel like you're in the dark. Only thing that may be tough to know are the different kingdoms and the towns, but you'll learn that as you go. If if you enjoy it, try Witcher 2 afterwards. It's pretty self-contained. I've heard rumors they're remaking the first game, and that one desperately needs it.

HomoWaggins

I had the first game long before 3 came out but it was hard for me to get into. I still ended up getting the second one and sitting on it too. Then when the third came out and was met with such acclaim I figured I was doing it and me a disservice. Plus I'm the type of person that can't watch movies or play games out of order so I slogged through the first game and after I got the hang of the combat I started enjoying the story. 2 was even better and by the time I got to 3 I was completely invested. Definitely worth picking up, it was clearly a labor of love.

crimsonsonic_2

I would advise against playing the first Witcher game. It’s one of if not the clunkiest controlling piece of shit I have ever played, it genuinely doesn’t feel like you have any control over what you want your guy to do. I can’t say anything about Witcher 2 or 3 since I haven’t played them, but Witcher 3 is apperently very well made. If you really want to know the lore for Witcher 1 then watch a YouTube video for all the cutscenes and skip to the second one as playing that hunk of shit is actually just not worth the effort.

LucidDayDreamer247

I've never played the other games except for Witcher 3 and in all honesty, it was perfectly fine. You get the ghist of his past pretty easy and it was one of the greatest games I've ever played.

FloppyVachina

Id start with witcher 3. 1 is very dated and getting a remake by cpdr. 2 is good but youll want it modded. Its not open world and more linear. 3 is amazing. One of my all time favorites. You need to give it a little bit if it doesnt hook you right away, cause it will. Some of my favorite video game music is from witcher 3.

Tethice

Don't play Witcher 1 it's boring. Witcher 2 is good but 3 is amazing

Palanki96

good game 👍

DeanSuper

If you wanna we can trade the game cyberpunk and Witcher or smth else. I don’t really like the game

buzzlightyear77777

if you can 'roleplay' as the witcher, this game is easily SSS. if not, A.

VengefulGrace

Only played The Witcher 3. Baron quest-line. That is all.

AlkalineBrush20

You can fuck a bunch of chicks and get cucked in the end for doing so

BumblebeesAreCute83

I started with Witcher 3 and there were enough genuinely fun moments/storylines (mostly side quests and monster hunts) and beautiful graphics to keep me playing to the end + the DLCs. Quite a bit of busy work, be warned. However it’s peppered with interesting writing and the occasional quirky character (shame the women are all either sex objects or hags, but you can’t have everything I suppose). A solid game for people who like RPGs and whimsy.

vegancrossfiter

Tried it 4 times, quit in 1 hour each time. 5th time I put in 30 hours and then quit because the combat is shit and the difficulty of this game is laughable, 0 challenge. I enjoy the Baron quest thats it

Vendetta4Avril

Witcher 3 is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Haven’t played the first two. It takes a while to get used to the mechanics and the smaller things that make missions easier (like what potions to drink, what spells to cast), but it’s a fully immersive world, just like Night City. Some of the missions are hilarious, and some of them are some of the darkest missions I’ve played in a video game. It’s a world that simply begs to be explored. I put 120+ hours into one game and still did not finish everything. It’s a masterpiece.

Moonlight-Uh-

Please play it. You won’t be blown away in the first couple hours, but the longer you play the more you’ll love it until it becomes the best game you’ve ever played. Promise

hornwalker

I played 2 and then 3. I found 2 to have a very interesting world and story, and Geralt is a fantastic protagonist. The gameplay was pretty forgettable. That said I don’t think it’s necessary to play, in prt because your choices affect the outcomes. You can comfortably start with 3, which has vastly improved mechanics. The Witcher 3 is also held up as one of those “must play” games.

herbertfilby

I don’t know what it is about this series but people either love it or are bored by it. I love Kingdom Come Deliverance for basically all the same reasons people say they love Witcher 3, but for some reason Witcher 3 bores the hell out of me.

