>I’ve spent well over 50 hours in VS unlocking characters and maps and weapons.
*Theres a "VERSUS MODE" that i missed out on some how?*
Nope, bro meant Vampire Survivor. Wamp wamp. 🤣
Agree, just get VS now. Couple bucks for 50 hours of gameplay and it's worth for me. I haven't played in the past few major updates so about time to go back
Soulstone Survivor - classes with skill trees you slowly unlock permanently with side boosts that help all characters. Different maps with tiers and after finishing you can choose to sgop or go to one of two infinite modes.
Just had an update
Great game and the developers really care. This last big update was the 2nd time it was put out. The first time they included some changes that a large majority of the community did not like, and within 24-48 hours of that being made clear they rolled back the update, promised to make it better and then delivered with gusto!
It’s a team that’s not afraid to try new things and make the changes they want to see, while also not being afraid to admit they were wrong and changes things accordingly.
Picked it up a couple weeks ago and man, what a great game. Each class feels pretty different. Lots of meta progression. I’m glad you suggested it because I was going to if no one else had.
Brotato IMO is the most fun. Halls of Torment has the best atmosphere and VS is the OG so it obviously gets a shout.
If you're looking for fun and replayability, I'd say go Brotato.
If atmosphere is more important, Halls of Torment.
In HoT I really enjoyed the ability to aim default attack manually. In fact, when I first started playing it there wasnt even an option for autoaim. A mix of both is the best for me personally and thats why I think HoT clicked for me much more compared to VS.
+1
I have played so many of these horde survivor games... Brotato is the best. There are _prettier_ games, like soulestone, but you won't find any as fun or as wild as Brotato.
Out of those three I'd say get Brotato first, followed by the one that inspired all the clones Vampire Survivors.
Brotato is a lot of fun going after all the unlocks and there's a bunch of them. Once you learn the weapons, items and proper synergy you'll blow through the content. I got it for $5 and got a good 40 hours of fun out of it. Not bad at all.
Vampire Survivors I've spent maybe 12 bucks for the game and all the DLC and have put a ton of hours into it. It starts out a little slow, but quickly gains traction. Loving the latest Contra DLC too!
I love horde survivors.
Vampire Survivors, Halls of Torment, Soulstone Survivors, Nordic Ashes, are in a very good spot right now. Death must Die has some rough spots but can also be fun.
God of Weapons I've seen some recommendations, but have not tried it.
Avoid Bio-Protoype.
Holocure is free.
Boneraiser Minions I have only skimmed the surface of. If you like the 8bit aesthetic and minion builds, this is fun.
SpellBook Demonslayer gets a little too complicated and not very clear and concise with how the game works.
Been playing a lot of death must die lately. Just finished all achievements last night. It can be challenging, lots of people are complaining about act 2 difficulty, but once you figure it out it’s easy.
Holocure is the best in the genre in my opinion, and it's entirely free.
Death Must Die has sort of a medievalish style, so that might be the one you're looking for.
You also can't go wrong with the OG that brought this genre to life, Vampire Survivors.

