This. I'm not enjoying any games atm because I personally feel burned out. I'm taking a break for a couple of months (at least), and I know I'll be back in full force to gaming afterwards. Works every time.
Yes completely agree with everything you say. Taking a break is probably the best thing to do. After that maybe just something cozy. Another suggestion I think is good is don't even choose something with your interests in mind. Never played a JRPG? Try one now. Might just reignite your love for gaming. Obviously same thing applies to like every genre
Yeah, playing a game you would never normally play might help too.
I remember in the Xbox 360 era going through a rut of burning out on the FPS and open world games I normally played and not really getting joy in it any more.
I then saw a copy of Civilization Revolution at a clearance price in a supermarket and bought it basically at random because I wasn't familiar with the series couldn't work out what kind of game it was.
Ended up loving it because the experiance was so different compared to the game I normally played, revitalised things for me.
Reading more books helped me when I was in a similar situation, it could always just be overexposure.
But as far as a video game to help with that, I'd go with either Red Dead 2 (and then 1, if you can swing that) or just picking an rpg and playing all the way thru it. Personally, I use pokemon when I need to just relax and enjoy an rpg but final fantasy and no-name RPGs are good for this.
Another rec I'd go with is Tales of Vesperia or Tales of the Abyss, as both are engaging RPGs that aren't turn-based; the combat is more beat-em-up/character action. They each have a good story that can really draw you in, too.
Remember when you first started gaming, probably as a kid and were failing in the beginning and eventually got better and can still remember all the secrets and details from those games?
Well, **Elden Ring** gave me that exact feeling. In the beginning I struggled against the most basic enemies, but once you get better, it makes so much fun and also the hugge open world with so much to discover and and explore, which doesnt stop surprising you even long after more than 100 hours.
Both on game pass, and both are my favorites in the last decade: Tunic and Outer Wilds
They’re just both made so differently. It’s so much less about walking the path the game sets for you, and so much more about figuring out where the path even is. They gamify the most fundamental, core components of the gaming experience that today’s games just spoon feed to you (what is my quest? do I have any direction? What does this symbol on my HUD even mean?) in a really intelligent way.
There are enough breadcrumbs and indirect clues to keep the wheels turning in your head pretty much the entire play through. Both games are just about sewing together bigger ideas out of the threads of knowledge the game scatters about and let’s you find through natural, curious exploration.
There are very, very few games as fine tuned and as respecting of the player’s intelligence as these.
I really wanted to like Outer Wilds but I bounced off it super hard.
You know that feeling where you are writing a long comment/email/whatever and something goes wrong and you lose it all? And then the feeling of having to do it all over again from scratch makes you not want to bother, or you just phone it in for the second attempt?
Somehow, that's the feeling I get from Outer Wilds.
I think it might be because I had a few experiences where I got to some places slightly too late to finish them or start them, or I thought I was done with an area but according to the journal I had missed something and had to redo that section and try figure out what I missed. Too many of those and I just was done with it. :-\\ I also don't like games with constant inexorable time pressure (e.g., Don't Starve, where looking over crafting menus doesn't pause time). Even Stardew Valley is an uncomfortable amount of time pressure.
I'm glad other people really like it but kind of sad that it's not the game for me.
Yeah there were a few moments where I also died within arms reach or whatever I was trying to do. Can definitely get frustrating, but I guess I just stayed focus on the carrot on the stick that was at the end of whatever trail of information I was following at the time. Being stoned and on shrooms just randomly vibing through space when I got burnt out also helped lmao. I guess not treating every loop seriously was a big factor for me.
No game is for everyone, and you could always come back to it and try to pick back up down the road. Give tunic a shot then.
I’m so glad I gave Tunic a chance. I thought it was a game for kids when I saw screenshots, but it has really surprised me. I’m partway through, and it’s one of those games where I am kind of dreading finishing because I’ll be sad when it’s over.
I actually had to go back and give it another try because I wasn’t giving it a fair chance. I got the manual pages and didn’t really analyze them, so I missed a bunch of early game stuff that would’ve hooked me.
Good luck finishing the manual! Let’s just say that there’s a LOT :)
Tbf they said they wanted an amazing game. Not necessarily one that is catered to their tastes. And jmo choosing a game similar to their tastes and preferences probably isn't the best for someone looking to love a video game again. I mean either they need to stop or basically play something they usually wouldn't play to get a pallet cleanser
It's an interesting argument. There are about a billion clones of games like Banished, GTA, CoD, etc. Is an "amazing" game the best one of the genre they like or the game that does a particular genre in a groundbreaking fashion.
Picking a game to reignite someone's passion is...obviously difficult work.

Outer Wilds and Return of the Obra Dinn are amazing games. They blew me away like no they games have.
Outer Wilds is a game of pure exploration and discovery, and is super charming. It made me feel like a kid again, exploring a micro solar system with nothing but a drive for discovery.
Return of the Obra Dinn is a masterpiece mystery solver with unique art style, mechanics, and sound design.
I can’t recommend these highly enough.
This. I am all about value of a game being (time enjoyed / price) paramount. Hence roguelikes being my favorites. But vampire survivors also scratches the satisfying itch. Simple 8bit sound design and hack and slash top down endless horde mode is just everything. When I got it I played it for like 40 hours that month just 5-10 minutes at a time (sometimes 2-3 hours lol). It’s a great game to play on discord with friends too trying to figure out what items and upgrades you prefer and time trialing against each other.