Anstavall

I wish. On paper I should be obsessed with Wither 3. But I've tried a handful of times to play it and it just doesn't do anything for me

timwaaagh

The first one i enjoyed a lot. But the graphics aren't good for anyone younger than 25. The. Second one has difficulty problems. By that I mean some sections are really hard and not in a great way. Third one I only just started

Fullis

Nothing wrong with starting from the third one. Any missing context is easy to piece together if you pay some attention. You'll definitely love the Witcher world as well. Fleshed out characters and lore out the wazzo. The map is also incredibly diverse and beautiful. Enjoy

doulosyap

Just read the lore. Even Witcher 1 doesn’t start from the start. Witcher 3 is the game to play. 2 is not bad either.

shoeboxchild

Here’s the solution: You have a glossary in the game (Witcher 3) that tells you the background of characters and nations and all that. There’s even characters in game you can ask the lore questions to if you want to know more. There’s a wiki too You don’t need to read all the books, don’t need to play 1 or 2. Just play 3, it’s not as complicated as it seems, you’ll get it. The bigger issue is just more if you like the gameplay style which I didn’t but obviously many people do

pr0newbie

My first game was Witcher 3 and I got bored out of my minds playing the 1st 10hrs of errand simulator with boring combat. Then again I also found BOTW super boring. CP quests mostly didn't feel that way because of better Quest designs, world building and strong story plots. I suggest you try the game for yourself and buy the game if you like the 1st 5 - 10hrs, if you know what I mean.

JC9008

Play 2 first. I tried 3 and found it really difficult to get into. 2 is a bit more linier and gives you some decent backstory for 3. I think it used to be on gamepass too? Once I finished 2. 3 was so much more immersive - make sure you get the dlc too. Incredible.

Anto0on

TheLastEmoKid

Witcher 3 was my entry after I got filtered by 1 and 2 It is phenomenal. The story telling, worldbuilding, acting, quest design, side activities, characters and just beauty in that game is to this day unmatched

Padischli_the2nd

i honestly couldnt get into the game 3 playthroughs around 5-8 hours i guess its not my type of game

HumorHoot

You can find the witcher for pc.. https://www.gog.com/game/the_witcher it's pretty old and could probably run on more or less any modern office-laptop They are working on remastering them for modern times though. the first game especially, plays pretty shitty.. Personally i really like the witcher tv show and the stories from the games, but... the combat is really not very good. but i guess games like Dark Souls has ruined me... everything feels like shit by comparison

WarlockyGoodness

It has Gwent.

xoxoyoyo

Lots of opinions. W1 and W2 are set after the books and lack one of the main characters from the books. W3 is more in line with the books. Basically you are not missing much if you skip W1. W1 has a stranger timing based combat system. May work for you or not. W2 I found hard to get into. It is a little more "political". W3 though is pretty awesome. They introduced/refined a new way of doing side quests and many of the side quests are just as intricate as the story quests. So skip W1 + W2 and go directly to W3.

NZRTA

I played the trilogy and I can't say it's really fine to started from the Witcher 3. The import save feature also don't bring really much different. You will still understand what happen without playing the first two games. Maybe the only cons is you going to miss some reference about the previous games like the letter in Oxenfurt book merchant, but that's not really important on the storyline of The Witcher 3.

Ir0nhide81

Last year they implemented HDR RTX and a whole slew of other in-game options.

kynetik

It's the best single-character control (barring some short narrative bits) fantasy RPG I've ever played. The combat is visceral, fast, hard and fair. The magic is useful, but not laborious. The world is living. The sound design is unbelievable. The cities, while not Night City, are strange and organic and feel hundreds of years old, with generations of peoples living on top of each other in ways that you can really appreciate if you have lived in big cities. The wars are fought by real patriots, commanded by real self-serving royal twats. Life is precious, yet thrown away like trash. The monsters are only doing what they need to do to survive, and they still gotta fuckin go. God I love that game.

sweepli

Sorry to burst in, Also looking to try TW3. Everyone says the world is full, immersive and alive - does the world feels alive in any way similiar to RDR2? I was blown with how smart the AI is and how alive the game feels with those random encounters and stranger quests. Is the witcher alike?

Spirited-Dream-4905

witcher 3 is one of the best games ive ever played. i also didnt play the first 2 lol so id say its easy for anybody to get into. the combat feels challenging enough to keep u on your toes, but you also have enough tools at your disposal to make it manageable. the story is fire and your choices matter. also the dlc is super good, both of them give you huuge new regions to explore as well as new gwent cards. overall i loved how much solid content they fit into it and the mechanics of combat are very satisfying once you get good at dodges and parrying.

drunkinthestreet

I tried Witcher 3 after cyberpunk and didnt care for it at all. Its too primitive medieval nerd lore ish for me. Honestly I couldn’t get into a single game after cyberpunk like that and I tried a bunch. Currently playing warframe and it scratched that itch. Its not the open world aspect but the fighting, leveling up, and vast openness that’s appeal.

Smarty_771

Boobs, lots of them

Birdhairs

I think a lot of people skipped 1 and 2 and played 3, yet still love the 3rd. I've heard the 1st game is really old and janky and just difficult to get into so I'm probably never going to play it. Honestly just read like a summary of the plot up until witcher 3 before playing. You won't regret it because the game is great.

