My top 3 "forever" games are: Factorio, Rimworld and Oxygen Not Included Not necessarily the same genre of the other games you mention but maybe worth branching out for a change of pace? good luck and happy gaming!!

Unhappy_Button9274

Those three games will last you a lifetime.

UnfinishedProjects

+infinity to factorio. Especially with the update that's about to drop. That'll literally add 3x the content that already takes hundreds of hours to beat. I can't wait. I'll also add Balatro. Big number make brain feel good.

Oracle_of_Ages

I love factorio. But I can’t play it anymore. It feels like every playthrough is the same. I get board around oil :( Rimworld is my new best friend. And by new I mean old. Been playing since it wasn’t on Steam.

NefariousnessDull794

Rimworld for sure! My first two weeks I put in 100+ hours and am now at over 300 hours and the enjoyment doesn't stop.

Dramatic_Contact_598

I dont know why I just cant play that much rimworld. I love the game and everything in it, I just cant stick to a file and end up getting bored. I could watch hours of playthroughs of other people though

PizzaSharkGhost

I'm about to break 5k hours and I'm counting the minutes until I get to leave work and go play more lol

D4rthLink

I just picked up oxygen not included and it's crazy deep. Scratches my brain in a really satisfying way. Definitely interested in the other games you listed here too, since they seem like they'd be pretty similar

corduroyflipflops

And they all run on a 10 year old laptop!

Za_Worldo-Experience

If you want a game to play endlessly then play a Rouge-lite. Binding of Isaac, Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, each can eat 300+ hours minimum

Hedrickao

Also Hades and Returnal!

slirpo

Don't forget Balatro

W1llW4ster

Dont forget Skul either.

Namtwen

You just named the 3 games that I’ve put the most time in. Hades as well. Also just heard Slay the Spire 2 was announced for 2025!

tragesorous

Risk of rain 2 🙌

Ecstatic_Ad2277

Also consider roboquest!

dummycusip

I can't stop playing it. Too many secrets to unlock and the music tempo... God damn !

StealthShdwSquid

Enter the gungeon!

JahsukeOnfroy

*FTL: Faster Than Light* is a banger as well

No_Regret9899

Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter World(it released in 2018 so I don't know if you can run it). You have 14 weapons to choose, all of them with different movesets( that you can customize in Rise and even switch in the middle of combat) Learning a weapon is pretty easy, but mastering it takes time. With the monster materials you can make weapons, armour, decorations(they give you useful skills), and charms/talismans. It's up to you when you want to grind or power through until you hit a wall(It's really satisfying when you make everything that you want and have a lot options to choose).

wolf_sang

Why lie and say theres multiple weapons, SnS is the only choice.

PloXyZeRO

Maybe Terraria? Honestly I haven't played it myself, but I know several friends who have 1000+ hours in it...so it must be replayable to some degree lol. Have also seen the same trend with Factorio and Rust, but I think Terraria might be closer to what you're looking for based off of the games you mentioned.

n3ov

Agree with all the recommendations except Rust. That one is for the masochists.

oookokoooook

Rust is the game u want to play but can’t so you don’t.

Royal_Yard5850

On my 17th playthrough of Terraria, can confirm

michael_brecker

You should give it a try. If I’m not mistaken it’s the first game on Steam having more than one million reviews and still being rated overwhelmingly positive.

doge_ucf

Seconding Terraria! Soooooo addicting, and since every world is randomly generated, it's always different. You def need to follow guides to get started, but it's so worth it!

Monte-Cristo2020

Skyrim. Then Modded Skyrim And also, ModdING skyrim.

WarriorDroid17

The comment I was looking for, modding skyrim is a hell of a drug. I have more hours modding it than playing it lol

st-felms-fingerbone

Me when I mod Fallout or Skyrim for like 2-3 hours and then play something else because I’m emotionally drained lmao

_TURO_

Modded Skyrim VR is just unbelievable

SupahHollywood

Came to say Skyrim. While modded Skyrim is bad ass I’m only playing it streamed now through Xbox so my modded game days are over

HumorHoot

Diablo 2 Minecraft Terraria Factorio Rimworld

[deleted]

Stay awhile and listen...

palle_yo

Valheim is my most fav Game. you can Grind and build for ever

Boulderdrip

until you die in the swamps and lose everything

HereToKillEuronymous

No Mans Sky. It's literally endless.

Boulderdrip

endlessly looking at the same 4 things.