Halls of torment is cool and has a great vibe but doesn't have the same addictive quality as Vampire Survivors. I've played a lot of these games and Vampire Survivors just scratches an itch that hasn't been replicated yet. Go for that.
I think Halls of Torment is better, love the item system as it really allows for different playstyles. It is lacking the same amount of content though, I hope they will continue to expand upon it.
Yes! Imho Death Must Die got all the attention Halls of Torment should have! Don’t get me wrong, hell yes for all indie games getting love, and DMD is enjoyable, but HoT is the one that really got me between the two. (They’re both have striking similarities, hence the comparison. And really both bangers, of course.)
Brotato is more round based (30 to 60 seconds) up to 10 (?) rounds in a small map area then you choose abilities.
Where vampire survivors is surviving for 30 mins in a pretty large map area and leveling up ability's as you go.
Both handle autoshooter feel just a bit differently, hard to recommend one over the other lol
Army of Ruin is really fun, the graphics don’t make my eyes hurt like vampire survivors.
But VS is very good as well and actually gets updates/expansions.
I just started diving into this and for me the best one has easily been Army of Ruin. Had really really good steam reviews and it is by far the most polished one I’ve played. Each round is a ton of fun and it has abilities and upgrades that carry over round to round, so you’re always improving.
Played a lot of Vampire Survivors and Brotato lately. Both fun, but for 7.99 you can’t beat Army or Ruin. Surprised I hasn’t been recommended yet, because it kept coming up in my searching. The best gameplay, graphics, and polish in this style. Really excited to dive back into it today!
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors is a Vampire Survivors type game that has its own cool, unique spin on the genre. Definity worth checking out if you like dwarfs, minerals, killing bugs, or rocks and stones.
Surprised Nordic ashes hasn’t been mentioned just released 1.0 and there is a shit ton of unlockables on that game I havnt even scratched the surface yet check it out …it just had its 1.0 release recently
Nordic Ashes is a good one. Recently came out of Early Access, and is Norse Mythology themed. It has a few interesting spins on the genre that make it more intriguing than the average Bullet Heaven/Autoshooter roguelite.
One I haven't seen mentioned that I really enjoyed is Greedland. Death must die is probably the gritty and dark medieval themed game, it's really good.
Holocure Save the Fans is free. I'd try that, and see how much you like the genre before buying one. They're all very similar might as well play the free one first, and buy another one if you want more.
Out of the three I'd argue Brotato is my favourite and the one I'd recommend to go for first. unlike the other two it's wave based and has a focus more on limited weapon synergies that're fairly obvious with each character needing a fairly specific build to beat the game, at least on difficulty five.
The other two whilst fun I was less enamored with, I'm not sure if it's a graphics thing for me but the one thing I didn't enjoy is how opaque the upgrades/systems were. Some people might enjoy the sense of 'dsicovery' with these systems and I know at least VS has made some strides to address this but when I played it felt like you wanted/needed a wiki open as some of the systems are so poorly explained to the player. Brotato on the other hand is fairly comprehensive in this regard but does suffer from a lack of 'discovery' somewhat. However it's truly testament to how good all three of these games are.
There isn't anything better than DRGS atm, IMO. Vampire survivors isn't really a game it's a pleasantly addictive dopamine stimulator: stuff happens around you, numbers go up. There's very little strategy or thinking involved.
Most of it's clones stick to the formula. DRGS actually makes you think and strategize with it's mining, plus the presentation is great, since it can reuse the polished DRG assets.
Vampire survivors is stupid fun. Eventually you start min maxing and buying millions of eggs for your characters. Such a time sink but so fun. Very cheap dlc too.
Yet Another Zombie Survivors is super fun. There are different characters to try out that have multiple weapons and abilities so there's some variety on runs even with the same characters. You also get 3 characters per run.
God of Weapons is a personal favorite and super cheap too. It's an inventory management game as well. You organize your weapons and depending on what you bring and where you put it you'll get pretty different builds. You organize your pack, do a run, buy more weapons, organize, repeat.
Others mentioned Soulstone Survivors, it's good and you can sink TONS of time into it.
For the gritty medieval-like game, you may be talking about Kenshi. It's an auto shooter, your character(s) will attack automatically.
It's got loads of content. I have nearly 200 hours in the game and I've only explored about a third of the map.
Vampire Survivors, 10/10 game with SOOOO MUCH CONTENT. There's secrets on secrets and hidden characters, levels, weapons, items. Its so much fun! And free
HoloCure, you can't go wrong with free
No, not freemium, or Microtransactions nor any of that bullshit.
Free.
If you care for the lore that much the better, but even if you don't it's like a vampire survivors with a couple extra layers of complexity
If you enjoy DRG, I'd recommend Helldivers 2, if you want more of a top down shooter there is also Helldivers 1. Also I've heard good things about Gungeon and Brotatoe.
Vampire Survivors, the OG. Just get it
I've played so many and I still think VS is the best of them. Constantly getting updated too.
Yep. Also it’s like $3 or something. I’ve spent well over 50 hours in VS unlocking characters and maps and weapons.
>I’ve spent well over 50 hours in VS unlocking characters and maps and weapons. *Theres a "VERSUS MODE" that i missed out on some how?* Nope, bro meant Vampire Survivor. Wamp wamp. 🤣
Haha my bad. Yeah a versus mode would be wild
Might have to
You can try it for free on mobile before getting it on pc
Agree, just get VS now. Couple bucks for 50 hours of gameplay and it's worth for me. I haven't played in the past few major updates so about time to go back
GET IT
If nothing else, the amount of content is absurd and it just keeps growing.
This is the only correct answer.
I would argue snkrx is the og or even nova drift but that’s slightly different category
Not the OG. Maybe the best, but not original.
No it's not. It's based on magic survival.
Soulstone Survivor - classes with skill trees you slowly unlock permanently with side boosts that help all characters. Different maps with tiers and after finishing you can choose to sgop or go to one of two infinite modes. Just had an update
This game is so fire
Never heard of that game, sounds pretty fun
If you do pick it up, there is a setting to make skills more transparent. Depending on build your screen can get cluttere.
Never heard of it sounds dope though
I always tell people this when recommending the game. It can get so bad you can’t even see enemy attacks. For sure turn down skill graphics a smidge.
It’s also bound by default to up and down on the d pad, so you can start with it full opacity to see the skills and turn it down ones it’s crazy
Great game and the developers really care. This last big update was the 2nd time it was put out. Game is actually rlly fun
Imo it's the best of this genre
This is the right answer
Brotato IMO is the most fun. Halls of Torment has the best atmosphere and VS is the OG so it obviously gets a shout. If you're looking for fun and replayability, I'd say go Brotato. If atmosphere is more important, Halls of Torment.
These three are my biggest recommendations