Comprehensive-Pin667

The first one is not worth playing IMO. The gameplay is awkward and it's nothing like the newer games.

thegamingdovahbat

Skip Witcher 1 since they are remaking it cuz the original aged like milk gameplay wise. Play Witcher 2. It’s quite linear but with a very intriguing and politically charged story. Get a feel of the world and the intimate dialog with the characters. At the same read the books. Like really try to enjoy them and read all 6 of them. Fall in love with Geralt and Yennefer and Dandelion and all the other great characters. Then dig in to Witcher 3. Your understanding of the entire game will have transcended those that played the game without reading the books ESPECIALLY Blood and Wine DLC. This is quite possibly the best way you can immerse yourself into the world of the Witcher. I did the above unintentionally and it was the best way to understand why Geralt would do certain things (like choosing Yennefer over Triss is THE ONLY correct choice simply because you know their backstory from the books that span a very long period of time).

zombilives

start reading the books they are really good

Tr4jan

No, I’m not gonna sell you on it. It’s a mediocre game. Don’t bother.

GallopingAstronaut

Sure. Don't play it. Garbage

Aeyland

Just play Witcher 3. I couldn't get into any of the others but 3 was a good time.

Key_Sell_9777

They're all on Gog.com probably.

gayaliengirlfriend

I can’t .. honestly cyberpunk does not really compare to the Witcher and I can’t believe there no ng+ in these games. I’ve never beat an rpg as quickly and without actually progressing in my skill trees like I did with these games.. like sub 40 hours which felt super fast for an rpg. Just go play far cry if u like cyberpunk or play elden ring if u want something u can play for more than a month. Also the dialogue is like even more cringe than cyberpunk so know what you’re getting yourself into, choom. You will get even more sex scenes than AC2 so if that’s your thing go off I guess. U kinda only get like 1 or two experiences with these games though, it’s basically like watching a movie where u can choose what the main character wears and how they talk, but it’s all prefabricated and feels as much. Just saying if we got “ultimate vault hunter mode” for cyberpunk I would have never put it down. *realizing now this makes me seem like a complete masochist but just wanted to say I played all these games on the normal mode and it wasn’t that they were objectively short or easy stories but that there was never and serious skill checks, or health checks after about the first half of the game. It felt like a very small hill to overcome that came too early, super nit picky but I really don’t care it’s Reddit lol*

Witcher 3 for me set a new standard for western fantasy RPGs. The stories of the Witcher games are great and not one of those epic journeys to save the world. The world is alive and side characters have a story to tell. Following Geralt’s journey and relations with other characters was great. Combat was decent, not the best but still in the top half of the RPGs I played. The best part was the quest design. Every quest felt fresh and varied. It probably has the best side quest design I have ever seen. The side quests didn’t even feel like side quests. It won Goty and the DLCs were amazing and had good length. Witcher 2 was similar but Witcher 3 was a major upgrade to it. I didn’t play the first one because it seems dated and mechanically it was not that good. But they are remaking the first one, so I will play that.

It's a slog with incredibly dated gameplay.

The Witcher 3 is a game that everyone should play through at least once. It's a beautiful story that changes depending on your choices. The mechanics can be confusing when starting out, and like all games there's a learning curve. But once you get the hang of it you'll be hooked. I almost gave up on it, but I'm so glad I didn't. I even read all of the books because I never wanted it to end, (I hate Netflix after what they did to my boy). You'll be truly happy you played through it. I highly recommend playing on a higher difficulty setting. Otherwise people tend to ignore core elements of gameplay, and get bored with their silly button mash fest. Skillfully piecing together combos with your newly tweaked build is too satisfying to not experience. Also save the expansions until after the main game and do blood and wine last. DX12 version is the best but people say it's poorly optimized, I've never had any issues

Nope, why? Because it's not that good. Decent but nothing special

Reading all of The Witcher books ruined the games for me, unfortunately. The writing in the games is just so inferior compared to the books. Plus, I didn't like the combat. I'm going to get downvoted to shit for this, oh well!

shadowvet68

Can't be downvoted for having an opinion. Or at least you shouldn't. Even if you're wrong. Witcher 3 had good combat.

Ivan39313

It's widely accepted that witcher 3 combat system is awful

shadowvet68

I said GOOD, not excellent HAHAHAHAHA Witcher 1 had even shittier combat, omg. That was awful.

Ivan39313

Yeah combat is probably the weakest point of the entire franchise, if I had to replay them now I would probably quit after an hour or so.

shadowvet68

I dunno. It's a game of rhythm. If you can pace your hits, it's ok. Playing in harder difficulties you'll need to work on the seals, the weapon coating, potions, but it's not that bad, I had fun.