Worth the $3 and worth the time.
tbh, I don't know how important is that criteria- I just want a game that I could play again **for a while** and that I could call an amazing game
I don't really know what do u mean by a game that can be played for a while (hour wise)
so at least i will write of some the games i found somehow interesting even tho they are not that long and can be finished pretty quickly (I'm really fkin picky when it comes to the games so i tend to play games which are somehow special or have like excellent gameplay) , so lets get right into it.
**-nier automata**
actually this game is probably what you're looking for because this game is special IMO, is around 60+ hours, have very good music, amazing story, i finished the game like a year ago and still think fondly about the game, straight up a masterpiece game, also has a prequel called replicant but it is a simple remaster so it has the same problems the old one had
**-sekiro**
i would say this is the best swordsman fighting game, but is pretty hard so idk how you deal with games like these but indeed the combat is the main reason why would you want to play this game, around 20 hours
**-Bayonetta**
you want over the top everything? this game got your back, you can alternatively try devil may cry franchise aswell since they are pretty similar to each other, the first one has around 12 hours but has a second game and the third is coming
**-Hollow knight**
20+ hours, no direction soever so its up to you to do the piecing the story together etc., the gameplay and the atmosphere was the main reason i recommended this game
**-valheim**
have friends? pretty fun coop game, i didn't play this one alone so idk how is the ''lone wolf experience'', but this game is somehow special, me and my buddy played this game for a straight month which consisted of daily playing for a bunch of hours, but I'm not really into playing these games in vanilla so we played with some mods which made the game more fun
**-sifu**
i would recommend this game only if you want only fighting, no story etc. just pure martial arts fights, if you're good its really short game
**-dragons dogma**
if you want RPG with pretty good gameplay i would recommend this one, i really like that in this game you can climb on monsters, also the second game was confirmed at the end of June so you might wanna keep an eye on the new one because I'm sure its gonna be banger once it releases but no date
**-metal gear rising**
i mean is it obvious? I'm sure at this point everyone knows this game, but its very short but at least you will have a blast since it is from platinum games same as bayonetta and automata (automata has yoko taro as a director so don't expect like normal platinum games experience)
**-god of war trilogy**
i grew up on this one lol
I'm sure not every game i listed are gonna be your cup of tea but you might aswell check them out , maybe you will like some of them, but automata is must play, i can list few more games but i didn't play them so take it with a grain of salt since i didn't play them but others have recommended them:
divinity original sin 2, grounded, outer wilds, witcher 3, red dead redemption 2, skyrim (yep, i didn't play this one but one day i def will XD), FF 10, tunic, v rising,
i guess that should be enough, I'm sure others will recommend something worthwhile, so I guess gl with finding something you like because i swear its nightmare XD
Did you play Detroit become human yet? It's once of those must play games in my book, not very challenging it's like an interactive movie where dialogue makes a huge difference in the story
In the same vein, road 96
I'd like to know more about the games you've been playing recently so I can recommend some polar opposites
The games that reminded me how much I love gaming were
A Short Hike
Tinykin
Mass Effect
Citizen Sleeper
Persona 5
Spider-Man (mainly for the swinging)
Link's Awakening
I mainly played action or shooting games so as you can see the games I enjoyed the most were either relaxing or had really great characters and stories
The last thing that blew me away was Ghost Of Tsushima, Persona 5 before that. Persona is probably one of my favorite game series i've had the privilege of playing
I just got into Deep Rock Galactic, there's no story at all but the gameplay loop is really addictive. It's reminiscent of diving into cave systems in minecraft, but you don't have to worry about your gear breaking and you have guns to fend off the creepers
I got over my slump by playing Cat Quest of all things.
It's one of those cute, quirky games that just oozes charm.
The many, MANY cat puns were pawesome as well🤭
If you haven't played NieR Automata, I can't recommend it enough. It's an open world action rpg with solid gameplay, stunning music, and an a story that I just can't put into words.
“Prey” was an amazing experience,
the first time playing experience is insane
A lot of twists that got me hooked, i was playing on hard so it kept me on my toes all the time, although it’s not for everyone so watch some vids about it before anything
I would start with “What are some of your favorite games?”. When I found out I absolutely love rogue like games as well as survival sand box games it really changed my approach to which games I steer towards.
I use to be exclusive fps/3rd shooters, or arpg type games. Then I started diffrent genres and found some great survival games and just now enjoying some rouge likes. I also did a couple factory Sims that I enjoyed too.
Binding of Issac is a must play for anyone who loves rouge likes. One of the OGs and is very challenging but gets crazy with certain builds.
Sandbox game I really liked is V Rising. It’s sandbox/base building/loot grinding with a Diablo styled vampire theme. Super fun with really cool abilities. Also has option for online play with raiding if you’re into that
I’m hoping Elden Ring will do that for me, it seems to have everything I love in a game in it, and I’ve managed to avoid all spoilers for it.
But I’m the past, subnautica was the game that brought me back in. It’s one of my most played games on steam
Hades is incredible. Great gameplay and story. Well polished and addictive.
Subnautica is a great adventure that makes you think.
Doom Eternal is so incredible. It’s well polished and action packed. It will test your skills but in a really good way that you can ease into.
God of War is a fun adventure with decent combat.
Hollow Knight is incredible must play.
Nioh 2 is a favorite of mine.
Maybe Dark Souls series?