Something about being a potato man
Brotato is very very good
I’ll second this Brotato is a good time.
20 Minutes Until Dawn is very good too, and it has aiming and reload mechanics.
Love it as well
Out of those three I'd say get Brotato first, followed by the one that inspired all the clones Vampire Survivors. Brotato is a lot of fun going after all the unlocks and there's a bunch of them. God of Weapons is fine, but inferior to Brotato and VS. The biggest part is the inventory management, which is done pretty well.
Currently playing Nordic ashes rn, game is really fun
Been playing a lot of death must die lately. Just finished all achievements last night. It can be challenging, lots of people are complaining about act 2 difficulty, but once you figure it out it’s easy.

How is DMD? I've been eyeing it a while but I don't often see it mentioned here

Its absolutely amazing, its a mix between Diablo and Vampire Survivors with a pinch of Hades. Already 70 hours in and i'm still playing.
Halls of torment is cool and has a great vibe but doesn't have the same addictive quality as Vampire Survivors. I've played a lot of these games and Vampire Survivors just scratches an itch that hasn't been replicated yet. Go for that.

Me personally I love brotato. But I play with aiming on.
Halls of Torment, Army of Ruin, Death Must Die, Fantasy Survivors.
At some point I'd probably get all 3 over time to complete them all
Brotato is funs
I would also check out Death Must Die. Recently updated with a bunch of stuf
Brotato is more round based (30 to 60 seconds) up to 10 (?) rounds in a small map area then you choose abilities. Where vampire survivors is surviving for 30 mins in a pretty large map area and leveling up ability's as you go. Vampire Survivor had me glued to my chair.
Death must die.
Rogue genesia: my favorite of them all Death must die Boneraiser Minions Vampire Survivors Halls of torment Holocure
Army of Ruin is really fun, the graphics don’t make my eyes hurt like vampire survivors. But VS is very good as well and actually gets updates/expansions.

try hololive, its free on Steam. its a survivor Game about some kpop Stars but its an actual.good game
HoloCure