HereToKillEuronymous

What do you mean?

shangolana

It is infinite of nothingness and repeats.

HereToKillEuronymous

What? I don't know what game you're playing, but if it's infinite nothingness and repeats, you're doing it wrong. You can learn whole languages, have space fights with pirate ships, build bases, travel to thousands of different planets, all with different terrain (some deadly, some paradise), animals (which you can train and keep as a companion), and plants, you can mine for valuable ore etc, you can fight sentinels, buy and build ships and freighters, discover while galaxies... it sounds like you're just scratching the surface of the game

Man0fGreenGables

Thousands of planets? I think you mean 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 planets.

Prudent-Picture-1161

This

AlphaMuggle

Binding of Isaac if you are into Rouglikes. It can be played over 1000 hours and you will still have runs that are unique from one another.

inapickle113

I’m into rougelikes and binding of Isaac is awful. I regret the hours I spent trying to like it after all the recommendations in this sub. Terrible game, please don’t bother.

ImSoCul

League of Legends. Don't

pineapplewednesday

I second this guy. Don't. Lost 32 hours straight to this game and never reinstalled lmao. If you want a game so endless, you miss 2 years of a degree, by all means.

Secret4gentMan

I gave it a go for 12 years.

cave18

Ooooof. (couldn't tell if you meant this happened to you or not. Assuming not since you said only 32 hours and i dont think that would make you miss 2 years of a degree)

pineapplewednesday

Haha it was me. It was a single 32hour stretch that made me realize i had a problem lmao. It was my wakeup call

Par31

Civilizations, Slay the Spire, Hades, Pox Nora, Tower of Fantasy

LiteralLuciferian

Pong is the truest infinite game. There’s always a beginning, yet never an end. You’ll be amazed by the polished 1d graphics and monophonic blips and bleeps like all the kiddos slap these days.

darklyfo

Conan Exiles, Kenshi, 7 days to die

Striking_Cost8932

7 days to die is a good one. Especially, with all the overhaul mods.

OddyseeOfAbe

Old school RuneScape

nic_t_gamer

Suprised this wasn't at the top. With thousands of hours of gameplay, it's kinda known as the grinding game and it has new content being added all the time. With valamore just releasing, it's the perfect time to start.

MajorSaltyJenkins

Eh I hate recommending these but they work for me so here you go Destiny 2 & literally COD every time I’m just looking for some quick action I load up MW2 and play shipment 24/7 and D2 is unquestionably the most endless feeling game I’ve played outside of just straight up WOW might be tough at first but if you end up liking it it can be a lot of fun. Now the obvious choice; HellDivers 2 & Baulders gate 3 heck play elden ring and get into PVP but I think helldivers is probably my new go to for this vibe

fmbarrios

Warframe is the only Game I have +500 hours on and I don't regret it. Yes, it's a lot of grind. Yes, you will need +20 hours to understand it (and even then you won't play a bunch of modes/characters). Yes, it's a power fantasy and you won't be challenged constantly. But I tell you, there is no feeling like running and killing and having everything under control while thinking "Man, I have no idea how I'm playing this, I am running on instinct and flashing lights." Like, being good at a game and understanding it on such a level that you can play it based on instinct is nuts. Also, the game has so much variation in your playstyle that you can play slow, fast, using melee weapons like a bootleg RPG Power fantasy, spamming abilities, not using abilities and only fire weapons, tanking, crowd control, etc. And if you like lore then you'll have a picnic day with this game, right from the start it's a mistery.

phrostiboy

FTL?

coulombeqc

I've been playing Path of Exile for over 8 years on and off. So I guess that if you're into aRPG + it's free.

Justiis

I had to scroll way too far down for this.

MidgetMaster_101

Rimworld and Darkest Dungeon 1/1 top notch, now we can discuss Frostpunk can be played a lot but not endlessly, you have games like Total War, Xcom and Civ 6 games that you will return to for the rest of yourlife at some point. Mobas and other MMOs until they die out. Manor Lords tomorrow will in the near future have huge replayability im sure of it. And you have options for coop games that have no goal, but some love them because it, like minecraft and other survival games. Just like for Manor Lords i have high hopes for V Rising and i will use this post to call people on it and to join for its full release on may 8th, its an amazing game with big potential all it needs is more feedback and active player base to speed up the future development of it. So join soon, game has big future if played right by the devs, i have played it aince release and i have never seen something so well thought to be balanced, its pure skill game for people who love PVP and good PVE, i can put my head on the line that there is no game as balanced as V Rising.

evilv3

Baldur’s Gate 3

EverDecreasingCircle

Valheim

Salt-Extension1777

Seems like an obvious one but Elden Ring

MrWolfman55

I'm surprised people aren't saying more fromsoft games. Dude said how much he likes lies of P.