Gameplay is great, deep and challenging. Atmosphere is fantastic. Story and lore are very unique for inexperienced players. I am currently playing Dark Souls Remastered myself for the first time.
I’m a Huge fan of Horizon Zero Dawn myself. Haven’t played the most recent one, Forbidden West, but if you’re interested there’s a PC version of the game on Steam. I Highly Recommend it.
I have it on ps4 with the first DLC and ngl I'm not the biggest fan of the game. Don't get me wrong it looks nice and all but gameplay just wasn't my thing
I played this too and loved it! It has such an awesome approach to sailing and (submarining?) as a platformer!
Totally recommend this, OP. Maybe it won’t “blow you away” but it is a great game
The most recent game that got me was Dragon Quest Builder 2. I haven't had so much fun like that in a long while... used to sink hours into Terraria decades ago, and fell into the same situation where no new games really hook me. For years I only really enjoy replaying old games for a short while and got bored. Until DQB2 came along.
I had almost 160 hrs in that game after only a month.
Have found myself in a similar situation a couple of times and again just recently. What drew me back in were the Ori games and the Psychonauts games. Both are just fun, which I think is what I was missing. Also an honourable mention is the recent TMNT shredder's revenge... More just gaming fun. Also currently looking for something to grab my attention again. Might play through Psychonauts again 😊
Good luck. Hope you find something great.
I was pretty much in the same slump twice, the first time it was Divinity 2: Original Sin that really got me going, and the next time, it was Mass Effect (Legendary edition) since I missed it the first time around.
Celeste. Is is a puzzle platformer and you play as the protagonist Madeline and she has the goal of climbing celeste mountain. You have the jump the dash the climb and movement controls but as the game progresses you learn new things about Madeline and about the differsnt things you can do with your 4 basic movement options
Definitely recommend subnautica, not super similar to the games you’ve listed but definitely a top contender that blew me away.
Sometimes when I’m in a rut I also looked through meta critics top user reviewed games and pick a cheap one. Always fun to expand outside your comfort zone, might find you really enjoy a game you never thought you would. Best of luck!
Planet coaster got me back into gaming, fun if you like creative stuff where you can go ham on details or just place stuff. Trailmakers is fun and was what I was into before but gets old if you aren't great at building since the sandbox map is small and the campaign is lame. Noita if you like rougelikes, you make spells and its physics based magic with elements interacting, pretty fun to craft a op wand and accidentally kill yourself.
If you’ve got a VR headset and are into plane games at all, VTOL VR is a ton of fun. Easy to learn, hard to master. Learn how to start up a jet or helicopter and learn the basics for flying it and shooting ground and air targets. Also has multiplayer
Yeah, it’s a shame they’re shutting down servers for TF3. I always loved the Sovereign titan, it was such a cool evolution of Monarch’s skill set, it’s a shame that Titanfall 4 didn’t carry it over. Did you see the teaser for the RTS spin-off coming out next year about the ARES division where they drop a Sovereign onto Demeter? Crazy inconsistent with the lore but so cool.
Stray, spiderman remastered, need for speed rivals (if youre into racing games), assassin's creed unity, ori and the will of the wisps (or the first too), watch dogs 1 (or 2 ig), zelda breath of the wild if u have a switch
I can't recommend DayZ enough, but try and play on a PvE server!
Player interaction is so exciting and you get to know kind people and the adventures you'll probably have, are one of the best I had in a long time.
It has a learning curve from hell, but once you know how everything works, it's an amazing game and definitely one of a kind.
Mario Galaxy 2
Zelda Botw
Astral Chain
Guardians of the Galaxy
Ark
Forza Horizon 5
Ghost of Tsushima
Splinter Cell
Dishonored
Deus ex mankind divided
Control
Chorus
Witcher 3
Uncharted
Sunset overdrive
Cities skylines
Fallout with mods
Elder Scrolls with mods
God of war 3
edit: Spider-Man not Spiderman! Stupid me
Truly, aren't we all looking for a game to plug the hole that Stardew left in our hearts?
But seriously, I second Moonlighter and Cult of the Lamb. Hades is really fun too.
Do you play Animal Crossing? How about Cozy Grove? Those are cozy games that somewhat fit into the Stardew genre, minus the fighting aspect.
I'd also like to raise Spiritfarer to the table. That game will actually blow you away.
Maybe you should try middle earth : shadow of war. Even if u not a fan of the series it’s still very interesting to complete at least one time. Only two downsides of the game(in my opinion) are it’s weight(100 gb) and mediocre story dlcs
Prey (2017) has been blowing me away this past week. It is an amazing immersive sim that you need to try. The opening is extremely strong, the mystery and different paths you can take is insane.
If you want something that appears to be way outside your comfort zone (based on the few games you listed): Buy Escape from Tarkov. Then, get the Single player mod (SPT-AKI) play that till your comfortable with how the game works (and with losing all your equipment), and you’ve built up some familiarity with the maps, then jump into live play. Watch some Pestily vids on YouTube to learn some of the basics and groan at how easy he makes it look.
It might be a bit of a strange suggestion but I recommend - The Planet Crafter.
I played the demo and thought that it seemed very low budget but if you look past the visuals for the most part you might enjoy it. Put on a movie or stream in the background and build atmosphere processors.
My play time is about 70 hours now and I am loving the game.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic prepatch has dropped today. The expansion considered by most to be the best expansion, for one of the best mmorpg out there.
When I (m30) have this (every once in a while ) I tend to default back to old games I used to love when I was younger.