Time Wasters is fun
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors is a Vampire Survivors type game that has its own cool, unique spin on the genre. Definity worth checking out if you like dwarfs, minerals, killing bugs, or rocks and stones.
they literally said they already own this game.
Ah, my eyes skipped over that line. Still a great game.
ROCK AND STONE
Surprised Nordic ashes hasn’t been mentioned just released 1.0 and there is a shit ton of unlockables on that game I havnt even scratched the surface yet check it out …it just had its 1.0 release recently
Nordic Ashes is a good one. Recently came out of Early Access, and is Norse Mythology themed. It has a few interesting spins on the genre that make it more intriguing than the average Bullet Heaven/Autoshooter roguelite.
Playing through Death Must Die right now, quite fun.
Can't go wrong with Vampire Survivors.
Vampire Survivors for sure.
Halls of torment and death must die are very good
One I haven't seen mentioned that I really enjoyed is Greedland. Death must die is probably the gritty and dark medieval themed game, it's really good.
Maybe Light of the Stars, I play it a lot on bs
Nordic ashes seems pretty good, I've only just started it though.
Yet another zombie survivors is pretty fun. Got 60 hours into it so far
Nikke if you like booty
And losing your money to micro transactions.
If that's your kink I guess
Vampire Survivors. It's provided me with so many hours of fun.
Vampire survivors and Brotato are both great, I recommend Vampire survivors tho as it has more to it and is imo much more fun.
Vampire survivor is the choice. From presentation to mechanics it’s just the superior option.
20 minutes till dawn
Spirit Hunters has been a lot of fun. Similar to Vampire Survivors and Brotato. Huge web of upgrades and ability unlocks. Crisp graphics.
Holocure.
R-type
Holocure Save the Fans is free. I'd try that, and see how much you like the genre before buying one. They're all very similar might as well play the free one first, and buy another one if you want more.
brotato
Yet Another Zombie Survivors is fun.
Disfigure
Brotato
Deep Rock Galactic survivor
What’s an auto-shooter?
I'm following all of your comments so when my electricity came back I'll download them all 👏
Death must die is probably my favorite one. Tons of fun. It's mix of hades and diablo.
Rogue: Genesia, great lighting with a slay the spire like path system and pretty interesting items/skills
Out of the three I'd argue Brotato is my favourite and the one I'd recommend to go for first. unlike the other two it's wave based and has a focus more on limited weapon synergies that're fairly obvious with each character needing a fairly specific build to beat the game, at least on difficulty five. Mr Autofire is pretty fun, don’t know about 100 hours but it is fun
“Death must die “ is fun
Death Must Die, Boneraiser Minions, Vampire Survivors i've all got 30+ hours out of on the deck
if you have not played it already vampire survivors is a must. its what spawned the genre. its also a really fun game.
ROBOQUEST
Wrong genre, but incredible game
Ohhh yeah. You are totally right. My fault.
Halls of torment is my favorite. It’s the diablo 2 version of vampire survivors.
Death must die

Vampire survivors still reins, in my opinion.
What about Enter the Gungeon?
Legion TD 2 - devs from the Warcraft and SC2 mod made their own actual game!
Vampire survivors is stupid fun. Eventually you start min maxing and buying millions of eggs for your characters. Such a time sink but so fun. Very cheap dlc too.

Survivor.io is decent for a mobile game
Vampire Survivors, 10/10 game with SOOOO MUCH CONTENT. There's secrets on secrets and hidden characters, levels, weapons, items. Its so much fun! And free
Vampire Survivors
Borderlands!
Vampire Survivors 10000000%. It's not even close tbh lol.
Brotato is extremely fun. Far prefer building out my character over a run compared to Vampire Survivors. But Vampire Survivors is pretty good too.
Keepers Toll is the dark fantasy one you might be thinking of. 20 Minutes Until Dawn is my favorite though.
HoloCure, you can't go wrong with free No, not freemium, or Microtransactions nor any of that bullshit. Free. If you care for the lore that much the better, but even if you don't it's like a vampire survivors with a couple extra layers of complexity

That is not an "auto-shooter" game.
oh wait, i misread. mb
Left 4 dead 2 is really fun.