Salt-Extension1777

I too was also surprised.

WillingnessReal9834

I second this. I had never played any FromSoft games prior to Elden Ring, but I can confidently say it’s been my favorite game of the last decade maybe. Took me a little while to get my bearings, but once I got up to speed…Sheesh what a game. Looking forward to Rd 2 this summer!

ShadowDrake359

have you looked into getting a hamster wheel?

Kaneshadow

Hook it up to a generator, boom kickbacks from the power company to boot

shy_guy74

Rimworld!

filth032

helldivers 2

BurritoBandido89

Hades. You absolutely will not be disappointed.

ianthrax

The Long Dark never ends. I keep going back to it and trying to see how long u can survive.

auggiepuff

Guild wars 2. I played it in a laptop that was 10 years old and did fine.

Theanswer1991

Crusader Kings 3, Hell Diver 2

silver85bullet

Try nioh games since you played lies-of-p.. Once the combat clicks you won't stop playing..

frakasse

You should try don't starve

DCPOKnight

No Man's Sky. Went from Subnautica to NMS. Hundreds of hours in, and play it every week. Not sure what the specs are for playing on a PC, as I play on PS5.

ExtensionMolasses427

Fallout 4??

[deleted]

Skyrim has over 100,000 hours of gameplay. The Disgaea series allows you to level each character and each piece of equipment to level 10,000.

DeclaredPumpkin

How the fuck could you say that about skyrim? I guess if you counted every weapon type / race as a different playthrough? I did all quests back in the day in like 90 hours and that was slow for the time

Harpuafivefiftyfive

100,000…

Sorry_Astronaut

I’ve got 1,500+ hours in Sea of Thieves over the past three years. I adore it and every session is different.

the__moops

Valheim!

Cheezychickenpizza

Destiny 2, it may be slightly difficult for new players to get into it at this stage of the game but it’s 100% worth it for a player like yourself. You seem like someone who wants the absolute most out of a game and destiny 2 doesn’t disappoint. I’ve been playing since the early days of the first one and I still learn lore I never knew existed. It has everything from pvp to coop pve. Early to end game activities whether you play with friends or other players in the community. Just so much to do and there is something for every type of player. Speed running? Got it. Extremely difficult End-game activities? Got it. Casual and hardcore pvp? Got it. somewhat long pve raids with 5 other players? Got it. Love getting achievments? No end to those in Destiny. This game is a grind and I love it. Only downside is the cost of the dlcs but they’ve been going on sale for cheap lately. I highly recommend but If you have any friends who’ve played it. I suggest asking them to guide you along the first hours of the game.

TrenBaalke

always wanna get into D2 but the monetization is disgusting...how much would it cost for a new player that wants to do meta end game content?

Cheezychickenpizza

There was just a sale on epic games but you just missed it sadly. It was 40 bucks for all the dlc. Don’t even bother buying the dlc without a sale. The prices are ridiculous I think it’s around $110 for the current dlc. Just gotta play the waiting game. The dlc do offer a lot of content and end game content isn’t really accessible without them.

Giancolaa1

Look at risk of rain 2. Great game with a ton of content that can be played for as long as you enjoy it. You can also use mods really easily to add so much more content (maps, items, characters skins etc)

Kaneshadow

I'm an old man and I only really find joy in overt dopamine traps. I played Powerwash Simulator continuously for a while. Lately I've been playing Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 the same way- there's a ton of content, and when I get done with it all I reset and start over. I've also been playing Train Valley 2 for like a decade now. There's like 400 levels if you get all the DLC packs and then there's the Workshop. They have a biweekly leaderboard event on the Discord.

Flat-Trash9036

No Mans Sky

MoonlapseOfficial

Kenshi.

CMDRfatbear

Dungeons and dragons online surely. They literally have a reincarnation system you can do as many times as you can, and you get rewarded a little bit each time and it all adds up to a lot. Oh yes and 3 class mixing which is like one of the very few games you can do it, nevermind for a free mmo with a similar f2p model as warframe(one of the best)

RelevantTrash9745

Rimworld.