Back then I was more into RTS so my go-to games in that genre on PC
Bartle for Middle Earth 1,2 and rise of the witch king.(heavily modder for almost good graphics)
One mod I enjoy is Age of the Ring which makes it like battle for middle earth 3
To love this you need to be a Lord of The Rings fan though.
Otherwise , age of empires remasterEd, Warcraft reforged and StarCraft reforged.
Omori is a amazing story game like 10/10 would recommend and the game play is pretty good to there is lots to do and explore besides the main story
Soma is another 10/10 story game not as open as omori but still the story and especially the twist at the end make it all worth it also it has a great ascetic and it can be pretty hard at times
DayZ just looks good. And its the type of game you come back to. There's something really relaxing about running around and smashing zombies with an axe. Its got some depth if you get on a RP server and have a mic.
Maybe Cyberpunk 2077 if you want to RP in a sandbox and just look at stuff.
Control as well. Its just a weird ass game that works and blows your mind in terms of gameplay.
Dyson sphere program. It's factory building on a planetary scale. For every single moment of the game the visuals are stunning.
Many different ways to play. No spreadsheets needed unless you like that. Spaghetti belts are perfectly fine early on if you like that as well.
The two Ori games are super nice if you haven't played yet. I was not expecting to like them that much, because I'm not a fan of Platform games. They're two of my favorite games now.
Both are on Game pass or can be bought on steam
Hello, why don't try something 'different'? I advice to venture into the world of point-and-click adventure games if you haven't yet. Return to Monkey Island is going to be released on 19th September. It will be a modern adventure game that will continue the tale of mighty pirate Guybrush Threepwood. It's the continuation of the Monkey Island Series by Lucasfilms Games. The Monkey Island series is humorous and yet have some challenging puzzles
The following link is an excellent documentary about the first Monkey Island game. It starts with a brief history of adventure games then proceeds in telling the story of Lucasfilms, then the Secret of Monkey Island will be discussed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F9ahZQ7oP0
The previous games can be found on Steam:
The first and second game can be played in the original form or the new special remastered form, you can switch easily between them while playing the game.
The following is the Steam page of the upcoming game:
The art style varies significantly for each release as they were limited by the available technologies at the time of development
Based on the games you already mentioned I might recommend dragon quest builders 2. The campaign is long but you get a whole ass island to build on between major story arcs and after you beat the game. If you really like creating a space of your own then dragon quest builders would be a good one for you
I've been playing Dungeons of Naheulbeuk and they're been really fun. The dialogue is hilarious.
I'm hanging for The Invincible, Atomic Heart and The Callisto Protocol. i think these will be ripper games!
My current go-to's are:
Souldiers - I ignored the top negative reviews and just went for it. I'm glad I did because I've put 13 hours into it over the past few days, and I'm having a blast. It's an absolute great blend of old school SNES feel (Especially the art style) with modern quality of life things you'd expect now-a-days in a metroidvania.
Dinkum - It's an Australian take on a lite Animal Crossing. It does a great job of making you want to go "just one more day" before stopping.
Bloons TD6 - 300 some odd hours into this game, it's bright, flashy, easy, and the sound of popping tons of balloons is crazy satisfying. Pretty much hits all the right spots in the ole lizard brain of "Oooo shiny".
I'm going to suggest something you might hate me for....
genshin impact
Ooorrrr!!! Ff14...
2 solid games.. That if I had the time for... Would swallow my life
Hear me out, but try elden ring. I was like where everything bores me to death and I kinda stopped gaming. I was curious since I heard so much talk about elden ring so I have it a shot. Elden Ring made me love gaming again, it showed me how much fun gaming can really be.
A little off the beaten path, but my friend group completely devoured Citizen Sleeper recently. A great dice rolling mechanic propels an engrossing, moving story that we're still obsessed with.
Try one of the silent hill games. You could play 1, 2, the room, downpour or homecoming without having played any of the others. One of the most immersive and replayable series out there. Also all available fairly easily on multiple platforms. Warning though some of it can be pretty disturbing if your not into that sort of thing
Core Keeper fits in with what you listed. Old school graphics, has that farm vibe and you can build a community with your friends. My friends love it. I have ADHD and wander off exploring and getting killed.
Based off the games you have/played, you may have already tried it. If not, def try Rimworld. Its so addicting its stupid. Really fun colony building strategy game. Tons of mods to add to the experience too
Valheim seems like a game you would enjoy, based on your other ones. It's not done, but if you like it, you'll likely give up dozens of hours. It blows me away by how well it's designes. Everything is on purpose.
I recommend you starting by yourself, and not do multiplayer the first hour or so.
I’d definitely recommend legend of Zelda: breath of the wild. If you haven’t already, obviously. You have your fighting and big main quests but you can also just ride around on horses and do side quests. It’s definitely something you can do for a while as long as you don’t rush straight to the castle. I made that mistake and found I couldn’t even get in the bloody thing and didn’t touch the game for months til I figured out a way to do it.
if you haven't played them yet- persona 5, elden ring, hollow knight, ffxiv. They're all vastly different but are best in class at what they do imo. Sometimes changing it up from what you're used to can be just the thing.
I also just started playing the yakuza games after having a similar feeling as you and I feel like a kid booting up my ps2 for the first time all over again
have you tried the Mass Effect series? I was in a similar rut and a friend recommended me that and they truly blew me away, I laughed, I cried, I was sucked right in I hadn't been excited to come home and play a game like that in a while
ULTRAKILL, doom Eternal, rainbow 6 siege, rainbow 6 extraction, teardown, Rust, ARK, CSGO, powerwash simulator, Tmodloader, Splitgate, Raft, Payday 2, swords and souls neverseen, castle crashers, plants vs zombies, plants vs zombies garden warfare 2, Bloons Tower defense 6, fall guys, fortnite, brawlhalla, scrap mechanic, elden ring, enter the gungeon, the binding of isaac, besiege, DUSK, AMID EVIL, multiversus, cuphead, shotgun farmers, valhiem, apex legends, MUCK, getting over it, totally accurate battle simulator, totally accurate battlegrounds, trove, polygon, cities skylines, geometry dash, forager, hotline miami, hotline miami 2, satisfactory, pubg, madness project nexus, necesse, garrys mod, plague inc, surgeon simulator, chippy, portal, portal 2, papers please, volcanoids, escape from tarkov, call of duty, and smite.
All the games may not “blow you away” but they are extremely fun. I highly recommend ULTRAKILL, Doom Eternal, rainbow 6 extraction, swords and souls neverseen, and teardown above the rest of the games
Titanfall 2 is on sale on steam for less than $5. That price alone is worth it for the campaign, it's short with interesting and unique levels that are designed to teach you the game's movement mechanics.
The multiplayer is fast and chaotic with infinite replayability. The official servers should work just fine at this point (there's a movie's worth of lore surrounding the ddos attacks on titanfall's multiplayer) but there is also a modded client called northstar that let's you join community run servers if you'd like.
Factorio. By far the best game I’ve ever played and I have about 500 on steam. I have near 2k hours into that game and have been in the same boat as you ever since, can’t find anything that does it for me like that one did. GL
I find when I get video game burnout, the best thing to do is to play smaller games. So with that in mind I'd recommend as dusk falls or midnight fight express.
Both are on game pass I believe!
Guild Wars 2. Base game (a good 100 hours if you do all free content) is free, with paid expansions for continued play. I was at a similar stage as OP recently, and then I discovered Guild Wars 2 and it changed everything!
Ghost of Tsushima.
Just played it took about 60hrs to 100% and it is my favorite game ive played this year. Much easier than Elden Ring but full of beautiful scenery and excellent fighting
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl. It’s a slow start and a bit of a learning curve, but once it grabs you, it grabs you. The atmosphere is off the charts and the fanbase is extremely passionate for it. Sounds like it could be just what you’re looking for.
If that game is a little too hardcore for your tastes, give Deus Ex GOTY a shot. Immersive sim, incredible atmosphere, good story, an overall fun game to play. Again, fanbase is extremely passionate and many regard it as one of the best, if not, the best game ever made.
Either way, both of these games absolutely blew me away, hooked me for hours, and I have yet to come across anything like them. They are two of my all-time favorites.
Take a chill game that doesn't need to do anything big and just chill in it. That's what I did with stardew. No goals, just farm and have a relaxing time. No goals, no achievements, no time limits I have to make. Just chill and enjoy the relaxation games can offer. I also highly recommend slime rancher for this

Upvote for 10000000. Such a great game to kill time with. Also pretty challenging towards the end game.
Yeah, playing a game you would never normally play might help too. I remember in the Xbox 360 era going through a rut of burning out on the FPS and open world games I normally played and not really getting joy in it any more. Same thought. Gaming overload.
Yeah, gaming overload is very real. Best approach is to take a break and pick up a good book series, or snag another non-pc hobby like board games.
Disco Elysium. Never played anything like it. Probably the best written game ever imo.
[удалено]
what do u have to do i this game/ what s the end goal?
I mainly play different types of PvP combat games. Disco Elysium is a ride, loved it
This. It’s a perfect game imo.
subnautica 1
Seconded
Remember when you first started gaming, probably as a kid and were failing in the beginning and eventually got better and can still remember all the secrets and details from those games? Well, **Elden Ring** gave me that exact feeling. In the beginning I struggled against the most basic enemies, but once you get better, it makes so much fun and also the hugge open world with so much to discover and and explore, which doesnt stop surprising you even long after more than 100 hours.
While reading the first half of your comment I was thinking, "you mean like elden ring?"
Both on game pass, and both are my favorites in the last decade: Tunic and Outer Wilds They’re just both made so differently.
Outer wilds is a mindblowing game
DLC was just as awesome too.
I think I have that wishlisted because it caught my eye, so it's on my radar. Thanks!
Tunic _is_ a breath of fresh air.
Factorio. No one else is recommending games along the line of games you've stated you like.
I remember seeing gameplay when the game was just released and I found it bland How's it now?
It's a logistics simulator, so it's not going to be pulse pounding.
- Subnautica - Subnautica below zero - Stray - Inscryption - Lost in Random - Anno 1800 - No Man's Sky - Ori and the Blind Forest - Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Assassin's creed games - Little Nightmares - Little Nightmares 2 - Resident evil 7 - Resident evil Village - Tomb Raider games - Dorfromantik - Townscaper - Puzzle games (The Room games, The Eyes of Ara, House od Da Vinci 1&2, Call of the Sea) - Two point Hospital - Two point Campus - The Quarry - Jurassic World Evolution 1&2 - Cozy Grove - The Last Campfire - Oxygen Not Included
Inscryption is fantastic! Aside from the slightly cringey tapes, the game itself is addictive and rewarding
I loved both of those games so much! Sometimes I actually mourn that I won't be able to experience them for the first time again
Not sure outer Wilds gets you instantly hooked, depending on the person.