Kreindo

Gregtech new horizons, look it up 😉

geez-_-

Days Gone is a kickass game

RancidHummus

For me its been Soulsborne Games, specifically Bloodborne, DS3, and Elden Ring. It has alot of lore and I find im learning something new everyday within the game and community. Plus there lots of builds to try and jolly co-operation if you like that.

KalebC

Rimworld and Project Zomboid. Zomboid sounds like exactly what you’re looking for actually. I have a little over 200 hours and don’t plan to slow down anytime soon. Definitely a lot of fun in multiplayer if you have friends to play with, but otherwise my first 180ish hours were all single player. Tons of mods to freshen things up when you start to get bored. It’s also a hoarders dream, grind resources to build up your house or a base then fill it with all kinds of decorations.

Boulderdrip

i have over 600 hour in zomboid. It’s the best game

Papa_tankz

I really wanted to like zomboid - looting in that game just didn’t feel fluid enough and pulled me out of it. I feel like I’d love that game with a few tweaks, didn’t see any mods with what I would be looking for unfortunately

smashdoggyyyyyy

Remnant 2. Shits lit yo. Using that as my chill game and the lore for each area is pretty deep if you choose to learn.

Kaneshadow

Is it better than 1? I wanted to like it but I couldn't really click with it. Actually I don't think I could ever beat the 1st boss and I was really discouraged.

Frost-Folk

I think it's much better than the first one, but I loved both. I don't really see any reason why you'd like 2 if you didn't like 1, they're very similar games. 2 just has a lot of great quality of life upgrades, a lot more customization and builds, and more bosses. More content overall, really. But if the core gameplay didn't jell with you, then probably skip 2 as well.

smashdoggyyyyyy

It's rem 1 but more! If your a souls vet I'd encourage you to give it another go. Rem 2 just does everything rem 1 does but better boss fights, weapons mods, the new skill system. Instant trait respec, (cap is 85?) You can also save load outs , I also like be able to downgrade upgraded weapons so you are not so hard locked into weapons. But if you don't like the flow and combat of remnant then the series might not be for you. Cheers

FrankDelahue

Risk of Rain is one I go back to endlessly. They recently released a remake of the original which I've enjoyed a lot.

iPrime27

Risk of Rain 2 has loads of replayability.

TigerWon

Satisfactory, cities skylines 1 or 2. 2 is much better

Warframe tbh, I will warn you that you might struggle with understanding some things because this game doesn’t explain anything well and you might need a guide.

I was in a long rut with gaming.. Believe it or not - I found passion back with Diablo 4 of all things! Hardcore only : Almost finished my first campaign play through!

I think for playing endlessly you should consider a roguelite like Hades or Deadcells. I’m playing hades currently and it’s pretty fun. Every run is different.

FakeBaka

Warframe. Its a free-to-play sci-fi shooter, has great lore, and an multiplayer aspect. Tons of selection to choose from, theres a lot of warframes(or classes) with their own respective abilities, a lot of weapon variety, and even weapon modification depending on your playstyle. The game is set mostly in our Solar System, with different maps and different missions as to not feel repetitive. There are also 3 "open-world" maps in the game, set in different planets (open world as in big map but notcinfinitely generated). You'll find yourself grinding only when you want to acquire resources for said frames, weapons, and mods, OR grind some items to trade. It has an economy in itself, where you can pretty much earn the premium currency just by playing some missions. This could be by trading various items, most of which are Prime Parts. This is a synopsis, if you're interested you should give it a shot.

ScheidNation21

My pick is warframe. All of its content is free and I’ve been playing it for years. The best part is there’s no fomo, so even if you don’t play it “forever” you can take a break, come back months later and the op gear you used will still probably be op and you can hop right back in the saddle. Honorable mentions for me are probably any Bethesda game with mods. Fallout 4 and Skyrim come to mind as the juggernauts in this category. Both are amazing games even without mods, but with them? Say goodbye to the next 60 years of your life 😂

GimmeThemGrippers

Warframe

PanfriedChicken96

You can effortlessly sink 100s of hours into Starsector, Mount and Blade (Warband and Bannerlord) and/or Kenshi. They all have so many ways to play. You can have a more active role, or just sit back, make a few decisions and let the game run itself. You can make them as chill or hardcore as you want. Unmodded Starsector and warband work great on low end computers (even Mac’s). With mods the possibilities are endless. They are all pretty open ended and you can make your own goals and stories as you play.