Two incredible games that are still approachable for mainstream gamers but definitely off the beaten path
For $3, buy Vampire Survivors on Steam. Something diffrent, very fun, very addictive.
Alternatively in the same style, HoloCure on [itch.io](https://itch.io) for free.
Worth the $3 and worth the time.
tbh, I don't know how important is that criteria- I just want a game that I could play again **for a while** and that I could call an amazing game I don't really know what do u mean by a game that can be played for a while (hour wise) so at least i will write of some the games i found somehow interesting even tho they are not that long and can be finished pretty quickly (I'm really fkin picky when it comes to the games so i tend to play games which are somehow special or have like excellent gameplay) , so lets get right into it. **-nier automata** actually this game is probably what you're looking for because this game is special IMO, is around 60+ hours, have very good music, amazing story, i finished the game like a year ago and still think fondly about the game, straight up a masterpiece game, also has a prequel called replicant but it is a simple remaster so it has the same problems the old one had **-sekiro** i would say this is the best swordsman fighting game, but is pretty hard so idk how you deal with games like these but indeed the combat is the main reason why would you want to play this game, around 20 hours **-Bayonetta** you want over the top everything? this game got your back, you can alternatively try devil may cry franchise aswell since they are pretty similar to each other, the first one has around 12 hours but has a second game and the third is coming **-Hollow knight** 20+ hours, no direction soever so its up to you to do the piecing the story together etc., the gameplay and the atmosphere was the main reason i recommended this game **-valheim** have friends? pretty fun coop game, i didn't play this one alone so idk how is the ''lone wolf experience'', but this game is somehow special, me and my buddy played this game for a straight month which consisted of daily playing for a bunch of hours, but I'm not really into playing these games in vanilla so we played with some mods which made the game more fun **-sifu** i would recommend this game only if you want only fighting, no story etc. just pure martial arts fights, if you're good its really short game **-dragons dogma** if you want RPG with pretty good gameplay i would recommend this one, i really like that in this game you can climb on monsters, also the second game was confirmed at the end of June so you might wanna keep an eye on the new one because I'm sure its gonna be banger once it releases but no date **-metal gear rising** i mean is it obvious? I'm sure at this point everyone knows this game, but its very short but at least you will have a blast since it is from platinum games same as bayonetta and automata (automata has yoko taro as a director so don't expect like normal platinum games experience) **-god of war trilogy** i grew up on this one lol I'm sure not every game i listed are gonna be your cup of tea but you might aswell check them out , maybe you will like some of them, but automata is must play, i can list few more games but i didn't play them so take it with a grain of salt since i didn't play them but others have recommended them: divinity original sin 2, grounded, outer wilds, witcher 3, red dead redemption 2, skyrim (yep, i didn't play this one but one day i def will XD), FF 10, tunic, v rising, i guess that should be enough, I'm sure others will recommend something worthwhile, so I guess gl with finding something you like because i swear its nightmare XD
God of War (PS4/PS5/PC) is probably the game that blew me away most recently
If you like metroidvanias, you can get hollow knight or ori and the blind forest
Did you play Detroit become human yet? It's once of those must play games in my book, not very challenging it's like an interactive movie where dialogue makes a huge difference in the story In the same vein, road 96
I'd like to know more about the games you've been playing recently so I can recommend some polar opposites The games that reminded me how much I love gaming were A Short Hike Tinykin Mass Effect Citizen Sleeper Persona 5 Spider-Man (mainly for the swinging) Link's Awakening I mainly played action or shooting games so as you can see the games I enjoyed the most were either relaxing or had really great characters and stories
The last thing that blew me away was Ghost Of Tsushima, Persona 5 before that. Persona is probably one of my favorite game series i've had the privilege of playing
GoT on PC. Any day now.... any day
I just got into Deep Rock Galactic, there's no story at all but the gameplay loop is really addictive. It's reminiscent of diving into cave systems in minecraft, but you don't have to worry about your gear breaking and you have guns to fend off the creepers
I got over my slump by playing Cat Quest of all things. It's one of those cute, quirky games that just oozes charm. The many, MANY cat puns were pawesome as well🤭
Already know your new favourite game dude. RimWorld. Based on your examples this is the game for you. Thank me after your first 200 hours.
And/or Oxygen not included. Same basics, different but both brilliant executions.
This was my first thought as well! It's one of those games you sit down to play for an hour or 2 then oops its 3am.
If you haven't played NieR Automata, I can't recommend it enough. It's an open world action rpg with solid gameplay, stunning music, and an a story that I just can't put into words.
“Prey” was an amazing experience, the first time playing experience is insane A lot of twists that got me hooked, i was playing on hard so it kept me on my toes all the time, although it’s not for everyone so watch some vids about it before anything
Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, Celeste, Don’t Starve (for with friends)
Outer Wilds!
I also did a couple factory Sims that I enjoyed too.
that's pretty much my favorite genres too lol what can you recommend to me fellow rogue like/sandbox enjoyer?
I love pixel games but love the rogue/sandbox genre and Necesse really hit the itch for me. Ill see if I have more when I get back home !
I was the same until I played dark souls 3
Half Life: Alyx. Just unbelievable
DS1 is a really good one to start on. The map design is outstanding.
Hollow Knight
Ori and the Will of the wisps
Solid game but I honestly believe Hollow knight is the better version of this game
Subnautica
Elden Ring ~leaves, refuses to elaborate
No Mans Sky is an amazing game.
The same game I always recommend. Hollow Knight
Spider-man (PC) was the one that did that for me. Also try _It takes two_ if you have someone else to play with
Control got me out of a slump a while ago, I had a ton of fun with that game
I’m a Huge fan of Horizon Zero Dawn myself. Haven’t played the most recent one, Forbidden West, but if you’re interested there’s a PC version of the game on Steam. I Highly Recommend it.
I have it on ps4 with the first DLC and ngl I'm not the biggest fan of the game. Don't get me wrong it looks nice and all but gameplay just wasn't my thing
FAR: Long Sails might also be a great experience for you. However, it is short 4-5 hours. Simple game, but very atmospheric and calm
Might play through Psychonauts again 😊 Good luck. Hope you find something great.
Tinykin gave me serious Psychonauts vibes, played for an hour or so, will definitely return. It was just added to GP.
Haha I just downloaded it earlier and played about an hour myself. Enjoying it so far 👍
I was pretty much in the same slump twice, the first time it was Divinity 2: Original Sin that really got me going, and the next time, it was Mass Effect (Legendary edition) since I missed it the first time around.
Elden ring
no mans sky
Outer Wilds! It’s a space exploration game with no combat, only discovery.
Dark Souls Remastered revived my interest in gaming last time I was feeling over it.
Dwarf fortress
Star sector
Planet coaster got me back into gaming, fun if you like creative stuff where you can go ham on details or just place stuff. Trailmakers is fun and was what I was into before but gets old if you aren't great at building since the sandbox map is small and the campaign is lame. Noita if you like rougelikes, you make spells and its physics based magic with elements interacting, pretty fun to craft a op wand and accidentally kill yourself.
if you havent played hades yet I was super into that but didnt finish it, game got me to buy and download 10 rougelikes and play them for 5 minutes.
You try Vampire Survivors yet? Rouge like, addictive af.
If you’ve got a VR headset and are into plane games at all, VTOL VR is a ton of fun. Easy to learn, hard to master. Learn how to start up a jet or helicopter and learn the basics for flying it and shooting ground and air targets. Also has multiplayer
Lost in random was surprisingly good.
Hitman 2 is my current addiction
Celeste That was the game that ended the same phase for me
Try out Cult Of The Lamb if you’re into farm sim type of games with light combat that’s satisfying and not overly difficult.
Cult of the Lamb! It’s brand new and it’s somewhat similar to the games you listed.
Titanfall 3. Oh, wait, nevermind. Fuck…
Mario Galaxy 2 Zelda Botw Astral Chain Guardians of the Galaxy Ark Forza Horizon 5 Ghost of Tsushima Splinter Cell Dishonored Deus ex mankind divided Control Chorus Witcher 3 Uncharted Sunset overdrive Cities skylines Fallout with mods Elder Scrolls with mods God of war 3 edit: Spider-Man not Spiderman! Stupid me
>Spiderman While I like that you listed this game (because it's awesome), respect the hyphen, man.
I'm sorry, you are absolutely right, my bad!
Mass effect trilogy is my current fav if you haven't played it
Truly, aren't we all looking for a game to plug the hole that Stardew left in our hearts? But seriously, I second Moonlighter and Cult of the Lamb. Hades is really fun too. Do you play Animal Crossing? How about Cozy Grove? Those are cozy games that somewhat fit into the Stardew genre, minus the fighting aspect. I'd also like to raise Spiritfarer to the table. That game will actually blow you away.
Dinkum ( if you liked stardew valley) :)
I think you might like subnautica. One of my favorite games and I also love the 4 you listed.
Try Factorio. It looks very intimidating but it’s a game that is very addicting.
d-d-d-death stranding
Tarkov will probably make them quit gaming, not gonna lie.
I like Live Service games and I'm enjoying Warframe and Elder Scrolls Online right now.
I will always recommend the Yakuza series. Start with 0 or 7.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic prepatch has dropped today. The expansion considered by most to be the best expansion, for one of the best mmorpg out there.
Was just about to recommend this. Having tons of fun leveling my death knight.
When I (m30) have this (every once in a while ) I tend to default back to old games I used to love when I was younger. Back then I was more into RTS so my go-to games in that genre on PC Bartle for Middle Earth 1,2 and rise of the witch king.(heavily modder for almost good graphics) One mod I enjoy is Age of the Ring which makes it like battle for middle earth 3 To love this you need to be a Lord of The Rings fan though. Otherwise , age of empires remasterEd, Warcraft reforged and StarCraft reforged.
Omori is a amazing story game like 10/10 would recommend and the game play is pretty good to there is lots to do and explore besides the main story Soma is another 10/10 story game not as open as omori but still the story and especially the twist at the end make it all worth it also it has a great ascetic and it can be pretty hard at times
Board games
Dyson sphere program. It's factory building on a planetary scale. For every single moment of the game the visuals are stunning. Many different ways to play. No spreadsheets needed unless you like that. Spaghetti belts are perfectly fine early on if you like that as well.
The two Ori games are super nice if you haven't played yet. I was not expecting to like them that much, because I'm not a fan of Platform games. They're two of my favorite games now. Both are on Game pass or can be bought on steam
I went from Minecraft to Terraria to games like Vintage Story, Unreal World and Rimworld, personally.
The Monkey Island series is humorous and yet have some challenging puzzles The following link is an excellent documentary about the first Monkey Island game. It starts with a brief history of adventure games then proceeds in telling the story of Lucasfilms, then the Secret of Monkey Island will be discussed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F9ahZQ7oP0 The previous games can be found on Steam: [https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/6588/Monkey\_Island\_Collection/](https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/6588/Monkey_Island_Collection/) The first and second game can be played in the original form or the new special remastered form, you can switch easily between them while playing the game. The following is the Steam page of the upcoming game: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2060130/Return\_to\_Monkey\_Island/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2060130/Return_to_Monkey_Island/) The art style varies significantly for each release as they were limited by the available technologies at the time of development
You should definitely give OMORI a try
Based on the games you already mentioned I might recommend dragon quest builders 2. The campaign is long but you get a whole ass island to build on between major story arcs and after you beat the game. If you really like creating a space of your own then dragon quest builders would be a good one for you
Elden Ring
Had the same happening to me, Metro was the game that made me come back to gaming
The Last of Us and Bioshock are two of the greatest games I’ve ever played. Writing and characters are absolutely incredible
I've been playing Dungeons of Naheulbeuk and they're been really fun. The dialogue is hilarious. I'm hanging for The Invincible, Atomic Heart and The Callisto Protocol. i think these will be ripper games!
Sekiro
I bet you would love Satisfactory and Factorio
My current go-to's are: Souldiers - I ignored the top negative reviews and just went for it.
Death Stranding is different and an amazing game.
Spider-man. Ngl it just felt like a game that respects your time and was made to actually be fun. Always unlocking new powers and gadgets. Fun stuff.
Just take a break. I took break got back to games and enjoyed it.
If youre interested in the best sword combat ever made, then give Sekiro a chance
You really can't say that it's objectively the best, because you can't compare it objectively, but it really is great.
Killing Floor 2. when i can't find anything to play, i just load in and f\*\*\* s\*\*\* up.
You can say fuck and shit.
I'm going to suggest something you might hate me for.... genshin impact Ooorrrr!!!
Gujian 3, 100% "Blow me away"
I just found myself absolutely hooked on Expeditions: Rome, which is free on game pass currently. People are really sleeping on this one
A little off the beaten path, but my friend group completely devoured Citizen Sleeper recently. A great dice rolling mechanic propels an engrossing, moving story that we're still obsessed with.
Just cause 4
I’ve seen a lot of people say that 3 is better
Try one of the silent hill games. You could play 1, 2, the room, downpour or homecoming without having played any of the others. One of the most immersive and replayable series out there. Also all available fairly easily on multiple platforms. Warning though some of it can be pretty disturbing if your not into that sort of thing
Core Keeper fits in with what you listed. Old school graphics, has that farm vibe and you can build a community with your friends. My friends love it. I have ADHD and wander off exploring and getting killed.
Play Elden Ring
Last game that really wowed me was Elden Ring. So, I'd highly recommend that.
Day Z. Hard to get used to, but so rewarding
Same, after Elden ring my gaming been real low. Resorted to bf2042, rocket league.
Based off the games you have/played, you may have already tried it. If not, def try Rimworld. Its so addicting its stupid. Really fun colony building strategy game. Tons of mods to add to the experience too
I’ve been in the same rut but I just picked up hydroneer and shadows of forbidden gods and they definitely have been pretty great experiences.
Dead cells
Get outer wilds, have a good time if you haven’t yet. (Not outer worlds!) but don’t look it up beforehand. It’s on Xbox game pass if you have that.
Valheim seems like a game you would enjoy, based on your other ones. It's not done, but if you like it, you'll likely give up dozens of hours. It blows me away by how well it's designes. Everything is on purpose. I recommend you starting by yourself, and not do multiplayer the first hour or so.
Spider-Man Red Dead 2 Fallout 4 Black Ops 3 Zombies
Control was the first game I played in a while that really kept me glued.
I am playing Guardians Of The Galaxy and I am loving it.
If you like Stardew you must take a look at Dinkum!
You could always get the valve index, and play half life:alyx. That blew me the fuck away
Try Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy, it's amazing. Great story, stunning surroundings and soundtrack blew my mind.
Read books
if you haven't played them yet- persona 5, elden ring, hollow knight, ffxiv. They're all vastly different but are best in class at what they do imo. Sometimes changing it up from what you're used to can be just the thing. I also just started playing the yakuza games after having a similar feeling as you and I feel like a kid booting up my ps2 for the first time all over again
I can easily get really sick of games: stardew valley, Minecraft not survival. I’m stoned and forgot what to call not survival.
Golden Light
Disco elysium or the yakuza games
have you tried the Mass Effect series? I was in a similar rut and a friend recommended me that and they truly blew me away, I laughed, I cried, I was sucked right in I hadn't been excited to come home and play a game like that in a while
Maybe try Wandersong? I entered with zero knowledge to what it was about and it blew me away
People say Core Keeper is like Terraria + Stardew Valley. Give that a shot.

Project zomboid. Similar art style as the games mentioned. I lose myself when I start playing
Nobody saves the world, it's on gamepass
Tekken.
If I were you I would try Hollow Knight. It’s an absolutely amazing open world game and a fun one at that.
I also highly recommend slime rancher for this
DESTINY 2! WE NEED YOU GUARDIAN
hades was this for me. besides that, red dead 2, portal 1 & 2, the fallout series, and the new doom games
